But of course, as I wrote on DKos, we're back to traffic inducing rox-sux wars. It's 2009 all over again: same participants (largely) only repeating itself like The Hobbit at inordinate length and with no narrative tension. We know how the movie ends.

But if more GOP candidates can be like him on other issues (i.e. gun control, civil rights, the budget), we'd be in a better place.
PS- the party primaried him because they found him to be too liberal.
I hope so, we need a two-party system. "Conway, whom experience had taught that rudeness was by no means a guarantee of good faith, was even less inclined to regard a well-turned phrase as a proof of insincerity." James Hilton, Lost Horizon
But I am all for seeing a return of sane Republicans, the Eisenhower type. The rise of the Teapublican has been bad for the country and for political discourse overall.
I don't understand why the political etiquette of "disagree, but don't be disagreeable" got jettisoned. Politics is not a purity game, it is always, always about compromise and pragmatism. Sometimes the deals stink. Sometimes the deals are surprisingly good. But entrenched positions will get us nowhere but stuck in the muck. But at least now I know how to embed hovers in my photos:
A move by Shell to avoid millions in Alaska state taxes may have backfired when the oil rig Kulluk ran aground Monday on Kodiak Island. The rig initially went adrift while it was being towed to a shipyard and tax shelter in Seattle. Instead, the vessel found itself literally stuck inside Alaska at the start of the new year.

In separating ourselves from the political blog herd, we set out to build a new place to gather that had clear lines of moderation, fostered a strong community, promoted reasoned discourse and well-researched diaries, and included a healthy dose of snark and dry wit. While we trend to the Left, we are focused on political pragmatism because we believe that without a dialogue from across the political spectrum, we'll never be able to move forward, beyond partisanship and rhetoric, and make progress on the challenges we face. We have built a strong community on which the success of the blog rests, and we believe that one blog and one blogger can make a difference in the world.
And one of the rules:
It is emphatically not acceptable to try to negatively dissuade other members from voting for the Democratic candidate.
Ponies make lovely Christmas presents, but waiting for them is a non-fulfilling prophesy.
America - and indeed most of the world - is some shade of centrist. The "far" ideologies are intellectual exercises (some would say "mental masturbation", but we try to be more understanding than that), not to be confused with anything that might keep you from being eaten by a bear. The Moose tries to be a place that lives in the real world, where ponies are lovely but being eaten by bears is a more often immediate concern. "Conway, whom experience had taught that rudeness was by no means a guarantee of good faith, was even less inclined to regard a well-turned phrase as a proof of insincerity." James Hilton, Lost Horizon
Am I happy with centrist pragmatism...not really. But life needs compromise and negotiations. We need to find common ground with those in the middle that have ideas on both sides of center.
Glad to be here!
"It is what it is" is a phrase I have been picked on for using, most of my adult life.
But it is, so we always start from there.
And definitive ideologies? Where we know the outcome of decisions in complex environments before they are acted out?
Really?
I have opinions - many of them very strong and often enough bloody-mindedly clung onto - but I don't know what will happen with more/less of a given action/policy/way of life. Not one to advocate sitting on fences, either, I am happy to encourage others to go out and try whatever they feel strongly about (it almost always leads to learning things we were not expecting). That parenthetical bit, there, is the point. "Conway, whom experience had taught that rudeness was by no means a guarantee of good faith, was even less inclined to regard a well-turned phrase as a proof of insincerity." This year we had Jared Huffman running for Congress and he was considered a moderate for us. Anywhere else in the country (excluding Santa Cruz and Berkeley) he would be far left liberal.
Everyone I know is an activist of some sort. Be it for the environment, social change, human rights...everyone is active. It is the best part of here. People talking to each other, even our few Republicans, to make things happen. A lot of us swallow hard and vote for things we don't like totally but that is life.

Then, in the WA-01 primary, she broke a pledge to not go negative. But let the PI explain in Darcy Burner flip-flops, goes furiously negative
With signs she is falling behind, 1st District U.S. House candidate Darcy Burner has reversed a campaign pledge and gone furiously negative in an attack mailing directed at fellow Democrat Suzan DelBene. The attack mailing, sent out five days before the Aug. 7 primary, is in the tradition of political hit pieces designed to land on doorsteps at the last minute. "What is she hiding?" it asks of DelBene, and likens "multimillionaire Suzan DelBene" to "multimillionaire Mitt Romney." ... Burner became a hero to liberal "NetRoots" Democratic activists across the country during her 2006 and 2008 campaigns against Reichert. A majority of her contributors in the 2012 campaign come from out of state. Burner has been relentlessly boosted by the Berkeley, Calif.-based dailykos.com web site. She has touted her Afghanistan peace plan at a conference in Berlin, appeared on a panel with Occupy leaders at a New York forum, and was given a marquee speaking slot at the national NetRoots Nation conference last June in Providence, R.I.

Darcy Burner was a very engaging speaker at NN12. I saw her as part of a panel although I was not quite sure what she had in common with Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin and Mazie Hirono ... I think it is likely that she got her spot because of her ties to liberal blogs. She would make someone an excellent chief of staff but she is no politician. Words have meaning.
