Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 63 heading for 70 and trying to be sunny. Trying. Yesterday it didn’t rain much but it stayed cloudy most of the day. We generated 5.64 KWHs and the m-t-d is at 382.55 with 4 production days left in May.
I truly tried not to have a fire yesterday but it never did warm up – a little warmer than Monday but not enough. Finally around 5 I lit one. The cats approved. A few minutes after I lit it my son showed up with food. It’s strawberry season and just beginning to be blueberry season so he brought me both. Probably won’t have any more blueberries even though the season just started because they’re even more expensive this year than usual. Hail damage has wiped most of the crop. But I’ll have them for a few days then the strawberries. And rotisserie chicken for my protein this week and probably next.
Lawn guys came this morning. The grass was really too wet to mow but they did it anyway. They’re not gardeners, just lawn guys. So the weedeating and such around my iris bed is iffy. Oh well.
Got an email from my friend. She’s finally realized that what her husband is doing is emotional abuse. Mostly because he’s now giving the “or else” routine about getting rid of her cat. I don’t know what she’s going to do. Prayers in that direction would be good.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
She should get rid of him.
Good morning, 64 and sunny in Bellingham today. I have a haircut this morning and time in the garden with Bri this afternoon so I’ll have a busy day. I haven’t been able to do what I had hoped to do lately so with Bri’s youthful energy some needed pruning will get done. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 86 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. It was a pleasant 68 degrees when I got up.
I got some project work done and snuck in a nap. I stayed up waaay too late last night watching a WNBA game that was too dramatic to turn off and walk away from at halftime.
See all y’all later!
Thursday Meese. More rain today and won’t see sun till Monday
Puerto Rico
See the history
“Whenever it rains, several feet of black, contaminated water and trash flood the homes of people living near the Martín Peña Channel. NewsHour’s Ivette Feliciano reports.”
“In the new episode of Writing Latinos, we talk with Jorell Meléndez-Badillo about his most recent book, Puerto Rico: A National History—out next month in paperback from Princeton University Press. Meléndez-Badillo offers a sweeping history of the island since Spanish colonization. Most provocatively, he chronicles a long tradition of thinking about Puerto Rico as an independent nation, even though it has been a territorial possession for the better part of five hundred years. In addition to the book, we talk with him about his collaboration with Bad Bunny on the historical narrative accompanying San Benito’s new album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, which had him frantically writing dozens of history lessons, scrawled by hand, at the end of last year. Not exactly an everyday occurrence for a history professor! Puerto Rico: A National History is Meléndez-Badillo’s third book, following The Lettered Barriada: Workers, Archival Power, and the Politics of Knowledge in Puerto Rico (2021), and Voces libertarias: Los orígenes del anarquismo en Puerto Rico (2015).”
It is beyond infuriating that island critters are being eradicated to make life more comfortable for the tourists. I would say “don’t they understand the science?” but of course they don’t, science does not exist in MAGAt America.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 68 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. We have been having some clouds over the mountains, the ones yesterday evening looked like storm clouds. The are still predicting rain for the weekend, it is now up to 65% probability for Sunday and Monday.
I was glad to see the Melon Husk has decided to “leave” government service. Of course, he does not need to be there in person now that he has planted his demon seed in the critical infrastructure of the government’s payment systems, contract approval systems and human resources systems. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that his Band of Angry IT Incels will be funneling personal information that they now control over to Melon’s computers to be used by him to increase his obscene wealth and power. A court just said that they can’t block the DOGE technicians any longer. Goddess help us.
I have a busy morning with telephone meetings and errands to run so I best get back to finishing my early morning projects.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. We had quite a storm yesterday. I was standing on my porch watching & the wind was so strong it nearly wrenched the door from my hand. Very loud, big hail. It even broke a window or 2 in the Capitol. Anyway, here I am in the office. Did my walk. Normal Thursday.
It’s 66 heading for 74 and overcast. Again. Yesterday we generated 16.8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 398.9 should at least reach 400 today. And we’ve got 2 more days after today to generate.
