Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 1st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. It’s 70 heading for 74 outside, overcast and drizzling still. Yesterday the clouds moved in early enough we only got 17.15 KWHs but the m-t-d at 59.97 is still on track. We’ll see what today brings.

    Continuing saga – my friend had the date wrong on the shrink appointment. It’s today. A phone appointment just mostly an intake thing. Still prayers up this counselor works. Then the zoom appointment with her bankruptcy attorney – who might also end up being her divorce attorney, maybe – after that. Yesterday the jerk texted her and voicemailed her a couple of “urgent call me” messages that she didn’t respond to. She was amused that they were all nicey-nicey and ended with “love”. Then he showed up at my door. No, I didn’t let him in. I was masked of course which seemed to throw him off a bit. I stuck my head out the door but had my shoulder firmly behind the door. Not that he couldn’t have pushed his way in, but that would have really messed with his “I’m just a victim trying to help my wife” meme. He gave me some rather garbled message about Natalia’s email possibly being hacked because he got a “message from Flywheel” that her emails were being “diverted”. After he left without saying anything else – and he had to know she was here because her car was in the driveway – I gave her the message. She said that was weird because she doesn’t have a Flywheel account. He does. So we figured an excuse so I’d let him in. Wrong.

    Not baking. At the moment the house is still warmer than it is outside. I’ll need to get something for my midmorning snacks. I can do toast right now as I’ve got GF bread in the house. I did make chocolate pudding this morning. Nice desserts for today and tomorrow. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  2. Good morning, 57 and partly sunny outside my windows today. I think I have done the necessary desk work so I can just be in the garden today. I feel more rested this morning so I’ll see how long my energy lasts. Best wishes to all.

  3. Good (just barely) Morning, Meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 84 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Mostly sunny skies ae in the forecast.

    Quick check-in as I had a morning full of unexpected projects and now I need to get away from my computer. All I can say about the Melon’s reaction to the Felon’s “Big Beautiful Kill The Poors Bill” is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Reminder: pal’ing around with people who have dangerous drug habits is not a great idea.

    See all y’all later!

  5. Good morning. Had a terrible night’s sleep but here I am in the office. Did my walk, bare minimum 30 minutes but that’s better than nothing. Hope everyone has a good day.

  6. It’s 71 heading for 84, overcast, very humid. Yesterday we generated 7.93 KWHs and the m-t-d at 67.83 is losing ground fast.

    Well, 2-1/2 days since the exterminator was here and the ants are back. Sigh. No ant trails. I can’t tell where they are coming in at. Only a few on the counters but dozens in the cats’ kibble dishes. Double sigh. They can’t re-treat for 10 days so I’ve an appointment for him to come back next week on Friday. Meanwhile I get to deal with the ants again. Double sigh.

    My friend’s talk w/ the shrink didn’t get far. This one doesn’t take the University’s insurance. But she did listen to the issues and recommended 3 others shrinks who do. The appointment with the bankruptcy lawyer was productive in that yes, he can do the divorce, he laid out some first step options and gave her the lock-stock-and-barrel price for an uncontested divorce. $1200. She can do that. Step-by-step. Meanwhile the jerkwad is still texting her. Trying to hook her into at least answering if not coming back with comments/information about the dogs’ vet visits. Didn’t work. That he’s doing the vet visits at all answers all her concerns about the dogs.

    Library couldn’t auto-renew my books, somebody must have a hold on them, so I’ll have to take them back today. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  7. Good Thursday moaning, Meese! What are we moaning about today? Well, leaving aside the horrible outside world, not much. We’re having a high of 88 F. today with hazy sunshine. Right now it’s 76 F. in Ashburn. Last night I saw the delightful silvery half-moon in a rapidly dimming blue sky. It reminded me of Half Moon Street in London, which was practically the first place I went after I arrived in 1965.

    Not much happening here at the ranch except that I have to hustle to get washed and brushed, because Josh the IT guy is supposed to stop by at 11. He’s going to install the new black printer cartridge. Once I’ve watched him do it, I should be able to do it myself from henceforth and forever more.

    Not much interesting happening today, although I do hope to (1) get to the gym to row, and (2) drop by the UU Happy Hour at 4 p.m. Hope everyone at the Pond will have a good day! ❤️

  8. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 86 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93 sunny skies are in the forecast. We are starting to get enough morning light that I barely have any dark skies over the mountains when I get up. I need to locate the moon, I have not seen her for a while.

    Only time for a quick check-in – the morning got swallowed up by unexpected issues and setbacks.

    See all y’all later!

  9. Good morning. Didn’t walk, my knee said not to, so I listened to it. Got to remember to work on my music diary for tomorrow. Oh yeah — I’m hosting the Saturday Night Jukebox (6pm central time) so come by if you want. I have one done on athletic endeavors (in my 30s & 40s, June meant triathlons) but I think I’m switching to breakup songs.

    Anyway, happy Friday.

  10. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We’ll be seeing things heating up next week but for now it is Ordinary Late Spring.

    There is not enough popcorn in America for the Melon v Felon feud. It will be interesting to see if the MAGAt congresscritters follow the money (the Melon’s plan to withhold campaign cash from those who voted for the “abomination”) or the voters (the Felon’s endorsement). Given how badly Melon flamed out when he thought his money could tilt the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, I am guessing the endorsement matters more. But we shall see!

    I have so many irons in the fire right now, I am unable to figure out which one to grab first. I need to re-order my priorities and stop taking on more than I can manage. It is an old habit created from years when the billable projects were more scarce – I simply can’t turn down a new project. In any event, I best get back to it.

