Happy Friday, F-ers! It's so nice to see the week drawing to an end, except for the fact that we're all a week older (which is great if you're about to turn 21).

Questions: For the meat eaters: Rare, medium rare, or well done? Trees: deciduous or evergreen? What is your favorite kind of tree? Gilligan or Maynard G. Krebs? What do you crave more often, sweet or savory? What is your least favorite color? What song makes you run screaming from the room? If you could match up any two pundits in a cage match, which ones would you chose? Which one would win?

The Twitter Stream:

Now for the history lesson!

Buenas dias! (2.00 / 21)
I wanna go back to sleep but it's hard to do that at work. No privacy!

It's 45 here now and expected to reach about 80.

Sure you can! Put on the big sunglasses, prop up your head on your (2.00 / 18)
hands (elbows on desk, hands perpendicular to elbows) and face your monitor. Voilà! If you snore, though, that might make it a little tougher.

I ran the Baling Room at a printing plant for six years, (2.00 / 14)
got sleeping on the job down to a fine art. On night shifts I could sleep sitting up on the forklift between the two main machines and wake up right on time to service them (usually ;~). Would lay a bale of shredding paper (the size of fridges) down sideways behind a row of upright bales and make a nest of work jackets during quiet periods.

Good thing we didn't have digital cameras back then.

For the meat eaters: Rare, medium rare, or well done?  about 37% past medium rare toward medium (depending on the cut).  notable:  AFAIC, the best steak in the western US can be had at Jack's in Redding, CA.  hole in the wall; smoke stained; been open since the 1930s. filet mignon comes 16 oz.  they serve steak: new yorks and filet mignon.  that's it.  that's the menu.  i think you can order prawns, but everyone in a 75 mile radius will know instantly, and hate you.

Until it closed in 2009 it was the second-oldest restaurant in town, dating all the way back to 1864. In the early days it had private rooms upstairs that were used for illicit sexual encounters; by the time I came along and was working downtown it was the haunt of staid old businessmen.

Here's a little article about the place, with a picture of how the building looks now.

My answers to my questions (2.00 / 2)
For the meat eaters: Rare, medium rare, or well done? almost burnt on the outside, pink on the inside

Trees: deciduous or evergreen?  Both, the combination of red, yellow, orange and green in the fall is spectacular. I've always preferred the multi-colored arrangement. Not that it happens here. :(

What is your favorite kind of tree? Jacaranda. At peak bloom they are breathtaking.

Gilligan or Maynard G. Krebs? Maynard, he's lazy, like me.

What do you crave more often, sweet or savory? Savory. Like I'm craving now (which would be bacon, sausage, eggs over medium, potatoes and sourdough toast)

What is your least favorite color? Barbie pink. Paler pink is OK

What song makes you run screaming from the room? Don't Stop Believing

If you could match up any two pundits in a cage match, which ones would you chose? I second virginislandguy's suggestion of the drinking match between Noonan and Dowd, but let's throw in Mary Matalin.

Which one would win? I have no earthly idea

One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries. - A.A. Milne
