Remember to let your peeps know where you are!

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely.

I'm introducing a new feature this week, the Motley Monday shot of the week. Right now I'll be throwing in some high favorites from my archives, but once the weather warms I'll post my week's best shot. Please feel free to join in if you're a shutterbug.

The Welcoming Committee

iriti :: Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings
The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day - the conversation continues.

It's traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what's new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other... or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

And now, on with the show...

Headed for 46.

Good morning. No weather jar picture today. Posting from my iPhone 'cause I can't lift my laptop (big old thing and me with a wounded wing).

In the last two weeks' polls nobody dared fail the kittehs, but no one even meh'd the pups. Advantage canines.

I think they know it in their pootie-lovin' hearts. (2.00 / 10)
That's why they tend to be so, er, militant. It's compensation. ;-p

Morning (2.00 / 15)
Love moon shots, but haven't taken any really good ones.

Probably going to go get an MRI this week if the shoulder isn't better by my Wednesday follow-up. Nurse Kelley says I must insist on seeing my own doc instead of the Occupational Health staff. We'll see how that goes.

My laptop is a big, older, heavy 17' Macbook Pro. I don't have anywhere to leave it set up, so it sits on a lap-desk on the floor next to my chair. Picking it up us a flagrant violation of the conditions of my parole.

I am told that I need to do something with exposures and such but it seems like too much work. (2.00 / 12)

Listen to Nurse Kelley. She knows all about shoulders.

No Oscar watching here, either. No weather report... (2.00 / 18)
(still boycotting), but here is something less glamorous, and infinitely more important to watch, to think about, and act on than we usually do:

I can't watch videos with the sound on here at work, but I watched that one without. I'll catch what's important this evening when I can have my daughter lift my laptop into my lap, but meantime watched this on silent...it's really quite beautiful.

Hi, iriti! Sorry about your persistent shoulder ailment :( (2.00 / 14)
I hope you can get it taken care of in short order. And yes, the video is both nice to look at and to listen to, especially keeping last year's drought conditions in large parts of the US in mind.

Please conserve water, everyone! Even if you think there's no imminent problem where you live, act as if there is a problem and use it wisely, i.e. don't keep the faucet open if you aren't using it, etc.

30 degrees and all is quiet and lovely. The storm we are expecting is scheduled to begin tomorrow afternoon. It has gone from 3-7 to 5-9. However much it dumps on us, be assured I will be shoveling every inch of it at work. With a smile on my face, of course.

I heard a rumor that there will be a pootie/woozle diary tonight on the Moose. The whispers said it would only be published on the purple. I wonder what the pootie are up to.

In totally unrelated news......

Morning all from Columbia. Nice start to our day then the weather (2.00 / 18)
wheels fall off.  If we get the 6-10 inches of snow now being forecast I won't get out of the house until the spring thaw, whenever that will be.  Most of the residential streets are still icy with freezing rain coming first, then the snow.  It took me a couple of hours over two days to get the car cleared and I'm going to have to work up to doing it again.

i'm having coding problems imbedding a Youtube video. i get a disallowed HTML message. Disallowed HTML tag: < iframe which begins the coding. then when i remove that tag, it says to remove the closing tag and of course then all that will print is the coding. :-[

anyone have any suggestions?

Morning (2.00 / 13)
Sunny near 40 today
Snow tomorrow.  Going to get my two year old son a haircut today.  This is not a fun outing.  This is an outing filled with bribery and screaming.  Then off to the library for the morning.  Have a great day.

it's snowing here (2.00 / 12)
and we're predicted to see steady wind at 35-40 mph with gusts up to 60. The snow is swirling around and unlikely to stick but the moisture is appreciated. It's looking like a good day to finish some inside projects. Or even start a new one.

There's nothing like eavesdropping to show you that the world outside your head is different from the world inside your head.--Thornton Wilder

snow? (2.00 / 11)
it was 70 here yesterday and they are calling for the probablility of that stuff tonight here too.

[ Parent ]
we hit 75 (2.00 / 11)
yesterday and woke up this morning to snow! The big news is the wind though, the weather guy was predicting gusts up to 60 mph which by any definition is a howling wind storm. I've an idea for this year's easter bonnets and it looks like I'll have time today to experiment. The best part of retirement is having time to indulge myself with whatever I'm thinking up.

Up at 6:00, a bit early but it could be worse.

San Francisco weather:

44°F
Current: Cloudy
Wind: N at 0 mph
Humidity: 85%

Predicted highs in the low-to-mid 60s today.

A busy day ahead what with packing and lots of last-minute stuff to attend to. Make sure the plants are watered. Give neighbor the mailbox key. Stuff like that.

Don't forget to pack your community quilt!! (2.00 / 11)
I was telling someone just this morning that the quilt will be essential to your healing because it will be like a little bit of all of us ... right there with you.

It will be wonderful to hear you complaining about the rehab instead of reporting about your pain. Because at the end of rehab is complete recovery.

[ Parent ]
Oh, thanks! (2.00 / 12)
I have the perfect thing to protect the quilt: a clear plastic zippered thingy that held the new mattress pad I bought awhile back. It fits the folded quilt EXACTLY and will keep it clean while in transit.

