Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Head hurts a little from having 2 patches taken off my forehead yesterday at the dermatologist. And she took a sample from the thing on my leg that was bleeding last week. She’ll call when the lab results come in. And now I have a big annoying floater in my eye. It just never ends. Austin’s soccer team is in the finals for a national trophy, people are quite excited. Got to get ready for work.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 70 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The monsoon is officially over because of course “calendars” control the weather. :::insert eye roll here::: In any event, it looks like nice days ahead for the short term. I can take naps on my porch again!

    The Racist Enabling Indiana Fever was ousted from the WNBA postseason tournament and the champion will either be the Phoenix Mercury or the Las Vegas Aces. The Aces showed quite a few exploitable flaws, almost losing to the Fever after they had lost arguably their best player, Kelsey Mitchell and their second best player, Aliya Boston, fouled out. That said, the Mercury does not do well against the Aces, only winning once when A’ja Wilson was out with a concussion. The good news is that the government shutdown likely disrupting air travel will not impact the Championship Series because the teams could take busses to each other’s cities. :)

    I did not get done what I needed to yesterday so my “rest of the week off” plan will have to wait a day.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 58 heading for 84 and sunny at the moment. We wrapped up September with 325.42 – not great but better than a couple of other years prior to having a 2-story house next door place to do as much shading of my panels as possible and not be on my property. The best October ever was last year with 334.87 – I guess the goddesses knew what was coming and gave me a farewell gift or something. I’d been thinking it was to make up for 2023 which was the worst October with the 4K system at 209. Maybe both. 2015 was the only other year we got over 300. The rest have fallen between 235 and 275 so my target is 250. Considering. We shall see what the month brings.

    I’ve gotten a glimpse of the moon between the tree branches to the south from my bedroom window the last 3 nights running. That is indeed a gift. Which is needed.

    Praying that shutdown or not, Social Security Administration keeps sending out Disability and retirement on schedule. I will be OK even for a few months without mine but I know way too many people would not be. And if there was ever any needed evidence that the Stock Market is being manipulated by “Wall Street” the fact that it’s been going up this entire year and only dropped 200 points with the shutdown. I guess we’ll see how long they can manipulate the Market and keep it from going into freefall – if the govt stays shut down.

    I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good morning, 61 and cloudy in Bellingham today. We finally replaced the freezer so I need to clear a path for delivery and removal of the old one tomorrow. We joke that Ron has “the freezer gene” so he will be relieved. I’m going to try to keep my mind occupied with some time in the garden this afternoon. Best wishes to all.

  7. Good morning. Got in a short walk, foot isn’t complaining. Went back & forth about changing my wth days yesterday, looks like I can keep the same. Whew.

  8. It’s 59 heading for 86 today and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 10.5 KWHs, on track and getting the month off to a good start.

    Otherwise October is not off to a good start. We’ll find out about Social Security tomorrow when the folks on SSDI either do or don’t get paid. After the big show of protecting the flotilla, Italy and Spain backed down and Israel is taking the boats, people, and supplies. Hostage? I guess we should be happy they aren’t sinking them. Yet. Every evil step they’ve taken has gotten protests from people and “tut-tut” at best from the govts who could stop them. So of course they take the next step into evil. And the Stock Market is going up. During a shutdown. Can you say “market manipulation?” I knew you could.

    Ordinary folks are freaked and hanging onto their money. Which is making it that much harder for folks in need to crowd fund for the rent that’s now due. And food. And meds. And TP for heavens sake. But I’ll keep boosting anyway. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 68 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I saw the moon last night over the mountains – she was at about 70% illumination. In a couple of days, I will catch her setting to the SW from my office window in the morning.

    Not much to say – we are in government shutdown mode again. MAGAtism is the Tea Party on steroids. The stage was set in 2010 after the ACA passed and we had unified Democratic government under a Black president; the billionaire class vowed to never allow that to happen again and now we essentially have no government and no plan to govern. Bastids.

    I am still trying to get my “one last September thing” done and other little projects keep getting in the way. I will try now.

    See all y’all later!

    • I was unfortunately up to see the moon as she reached the point of being able to shine into my bedroom. So I opened the curtains and was blessed with what I’d thought I’d lost when that house next door reached its upper story (it’s still in construction but no more height). Namely moonlight moving across my bed & bedroom the several days before and after full. Govt shutdowns can’t stop the moon.

  10. Good morning, 60 and cloudy in Bellingham today. The freezer will be delivered today so Ron has moved things in the basement, Sue will be here this morning so laundry is underway, and Bri will be here this afternoon to add some mossy logs and ferns to the planting area under the hemlock tree. Prunning the overhanging trees has allowed more light so if we can create pockets of better soil the plants may grow. If not it will become a clear cut!
    It’s becoming increasingly clear to me that I need to sort out what I can safely do in the garden, but I’ll just do what I can today. As always, my best wishes to all.
