'Mornin' herd. Hope you had a lovely weekend. Ours was marvelously non-productive and partly snowy. I am priding myself on not actually knowing who won the Superbowl. Sooner or later I'll have to look at the news, but it's too early for that.

27 degrees in the Shenandoah Valley (2.00 / 33)
Headed for a high of 36 with a little snow along the way.

Good morning Meese. Hope you had a lovely weekend and have awakened on Monday Morning bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and rarin' to go. On the other hand, possibly not.

Good morning, iriti! (2.00 / 29)
The winner, according to Twitter, was the power outage. It was trending most of the night.

#SuperDomeDe-Light?

Karl Rove sent Megyn Kelly down the hall to confirm whether the power at the #SuperBowl is really out. "My people say it's on."

The season started talking about the officiating and the season ended talking about officiating.

13 degrees in  Madison WI. Expected high of 17 degrees and light snow.

Hi Moozoog! (2.00 / 32)
Exciting news from UK this morning - the human remains found under a parking lot in Leicester have been confirmed to be those of Richard III, the last English king to die in battle.

Historically, it's a very significant discovery, and ends a 500-year-old mystery.

It's him!

Superbowl? :::yawn::: King Richard rules! :P

Amazing what's been found under car parks in England. Sometime (2.00 / 18)
in the 1970s land was being cleared in the center of York (my favorite city in the UK) when the remains of a Viking settlement were discovered.  Screeching halt to everything.  Years on the site is still being studied and is open to the public (Jorvik Viking Center).  At the time I was there 30 years ago, you rode through the settlement in little cars amid displays of daily life, complete with smells.

I love York too, pittiepat! And greatly enjoyed the Jarvik Center, (2.00 / 15)
with the smells and the real-life, um, noises.  Read in a history book that the Anglo-Saxons in York got into a jealous snit because of the Vikings.  The Vikings took a bath (sauna) every Saturday night and combed their hair--therefore, they got all the girls.

I fell in love with York the moment I saw it. It was a glorious (2.00 / 9)
Saturday and the sight of all the fabulous stained glass in the Minster almost knocked me to my knees.  My sister came with me on a brief trip in 1997 and she desperately wanted to visit Canterbury Cathedral. It's wonderful for its history but I found it to be rather foreboding and cold.  Unlike York Minster which is so warm and inviting.  But on the day we visited, it was cold, rainy and there was a wedding going on so sis came away with a negative feeling about York.

A Moose Needs Love Today (2.00 / 32)
Hi folks,

A long-time Moose, BTchakir (Bill Tchakirides) has had a brain tumor removed and is recovering.

I would like to see how many of the herd can leave a note of love and support on his beloved Under the Lobsterscope  blog (also found under the Moose With Blogs on the right bar under his Moose name). His family is watching it for him at the moment and I am certain that it would give him and them some warmth knowing there are others out there thinking about him.

Please, take a moment to love bomb Bill.

Spread the word if you can.

The headline on TPM: "LaPierre: They're Coming For Our Guns No Matter What They Say" (2.00 / 24)
I clicked on it and it returned a 404 error which means: nothing there, broken link. I think the broken link is between Wayne LaPierre's brain and reality.

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

In the reality based community, pulling stuff straight out of your ass, as LaPierre has done, is frowned upon.

[ Parent ]
if it happens that there is a brain (2.00 / 15)
somewhere in wayne's vicinity, i want to do a thorough autopsy on it.  i'll venture to guess it's riddled with holes, probably from prion disease obtained from cannibalizing people he's shot.

Does the morgue wagon come with the job?

[ Parent ]
bet you've seen that too (2.00 / 14)
seriously, I think prion wasting diseases are more prevalent than people think. Remember how hard people fought the idea you could get it from factory farmed meat? I've sworn off venison unless I know both the hunter and where it was taken. We have small deer out here, hard to find and oh so delicious for not having acorns to feed on. And so far we don't have any evidence of wasting disease but it's just a matter of time I think.

here, no one gets their panties in a wad over mistakes. Here's the deal though, until the state of Texas sees fit to stop importation of game animals we're at risk. So now ranchers are having to add game fencing to protect their cattle and I think that's just wrong. It was one thing when rich fucks fenced in their own game to stage canned hunts but now they've been allowed to import wild animals that aren't tested and everyone else has to pay to protect themselves from this irresponsibility.

