Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 73 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. Raining here – going up to a muggy 90.

Good morning. Already a productive morning, not just next week’s tea but lunch made also. So sad about the Iran war, our policy there has been nothing but stupid since 1950 (coup overthrowing democracy there & installing the shah — yeah, brilliant thing to do). Anyway, today: church, more cooking and not watching the news. Oh, I did a first draft of my music diary for July 5: liberal patriotic songs.

It’s 80 and sunny going up to 91/heat index 96 – according to the widget. Yesterday we generated 21.38 KWHs and the m-t-d at 333 gained a bit more. We’ve only 9 production days left in June so it’s possible to get over 500 for the month. We shall see what we shall see. (& the A/C just kicked on.)
Aji’s well pump went out yesterday so Wings will be hauling water in from town with his truck until they can somehow raise the between $4K & $5K to replace it. And the guy who does that work can get them in. She asked for sales when she posted it. I followed her right up and asked for donations as well. At least that’s one person of all the folks I boost who might get what she needs. The rest? It’s like being on shore watching a shipwreck with folks in the water drowning and all I can do is yell to the folks in boats and point out where they are. I can’t make the folks in boats actually help them. Sigh. But I’d best be about that anyway. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Sunday morning, Moosekind. It’s 86 F. here at high noon. This is the first day of the Heat Alert, which will last five days and bring us temps. in the 100’s.
Wanted to let you know I’m still alive. Dearly went to Urgent Care Friday afternoon, never came home, Saturday morning they put him in Arlington Hospital. Our only car is still in the Kaiser parking lot, but Younger Son is going to take me to get it this afternoon. Daughter-in-law (Elder Son’s wife) has been by Dearly’s side constantly. Dearly just texted to say the doctor has finally come round and said he can probably go home tomorrow. YAY! Hope to see y’all later.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. No war, no war, Stupid Orange Thing!
Glad to hear he is coming home.
Oh my Diana, sending healing thoughts to you and your family.
Yikes! {{{Diana}}} good that he’s coming home. Healing Energy to him – and you. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 53 and sunny in Bellingham. Ava’s last dance recital happens this afternoon so I have a ballet bouquet to make and lots of nostalgia to process. Between our daughters and Emma and Ava we have been going to dance performances for over 40 years. Life does go on so as high school and ballet winds down it will be interesting to see what happens next.
I’ve been to tired to do my part for an outdoor summer solstice dinner so we’ll try again tonight. Best wishes to all.
Good morning. It’s 10,000 degrees (okay, 78) at the crack of dawn & I still did my walk/run. 1.3 miles, I only ran 4 minutes of that but in this heat/humidity, that’s superhero stuff. Anyway, happy Monday. Sending good thoughts to all.
Monday Meese. We are still under excessive heat alert here in Kingston – will be 99 today.

Selection of Jordán Conde as UPR president generates criticism
https://www.sanjuandailystar.com/post/selection-of-jord%C3%A1n-conde-as-upr-president-generates-criticism
Reactions continued to pour in on Sunday regarding the appointment of Zayira Jordán Conde as president of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). She was elected by the university’s governing board in a majority vote despite lacking support across the 11 campuses.
The vote has faced criticism, as Jordán Conde was elected following lobbying efforts by Ángel Cintrón, the former campaign manager for the governor, and La Fortaleza Chief of Staff Francisco Domenech, who critics say influenced members of the governing board.
The Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) stated that the vote highlights the current administration’s and the Financial Oversight and Management Board’s ongoing plans to undermine the university.
“Historically, the two-party system has contributed to the politicization of the UPR, and they continue this detrimental practice, betraying the entire university community,” the PIP said in a written statement. “We stand in solidarity with the students, faculty, and staff of the university. From the PIP, we reaffirm our commitment to overseeing these processes and continuing to legislate for a public, accessible, and quality university.”

