Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 70 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies in the morning and clouding up later in the day with a good chance for evening rain.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. Delighted to see it isn’t raining here today. Happy PRIDE Month, and Caribbean American Heritage Month.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. Got a lot to do today, so much cooking. I’m gonna sit for a few minutes & enjoy breakfast then get started before church. I bought mushrooms, and those things have to get cooked right away. Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Sunday!

It’s 68 heading for 84 and sunny. We wrapped up May at 450 KWHs. Not great but definitely could have been worse. The best we’ve ever done was 575.6 in 2020 so that’s the “miracle” target to meet or beat. The worst was 358 in 2017 when the original plastic ductwork cracked and kept get water in it. Which of course shut down the system. The only other year we got less than 525 was last year when the inverter died and we had no production at all for the last 5 days of the month. So our “at least” target is 526 and our “just fine” target is 555. We shall see what we shall see.
I saw the moon again last night. That’s always comforting. Anyway, Sunday chores are done and I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
I seem to not have been clear that the target goal info above is for June. Sigh.
Good Sunday afternoon, Moosekind! It’s a “meh” kind of day here—not actually raining, but the infernal wind never stops blowing. It wasn’t blowing early this morning when I walked down to the garden to get some parsley to garnish Dearly’s breakfast. It’s 67 F. now and unlikely to get any higher.
After breakfast I was doing laundry, keeping an eye on the F1 race (very pleased with the results), and messaging my poor friend on the West Coast, who is going through a very difficult time. Have some work to do before I allow myself to sleep tonight, otherwise the only other thing I have to do is walk through the buildings to get some carry-out for dinner. Braised brisket, or so I hear.
I saw Her again last night! Yep, a beautiful quarter-moon was visible again after the showers moved off somewhere else. I felt so pleased. It was like receiving a small present.
It’s time for tea, so must get on. Hope everyone at the Pond is having a nice Sunday!
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 66 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. The 66 is not refreshing as it is accompanied by very high humidity. It is cloudy now and the sun is trying to make an appearance in the ENE but the sunlight will be scattered and shortlived as the next round of rainstorms are expected to arrive around 11am. Yesterday we got rain in the morning and then a full fledged storm arrived late afternoon! I am not sure how much rain we got, but the wash was running and smelled wonderful. This morning when I woke up, the birds were cheeping and calling out to each other more vigorously than normal: “plenty of water for everyone today!”
The Ukraine attack on the Russian air fields exposed the rot of the Russian state. From what I read, they have no way to replace their planes because they can’t make them any longer and they are still under Western sanctions for their unprovoked attack on Ukraine. I hope that the captive sycophants in the Republican Party will draw the line at letting the Felon sell American bombers to Russia. They are terrible people so I guess we can only hope!
I got caught up on accounting projects over the weekend but now we start another month and I need to get organized for June projects. My long running work project will finally end in June and I can get back to working on projects planned and promised for Summer 2025. My WNBA team lost one and won one, my MLB club is on an 8 game winning streak and I only have one thing on my personal must-do list for the week so I hope to coast.
See all y’all later!
This tickled my fancy! The birds here discuss delicious grubs and insects for breakfast. Well, they do chirp “time to go to sleep” at each other when twilight falls.
Good morning. Did my walk, in the office. Monday, ugh.
Monday Meese. Not raining here! Yay! Tomorrow is my husband Nadhiyr’s 74th birthday – am making plans to take him, and 6 friends to an early dinner at his favorite restaurant tomorrow.
Puerto Rico
Hi, Sis! Hope it’s a nice day tomorrow for taking your hubby out for his birthday dinner.
Beautiful weather predicted today! Thank you
Happy Birthday to your husband. 🎶🥁🎁🎂🍨🌹🎶
Thank you Sis!
Happy Birthday to Nadhiyr!!
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s sunny and beautiful this morning, quite unlike yesterday with the infernal wind and overcast, do-nothing skies. Right now in Ashburn it’s 59 F., going up to 75 F. later.
