Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

JanF :: Wednesday Morning Check-in and Open Thread for the Moose People
If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:
- Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.
- To check for replies to your comments, click the "My Comments" link in the right-hand column (or go to "My Moose"). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)
- Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can't Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

~

This is pretty darned easy to remember ... the posting rules for a new diary:

Be excellent to each other... or else

From Kysen's keyboard to your eyes:

Think of our comment threads as dinner table conversations. We start with the assumption that all come to the conversation with good intentions and go from there. If you get upset or angry, get up from the table and step outside for a bit.

For those looking for a second chance to make a first impression, that is very good advice.

8 degrees in Madison WI (2.00 / 29)

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

6 degrees outside, this morning (2.00 / 23)
Wind Chill of -6. The wind died down and it wasn't as bad out as expected. Still made for a quiet night at work. Those are always the best kind.

It's almost tropical outside this morning.  ;-)

Our wind chill is 1. (2.00 / 21)
The difference between 1 and 8 is not one that is really significant, in my mind. They are talking about flurries which does not please me at all because I am driving today.

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

I agree with you. (2.00 / 20)
When it's that cold, what's a few degrees between friends.

Beautiful morning (2.00 / 20)
66 and breezy this morning in sunny Florida

And I thought of you when I read this today Jan:

I saw this and thought of you. ;-) (2.00 / 20)

Oh my! LOL (2.00 / 17)
That's what they said all right. I remember being sent out to shovel when we moved there. I was 11 and I would shovel the drive and turn around and see all the snow drifting up behind me. I went inside in tears... and it never got better. I hope your weather up that way gets better soon. If not you can always come down here for a visit.

[ Parent ]
awwww....poor puppy! n/t (2.00 / 12)

Ha! You have seen me post videos from that movie a lot. (2.00 / 17)
This is pretty true:

I guess I would not wear a shirt that said "prepare to die" simply because "words have meaning" but I have seen much worse on t-shirts.

Good morning Jan.

Good morning, princesspat. (2.00 / 8)
I canceled my travel because I won't drive in bad weather and it started snowing here. I promised my daughter I would take her to school because I wouldn't be able to pick her up and I saw enough to tell me that I did not want to drive anywhere. It is not just driving but parking at my destination and then getting home.

How are you today?

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

[ Parent ]
I'm slow and sleepy today..... (2.00 / 8)
All last year I longed to be more actively engaged in my life....and now that I am I've having trouble keeping up.

I know it's good for the environment to have so much snow, but I'm sorry you have to deal with it.....I prefer rain. Feel free to remind me I said that the next time I gripe about being wet!

Love is the lasting legacy of our lives

[ Parent ]
I am not jealous (2.00 / 15)
Not jealous at all!

At times I think I'd like to live in Florida due to the temps, then the next hurricane hits and I think not so much.

But today...okay, I'm jealous.

Howdy, Moozoog. (2.00 / 20)
There be some scary stuff going on in the universe, too much sadness and too much loneliness coming through on the blogs these days. We need to connect with our fellow Moozoog AND hoomins better, but I'm so far away that phoning isn't an option. Written words are not always enough - any ideas about what the heck is going on?

Chilly in Deutschland, freezing, but clear and sunny. Snow phase seems to be over for now, but colder weather forecast for the next few days.

I don't know, but this is a very bad week. (2.00 / 19)
Much too much loss.

Not sure where to ask this (2.00 / 21)
so I will ask it here.

I am starting a diary series that will be by multiple people: Food, glorious food!

I don't know if there are ways here on the Moose to coordinate this, or if other people have done series that have multiple authors. I am fine with just anyone posting whenever, and using a title starting with Food glorious food.

But if people have advice, I'm listening (well, really, I'm reading).

Morning (2.00 / 21)
14 this morning, heading for a high of 25, which is not as low as we were supposed to get and a raise of the forecase high so I guess I should consider it balmy.

Good sleeping weather.

Got prednisone for my poison ivy so now I can stop itching and burning and puff up like a balloon instead.

looking for my warm gloves. Good morning to all.

we're fogged in (2.00 / 17)
this morning, after it burns off it should be a nice day. In the meantime I'm really glad we don't need to be anywhere so we can wait this out safely. It's supposed to make it into the mid 70s today-that's a warm up all right.

looks so strange. During drought periods it is the only moisture we see so mostly the locals happily stay home to wait it out. The sun will burn it off soon enough.

I have to be in the office on Friday, and it is supposed to snow. School starts again on Monday. I have two small classes. this makes up for last semester. The good news is that the builders have started to repair our house.

How long will the repairs take? (2.00 / 7)
Hope you're able to keep the house somewhat warm with this cold snap we're having.  I'm contemplating working from home on Friday if the forecast holds.

glad your check made it.  it's really sorta scary when the checks are late, at least to me it is.

I was born & raised in St. Louis but went to Houston for my job (2.00 / 6)
in 1966.  Left Houston for Colorado in 2000 and came to Columbia in June of last year.  Getting old and my sister, who has lived in Columbia for about 45 years, decided I needed to be closer to family.  Columbia is a nice town of about 110,000 permanent residents and around 35,000 Univ. of Mo. students.  It may be a sorta purple place, but it still elects Republicans to US Congress.  Phooey.

Many people are composing their diaries on the GOS because they are familiar with that editor. Once it is composed, the code should be able to be copied here. There are only a few HTML commands that don't work here and the editor will tell you.

You have to put a backslash (slosh) in front of each > and < to stop it from executing.

[ Parent ]
Her comments were comprehensive, and her patience was impressive.... (2.00 / 9)
This will be the main soundbite, but I hope some will understand the substance of her testimony.....

In a rare moment of confrontation, Mrs. Clinton responded to persistent questions from Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, by saying that there was too much focus on how the Benghazi attack was characterized in its early hours and not enough on how to prevent a recurrence.

"What difference at this point does it make?" she said, raising her voice and noting that there were "four dead Americans."

"It is our job to figure out what happened and to make sure it doesn't happen again," she snapped.