My intention is to complain not at all as little as possible, but as you can see I already know that I can't manage to be quite that noble. So I guess I should ask in advance for everyone's kind indulgence over the weeks ahead. And I can only hope that a little kvetching about the rigors of PT will sound slightly less tiresome than wailing about this constant pain. :-)

There will be some who will tell you that their messages are always bad news. (2.00 / 9)
I don't believe that about them. In my mind, a message is neither good or bad ... it is simply information to be processed. We can choose to see something wonderful and magical in even a scary sounding message. Or something sad and gloomy in a happy sounding message. It depends on what you want to hear and what you are open to.

Words have meaning. Our words will reflect what is in our souls.

[ Parent ]
I don't believe that either. (2.00 / 10)
I thought of Ojibwa because a few years back there was a fascinating conversation at Street Prophets about animal guides and totems, and he had so much wisdom/lore to share with us all. I just can't remember if ravens were discussed. Maybe I'll pester him today about it. :-)

Oh, and I'm a firm believer that we do naturally tend to see what we're predisposed to see, unless we train ourselves otherwise.

Home, finally. (2.00 / 12)
Almost home last night, made it as far as DC before my final light was cancelled, spent the night in Our Nation's Capital. Nearly 48 hours from the time I entered Doha International one end to another.

John Askren - "Never get into a pissing match with a skunk."

You didn't have good success this trip (2.00 / 10)
at least transportationally speaking. How did the rest of the trip go?

Barack Obama 1/21/2013

[ Parent ]
The trip itself went well, it was just the trip that was a pain. (2.00 / 5)
I am more than usually crisp-burnt after that transportation saga. There was such a litany of micro-hells buried in the process that it is tiring to even try to relate (leaving late from Frankfurt due to snow and de-icing and worrying about missing the DC connection, followed by the connection being delayed [yay, made it!] then cancelled [crap!]).

However the purposes of the trip were a succes. The conference was a winner (here, looking catatonic, which is normal for me):

And also had the initial board meeting for NorthWind Technologies, a joint venture with some Qatari and Saudi partners. There should be offices open in Doha in April so a year of planning can begin turning into work, becoming a business instead of a hobby while making the world a slightly safer place to be.

In-stream of all of this of course is the Executive Order on Cybersecurity, PPD-21 and the NIST Framework falling out of those and any number of other granular details to make this whole period extremely demanding.

So I was standing at the kitchen sink... (2.00 / 7)
...hand washing laundry and getting both bored AND sore, and I finally said SCREW THIS, took two or three pain pills, and when they kicked in I dragged my laundry down the street. It was difficult but do-able, and now it will all be washed, dried and folded before 3PM. Wish I'd thought to do this a few days ago, but I've tried to be careful about overdoing the opiates.

And I've heard from a friend, my former downstairs neighbor, who's agreed to check my mailbox every few days (he now lives just four blocks away). So he's stopping by later for the mailbox key.

Cellphone, tablet and Kindle are all charging. I've watered the plants and I think everything else is done that I can do, except I need to take a shower with special antiseptic lotion once I'm done with laundry (they've told me not to shower tomorrow morning, or shave).

you're doing so well (2.00 / 7)
in your preparations, just keep reminding yourself it wouldn't be normal if you weren't worried. Have you heard from the hospital about re-scheduling yet or will you be on the good one that was most recent?  I would appreciate a civilized check in myself because I am so not a morning person.

No phone call today, so knock on wood! (2.00 / 7)
Ten o'clock is an entirely civilized hour to check in, don't you think? I wouldn't have minded earlier within reason, like 8AM or even 7AM. But 5:30AM was just barbaric, LOL!

p.s. Hanging out online today in between chores has really helped distract me from getting too nervous. So I'm glad there have been peeps like you around to whom I can blather. :-)

oh good (2.00 / 5)
I'm trapped inside with howling cold winds out and you're a captive audience. I started working on this year's easter bonnets. I make miniature ones with hatboxes and send them to my girlfriends. Last year was picture hats made from rice paper and fabric covered hatboxes. This year I've some buckram so I'm thinking sheer fabric over buckram frames in a nice Jackie O pillbox shape. Perhaps a fabric covered picture one for my traditionalist friend. The rest of them will love the 1960s reference. And paper on the hatboxes, they're as much fun as the hats to make. I'm thinking of naming my hat emporium this year and doing some self-promotion amongst friends.

I had a friend... (2.00 / 7)
...who used to host a big Easter brunch (almost all gay men), with a contest for the most outrageous Easter bonnet. It was hilarious fun!

Your little hats sound like fun, too! :-)

Tomorrow? (2.00 / 6)
It will be good to get behind you. The healing may be painful but at least it leads in a positive direction.

We'll keeping a purple light burning for you. Relax, don't worry and enjoy the hospital pampering if you are able.

Thanks, Chris. (2.00 / 4)
I know it won't be entirely a picnic, but I'm hoping to revel in the lap of hospital luxury while I'm there. It's always nice to be waited on! ;-)
