Open Thread for commonmass and GMB02 Updates Started 1/26

Wed Jan 23, 2013 at 19:17:16 PM EST

The Moose has graciously allowed this post to serve as an open thread for us to share any updates we find about the dire health situation of GMB02.
While commonmass hasn't put up a new diary in two days he is commenting in others.  What we know as of now is that GMB02 is becoming a bit aware of what's going on and the ventilator is at a lower setting.  So at least a bit of positivity.
Please add whatever you find and if it's big news I'll edit the diary and bring it into the body.  Otherwise check here as you see new comments added.
Any other thoughts to help facilitate the flow of info?  Also, if it bogs down or falls off anyone just put up a new one.
Thanks Moose.

that's good to hear (2.00 / 20)
pray he will recover.

Oh, I so hope so! (2.00 / 20)

"Pin your money to your girdle and don't talk to strangers."  My Grandmom's advice when I went away to school.  I don't wear a girdle and have never met a stranger.  Sorry Grandmom!

hoping the universe (2.00 / 21)
grants them both kindness, or at least takes no more notice of GMB02 and commonmass.

Does the morgue wagon come with the job?

The prognosis is not good, so keep them both in your (2.00 / 23)
prayers. This is so sad.

It's so sad BJM. I wish we could take it from them. (2.00 / 20)

Me too. (2.00 / 15)
Thanks for posting the update and the link to the diary.

I am heartbroken (2.00 / 16)
They have been in my thoughts all day. It's a great love story and they should have been able to live it out for many years.

I know Bill is being supported by the overwhelming surge of love. I hope GMB02 can feel it too.

My heart is breaking. (2.00 / 20)
They were such a joyous story.  And this is so wrenching. Sending them the light... And to their families and anyone who loves them.

[ Parent ]
I know. Remember writing congratulations (2.00 / 19)
on their engagement and hoping to hear more about their wedding plans. And now this.  As, unfortunately, most of you know, life can be filled with overwhelming sorrow. Hoping for the best but am happy that they did find joy in this life. Joy is a rare and special gift.

:( (2.00 / 13)
I saw from commonmass' update that there's no chance of recovery at all. I thought there was a slim chance, and that's what I was glad for. I hate talking about death as if it's a foregone conclusion, but I pray both of them have the strength to get through this and I know they will be surrounded by love.

his latest update is a little more hopeful (2.00 / 12)
It's an update to the diary itself, things are a little better than they were.  Still not a lot of hope for recovery, but not no hope, either.  Still praying my heart out for a miracle.

[ Parent ]
And GMB02 is beginning to pee, which doesn't sound exciting (2.00 / 6)
but it is a very, very good sign - his kidney may be recovering.

[ Parent ]
That sounds like good news. (2.00 / 5)

Let us rejoice for pee! At least it's positive. (2.00 / 4)

Hooray for Your In Nation! (2.00 / 2)
That is massive. I haven't followed closely and don't know those involved, but from taking a look at the DKOS article this is as close to a miracle as can be hoped for.

Don't know the algorithm here as to why this popped back up. (2.00 / 10)
I updated this morning, as did Avilyn, that GMB02 was still hanging in with slight improvement.  All I know right now.

Oh no! (2.00 / 5)
Glad he has the love and support of the family, they are not alone.

Bill (commonmass) is posting now, but in other diaries. (1.67 / 6)
He wrote that there has been modest improvement, but still a long way to go. Here's a link to his comment about the current state of things:

Thanks for the update. Should we make this an update open thread? (2.00 / 5)

Go ahead, if you want to, but it might be helpful (2.00 / 6)
to add today's date in the title, otherwise it's a little hard to tell which one is the most recent. He had 2 or 3 comments up about it at DK today, if you want to flesh it out a bit. I'm about to go offline, as it's almost bedtime in Old Europe, so it would be nice of you to do this.

I sent an email to the Moose to ask if this is ok to do. If it is (2.00 / 5)
I'll fix the title and flesh it out.  That would be good IMO so we could have a central update location.  I posted this the other night and know know why it came back up.  Sweet dreams!

That would be "don't know why". Sheesh. (2.00 / 4)

Go ahead. (2.00 / 3)
Please.

And the key points, for quick reference: (2.00 / 5)
"...my partner is marginally better. Still on the vent and dialysis, but they have been able to turn the vent down some and he's showing some signs of knowing what is happening, though he is still in a medically induced coma (they have reduced the drip on that).

We are cautiously optimistic at this time. His twin brother and nephew will be with me here in Portland for a while."

Thanks for the link. He must be exhausted. (2.00 / 4)
