Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 66 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday/Mom’s Day Meese. Will have a Mother’s Day music celebration posting at 9AM EDT

Good morning. Nice that the biggest local news is UT commencement. A city this big, it’s nice that not much happened yesterday. Today: church and preparing for next week. I used points from my wellness thing through my health insurance to get an air fryer, going to figure out how it works. For now though, just loving the smell of my tea.
Good Sunday morning, Moosekind, and happy Mothers’ Day to all who celebrate it! We have 62 F. in Ashburn, heading toward 83 F. Wisps of white veiling are moving very slowly across a pale blue sky, and sunlight aboundeth.
Last night, coming out of the movie next door (it was “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), I saw Her for the first time in a week, looking very silvery and quite full. This month she’s called the Flower Moon. I was so happy, because I hadn’t seen her since she was a silver slice last week, and tomorrow—of course—it’s supposed cloud over in the evening.
I’d seen “Crouching” when it first came out 25 years ago, but went again because I enjoy seeing slender young women knock men through the ceiling. Makes such a nice change.
Yesterday was busy from the beginning. After breakfast we made ourselves presentable and went to Lowe’s, where they had a singularly undistinguished collection of plants. I bought English parsley, lavende4r, three varieties of tomatoes, and some marigolds. I hope to plant them this afternoon. There was another resident there who just happened to have a Ph testing implement, so I borrowed and tested the soil. It read 7.0, which is fine for tomatoes. There were gardening gloves and lime inside the shed, so I’ll put some lime into the oil before I plant the tomatoes. I’d like to plant vegetables for Loudoun Hunger Relief, but am not sure what to plant.
I am scrambling to find enough women actors to act in the Reader Theater play I wrote. The one male character said yes, bless his heart. Three women who signed up for Reader Theater agreed to take part, so I just need to find three more. Other tasks to get done today because tomorrow will be so busy: send links about how to write a monologue to my writers, plus a sample monologue of my own; send a request to Madame La Directrice for an interview this coming week; and send an email to the leader of the Astronomy Club, saying I’ll have to defer the interview to late July or August because the spring issue of the newsletter is rather full.
Daughter has been in Austin this weekend, watching Grandson receive his Ph.D. She’s flying back to Massachusetts this morning. She and her hubby will have lived there a year come May 14. She’s really blossomed in that cold climate!
We are going to a brunch around the corner from our apartment at the loathsome hour of 10:30. When that’s over, we’ll come home and fall asleep, no doubt.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a bad day to those who are making people’s lives miserable.
It’s 60 heading for 74. Overcast, maybe but probably not rain this afternoon. Yesterday we generated 18.4 KWHs and the m-d-t at 151.88 gained a little. Which it will obviously lose today.
Happy Mothers Day to all who doing or have done mothering things. (I only caught a glimpse of “Grandmother Moon” but I did wake up twice to being bathed in moonlight as I slept.) I’m expecting my son later today. The plan is that he will bring steaks and cook them for me. Prepare today’s full meal. The extra steaks are for tomorrow and maybe Tuesday, depending what he finds that looks good. Meanwhile, I’ve done my Sunday chores and am running late on the boosting so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Hello, 49 and cloudy in Bellingham. I’ve had a nice morning sharing photos and texts with family. Love how the magic of cell phones can bring us all together. I’ve got a new book to read this afternoon, Strange Bright Blooms, and a dessert to bake so it’s a pleasant easy day. Best
wishes to all.
Monday Meese. Looks like we have a full week of rain ahead of us here in Kingston. Sigh. Another week of not being able to garden.

Good morning. Lovely cool one here, probably the last time I’ll wear long sleeves till October. It’s supposed to start hitting 100 here this week, that’s depressing. Walked & ran for 30 minutes, yay me.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s so beautiful outside that one would never guess clouds will move in, thereby obscuring our view of the moon tonight, and that it will rain all week long. Today’s high will be 77 F. Right now it’s 61 F. in Ashburn.
