I continue to contend that the flying orange fur, Tea Party gnashing and other examples of in-itself unproductive cogitation is in fact productive.

We are wearing smooth the pointy topography of previously uncharted lands. The Brownian decision-making that leads folks to build on That Craggy Overhang Over There may not serve the individual well, but the landslide removed a hazard and made a nice level spot in the valley below.

We're evolving, we'll get there... ;~)

I've thought about you often. Maybe if you're moving to the UK I can meet you face to face (as we promised a couple of years ago).

The way you were treated was appalling, but after you were banned I saw an even more appalling treatment by the admins of someone else, who was trolled beyond belief, and in a fragile mental state. She was a great, wonderful writer, and has been harried into silence.

I'll say it here: Kos makes a lot of money from his site, and I think he failed his duty of care. That's reprehensible in the circumstances.

Here - we make no money, probably lose some. And be assured we'll never let anyone be peremptorily banned or trolled without safeguards

Yes, I'm hoping to move into this new position at the new year. I'll be doing alot of travel to London specifically through the course of the year and by the next year, I will probably relocate there. I'm excited about it as it will give my partner an opportunity to return to the UK after being in the US for more than 12 years.

As you're probably familiar with what happened to me, I made a stupid mistake and was banned for it. In retrospect, the real issue is that I tangled with a group of folks there one time too many rather than avoid them at all cost. I believe you even warned me about it at one point. Nevertheless, I've sent at least 4 requests in for reinstatement and I've heard nothing in return. I was told that Markos will reinstate folks if they request it and show sufficient remorse. I believe I did that, but I'm still banned.

In the end, its his site and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm glad you saw my post here. I always enjoyed reading you. You're one of the most thoughtful, insightful diarists I've read.

All I know is that when I argued with frustrati troublemakers, they kept on saying I could go the same way as you

The selfsame people were always claiming to be victims of censorship, groupthink, lack of tolerance and dissent, and yet used your example as a chilling threat.

I won't forget that.

And so no, I don't know what happened. But it made me think about you a lot.

I don't post so much as I have a full time gig as a journalist on the daily beast (just published a book about Murdoch and about to begin one on scientology).

Tomorrow, several TV appearances because of the Leveson report. But I owe a lot of what I do now to the fights we had with those who try to upset us. The Moose taught me civility and discourse. Kos taught me to have a very thick skin. That's been very useful in the midst of the hacking scandal and argument here. Nothing is as bad as Kos or MYDD in one of those personalised pie fights

I had enough pie over Thanksgiving. Just prior to Thanksgiving, I got an invite by a cousin I hadn't seen in 30 years. She knew exactly what to make - Quebec Pork Pies!!  OMG. I hadn't had one of those in years. So delicious. But, not very good pie, health wise.

I'm so rarely at GOS, I didn't even know you'd been banned there.  there's plenty to like at daily kos, but anymore you have to know how to find it, and i don't have time for that kind of digging. i've got kids in honor rolls, karate, and water polo, and a full-time job, and i'm (again) a full-time student, and i'm running a marathon relay in a few days.  i don't have time for that crap.  also, i grow weary of people who think they always have all the answers (rox or sux), so i generally don't waste time there.  here at the moose, the pace often slow, but always more deliberate and thoughtful. convos stretch out over weeks, not hours.  here, i always learn things.  and we're fun.  and funny.  we're all real.  some of us know each other in meatspace.  our families 'blog' here.  my youngest is now 4 years old, and this silly purple blog has known him since before he was born.

we come and go as we please, and you're welcome to do the same.  i can tell you this, nobody treats others with disrespect here.  ever.  it just doesn't happen.  and even when things get testy, the make-up sessions are full-on emoporn.

It's a feature, not a bug, to me (2.00 / 5)

that the pace is so much slower here than at other places.  I don't always have time to go through the meatier contributions here with the deliberation and appreciation they deserve, and it's good to know that they won't have been scrolled off the front page in an hour by yet another flock of self-righteous screeds about Obama selling us out or why haven't our ponies arrived or... well, it's been a long time since I've bothered with the GOS; the search for useful needles in the massive haystacks there became not worth the effort for me.

Other venues I frequent have more traffic and a swifter turnover of articles than here (though not at the frenetic rate of DKos and with greater civility than that place), but the sedate pace of the Moose is always welcoming, always here when I elbow out enough time to savor its fruits with the full attention they deserve.

There are things to be said for the joys of what to others might seem a backwater flow.

I'm glad you landed here...there are a couple others who have been banished from the GOS that are still MIA.

I've been....scarce.
To say the least.