Woke up this morning with a lower lip swollen to twice its normal size. This time it was the left side. Last time it was the right side. I wish to hell I knew what causes these unexplained swellings! Going to put some Prep H on it as soon as I finish drinking my coffee through a straw. I have a meeting at 11, and I’m desperate to go to the gym AND attend the Elvis Impersonator Concert on the lawn at 4. I can wear a mask, but what fun is that? I’d rather look normal. Oh, well, first-world problems!
Feeling terribly chuffed about the clever thing the Ukrainians pulled on the Russians! Slava Ukraini!
Hope to work more on the monologue that’s due to the Writers’ Group on Thursday. I have a good beginning, it’s just a matter of fine-tuning it. Also have to work on my playlet, “Emergency Contact,” for the Drama Club. Luckily it only has three actors in it.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
It’s 72 heading for 87 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 21.48 KWHs which is also the m-t-d at the moment.
My friend emailed me yesterday. She’s got the names of 5 lawyers, including the one who did her bankruptcy and has to be involved whether or not he can do her divorce. (Which is unlikely as he’s not in Washington County.) She’s also got a shrink appointment tomorrow. A new person so hope/pray that works out. And her cat Sebastian loves the farmhouse. Settled right in. Unfortunately that’s not a permanent solution – at least not for a couple of years until she can retire – but for now it’s great. Her sister lives a lot closer to the farm and will come over to feed Sebastian daily when my friend is in Fayetteville.
Got laundry in the washer. Will be hanging it outside for the first time this year. Put flea goo on the escape artist cats yesterday. Just hope the neighborhood cat that’s a fighter won’t be around. If my boys get into a fight, well, I’ll have to find a way to hang my clothes outside without them escaping. Meanwhile I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Tuesday Meese. Looking forward to today’s birthday for Nad – we haven’t been out to a restaurant in the last 5 years. Lovely weather today.
Puerto Rico
{{{Dee}}} Enjoy the birthday dinner. 🎂🍨🎁🥁🎶🌹💖
Good morning. Don’t know how the morning got away from me. Just a quick “hi” before work.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 63 F. with hazy sunlight in Ashburn. We’re getting smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Supposedly it’s going up to 83 F. today.
After yesterday morning’s outbreak of ugliness, I had to wear a mask. I didn’t use a K95 mask, which leaves deep groves in my aged visage, but the kind of cloth mask we used before we learned they weren’t really effective at warding off Covid. I wanted to go to the Elvis Impersonator concert on the lawn, so I wore my huge garden hat, sunglasses, and the mask. No one recognized me, fortunately. I changed the pillowcase I’d been using, slept on the opposite side of the ugliness, and woke up to find the hideous “collagen lower lip” is almost back to normal. The jaw is still red and on the left side a little puggy, but I might be able to get away with not wearing a mask today.
Madame Primary Physician gave me a referral to an allergist, but did NOT mention a specific name. Luckily, my neighbor down the hall, who is the Allergy Queen of Birch Point (our building), gave me the name of one who hangs out in our neighborhood. Will call at 9 in the hope he’s accepting new patients.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the left ear still itches and is red, the skin on the right side of my chest itches (why? it was covered by a nightshirt), so I’m wondering. Grass pollen is high today. Sorry to be so boring, but when I’m itching it kind of preys on my mind.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a lovely birthday dinner to Dee and her hubby.
{{{Diana}}} Itching always demands one’s attention. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
That surely sounds like some sort of allergic reaction. I hope an allergist can figure it out!
It’s 73 heading for 83 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 21 KWHs and the m-t-d at 42.76 is definitely on track. We’ll see how long that lasts.
My friend couldn’t get permission to work remotely so she was in the office yesterday and here last night. She unloaded more stuff she’s had in her car since last Thursday – including her “important papers” box. And discovered that both her marriage certificate and the title to her car (bought before the marriage so definitely her car) that he’s been driving since she stopped doing harp gigs are missing. She’s beginning to realize she’s been set up. In his ongoing drive to be seen as the victim in all this he’s been escalating to force her to leave him. She’s going to try to get a new bank account and move her money out of the joint account this week. (The joint account is a farce. He hasn’t put any money in it. He just takes money out of it.) Basically she’s going to try to protect money before he realizes she’s serious. Which he will when she shows up this weekend, with friends, to move her stuff. She’s got a zoom meeting with her bankruptcy lawyer tomorrow. And a shrink appointment today. New shrink so prayers up this one works. Step by step. For the foreseeable future she’s moving back here. We were housemates for 14 years, 5 of them in this house. Whether this time it’s months or years, well, that’s up to her. We shall see.