I’m still scrambling to find actors for my Reader Theater play on Saturday. Most of the turndowns involve people simply being out of town or otherwise occupied. With a Reader Theater play, all they have to do is read lines, not memorize them. Oh, well, if necessary, I’ll have to take one of the roles myself and prevail on our beleaguered president of the Drama Club Board to take the other one.
I should get my hair done this morning because, like Sister Dee upthread, we are expecting an entire week of rain, with heavy rain tomorrow. We shall see.
This afternoon I have Drum Circle at 2:30, Drama Club Board meeting at 3:30, then a concert at 7 p.m.
Got a lot to do this morning, so I’d better get to it. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Am disgusted that the Felon will get a new airplane for his birthday. Talk about flagrant violations!
It’s 68 heading for 75 and sunny at the moment although the widget says clouds will be moving in shortly. Yesterday we generated 11.49 KWHs and the m-t-d at 164.25 lost more ground.
Lovely Mothers Day yesterday. My younger son emailed once and called twice (1st call was interrupted). My older son not only prepared a steak dinner for me (with almost 4x the amount of meat I normally eat at a meal and 2x the amount in side dishes) but he stayed to eat with me although he only ate the sides (not exactly vegetarian but definitely no beef) and cooked the other 2 steaks in the package so I have lovely steak for my protein all this week. Yes, the steaks were that big. LOL.
I don’t know how many times I dreamed I was awake and doing my back exercises before I finally did but it was almost 8:30 by the time I really woke up and did my back exercises. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, meeses! Monday …
It is 91 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Mostly cloudy skies and very windy. We do not like high winds when it is hot and dry as that puts us in a Fire Watch alert. This morning, there were clouds over the mountains and a veil of clouds hiding the moon from my office window. I could see her light but not her form. Fortunately, I was able to see her rising over the mountains last night. The Flower Moon – what a beautiful name.
As you can see, it is already afternoon. I have been working all morning and have to monitor a computer setup so I am not able to sit and veg out yet. Soon, I hope.
See all y’all tomorrow!
Good afternoon, 54 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I had a restless night, so have dozed the morning away but it’s time to find some lunch and decide what to do with the rest of my day. I have a few flowers to plant and a slice of a chocolate chip and cinnamon flavored coffee cake to eat so that’s a good start. Best wishes to all.
We are heading into our 3rd-earliest 100 degree ever; and highs will stay over 100 through the weekend. That’s just….ugh. Anyway, gotta get ready for work.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Mostly cloudy skies this morning, partly cloudy skies this afternoon. High winds are in the forecast. The moonrise last night with her not quite half a day past full was spectacular. I will never fail to be amazed and delighted watching her rise in real time between the mountain peaks. It takes about a minute to completely clear from the first glimpse and the process looks surreal. I will attach a link to a few photos from Sunday night showing it if I have time.
Well, of course the trade “war” with China has been paused. If there is anyone left out there who does not think that the on again off again is simply intended to manipulate stock prices so that the Felon’s pals can make money on the stock market, they are simply fools. Wall Street loves it, Main Street is sick of the uncertainty – they actually buy things from China and sell thing to China and their business model is now “chaos”. I have never, and will never, understand why business owners think that Republicans are better on the economy. Maybe better for them on tax rates and deregulation but they are not better on making the economy work for anyone but the most wealthy. Idiots.
I was pleased to see that the Episcopal Church has denounced the resettling of Afrikaner “refugees” as morally repugnant and have ended their refugee resettlement alliance with the federal government. There are no real refugees being allowed in right now and are unlikely to be under a MAGAt administration so cancelling the program is easy. More people and institutions need to call out the white nationalists and refuse to help them Make America White Again.
I had a busy day yesterday that was about 60% successful but left a few loose ends to clean up today. I have too many scraps of paper on my to-do stack and I am a bit concerned about losing track of something important so I need to take a step back and sort through them all. As an Aries, I am naturally fond of lists but I think I have too many lists (and sorted stacks and calendar entries and sticky notes and pop-up reminders) right now. I need to go back to my List of Threes which are listing the three most important things I need to do today and working on them. In any event, I best get back to it.
