Nurse Kelley Sez: Thanks for the welcome!

by: Nurse Kelley

Fri Jan 04, 2013 at 20:11:39 PM EST

We recent runaways from Daily Kos barged in here yesterday when no one was home, admired the color scheme, made some coffee, and raided the 'fridge. (There's mold on your cheese, Brit.) Y'all came back today and found us sleeping on your desks, but instead of throwing us out or calling the cops, you shook our hands and allowed us to stay. Even without showers.

Thanks! We're kinda beat up and have wounds to lick, so your hospitality was particularly special.

Now where's this Lounge I read about in the FAQ?

I didn't see a place for tags and I didn't realize "save" = "post". This nurse has a lot to learn, so please be patient.

[ Parent ]
Hiya Hedwig! (2.00 / 5)
Good to see you!

[ Parent ]
There you are! (2.00 / 3)
I have missed you and your diaries (((Lightbulb)))

[ Parent ]
Hi! (2.00 / 2)
Thanks, great to see you!

I am uncertain about posting diaries at this time, the moderators don't like it if something is deleted because it messes up the comment threads. But on the other hand, I appreciated the ability to do that when it became needed elsewhere....so I don't know.

I'll definitely be in comments however!

[ Parent ]
Oh, please, (2.00 / 2)
post away.

We will deal with whatever logistics come our way, the last thing the Moose wants is to have structure stand in the way of content.

John Askren - "Never get into a pissing match with a skunk."

[ Parent ]
Well, look what the Moose dragged in!!! (2.00 / 4)
Just got here myself!

Should I tell the nice Moose that I'm more likely to write about constipation than politics?

Could be writing about diarrhea. Or guitars.

[ Parent ]
I only cover diarrhea on request. :) (2.00 / 21)
True story: one of my very first diaries at DK was something like, "Even Democrats Get Constipated". I held my breath, expecting to find myself on the first train out of town ... but it turns out my title was correct.

Guitars? I don't know nothin' about guitars. What's the backstory?

here on the Moose. Their addiction is tolerated, but hopefully the Constipation Interest Group will supplant them. /fogiv

I see what you did there. (2.00 / 14)
Pickin' on the new girl, huh? I clicked on the link and fell down the rabbit hole for almost an  hour. I agree, the guitar porn is a bit excessive, but that's one of the best comment threads I've read in ... well ... too long. In it's way, it's a great primer for new guys, as well as a chance to see names I've missed terribly. Thanks!

It's been a long time since I've written (2.00 / 19)
because usually by the time I think of something substantive or worthwhile to say, someone else has already done it better and more succinctly. I'm one hell of an appreciative reader/reccer/commenter though!

[ Parent ]
Don't hesitate to post when the spirit moves you (2.00 / 17)
One of the neat things about this place is that we welcome a wide variety of topics, not just political stuff.

Another neat thing is the slower pace compared to dKos; you won't spend hours writing, sourcing, and polishing a diary, only to see it scrolled away within minutes into oblivion as a throng of Obama sux caver-in-chief where's my pony? diaries flood the site.

If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done subjunctively.

The time pressure of DKOS or more "news" oriented sites is its own thing. (2.00 / 14)
If you want to be a journalist it can be quite thrilling.

But, for my small part in the Moose, I prefer conversation to scoops. Most of the issues we really care about are not events or even really event-driven, they are ongoing complexities we need to ponder. A good opening statement followed by a considered conversation which is itself much longer is often appropriate. A good article followed by hundreds of one-liners... can be OK. But for anything serious the latter makes more sense.

That way you can cruise through the comments since last you looked.

What DKOS has done with the comments really is the best, but it requires custom code the Moose has not gotten to.

HI HI HI HI HI!

Don't you worry about it, I've always hung out here since I left DK and I'm a real force on twitter now as Adept2u there as everywhere including Facebook etc.  There is absolutely no need to be upset about my absence over there I imagine if I were to ask I'd be allowed back, but that's the thing.  No thanks.  The only way I'd ever return there is if whatever ban was applied was lifted and Markos front paged an article apologizing for besmirching my honor, and since we know that ain't gonna happen I'm more than content to chew the cud here at the Moose.

Well I am glad I decoded my Moose password (2.00 / 15)
Man, it has not been the same there. Okay, I know that's like the oldest line in the world. But it has NOT.BEEN.THE.SAME.THERE. without you.

I understand about your reasons for staying away. Damn the man, but I'm just glad to see you already!

So how are you doing? What's up? All's good, yeah?  Life, the universe, everything treating you well?

My blessings multiply exponentially (2.00 / 15)
If you run around the Moose at all you'll see me dropping the trail of my Lucian the grandboy who is my chief blessing right now.  Sweetie and I still explore the world and our place in it, I still see UFOs and will scream to anyone who will listen I can show them too.

That place will never be the same or can it.  It's run through the vanity of one man and institutions like that will always have problems regardless of the goodness of the man.  I don't know the dude personally so I cant speak on it, but I can say he's just not very smart, and I will never submit myself voluntarily to the regime of such people.

I still read the DK mostly for the Science stuff to be honest, and things like the guy who flies the B-52s.  To see wave after wave of the same old thing Slink linking poltico bullshit to criticize the President and the hole place catching on fire it's like groundhog day I'm glad to wake up.

