Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 66 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. More rain today for our second days of ceremony
Forgot to post this here yesterday
Good morning. It is ridiculously hot for May, and we are way behind for rain. I’m worried about “real” summer. For now, I’m on my couch, under the fan, watching the news & eating an almond butter sandwich. My steeping tea smells awesome. That’s good enough for now.
Good morning. Posted:
It’s 64 heating for 72 overcast but I think clearing off after a whole lot of dark and 1.5″ rain. I hope clearing off anyway. It did yesterday just after noon and we generated 14.44 KWHs. The m-t-d at 365.77 is definitely not on track and losing ground. With 7 production days left in May it’s possible to reach the 515 goal – and then some. But it would take a full week of sunny days which we aren’t going to get. Unfortunately 415 is more likely.
The rain kept me not exactly sleeping but certainly not awake until after 8. But I’ve gotten my Sunday chores done and am eating my oatmeal as I head off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, 55 and cloudy in Bellingham today. It’s the annual Ski To Sea Festival so Fairhaven is full of people. Our family used to be more involved with the parades, carnival, race events, etc but now we try to avoid the crowds. RonK has ribs ready for the barbeque, and I’m slowly planting a few flowers. So far my keep it simple plan is working and I’m pleased with the results……nice plantings to tend to but easier to manage. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast. It is still cool enough to get my morning walk in before 8am but pretty soon I will have to modify my work schedule to walk earlier. That means shorter projects, a walk and then longer projects after I get back. My weather widget shows rain in the forecast starting next weekend and I am hoping it means actual rain. It is very dry here. The moon is new later tonight and may not be visible to the naked eye in the ENE sky this morning at .8% illumination. I will look again later, before sunrise, to see if I can spot what will be a thin stripe of light. Yesterday she was so bright I could see the moon shadow!
I have mixed feelings about Memorial Day. I feel sympathy for the families of loved ones who were killed in America’s wars. But so many died in wars or choice started by old men for ego or profit and often sheer stupidity. Every time I hear “served in the War for Iraqi Freedom” I want to scream at my TV. Dick “Dick” Cheney and George W. Bush started that war and the reverberation from it changed the course of history and not in a good way. Americans committed war crimes and were never prosecuted for them and that is a permanent blemish on the nation’s soul.
This weekend I watched sporting events. I saw an exciting and very satisfying win by the New York Liberty over the Indiana Fever. We love Natasha Cloud and were glad to see that she is flourishing in New York and found a way to quiet the crowd of MAGAt racists in Indianapolis. My team, the Phoenix Mercury, lost one and won one. We are down one of our best players and playing with 4 rookies (although some are only “rookies” in the WNBA and played overseas professionally) so to be over .500 is excellent. I got enough done on my weekend projects to be able to spend today organizing my messy desk and doing accounting.
See all y’all later!
I’m a big Natasha Cloud fan – and am elated to have her here playing for the Liberty
She was treated badly by two franchises in a row – first the Mystics, who had drafted her and where she had played for for 9 years, helping them win a championship, telling her in an email while she was on vacation that she would not be re-signed and then the Mercury promising that she would be a key part of the team, asking her to upend her life and move to Phoenix and then after one year trading her to a team that was rebuilding and would not win for years. I was glad to see that the Sun and the Liberty worked out a deal and she ended up in the Northeast and with a team that can and does win.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! A new moon tonight, eh? Haven’t seen Her for so long it feels as if She is a stranger. Wonder whether I can see her tonight. Right now it’s 59 F., going up to 74 F. later. The sky is cloudy but I can already see the gray lifting to reveal the blue beneath.
Despite the fact that the allergens, as listed by the paper, are low right now, I am itching horribly across the stomach. Dr. K. said I should see an allergist, but forgot to give me a referral. I’m also ready to give in and start taking a statin. Yesterday I looked at the alternatives to half-and-half for my coffee, and UGH! No way, so I’ll be popping yet another pill. I’ve been feeling peculiar lately, so Dr. K. prescribed daily B12.
Me, me, me. That’s enough. Elder Son has asked us round to a barbecue at his house at 1 p.m., so that’s where we’ll be heading. It’ll be good to see some of the family again, especially the Birthday Boy.
Cannot wait to finish the article I’m writing. The first draft is due to the interview subject tomorrow. My weight is beginning to creep up, so I MUST resume daily exercise. Decent exercise, not just traipsing around grocery stores. However, the wretched deadlines come before exercise.
That’s enough from me. Hope everyone who is ill will receive healing energy and love. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
I looked for Her Thinness again in the pre-dawn sky but there was too much light to see her. If she stays in the ENE location as she waxes, I will be able to see that later in the week.
Good morning. Slept in and watching Resident Alien, a cute funny science fiction show. Just being super lazy, though I do plan to go to the gym later. Have a good day everyone!
It’s 60 heading for 64 overcast and raining again. Over the last 12 hours we’ve gotten another 2″ and there are flood warning out. Yesterday we generated a whole 5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 371 has lost so much ground that we might not even hit 400 this year, never mind 500.
I’ve having trouble getting to sleep followed by having trouble waking up in this goofy weather. My son didn’t come over yesterday – considering the weather he gave gurdwara a miss and so didn’t go to Sam’s Club either. Since Sam’s is closed today and it’s not supposed to rain tomorrow, he’s planning to Sam’s then for both our households. But I still have to go get milk today. Later. Meanwhile, I need to be about my booting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 55 and cloudy outside my windows today with real rain coming soon. I need to work at my desk this morning, and then I’ll be in the garden later this afternoon. I’ve moved my flower planting stuff to the upper patio where I can work under the canopy so I’ll be dry enough. I am thinking about family today, remembering going with my aunt Mary to sprinkle grass cuttings and rose petals on the grave sites at the small cemetery in Nevada. I always feel far from “home” on Memorial Day. Best wishes to all.
Good morning. We had big loud thunderstorms last night, the water is totally worth the lost sleep. Second story on the news is some book-banning bills that are still alive in the Lege — one group had a read-in yesterday. So that’s the news from Austin. Getting ready for work. Have a great day, y’all!
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday that will feel like a Monday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 93. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. I won’t see the waxing moon this morning as she will rise after the sun comes up – but it feels good to know she is there.
I was laughing at the Republican Senators proclaiming that they will not vote for their leader’s Big Beautiful Kill the Poors bill on the Sunday news shows. I guess that is why they call then news “shows” – they will fold like cheap suits when it is time to vote or do what the two Republican House members who voted against it did: wait until there are enough votes (thanks to the empty seats left by dead Democrats) and then vote against it. There is room for Ron Freaking Johnson and Rand Paul to vote against it and still pass it. The question is if Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins will vote to take away health care from their constituents because of Principles. Ha, as if! If they do and the bill would fail, both Johnson and Paul will vote Yes. Bastids. Goddess help those who will be harmed by lazy people in swing states.
I have a fairly quiet week ahead as the project I have been working on moves off my platter and onto someone else’s. The next phase will likely start on Friday or Monday. I do have to use the lull to get caught up on accounting.
See all y’all later!