Meanwhile my internet was down for 2-1/2 hours yesterday and while I think I got everything done before I signed off for the evening, I’d better double check. And then be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
OMG, bfitz! What goings-on!
Some men are dirtbags. He must be Stephen Miller’s brother.
Yeah. Definitely a dirtbag.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 66 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast and a tiny chance of rain today and tomorrow. We did not get any more rain yesterday but we had ended up with close to a half inch on Sunday which was a record for June 1st. Next week we heat up again.
A quick scan of the headlines to see what fresh hell had transpired while I ignored the news yesterday showed nothing that I need to be alert to – or can impact from here. Yesterday, there was a story in my local paper about a woman who warned her neighbor that there were ICE agents pretending to be Tucson Electric Power workers looking for him. She said that TEP workers always have uniforms and badges and reminded the neighbors that they do NOT have to let any ICE goons into their home without a court order. The Nicaraguan man they were looking for was able to get out of there safely. Bless her for caring and helping thwart the Felon’s Brownshirts.
I have nearly finished getting caught up on personal accounting and setting up a good to-do list. I have some errands to run this afternoon that will take me away from my desk for the rest of the day and I want to make sure I know what I am working on when I start back in tomorrow morning.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 49 and mostly sunny in Bellingham today. I haven’t been sleeping well so my mornings are slow and day time naps are happening more often. Time to find some coffee and try to work at my messy desk. Best wishes to all.
Wednesday Meese. It’s 52 here in Kingston going up to 80 and no rain!
Had a wonderful time at Nad’s birthday outing yesterday. We had 6 guests, and everyone loved the food. Realized it was the first time we’d been to a restaurant since COVID. It felt really odd.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. Got in 2 good workouts yesterday, yay me. Now watching Nova about the outer planets and Kuiper belt; getting ready for work. Haven’t heard about wfh but I will soon so I’m trying to savor these days. And searching for a new breakfast recipe: vegetarian, make-ahead, nutritious. My stomach seems to be tired of eggs, vegetables, beans.
Vanilla cashew shake. A banana, cashews, chia seeds. It’s delicious! I think it calls for almond milk too.
Another, here’s a delicious recipe.
Vegan Vanilla Cashew Smoothie
Prep: 5minutes mins Total: 5 minutes mins
Author: Kare Yield: 1 shake
A creamy, protein-rich smoothie that tastes like a vanilla milkshake!

Ingredients
1 banana
1/3 cup raw cashews
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional*)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch salt
1 cup ice cubes (about 5-6 large cubes)

Place all ingredients in the pitcher of a high-powered blender (I recently got a Vitamix blender and haven’t looked back – totally worth the investment). Blend on low until all ingredients are fairly well incorporated, then blend on high until completely pureed, about 30 seconds. Pour into a glass and serve with a straw.

Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s going to be HOT today. Right now it’s 70 F. in Ashburn, going up to 87 F.
Gorgeous here. We appear to be less bothered today by the smoke from Canadian wildfires. Still have a raw, itchy patch on my stomach, but the swelling and redness on my face has subsided sufficiently that I can be seen in public without a mask. I want to buy some close-fitting plastic gloves, but the last time I ordered gloves from Amazon, they were big and clumsy. I have to make Little Fellow Lemon Tarts for the Writers’ Group next week, then lavender shortbread cookies for the summer solstice ritual, then oatmeal-walnut cookies for the Garden Party. Given the length of my false nails, I think it would be a little more sanitary to work in gloves, even though I scrub said nails every morning with soap and a nail brush.
Received an email from the allergist’s office saying don’t use Allegra for 7 days before the office visit, which is next Wednesday. The email I received yesterday said don’t use Allegra for 5 days before the visit. Sheet! Why couldn’t they say 7 days in the first place? I took an Allegra tablet before I read my email this morning.
Going to the gym today or will die in the attempt. Have an appointment with the foot doctor at noon.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and healing white light to Anne Louise Avery, who is ill in bed. May she recover quickly!