    See all y’all later!

  12. It’s 66, dark (PV system’s off), raining, and I’m groggy as hell because the weather alert system jerked me awake 30 minutes too early from an already short night’s sleep. Yesterday we generated 15.8 KWHs. The m-t-d at 83.48 lost a little more ground. And is probably going to lose a lot more ground today.

    I turned on the A/C yesterday to make sure is works. It does. Then turned the thermostat to my normal summer 78 – and the A/C came on again almost immediately. I guess A/C season starts early this year. It was still cycling on after midnight. I do have a few windows open right now because the cats love open windows and it is below 70 but I’ll close up fairly soon. The humidity is pretty bad and doesn’t look likely to get any better any time soon.

    My friend finally had to respond to the jerkwad because he was in his “see how much I care for you” mode and talking about mental health counseling (for her of course) and maybe a wellness check. She just told him she was OK and sure, send a report on the dogs after the vet visit. She told me this morning that it’s been a full week and she feels so much better, so much freer. Just a sign of how much weight she was carrying trying to take care of him/please him 24/7. And not taking care of herself. (She fixed dinner last night. It was delicious – marinated pork chops and sweet potatoes “sweetened” with orange juice. I was most appreciative. And was at the table within 5 minutes of it being ready (had to finish a couple of boosting things I was in the middle of writing as I signed off). She said how nice it was to have someone who would show up an hour or so later, say they weren’t hungry, then go out for a large chocolate shake. Yeah, he’s that kind of jerkwad. And he’s diabetic.) So. She’s at work but planning to check out a few more attorneys today before she chooses one, pays out a retainer and filing fees. Step by step.

    I’m very groggy, even with 2 cups of coffee in me, and very slow this morning. Best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}}

  13. Good morning, 57 and mostly sunny. Thanks to Bri and Sue my house is clean and my flowers are planted so I’m enjoying an easy day. It’s high school graduation weekend for both Emma and Ava so the family chat is busy with shared photos…..lots of little kid memories for our grown up girls. Best wishes to all.

  14. Good Friday afternoon, Moosekind! It’s 83 F. here, overcast and muggy.

    We’re getting ready to have a thunderstorm. Have a meeting at 3, so hope it doesn’t drown us out.

    Had to rush off to Costco this morning. The itching, redness, and swelling have now moved down to my feet! I feel like a creature from outer space or something. It’s just too weird for words.

    Hope everyone at the Pond is having a good day!

  15. Good morning. I got the response to my appeal yesterday: I get to keep my 2 wfh days!!!! I’m so happy I could dance. The opening piano crescendo to Sky Full of Stars keeps playing in my head. Weird thing: no one else asked. Not the man whose husband is ill, not the woman with 4 kids….. I can’t fathom why (I honestly thing everyone should have appealed). Anyway, here I am, relaxing & getting ready for a busy day of exercise, groceries & cooking.

  16. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s raining lightly. We were supposed to have thunderstorms with lightning and rain last night, beginning at 8 p.m., but,-nah. My guess is the thunderstorms peered down, decided that Ashburn was too boring to bother with (they’re right), and moved off happily to entertain some other town. Meanwhile, the woods across the way are full, dark green, and deep—mysterious-looking and lovely. The grass is long and thick and emerald green, like English grass.

    This morning we have 71 F., with possible peeks of sunshine this afternoon and a high of 80 F. That’s when I’ll go shopping.

    Lots to do, as usual: need to get a 2026 calendar so I note every second Thursday, write down the dates and times, and send it to the Room Reservation people. We writers love the room we’re in. It has a long table and a round table, plenty of chairs and cushions, and a window overlooking the Great Oak Common.

    I also have to work on the final version of the Summer Solstice ritual with the music. I have a cylindrical THING that, naturally, I have no clue what to do with, but my colleague will know. I plan to use “The Earth, the Water, The Fire, the Air” from Libana, “The Earth is Our Mother” (because I’m going to invoke Gaia), also from Libana, and close with “Gaia, Carry Us Home” from MotherTongue. Betsy will walk around toward the end of the ritual and hand each covener a lavender wand to keep.

    Then, my playlet, “Emergency Contact,” has to be written. I’ll need three actors for that, one man and two women. Connie told me during our meeting yesterday that my plays should be longer, but hail, I’m afraid of boring people. Toward the end of the hour people are dying to get out of there and go do whatever it is they want to do.

    That’s enough from me for today. I hope to stop by Another’s diary this evening after the horse race. I could certainly use some music! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  17. It’s 66 heading for 82, and very overcast. We had some heavy rain early/both sides of dawn and it may rain again shortly. Maybe. I don’t believe the widget’s 4″ though. Anyway, the PV system is in night mode at the moment. Yesterday we generated 14.86 KWHs and the m-t-d at 98.5 lost more ground.

    I’ve got the house open. Don’t really like drawing in all this damp air but I do like drawing in this cool air. I may be able to keep the A/C off today. It’ll definitely have to go back on tomorrow though even so.

    My friend is at the farm enjoying some quiet time with her cat. And some quiet time to do net searches on the 5 attorney names she’s got. And draw up a list of questions. She knows she’s got to choose someone soon and get this show on the road. Yes, divorces are expensive. But every month she’s not divorces is another month when she’s paying the mortgage, utilities, and insurances on his car, motorcycle, and health. Anyway, she’s staying w/ a friend during her friend’s cancer treatment Monday and will be back here after work Tuesday. Unless something comes up with her friend and she’s back sooner.

    Meanwhile, I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