See all y’all later!
It’s either 61 or 65 depending on which widget I look at, heading for 84, and sunny. Supposed to be sunny all day. A rarity. Yesterday we generated 19 KWHs and the m-t-d at 181.9 gained a bit. And should gain a bit more by end of day.
I got up in the “wee sma hours” to go to the bathroom, checked through the curtains and saw the moon just edging far enough west to be seen through my bedroom window. So I opened the curtain to allow moonlight to bless me in my sleep. As it did, mostly. I didn’t 8 hours or even 7 but I got well over 6 hours of solid sleep. A change and a blessing.
I’m trying Irish Spring as an ant deterrent. Suzanne/Aashirs nani told me no other soap she’s tried works but if I’d rub Irish Spring on the foundation and around the door and window frames the ants would at least stay out of my house. Actually I’m starting with rubbing it under the vent covers where the ducts come into the house because I’m pretty sure that’s how some of them are getting inside. At least the smell of Irish Spring doesn’t make me sick. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! ‘Tis raining. Of course, it began 10 hours later than predicted yesterday, but Dearly Beloved, who often wakes up during the night, attested that it was raining either steadily or softly through the night. As we have a rainfall deficit of 5 inches, I’ll be pleased if a whole week of rain makes a dent.
My super-busy week is turning out not to be so busy after all. Yesterday I felt weird on and off. My eyes didn’t seem to work properly in the morning but after I rested, I felt well enough to drive to the barbershop. I intended to go to Drum Circle, but started feeling weird again, so I just rested. However, I went to the Board meeting, which turned out to be quite spirited and lasted longer than it was supposed to. We barely had time for dinner before it was time for the concert.
The concert singers are Home residents who pay $200 per “semester” to practice songs for 90 minutes every week and give two concerts a year. They did a very good job although to me, they really fell down on “Both Sides Now.” Never mind, the rest was good.
The Actors’ Workshop has been cancelled so it seems I have today and Thursday free. Madame La Directrice has come down with bronchitis, so I may or may not get to interview her Friday afternoon. I need to prepare interview questions.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 54 and mostly cloudy in Bellingham today. RonK has been sanding and oiling the teak patio tables and chairs. We could just let the wood age to gray but we have so much rain he does this every year or so to the oil protects the wood from moisture damage. This year we need to add some plastic glides to the legs so they won’t be in direct contact with the damp pavers. I have a few flowers left to plant but I think I’ll work in my sewing room this afternoon. Best wishes to all.
Jan – Denise DM’d me at Bluesky & asked me to tell you/folks here at Moose that she can’t log in.
Thanks! I usually don’t check Bluesky until after lunch which is also when I recheck the Moose. I replied to her and will try some things.
👍👍
I found the problem. It was a default setting in the protection package that we have on the WordPress site that should not have been applied to Dee. I turned it off and we will see if she can get in now. Fingers crossed!
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 63 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The moonrise over the mountains was behind a thin layer of clouds so it was more “moonlight rising over the mountains” than any discernible form. It still feels great to have a visual reminder of her presence.
A Democratic Mayor was elected in Omaha, the Blue Dot in Nebraska. The incumbent Republican Mayor who had been running a positive campaign sensed defeat and opened up the sadly successful tRump campaign playbook and switched to anti-trans animus for the stretch run. That tactic – and her – was rejected and Omaha will have its first Black Mayor. This bodes well for the pickup of the Omaha area Congressional seat next year, a seat now filled by a “moderate” Republican. Moderate Republicans still vote for Pastor Mike Johnson for Speaker and will always put party over country when push comes to shove so a Democrat would be preferable.
I have a million things to do this morning as I am going to take most of the day off to enjoy the beautiful weather.
See all y’all later!
