Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 9th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  3. Good morning, all. It was in the upper 80s yesterday, 50s today. Tea is steeping, all I have to do for cooking this week is that stuff out. My church is celebrating 14 years of being a Reconciling congregation today (the thing in the Methodist church where we officially say GLBTQ people are welcome) and that should be fun.

  4. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s windy and chilly, with mixed clouds and sun this morning in Ashburn. The icky weather they predicted was much less than prophesied, of course. Man, I wish I could get paid for getting things wrong all the time.

    Well, I’m behind on all my chores. I did cook a proper breakfast for Dearly. In a few minutes I’ll get my act together and go to the gym. I really want to be slim and fit for this play.

    Yesterday I went to the “Mason Cabaret,” at the theater next door and it was fabulous! There were 22 young singers from George Mason University, singing and dancing for all they were worth. They were also good at acting: when they sang songs from “Evita” they looked so grief-stricken I almost started crying myself. Then the song from “Phantom of the Opera” was extremely romantic. All in all, it’s no surprise that it was a sold-out performance. As I went down the reception line afterwards, I congratulated them all and told them it was lovely to see their bright young faces.

    I really need to get a move on. I unfortunately acceded to an invitation to have dinner with a couple of people we know, so we’ll have to meet at at 4, an hour after the game starts. Oh, well, we all know who will win, right?

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  5. It’s 36 heading for 45 and while I can see a few patches of blue to the north & west, mostly it’s cloudy. Yesterday we generated 2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 47 is most certainly not on track.

    Sinusitis flare and didn’t get to sleep until around 2:30 am. But I saw the moon out my bedroom window when I turned off the light the last time. And had a nice moonbeam across the foot of my bed when I did go to sleep. Anyway, the vacuuming is done for another week. I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  6. Good morning, 26 and mostly sunny. I’m feeling well enough to be restless, yay! But I know I need to be careful so all I have planned for today is some baking. Ron’s birthday is tomorrow and our sons are cooking an easy family dinner so my part is dessert. I’ll make an apple tart and german chocolate cake but bake them as cupcakes. That was we’ll have dessert for tomorrow and Ron will have snacks in the freezer to enjoy whenever he wants to. So I’ll turn the music on, the news off, ignore the super bowl and try to have an easy fun day. Best wishes to all.

  7. Happy Monday. In the office, had a terrible night’s sleep, thought that even 30 more minutes might help so I didn’t walk this morning. Tfg still tfg-ing. Gulf of America (how do you make an eyeroll thing on a keyboard?). Church yesterday was great — we celebrated welcoming everyone, children’s time had My Shadow is Purple read by a magnificent drag queen, the choir was awesome, just all-around a good day.

    • I was glad to see that the dumpster’s latest proclamation was cancelling pennies. Maybe he is done – that one seemed like an “oh by the way.” I guess he does not need the proclamations now, he has most of his cabinet in place and Russell Vought, chief architect of Project 2025, is at OMB and can now silently wreak havoc. I saw the Melon Husk and JD Vance were putting out there that they will defy court orders if they are not to their liking. Here we go!

  8. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 72. It is cloudy right now, there were no stars visible over the mountains this morning, but the sun will be present later. We will be in the 70s for a couple more days then we will have a chance for rain and chillier temperatures into the upper 50s low 60s later in the week.

    I watched the Super Bowl with a plan to turn it off if they showed the orange seeping pustule after every play (the game was on Fox and he is their god). They showed him once during the singings at the beginning. I am sure right-wing heads were exploding through the commercials as they were very diverse and inclusive and seemed to take aim at the ugliness being promoted by MAGAts. I was pleased to see the Eagles win and for Butker, the Chief’s white nationalist kicker, to not have a chance to show off his manly god-blessed leg to his president. I did wonder, when the Eagles coach thanked god and jebus, just how the Holy Trinity decides who to favor in a sporting event? Hmmmm.

    I have many things to do today as I have two pending projects, one with a hard deadline and one that I should get done today to get it off my to-do list. I have to be ready to let building maintenance in for their quarterly maintenance checkup today. My rent did not go up for the next year and I am grateful for that. The last two years had pretty hefty increases.

    See all y’all later!

  9. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Right now it’s 34 F. with tentative sunlight shining on the gray winter woods and the still brown pools left by recent rains. It’s going to cloud over later, so we won’t see Her tonight.

    We’ve got to rush out and do errands as soon as Dearly awakens from his post-breakfast nap. I usually get my hair done on Tuesdays but it’s going to do Something Awful tomorrow, or so they allege. Today I have Drumming at 2:30, a Drama Club Board meeting at 3:30, and rehearsal from 7 to 9 p.m. I’ll be cross-eyed by the time the snow starts tomorrow. Anyway, I’ve sent out a bunch of emails to my writers already today, pointing out that four of them have not yet submitted their assignments. ‘Tis good to be busy if not in a tizzy.

