Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

JanF :: Saturday Morning Herd Check-in and Open Thread for the Moosekins
If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:
- Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.
- To check for replies to your comments, click the "My Comments" link in the right-hand column (or go to "My Moose"). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)
- Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can't Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.
- If you Fail someone accidentally, it is no big deal. Meesely Mentor Chris Blask on "mojo":
"The Moose doesn't do "mojo" in a standard fashion. Credit is earned on a more amorphous social basis than traditional blogoprofiling - more like real life."

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

~

This is pretty darned easy to remember ... the posting rules for a new diary:

Be excellent to each other... or else

From Chris Blask on Moosing:

... the Moose is an exercise in socialization. While there is a political tilt to it and we try to talk about serious issues as much as is tolerable, an overarching goal of civility in discourse is much more the point.

Like any group of friends there are moments when things can get a bit dodgy, either because some lunkhead is crashing the party or a couple good friends butt heads, but like any healthy group we try and usually succeed to come back into balance.

~

If you are a new moose (or an old moose) looking for a second chance to make a first impression, you can start right here.

~

Per Kysen's UPDATED (not BREAKING) diary:

UPDATE: The IE Comment Issue has been SOLVED. All IE users should be able to resume normal Moosey activity. Three cheers for John Allen!

Welcome back, IE hostages!!

6 degrees in Madison WI (2.00 / 31)

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

Khloe had to work late this morning, so this is a fill-in diary. (2.00 / 28)

She will be around later to greet you all. In the meantime, talk among yourselves.

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

I've seen both of Kelley's boys in this pose. The picture (2.00 / 12)
kind of looks like both of them (Burmese guys).

OMG, (2.00 / 30)
it's 29 degrees in central AL!

That's just messed up man.

Three cheers for John indeed.

He is much missed.

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

I hadn't heard of him until he swooped in like a white knight and gave me my illicit office stress reliever back. So he has officially become my hero of the interwebs.

I dunno... (2.00 / 22)
I think I've spent too much time on pootie/woozle diaries.  I am starting to believe pooties and woozles really ARE on the other side of the computer.... Heh heh

Thank goodness i think this way, too... Helps me distinguish between the reasonable vs the unreasonable. ;-) (pooties and woozles being the reasonable of course! :-D.... Its why I hang out in those diaries so much!)

[ Parent ]
I enjoy pootie diaries because.... (2.00 / 18)
I can relax in them. There is enough stress in my everyday life. The community spirit and laughter really go a long way in helping me heal from the stress. Also, much cheaper then a therapist.

Thanks, John. It is much appreciated. For some reason, the Firefox on my confuser doesn't play well with this site. I've tried updating, but it doesn't help. So, I use either IE or Opera.

I hope we have snow instead of more of that freezing rain stuff we got last week - can't tell you how many traffic pile-ups there were in New Paltz and on the Thruway - it was scary

but no one thinks of it like that. Just like Brooklyn and Queens are part of Long Island, but if you are in Brooklyn and say you are going to Long Island, everyone knows you aren't staying put.

Lol

And i go into the... So,  are you crossing a bridge to get to Long Island? Huh huh?

;-)

[ Parent ]
Yup. And there's more (2.00 / 16)
If you are in Brooklyn and you say you are "going to the city" you mean Manhattan, even though Brooklyn is part of New York City. It would make more sense for "going to the island" to mean Manhattan (which is an island and separate from Brooklyn).

Then there's the Henry Hudson Parkway! Does ANYONE call it that? Avenue of the Americas? HELLO!

The IE thing is only a weekday problem for me (at work) but I am now a huge fan of the mysterious John Allen. I was beginning to think the Moose invasion of 2013 had broken the interwebs.

It's freakin' cold outside this morning. Wisconsin and Michigan have an Alberta clipper taking over our weather pattern. It's dropped just enough snow to slick up the roads.
Punxsutawney Phil saw no shadow. We shall get an early spring. Me thinks Phil hit the nip last night. I wonder what Wisconsin Jimmy says on the subject......

Yah... Today (2.00 / 19)
Or rather these past few days, they have been kept separated.  The elders have been getting stressed by the youngers whacko energy.  I think even indoor pooties start going crazy with cabin fever in the winter!

It helps that the elders get a little breathing room without feeling like some youngster is gonna jump them from around the corner! :-\

Strangely, the only time they all get along is food time... But i can't keep feeding them 24/7 to keep the peace! Lol

I am counting the hours until spring. My garden needs a lot of work. The contractors had to drive all over the yard to get the tree off the house. I may have lost a rose bush and some bulbs in the process. Dad and I need to do a lot of clean-up in the yard, but I need warmer temperatures first.