I’m late and behind and stressed a bit. Because of the clouds, I slept later that I like to anyway but I’d just barely gotten kibble in the cats dishes when my friend called and asked if she could stash her cat here. He hates other cats so it’ll have to be the spare bedroom with the door shut but of course I said yes. The abusive jerk she’s married to waited until she got to work, then texted her that if her cat wasn’t out of the house within an hour he was taking the cat to the shelter. Right now she’s in “protect the cat” mode but I hope to heaven she gets rid of that guy ASAP. She probably won’t throw him out today since he has dental surgery tomorrow. But. . . So I’m waiting for her and the cat to get here. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Thursday morning, Meese. There’s drama in the Drama Club, drama in the extended family in Texas, and I don’t know what all. I’ve several messes to straighten out today.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, it’s 56 F., going up to 72 F. later. Gray, gloomy skies with light rain are predicted. Our rainfall deficit has been reduced to 3 and 3/4 inches, so that’s great. Not much to say today, so will run to Trader Joe’s, then my meeting at 2. Hope to go to the gym again and row and treadmill some more.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Friday Meese. Weather change again here, so no rain today. I’m finishing up working in a week of initiation ceremonies today.
Puerto Rico
Silencing the coquí is not just silencing the sound of an animal, it is silencing Puerto Rico. Silencing its culture and identity.
Good morning. It was raining during my walking time so I walked in the garage. Friday. I just have to remain upright until 5 so I can drive home & watch Bono. Great interview in Esquire — he called what T is doing to PREPFAR, USAid & other good programs “vandalism” and is sickened by the glee trumpistas (my word) show. Reminded me why I like him. Hope all y’all have something to look forward to, also.
It’s 57 heading for 76 and very foggy at the moment but it’s supposed to be sunny once the fog burns off. Yesterday we generated 16.82 KWHs and the m-t-d is 408.5 – not great but at least not in last place. Currently it’s 3rd from last but will move up into the 4th from last today as long as we get at least 4 more. Unfortunately there’s no way we can make it to 462 to get into 5th from last place.
Yesterday was interesting. My friend did bring her cat over. He’s safely in the spare bedroom. She stayed the night here as well and just left for work 45 minutes ago. I live very close to work. We went & got haircuts yesterevening and got takeout Pad Thai. She wasn’t able to reach her friend the paralegal to get a referral and is going to try again today. She’ll be going to the family place for the weekend. Is going to see if she can work from “home” (the family place) for a few days. She needs to get her dog to safety but the cat was the one in most danger so the cat had to be gotten safe first. Step by step. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! Gorgeous today, 63 F. in Ashburn, potential for Big Rain tonight.
Today I need to get my nails done at 11 and attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Just saw on FB that Mrs. Goebbels (Stephen Miller’s wife) has run off with Melon Husk. Can this be true? Daughter-in-law, who works for the fed’rul gummint, now has to take the Metro to her office at Union Station five days a week. She arrives home at 8 p.m. Boy, that’s a bummer! Her son, my precious grandson Karl, is 11 years old today.
About to take a shower with the new sensitive skin soap and use the sensitive skin lotion afterwards. I feel so grungy! Still, I’ll be all right in a few.
Goody, I was able to get the Summer Solstice reservation switched from Friday to Saturday. Solstice occurs so late in the evening on Friday, June 20, there’s no point in trying to have the ritual on the actual day. The Saturday time slot means Betsy will be able to help me, which is great! Now all I need to do is plan the ritual.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 52 and sunny in Bellingham. Appointments for the lab I go to for the coumadin management clinic can only be made on line but the site has not “worked” for 2 days and the walk in waits are long but it’s fixed now. The lab close to me is in Fairhaven and I was able to get an appointment for this morning. Managing coumadin is a pita, but it keeps me safer from more blood clots. I just need to whine occasionally :) Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 86 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The morning star was shrouded in gauzy clouds but that burned off very quickly and my morning walk was a tad too hot. I saw the waxing crescent moon in the WNW sky last night – she appeared to be very small but cute as a button!
I just wrapped up another too busy morning and I am going to go sit and try to find some sporting events to watch – I think the college softball tournament will be on. Last night, the Chicago Sky WNBA team got its first win of the season – and in front of their home crowd – and it was a fun game. No one should be winless, it is too sad. I am not sure if I will watch the Phoenix Mercury tonight; they play the Minnesota Lynx and it will probably be a blowout by the Lynx, they are too good. I was pleased to see that Major League Baseball will be making an investment of resources in the fledgling Women’s Softball league, the AUSL, including joint marketing and broadcasting some of their games on MLB.TV. It is good for young women to have the opportunity to play their sport after college and earn a salary.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.