    Hey, what if we call the loathsome duo, “The Melon and the Felon”? Would that work?

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Have been sending vibes of love and healing to the Meeses who aren’t feeling well. Blessed be.

  10. It’s 32 heading for 44 and at the moment it’s sunny. It’s not supposed to stay sunny but we’ll hope anyway. Yesterday it cleared off early enough for us to generate 5.9 KWHs – totally lousy for February but definitely better than what we’ve gotten the previous 5 days. The m-t-d at 52.5 isn’t on track for 180 much less 280. We shall see what we shall see.

    I got better sleep last night but did surface long enough to see a streak of moon light across the foot of my bed. Not awake enough to get up and go to the window to actually see her but comforted in knowing she was there. Still working on staying calm until I know about Social Security. That’ll be on the 19th when it’s supposed to be deposited in my checking account. And knowing this will be a monthly thing, worrying about whether they’ve stolen my income/retirement, I’m already tired. One more we shall see what we shall see. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  11. Monday Meese. Cold here – but no snow today! Yay!
    SMDH

  12. Good morning, 21 and partly cloudy in Bellingham. Cupcakes are baked, but I got alarmingly tired so I won’t do much today. RonK wants to go for a birthday walk in the woods but it’s cold outside so for now he’s staying cozy indoors. So grateful our sons are cooking a birthday dinner tonight. Best wishes to all.

  13. Tuesday Meese. 14 degrees here in Kingston NY. Brrr.

  14. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast. I was able to see the stars this morning in amongst the high clouds over the mountains and the moon glow is on the open space behind our unit. Last night I saw her in the ENE sky – she is at 98% illumination already! She was hidden from me but as Bfitz points out, she is always there.

    I have a busy week and need to get back to it. February is always busy with end of year projects consuming most of January and then February as catch up month. This year is no different although I also have some “winding down” projects this year as I move away from network hardware support which is difficult to do remotely.

    See all y’all later!

  15. Good morning. We are getting some much-needed rain. I set my mint & poinsettias out to get some nice water. Saving exercise for the afternoon. Getting ready for work, glad that Indivisible and others are on the CFPB shutdown.

  16. It’s 34 heading for 37 & back again. Overcast. Yesterday’s sunshine didn’t last long. We generated 3.49 KWHs and the m-t-d at 55.9 is still losing ground.

    Nothing new that I know of. Too many folks in need. Too few folks responding to those needs. But that doesn’t excuse me from trying to get The Word out and find the few who do respond to those needs. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good Tuesday morning, Meese! ‘Tis a gray day, the sky is covered with clouds. Four-letter word is alleged to begin at noon. Or 1 p.m. Or sometime. It’s 35 F. right now, most likely going lower when the snow begins, if it does.

    Exhausted this morning, but this will be an easy day. I had forgotten that drumming took so much energy! At any rate, I loved the whole hour of it yesterday and plan to be there for every other drumming class. Right after that I had a meeting, then I staggered home only to find that Dearly hadn’t ordered carry-out. OK. Scrounged in the fridge, found some leftovers—not too bad, actually—so all was well. Then I had to go to rehearsal. It was FREEZING in the auditorium, and the actors in the two other non-singing roles and I were befuddled bigly by the musical notation. Luckily, we were dismissed early. I ran outside and there was the Snow Moon, looking absolutely gorgeous! She was just two days from the full. Used my SkyView app to see who else was around and it was so interesting! I’ll say this for winter, you can see the moon a lot better than in foggy old summer.

    So, reading essays, typing notes, and all that will occupy my day. We do have tickets to a “Palentine Pop-Up Bar” down the hall, which should be fun. One sees one’s neighbors that one hasn’t seen in a while. Then we’ll go to dinner.

    Wishing everyone at the Pond a good day!

  18. Good morning, 21 and sunny, a nice change from clouds, rain, and snow. I woke up early to see the moon shining in my window so I sent my thoughts to you all and went back to sleep :) Last night was fun with family cooking together, the cupcakes were tasty, the flowers are simple and were fun to make, and Ron is launched into his 83rd year. I’m ok, just tired but pleased I could do something again. I have a long overdue haircut scheduled this afternoon and I think I’ll be ok this time. So time for a shower and perhaps a cupcake for lunch. As always, my best wishes to all.

  19. Good morning. Another rainy one, which is fine, we’re in a severe drought, so I’m not going to complain about rain. Got a lot of work done yesterday, hoping to repeat today. What I didn’t do was log off in time to go to kickboxing, so I’m setting extra reminders.