A temperate morning here (upper 40s before dawn) with predicted highs in the low 60s this afternoon. Not that I'll be outside: today I go to a matinee of Anything Goes at the Golden Gate Theater with two of my oldest friends. This national tour of the latest Broadway revival of one of my favorite musical comedies is in town until tomorrow and we've got tix. :-)

good morning Purple People! (2.00 / 18)
23 now and cloudy. Overnight snowfall 1 to 3 inches across northeast Illinois and the Chicago area - next system snow already headed this way. Accumulating snow falling across the Chicago area-roads snow covered. More moderate brand of chill replaces Friday's bitter arctic temps/wind chills as snow ebbs.

yeah, it's cold and white outside and as hard as it's been walking woozles in this weather this week, i welcome the NORMAL. maybe, hopefully the cold will delay another accelerated spring like we had last year.

i'm getting my belated birthday present today- a 1 1/2 hour, in home Thai Massage. therapist is setting up shop in another apartment for the day and has 4 of us lined up, including my wife.

Morning, all - (2.00 / 17)
Lazy Saturday morning for me. This is my Saturday off, so I slept in. Now have breakfast and first cup of coffee in me, so I'm slowly waking up.

Today's agenda: shopping and browsing. Doing the required grocery shopping for the week, and also pricing electrical supplies for the workshop. I'll start doing the electrical on President's Day weekend (providing it doesn't snow and I have to work). That's a three day weekend for me. Once workshop is built and has electricity, I'll finally go get my Christmas present from my in-laws - a table saw.

I need to add some sort of workshop/gardening storage structure but must think carefully about where to put it and how to get the most out of a small structure.

Morning Weekend Moose Patrol (2.00 / 14)
Should be aa beautiful day here in North Texas with it scaring a 70* high.

Really happy that the Internet Explorer problem was defeated and hope that folks come back soon from the Microsoft imposed exile.

Enjoy the weekend all.

Please enjoy some of that 70 degree weather (2.00 / 14)
for me. I'm not sure I'll remember how to act in sunshine.

morning (2.00 / 15)
re: John Allen

I have this dim memory of seeing an article written by him on ABL's site a few years back. Am I imagining this, or was it another person?

Good morning all! (2.00 / 16)
The Shire was a bit chilly this AM at 12 an, but we have warmed up to a balmy 17 in the sun.

The plan is to head off to Les Mis this afternoon. Not because I have some great desire to see what really is not a great musical, but I do want to hear the songs sung with out a loop track which really was quite a feat for a movie musical.

I leave with this:

I'm looking forward to seeing it too. Please bring us back and report..... and some popcorn.
That video is a crackup

The songs (2.00 / 12)
Seeing/hearing them sung "live" in real-time is the main reason I want to see that movie. I did enjoy the stage musical, but can't say it's one of my favorites.

It's not a bad movie (2.00 / 7)
There is nothing subtle about anything in the show and that makes it difficult to translate to close-ups. Eddie Redmayne (Marius) does the best at creating an intimate moment with Empty Chairs.

Russell Crowe, however, is just painful to watch.

Northern Japan just had a 6.9 earthquake. (2.00 / 16)
No tsunami warning has been issued.

Ugh, not good (2.00 / 13)
looks like it hit in a sparsley populated area though?

Those guys need to quit having earthquakes, they should pass some laws or something.

What a dilemma. The Moose is back and I'm too sleepy to talk. Have a great day, everyone!

Sleepy time has arrived for me. (2.00 / 11)
Please feel free to hang out for as long as you wish. Hopefully there will be a bit of napping room left for me.

G'Morning Meeses 45 degrees on its way to 65 and sunny, (2.00 / 9)
or so my weather widget promises.  Socked in with fog at the moment.

I'm trying desperately to avoid the temptation of buying waaaaay too many bare root fruit trees.  At the moment anything more than one would be too many, but...

but...

I want them all!  What to do?

No choice ... buy them all. (2.00 / 6)

G'day Mooses! (2.00 / 7)
right at freezing in Dandridge, TN.

Caption as released by the White House: "President Barack Obama shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David, Md., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)"

In response to skepticism of President Obama's statement that, "Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," the White House has released a photo of the president firing a shotgun.  Former top Obama campaign aide David Plouffe linked to the photo in a tweet that read: "Attn skeet birthers. Make our day - let the photoshop conspiracies begin!"

Start the conspiracy theor..., wow, that was quick

Yep I notice that too. He's not in the correct firing stance and he can't be looking down the sights from that angle. You can tell he's trying to stay as far away from the gun as he can. This is our "commander in chief"..afraid of a gun. And from the smoke I would say he fired a blank. That's why it doesn't matter where it's pointed. Staged photo...through and through.

So *this* didn't take long. (2.00 / 9)
Senate Minority Mitch McConnell and over 40 of his members are vowing to block confirmation of a permanent Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director unless Democrats agree to pass legislation dramatically weakening the agency.

McConnell's renewed filibuster threat seem to have caught [Harry Reid] by surprise somehow.

Emphasis mine. Disgust that Harry Reid would be surprised, all mine.

and so it begins... again. (2.00 / 3)

Sneezing my head off. I have the cold from H E Double Toothpicks as my late Mom would say. Been mainly working on space art for my diary for tomorrow. This one however goes in a different part of my art repertoire. I call it Neptune's Palace.