It’s 79/heat index 84 heading for 91/heat index 97 and sunny. And the A/C kicked on half hour ago. Yesterday we generated 21.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 354.24 gained a little more. With 8 more production days in the month.
I wonder how many chicken hawks out there trying to start WWIII paid any attention to the fact that during the grand and glorious WWII we had gas, food, & clothing rationing here? As a response to skyrocketing prices? And that was when we produced most of it here in the U.S. Which we don’t any longer.
Sinusitis flare last night. I’d be surprised if I got 4 hours of sleep. So I’m very slow and groggy today. Oh well. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! I’m hoping Dearly can come home today. Mindy, our daughter-in-law, and I visited yesterday and saw him for an hour. “Saw” is the operative word as we couldn’t hold a proper conversation. Every 5 minutes someone came in and started doing things to him. I’m very much hoping he can come home this afternoon.
The nasty boatload of meds I’m taking are causing occasional dizziness, sensations of being about to faint, and weird images in my vision field. Yesterday before we went to Dearly’s room, I had to sit down by the elevators in the hallway of the hospital until the weirdness passed. I’d like to speak to someone about these horrible side effects. It makes me afraid to drive.
Everyone’s telling me to slow down. Huh? I can do that when I’m dead. In the meantime, I’m resting between chores. Have emptied the dishwasher, will begin to put the used dishes in. I’ve been really tired since Friday.
Well, now that I’ve cheered y’all up, how are you? Stay inside in the a.c. today. Our heat alert goes on at 11 a.m. Right now in Ashburn it’s 85 F. on a pretty nice-looking day. We’re going for a high of 100 F. It’ll be worse tomorrow, they say.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and to the Innocents beyond.
{{{Diana}}} Healing Energy to you & Dearly. Hope he can come home today. & definitely get the side effects to your meds checked out! Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Our rain chances evaporated in the desert heat and we are back down to the obligatory “2% chance” which means 0 but no one in the weather business will ever say that! I saw the waning crescent in the ENE sky this morning, she is now to the left of the Morning Star. She will be new in the the wee hours on Wednesday.
I have some appointments this morning and I need to get some things done so that I don’t have to work this afternoon. My WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, is on a hot streak and they are fun to watch. Yesterday I rooted for the Evil Empire Las Vegas Aces to defeat the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever which they did. I also watched the expansion franchise Golden State Valkyries win and finally have a winning record – it is a feel good story with an Asian-American coach and not being given much help in the expansion draft. They have put together a pretty good roster and have an amazing fan base with sell out crowds.
See all y’all later!
Heh. I rooting against “the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever” too!
Good morning, 56 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. A slow and sleepy morning here, RonK has been to the eye doc and I’m resting the morning away. I have a few plants to tend to this afternoon and than should help keep my what the hell is the felon going to get away with next anxiety checked. Six months of this mess is more than enough! Best wishes to all.
I wish we had a midterm election to look forward to like we did in 2017 but I am not so sure that we will be allowed free and fair elections. Apparently, Ohio and Texas can regerrymander new Congressional Districts any time, instead of based on the decennial census, and have plans to rearrange their states to eliminate those pesky Democratic seats. The first estimates I saw, from a Marc Elias post, was 5 new R seats in Texas and 4 new R seats in Ohio, more than enough to make up for any kind “wave” Democrats might muster. If they don’t even have to placate nervous “moderate” Republicans or the angry Freedom Caca, the next round of budget cuts will be 100 times worse than what they are planning for us this year. :(
Good morning. Getting ready for work & to ignore the news.
It’s 77 heading for 92/heat index 97 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 20 KWHs and the m-t-d at 374.38 gained a little. No way to make any but my “at least” targets – but at least I can do that. IF the clouds stay away for the rest of the month.
Good news for Aji. Not only did they raise via sales & donations $900 over the weekend but Wings went to town yesterday morning to visit an old buddy, who happens to be the local well driller, hoping to get penciled in for the earliest cancellation. Ol’ Buddy came out a few hours later, confirmed that the pressure assembly was shot (which they knew), said the tank needed to be replace (which they’d been afraid of) – then replaced the pressure assembly for less than they’d already raised and ordered the tank without cash up front. Then gave them an estimate for the rest of the job, parts & labor, that was $1500 less than their previous estimate for parts only. So they’ve got water now, with decent pressure (they haven’t had decent pressure since last Fall), and 2 weeks to raise the remaining $2K.
Still groggy but at least I got over 6 hours of sleep. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! Just filled out a tiresome and very intrusive online medical form called “MyChart” for the dumb doctor visit tomorrow. My inbox is filled with their nagging emails.
Have not heard from Dearly at all, but must hurry and do errands so I can be home by noon. They are delivering an oxygen tank for Dearly today between 12 and 3 p.m. I will be so glad to have him home!
Hope everyone is doing well. I woke up too early, but that’s OK, will make up for it later. It’s already 86 F., going up to a “hunnerd.” I went to my garden tub to water the poor old tomatoes, and so forth, picked some parsley and mint.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
I hope Dearly is home soon and that that oxygen tank takes care of what ails him.
I feel badly for people in the Northeast who don’t usually have that kind of heat – lots of people don’t have air conditioning and can’t even add it in the older houses.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 73 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast but the chance of rain today returned with a possible afternoon shower. There are a few scattered clouds over the mountains this morning. Yesterday, we saw what looked like an alien space ship hovering over the mountains. We found it to be a Lenticular cloud which is a cloud that forms at high altitudes and the wind patterns on the downside of the mountains. I was surprised that we never saw one! We are always looking at our mountains. No moon sighting this morning, she is too thin (at 1.3% illumination) to see in the dawn’s light.
I survived a day controlled by Other People’s Schedules and today I can finish up some projects that had been set aside. I still have some errands to run but they are not time-sensitive and don’t even have to be done today! It is hard to believe that June is almost already gone – I had such great plans for project work completions in June but life intervened. The best I can do is make a good list and see what I can accomplish.
See all y’all later!
It’s 96 here in Kingston :(

Good afternoon, 54 and cloudy in Bellingham today. My INR is high, so I need to eat a spinach salad for lunch today and the vitamin K should help get the numbers to a safer zone. I’m really tired of managing warfarin but oh well, it’s what I must do. Time to get going, eat lunch, then plant a few tough begonias. The price for plants on the clearance rack at Lowes garden center is good this year so I couldn’t resist. I’m feeling very gloomy re the affairs of this country so I hope garden therapy works today. Best wishes to all.
Wednesday Meese. It will be 94 here today in Kingston. Sigh. I’m staying inside.