Ive been threatening to blog again, but to be honest not much has made me want to.  There are the outrages against Black folks but everytime you yell about something like that and nothing happens and it happens again it gets my cynical going and I'm avoiding that.  But there is a fire I see burning out there in twitter land.  strangely I dont see anyone talking about it on the DK.  Black people are red hot mad at what they call Emoprog dissenter whatever.  To the point 2014 is going to bring some punishment from the other end.  I can see it already but Barack Obama is Black and we worked so hard to elect him.  Here's the answer to treat him like your servant and echo the insults of the other side as easily as rain water flows down hill.  They may think 150K in tax difference is important enough to disrespect the President when the very act of it is enough to cost any person who calls themselves a "progressive" my vote.  Straight out.

Anyhow pretty soon here I'll be able to blog about the subject without producing a string of FU's and maybe some coherent thoughts.

Why is America afraid of Black men?

That shit had me on the floor rolling, asking a place so afraid of Black men their typed words caused them to posse up and toss them out.

Lucian -- what a fantastic name (2.00 / 10)
That's gorgeous. Saw a picture of him last night. What a cutie pie. I'm super baby-happy right now. I think since we last talked, I've had six nieces and nephews come into the world? Well that's the body count now.

Two diaries I would love to read: you talking UFO's and you talking black men as a source of terror for America. I still feel like the reaction to Obama is based partially in the old miscegenation terrors combo'd with like some agrarian terror about Nat Turner. Obama's a cipher for the fears and stereotypes which pervade our very non-post-racial society. The man's a mirror for projection. And also, he's sadly a spectacle in a white-dominated Government (I mean that lovingly and critically both). I have a ton to say about that anyways, but I'd rather hear it from you and anyone who has lived in non-white skin; I'm happier to talk about how so many white folks stereotype and don't even notice it.

A Populist is like a Progressive without a commitment to social equality, civil rights, and social justice at the fore, I think.

UFO REQUEST: APPROVED! : ) (2.00 / 8)
http://adept2u.blogspot.com/20...

Source of terror falls into one of those too much work things ; )  I did write a story once kind of nat turnerish, had a black scientist developing time travel with the help of mental strength given by his creole grammy.  He goes back to Haiti circa 1790 and brings the secret of metal jacketed ammunition the machine gun iron clads and rifled repeating artillery.  The Great Invasion of Emancipation is epic.  Wonder if QT wants to read it.

Hey MO (2.00 / 14)
vcmvo2 here. I followed the trail of breadcrumbs from one of the diaries here. I changed my name to vcetc because the mvo2 is always confusing to people. And one of my black kos friends refers to me as vc etc! And I liked it.

So glad to see so many missing people!

Excellent to see you (2.00 / 10)

Hey - welcome (2.00 / 10)
You've always been such a great support on GOS. Great to see you here

So good to see you bro!  Kos has not been the same without you and I have barely posted since you left. Look forward to whatever you write. Is Mally here too?

[ Parent ]
Ha! Made it! I read another TTFN at the GOS (2.00 / 17)
and found this linky... here I am!
I did avoid the diaries there wherein many purists became serial trolls because they were hatin' on our Prez, but it's always nice to find a community that I can be a part of that is more kind, gentle, and pragmatic! I've also been over at The People's View for a while now, I really like that gathering place too because it's not so full of itself. I'll hang around GOS, not so much for the political wars but because I like some of the communities there.  And a great big "Hey there" to bjm and Nurse Kelley, and others who found this place before me.

Welcome, Merry Light! (2.00 / 11)
You'll see lots of people  you know here, just hanging out and talking about stuff. And posting LOLs - can't ever have too many of those! I predict a pootie diary will go up this evening, unless my sources are wrong. Hugggs!

Please read (especially new members)... (2.00 / 10)
For the next 48 hours (or so) the 1 day hold on commenting will be lifted for new members.

So, if you have just registered, or are planning to, you will be able to skip the normal 24-hr waiting period and comment immediately.

In a couple days the waiting period will go back into effect (it drastically cuts down on the spam...and saves the time and energy of playing whack-a-mole with the spammers).

Carry on....

So that's why I was able to post right away! (2.00 / 8)
I then read the FAQ's, and thought, hmmmm.  So, lots of good people fleeing the bad karma from elsewhere, you would think after the election things would have calmed down.
Glad to be here! Thanks.

I am another Kossack although I'm not leaving there.

Kelley invited me over here, and Kelley just totally rocks, so here I am.

Good to see ya in purple!  /grin

Lots of Moose are active in Orange as well...it is not an either/or sort of deal. You are in good company.

I agree about nurses and librarians (though, there are always the Ratchets and 'shushers' trying to ruin the trend).

Welcome to teh Moose, I'm thrilled to have you join the conversation. :)

This is gogogoeverton from DailyKos; signing up said my name had already been taken, weird! Anyway, this seems like a positive place and I love all the names I recognize here. Good to see you Nurse Kelly, Makahli, et all!

hmmm, I think we can fix that but it may cause you to limp and crave avocado... (2.00 / 8)
You may have been hit by the Curse of the Doubleclick. I can kill the other account and change your name if you like.