LUMA wants another raise?
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s cloudy and 61 F. in Ashburger, with a hint of rain late this evening and LOTS of rain tomorrow morning. Goody! Today: finish the article and send it to the interviewee; call a couple of doctors (that makes me grumpy, hate talking on the phone); start work on the monologue about “V” and on the summer solstice ritual; and…oh, yes, get my hair done.
Last night after the concert I went to Amazon and ordered all the super-sensitive bath soap, body lotion, detergent, and dryer sheets I could find. I also ordered a pink squeaky piggy with sunglasses to cheer up my poor grand-dog, who is barely a year old and already having problems. The only thing I forgot is super-sensitive hand soap (I like the liquid variety that comes with a pump).
It’s already 9:43 a.m. so I’d better get on with my day. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing white light to all who are ill.
It’s 60 heading for 70 and overcast. May or may not get any sun this afternoon after we may or may not get more rain. Yesterday we generated 5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 376.29 is woefully off track.
Got milk yesterday. Had a fire last night. And my son will be here this afternoon with groceries from Sam’s Club and a rotisserie chicken for my dinner. (I’ll reimburse him of course but bless him for doing it.) It’s always nice to visit with him. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 59 and partly cloudy. Thanks to burning leg pain my plans for yesterday went sideways but today is better so I’ll see what I can do. Unsettling article by Josh Marshall at TPM, The Trump White House and The Great Quieting

Wednesday Meese. 56 here in Kingston going up to 71 and it looks like rain (again) for the rest of the week

Good morning. Another rainy day, yay! It’s not gonna end the drought, we’re more than 10 inches behind, but several rainy days is still awesome. I am glad to be wfh today, even as early as I go in, I’d hat to be driving. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day.
Another, that sounds great, with an extra day of rain. Hope it cools y’all down as well.
Good morning, Moosekind! It’s 53 F. and raining. It will rain on and off all day into the evening. It began yesterday at noon as I was coming out of the barbershop (luckily, I had an umbrella of sorts), and hasn’t really stopped since. Surely this will make a dent in the drought!
The managing editor was pleased with my article, and is now waiting for photos so the team can do a layout. I sweartagoddess, by the time the summer issue comes out, summer will be OVER. Can’t think why the photos are late, the photographer showed up and took them before we even began the interview last week.
I texted granddaughter to find out why she will be spending 2 weeks at Duke University this summer, and she replied that she’d be studying poisons and chemicals. I wish I hadn’t immediately thought of someone we’d all like to poison. Dearly wants to watch the stupid tank parade on June 14, which means I’ll have to spend the whole day out of the house. Perhaps I can join some of the demonstrations.
I never made the phone calls yesterday morning because by time I returned from the barbershop and the grocery store, I simply didn’t feel like it. Dearly’s habit of taking a nap after each meal severely constrains my being able to do laundry and make phone calls. One nice thing happened yesterday: one of my friends, who claims she hasn’t opened one of her 35 cookbooks since moving here 9 years ago, gave me a cookbook called “Cooking in the Nude.” I can’t imagine doing any such thing, but she hoped it would give me an idea for a play. I wrote back that I do have a slightly lubricious play in mind for the future, involving a wooden leg, but writing it will have to wait. Have other projects on my plate.
That’s enough from me! Hope everyone at the Pond will have a good day, and may everyone who needs healing white light receive it!
