In a see-saw battle, Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann now leads the race against DFL candidate Jim Graves in the 6th Congressional District by less than a thousand votes, as results from Wright County, one of Bachmann's strongholds, are being reported. In a turn that seemed to surprise even DFL staffers, Graves earlier took a narrow lead over Bachmann. With just over half the precincts reporting, Bachmann had 50.1 percent of the vote to Graves' 49.9 percent.

What an egotistical, short-sighted, lying shit. Come to me in my dreams, and then By day I shall be well again! For so the night will more than pay The hopeless longing of the day.

After Fox News-like everyone else-called Ohio for Obama, Karl Rove challenged the decision on-air, causing what can only be described as a kernel panic. Fox News' decision desk, its institutional center of authority for making sound election calls, had issued its decision. And Fox News, in its capacity as a newsgathering operation, had called the election for Obama. But Karl Rove, Fox News' ideological paymaster, challenged the decision. So Megyn Kelly got out of her anchor chair, walked down the hall, and interrogated her own highly trained election analysts on Rove's behalf. You are actually watching what happens when reality intrudes on a dying fever-dream.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Kaine really did help...or, perhaps, it is more that Allen did NOT help Romney.
I'm thrilled, though...go Virginia!

Though the AP is taking its time calling the Wisconsin Senate race, many other outlets have called the race for Tammy Baldwin. She becomes the first openly gay senator ever.
Yo, Republicans...put that in yer pipes and smoke it.
It is as pinched and twisted with bile and evil as one might deduce from his blatherings.
And now I watch the Mittbot yap his way through a concession speech of stultifying banality.
I GLOAT. If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done subjunctively.
There are still Republicans out there that don't make you and I look like idiots for not despising them. They just need to come out of the closet and be OK with who they are.

I like the way it scans as is. So "fat on bread" should go on the left. But I eat more often with my right. The future is unwritten

BOSTON - President Barack Obama's thrashing of Mitt Romney exposed glaring structural weaknesses in the Republican Party that will shut the GOP out of the White House until they find a way to appeal to a rapidly changing America. Seemed pretty obvious to the rest of us for a while now and would have manifested all the more painlessly without your collective thumbs on the scale for the status quo. A bunch of entitled old fogies, at best.
The long creative project of America has been to engage all its citizens in that work. That is the history that [Obama] wears so well, and that he wields so subtly. That is the truth that he represents. That is the great silent thing that has been there through all the debates, and the ads, and all of that preposterous money. We are working on ourselves. We are incomplete. We are never finished. Elections come and go. The political commonwealth is a work in progress. We work with the tools that time and circumstance provide. As he enters his final term, with the elegiac music playing out there in the distance, Barack Obama will use the history that he has come to embody and, perhaps, even to fulfill, as part of a larger project that never will be completed but only finished, over and over again. One more step forward. This will be an interesting year or two. And just on "projects" I went over to Red State seeking schadenfreude and found a bunch of arguably decent people coming to terms with reality. You can bet they will be reading Nate Silver in future and they said so.
The right wing did exactly that the last four years. They spoke to the populace, and they had too much of the stage to themselves. If the President executes well on taking that stage it could well mitigate the unmitigated Crazy that has been running rampant. 50% to 48% and growing. Likely 51%-47% by the end.
Mandate.
This is the last standing meme, about to be washed away. It was not close, it was not an electoral win and a popular loss. This is a strong win that speaks to a national interest in moving the frak on from the extreme rhetoric. This just in: The pro-choice, pro-women, pro-environment, pro gay-marriage, pro-education, pro-health care-reform black guy who seems to genuinely care about the state of the world and helping as many people as possible even though he's imperfect and can't get it right every time, he beat out the hollow, wildly dishonest, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-environment, anti-everything rich guy no one really liked and everyone knew would slam us back a couple generations and a Mormon half. And lo, it is a good day indeed.
And lo, it is a good day indeed.
And an observation from December 2010, with added resonance now, by Stephen Colbert:

If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are or we've got to acknowledge that he commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition... and then admit that we just don't want to do it.
Between the hurricane and the election, I've barely had time to take a piss.
But I stand by my prediction that Romney will win because liberals and Democratic base groups like blacks, Hispanics and young people won't show up.
Oh they did, you say? Well I didn't see that coming.
Keep feeling like it happened somewhere else but I dreamed it happened here. Whole neighborhoods of Staten Island just laid to waste. The Rockaways, it's hearbreaking. The boardwalk is just gone. I had just walked the whole thing in mid-September. We had this abnormally beautiful late summer day.
This was only a few blocks from where I live and I was down there with these guys at one point (always the journalist). I saw the explosion, it was terrifying.