I was glad to see that the CDC rejected RatFKjr’s “guidance” on COVID-19 vaccinations and sent out a news release telling people to check with their doctors on immunization and to essentially ignore the MAGAt crank. I do feel badly for whoever just lost their job because of that – there are going to be thousands of heroes we will need to thank if we survive the tRump administration’s war on democracy, really, war on the decency. It is terrible having anti-vax people in charge of health care but frightening when you realize that they are also COVID-19 pandemic deniers. Goddess help us.
I have a million things to do this morning to make up for the short work week and a couple of less than productive days.
See all y’all later!
Good Saturday morning, Meese! Am I firsties today? Well, that’s from waking up far too early (5 a.m.) and not being able to go back to sleep. Dearly said it rained during the night, waking him up, and I know that’s true because I can see that the edges of the porch are wet. Right now it’s 60 F., going up to 70 F. later. High winds are supposed to start at 1 p.m.—well, what else is new? Anyway, we’re now just 4 inches under in the rainfall deficit for the YTD.
What a treat I had last night—after the nonexistent tornado, high winds, heavy rain, and shrieks of alarm from the weather warning service on the telly, I saw the quarter moon! No kidding, She moved around right to the side of my porch where I could see Her! That was my first glimpse in weeks!
Back at the ranch, the squeaky pink piggy with sunglasses arrived at the house of the invalid and, according to my daughter-in-law, made his day. The poor dog is still bandaged up. One feels so sorry for animals: they don’t understand much English, but they seem to know when we’re trying to help them.
At the memorial service yesterday, half the Drama Club was present. After I returned from it I told Dearly that at my memorial service, no one will be allowed to speak for more than 10 minutes, the whole thing must last no longer than one hour, and that no mention must be made of my prostrate trouble, COPD, IBS, OCD, or whatever. The guy who was retailing what the deceased died from must have violated HIPAA about 80 times! I was fond of the deceased man: I knew him from the Drama Club, the Unitarians, and from an interview I had with him years ago for the quarterly. He taught the first Black students ever to attend the middle school here in Northern Virginia, where he taught math.
The sun is beginning to come out. I am determined to do three things today: start the monologue about Varina; finish the wretched laundry, which has been languishing in the washer and dryer for days; and go to the gym and row for half an hour.
Betsy says she feels the need for lavender at the summer solstice ritual, and I do have a successful ritual that I’ll update for it. I’m going to send her my recipe for lavender shortbread too. We need the calming influence of lavender in this awful world.
That’s enough from me. The sun is coming out. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Saturday Meese! (still raining)
Posted:
Good morning. I actually slept in, having a relaxing morning. Once the laundry is dry, I’m going to kickboxing. Watched Bono’s thing on Apple TV last night, it was amazing. Hope everyone has a good day.
It’s 61 heading for 81 and sunny. Supposed to stay sunny too. Like it didd yesterday when we generated 21.7 KWHs. The m-t-d is 430.4 – no way we can reach 462 and beat the next “point” for May but we can get to 450 and that’s decent.
My friend only put in enough work yesterday to clear all the end of month things and was home by noon. Very upset. His last threat had been that he was going to leave, move to MI where his daughter lives. So she texted him asking when he was leaving. She got back such a barrage of denial-accusations-gaslighting texts culminating in a statement that he wasn’t going to be forced from his own home again (Apparently his first wife kicked him out.) that she was in shock. After she got some food into her and a short nap, she tried to contact several people for lawyer referrals and ended up leaving messages. Then loaded up Sebastian and his stuff and left for the family place. Abusers never let go easily do they? So what we know so far is that this is going to be expensive and traumatic. I hope to heaven one of her friends got back to her with the name of a good lawyer.
Anyway, I saw the moon last night – the night before too – a lovely silver bowl of Magick for everyone. And now I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 55 and cloudy with rain this afternoon. I stopped at my favorite garden shop yesterday and with Wally’s help I have a more interesting flower planting plan. He’s an old friend and very creative so with his help I’m more inspired. Best wishes to all.