"RL" has had me busy busy busy...and even during election season I only had time to pop in sporadically.

I HOPE this will change with the New Year...I miss mah Moose family!

Well there are no goats walking around with a smile so over a year after my banning I still wouldn't ask Markos Moulitsas for a thing including the ability to drive clicks to his website with my thoughts.

I still lurk there as much as I did before I became a member and from what I can see I would be tossed out again in a New York minute.  As much as I appreciate the views of the vast majority of posters over there (why I still read it) the culture over there is still one just dripping in the privilege that when I opposed it got me tossed. Which brings me to an issue that my life on twitter has exposed.  The progressive alliance between Blacks and Whites is in danger of being broken.  Period.  It's going to be over the moon difficult to motivate the black electorate without Obama on the ballot when we see weeks after one of the nastiest disenfranchisement efforts since Jim Crow was a baby launched against us and every nasty racist attack from Susan Rice to just whatever still launched.  If I'm any barometer we are weary of being on the front lines taking mass casualties while it appears our progressive friends are more interested in whatever outrage has their hair on fire today.

I'm also curious if the hypocrisy of a place that tossed Black thought because it made Whites uncomfortable to think about thinks it's a "libertarian" free speech zone does not burn?  Yeah don't miss that place.

I put a shingle out at Peoples View and did a little work there, but for the most part I'm finding Twitter to be ever so much fun.  One you don't have to do the work that a blog post entails, and mostly you get to pretty much control who and what you deal with.  I'll throw something up here for sure as well when the mood strikes me it just strikes me less.

That's why I dig the moose here.  We're laid back :)

I bailed on the place a long time ago, while The Nephew was still a heartwarming story line.  Seems to me somewhere, sometime later I came across a mention of TN having been outed as a sock or troll or something, certainly not what he'd represented himself to be.  Zat right?  And if so, what's the Reader's Digest version of the tale?

He first began posting as a woman from Florida. That handle seemed to be screaming for attention with every post, but didn't get much traction. Then, that handle invented another handle called The Nephew. Auntie spun an amazing and absolutely not credible drama about the nephew being booted from his fundy parents home after coming out as gay. Many of us suspected it from the beginning. Many got sucked in and the nephew became a big hit with a substantial fan club. At least a few dozen knew him for what he was - a fraud, and would occasionally confront him. The Nephew knew exactly who his detractors were and would occasionally taunt them fully knowing his fan club would come to his defense and pile on. Inevitably a few got banned, notably Timaeus, who was seriously victimized. When the truth finally came out that the The Nephew was a fraud who was really some married, straight guy in North Carolina with serious problems, things got even uglier as those who most vociferously defended him refused to accept responsibility and went into complete denial mode resulting in even more pie fights. Not one of DailyKOS's finer moments.

Not an atypical DKos saga.  Lefties bristle at being accused of a hive mind and rightfully so (mostly), but there are enclaves at DKos (and elsewhere in Progressiveland) where the accusation is spot on.  Color me totally unsurprised at the arc of this story; The Nephew's tale was skillfully bedecked with so many bright shiny objects for sucking in Kossites, and the wars over Obamacare made glaringly clear to me how dug-in people could get over their cherished positions, no matter how shaky the underpinnings.

I definitely didn't want to miss the chance to say hello and hope you post again or just read my warm wishes. I've missed your presence a lot, hon. I was literally just in the bookstore today with my son, killing a half hour, and wound up in travel (where else?) and was looking at a dozen Greek Islands in some Frommer's type guide when I totally flashed on you. So there. You are in my psychic space for good.

Sorry to hear you were caught up in eight-year old pie. That's stale as Hell. Start fresh!

Thank you so much for that comment. I've made 3 or 4 requests for reinstatement with the requisite apologies with no response. Its been several months. I'd always understood that if a sincere request were made, it would receive consideration and likely be granted. I suppose someone really wanted me gone. Its hard for me to believe my mistake was anywhere near as grievous as some who were banned and were allowed to return in a few days.

I haven't given up though. I will keep trying from time to time.

I was in Greece again just this past August. I had a wonderful time but it was very, very hot, especially in Santorini. In Mykonos, I went over to Delos one morning because I wanted to see the birthplace of Apollo. Even though it was morning, it was very hot. I did alot of walking in the full son and drank about 2 liters of water just to stay hydrated. Even so, I was an awesome visit. I'm so glad I went. I stayed cool during the afternoon, and that night we went out to dinner for my partner's birthday, at a restaurant called Katerina's, right on the water in front of the famous 3 windmills. Absolutely great and so was the food. Later, went out to Jackie O's, a club on the waterfront. It was great.