Hi. (2.00 / 13)
A grey Monday morning out here by the coast, but they're saying it will clear up this afternoon. Pretty chilly but not unbearable. We should reach the upper 50s today.

Last night I relented and watched the last ten minutes of the game. Not a football fan, but it was an exciting, if disappointing, finish.

Start your week with a truly fabulous day!

There are, in every age, new errors to be rectified, and new prejudices to be opposed. ~Samuel Johnson (1709-1784)

The ending was very dramatic. (2.00 / 15)
Questionable calls, last gasps, a near-historic comeback, arcane rules being consulted ... that last 11 seconds took about 20 minutes.

I love the arcane rules part of it: deciding to give your opponent points, any kind of points regardless of intent, is always fraught with danger.

By the way, I would not want to be Jim Harbaugh's cardiologist. That guy went from uncontrollable anger to overwhelming delight at least a dozen times during that game. I think it was a good thing that the winning coach was his brother because any other person would have been scared to shake hands with him at midfield.

Are you rested for your Birthday Week? A spirit as large as yours should not have just a single day of celebration!

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

LOL (2.00 / 14)
When I first read your subject line, I thought you were referring to Downton Abbey (the real highlight of MY Sunday). Another great episode last night, and oh, that O'Brien is one nasty piece of work, isn't she?

As for the Big Game, that nail-biting finish did excite me more than I'd have expected. But then hometown pride was involved. Oh well. We still have Giants Pride.

My Birthday Week continues apace, but I am sad to report that on the actual day I'll be spending the entire morning in a pre-op surgery class at the hospital, instead of lolling about trading quips with my online friends. The class starts at 9AM so I'll have to be out of the house by 8. Not a thrilling prospect, but I'm trying to maintain a sense of perspective. ;-)

O'Brien's nastiness is my perpetual complaint. Why nasty? (2.00 / 8)
We never understand the reason for her fundamental total nastiness, as opposed to her motivations for individual plotting on behalf of her protogee [Tom, Nephew] of the moment.

Did not see the episode, so don't know what her most recent piece of work was/is.

I won't give it away, in case you watch later. (2.00 / 10)
But she's definitely up to something no-good. For awhile I thought she might have mellowed a bit after her horrible behavior in the first season, but she's back to her old tricks. It remains to be seen whether she'll end up having more moments of regret or not, but I do like her as a villainess. :-)

I googled the cast and saw O'Brien's real-life picture. Boy, they (2.00 / 10)
do some good makeup on that show because the actress who plays her is a good looking woman.  If life would be fair (in Downton), she and that sneaky valet would get what they deserve.  So I hope...  At least there was a bit of good news in last night's episode.

24 degrees and sunny in windy Wyoming (2.00 / 14)
Hey all,

My sweetie and I got out of Wyoming for a day and spent it in Fort Collins CO, where you could hear political discourse and it didn't consist of the gubmint is ebil.

It was nice to have more than 2 radio stations to listen as well.

My dogs and step kiddo were very happy to be home though. I spent a day not watching or caring about the news, it was just time to connect with my honey.

Those lbrl college towns do that sort of thing ;-) (2.00 / 9)

Hello from a newb here! (2.00 / 15)
Wow, the purple meeses? are early risers!

It has been a couple weeks since I joined and I have been lurking, reading and checking things out and I very much like it! Found you due to a post by a fellow purple person on FB.

It appears you have a check-in diary daily. So, five degrees here (central WI) with a promised high of 12 today with snow tomorrow and possibly Wednesday.

Didn't watch the Super Bowl. DID watch Downton Abbey!!

Hey! How central, Velocity? (2.00 / 11)
I am in Madison WI and it is 16 degrees. So you must be Up North. Wausau? Stevens Point?

The Downton Abbey folks hang out with the cool kids in the F Bomb. ;)
