Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 77 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Good morning. Having a relaxing weekend, will have to cook a lot next weekend but that’s a then problem. For now, I’m enjoying the smell of my steeping tea and watching the local news.
Good morning Meese: posted
Puerto Rico
“I am tired of the politicians in Puerto Rico. I no longer believe them, because they have played too many times with the hope of the people. They do not convince me with speeches or promises, because the real struggle is not done from a platform or from the capitol, it is done in the street, shoulder to shoulder with the people, charging the same as the worker charges, suffering the same as the family suffers is the only way they will know what the people go through day by day.”
It’s 80, heading for 91/heat index 98 -according to the widget. It’s sunny at the moment but isn’t supposed to stay that way. Yesterday we generated 10.6 KWHs, lost more ground, but the m-t-d at 462.46 still has a (bare) chance of getting over 500 by sundown tomorrow. It’s not likely considering the clouds in the forecast, but it’s possible.
Got my Sunday chores done and one extra. The Subaru hasn’t been run in 12 days and I don’t need to go anywhere today, so I got out the compressor that works off the energy port, fired up the engine, and aired up the tires. So tires and battery are both full. For now. Eating my oatmeal and about to get started on my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good bright beautiful Sunday morning, Moosekind! It was bright and beautiful yesterday as well, but it still clouded over as darkness fell and we received a little shower. Currently the temp. in Ashburn is 82 F., going up to all the 8s later.
Cooked the Full English for Dearly (well, as full as we can get over here, considering that we can’t get certain U.K. ingredients), so he’s watching the half of the F1 race that managed to record. Stupid Xfinity! But there’s no way to change it, we’re stuck with it. Went to look at le jardin this morning, cut away some dead-looking leaves. My poor little Sungolds aren’t doing at all well, and I’d better get something to prop up the Romas. Nothing is ripe but the lavender looks pretty. I cut some parsley and mint to garnish our meals, so that’s it for the day. The air quality today is supposed to be unhealthful.
The ruination of this country is too depressing to watch. I simply can’t bear it. Going to concentrate on doing my own thing today.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 56 and sunny outside my windows today. Yesterday was a fun family day and the graduates’ accomplishments are all honored, yay! I think Erica and her family are planning a hike somewhere but my legs need a quiet day so I’ll stay put. Best wishes to all.
Jan, even though Phoenix lost yesterday, I had a wonderful time watching the game because of the fans and the celebration of Pride Day (and Pride Month) at the game.
It was a great celebration! I was a little surprised at how much the ownership and top level management of the Mercury embraced Pride Month. Arizona is not considered LGBT friendly except for the big cities and the MAGAtry of the Republican legislature is only held in check by the veto pen of Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs and the vigilance of Democratic Attorney General, Kris Mayes.
I was too! I am now actively following the team
Monday Meese. Sigh. We have rain again and it will be 89 today. :(

Independence: the only status that removes ICE from Puerto Rico… forever.
Good morning. Did my walk/run, in the office. Short week, and this is my only day in the office, yay! One person is retiring, so it also sucks a little.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Partly cloudy skies over Ashburn as usual, current temp. 80 F., going higher. There may or may not be thunderstorms: if there aren’t, I’ll have to water my plants tomorrow.
This morning I have a dentist appointment in Herndon, plus a couple of errands to run. I can’t understand why I feel so tired all the time and keep falling asleep. Also, I wish I felt like exercising. I’m so used to walking and going to the gym, it feels unnatural not to do it.
Began work on the monologue yesterday. The book we’re basing it on is extremely irritating, the way it jumps back and forth in time. The monologue will be strictly chronological. I just have to hit the high points. The poor woman did have some happiness in her life, but very little. Imagine having six children and being forced to watch five of them die before their time. No wonder she and her upperclass lady friends drank and took drugs. What else could they do?
Well, now that I’ve cheered y’all up, I will wish you a good day. How much longer can he ruin this country? Don’t these evil people ever have heart attacks?
I remember the cartoon from 2016 when they had photos of all the people running for the presidency. It had “first Jewish president” under Bernie Freaking Sanders face, “first female president” under Hillary’s face, “first Canadian president” under Ted Cruz’s face and then “Last American President” under tRump’s face. That is still true – people voting to elect tRump in 2016 set the stage for him to be the last American president as his hand-picked Supreme Court has cooked the books and shredded the Constitution to turn the country over to the first American dictator. Sucks to be us.
It’s 77 heading for 85/heat index 90 according to the widget – and it’s probably right since it’s overcast already. Yesterday we generated 17.75 KWHs and the m-t-d is 480. With the cloud cover it’s seriously unlikely to reach 500. Sigh.
Opened the house for all of 20 minutes before the humidity made it uncomfortable. There’s a nice breezy out there but the temps are too close to what my A/C is set for to open up again. I’ve had trouble all month remembering it’s June and here it is the last day. Oh well. Maybe July will make a firmer impression on my memory. Or maybe not. There are a lot of things I can think of that would make an impression but none of them are good. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 84 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 106. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Rain and a slight cooldown are still expected for later in the week.
I am going to go full “NEWS FREE” until the Senate’s bill destroying everything dear to us and the entire planet is passed along to the House. It makes no sense to get agitated over what is and isn’t in the bill until the sausage making is done. I suspect we will be depending on the House to block the bill – their jobs will be the first ones on the line once people realize what is in that monstrosity. I will not be holding my breath even though the Arizona delegation will be voting to destroy the multi-billion dollar tourism industry in their state and could single-handedly block the bill – but won’t because, really, hate trumps common sense for MAGAts.
My WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, lost to the Evil Empire but my second favorite team, the Golden State Valkyries won so that took the sting out of it.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 56 and sunny in Bellingham today. I have a haircut this morning, some bills to pay, and then another dinner to organize. We cook together. The new patio set up is working as I hoped, and outdoor meals are fun for everyone. But just under the surface all of us are worried and angry re the POTUS/SCOTUS mess we living through. Best wishes to all.
Tuesday Meese. Raining here again. Temps are going back up into the 90’s this week.
Puerto Rico
Thanks, Dee, glad to see Vieques getting some attention!
Good morning. Wfh today, so glad. I know the Big Ugly Bill will likely pass today, just hoping there’s some way to mitigate the damage. I’m gonna watch Star Wars Rebels today for inspiration.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 82 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. There were some storms over the mountains yesterday but they are still arriving from the south too far east to hit the valley. We did have a major dust storm that obscured the mountains for a while. We were glad to not need to go anywhere! Rain is still in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Fingers crossed.
Still going “NEWS FREE” except for sports. I scan the Breaking News headlines that show up in my Inbox but that is all. It is crazy that Thom Freaking Tillis, darling of the Freedom Caca and destroyer of North Carolina democracy in the 2010s is now the “principled Republican” willing to give up his seat rather than vote to harm his constituents. I thought it would be Lisa Murkowski but from what I saw she is all in on the BBB monstrosity coming out of the Senate. I saw something about her getting some sea captains who work out of Alaska exempted from the Medicaid rules so that they don’t lose their health care and she is willing to sacrifice the rest of her impoverished state for that. Sheesh. In any event, the ugly keeps getting uglier.
The WNBA will be expanding to add three more teams over the next three years. Good news but too late to help the sad situation that some of the players are in right now as the too-small roster sizes mean that a lot of them have been waived as the Eurobasket players come back from their competition. The roster is 12 and when it dips below 10 because of injuries or absences, teams can sign a “temporary player” but then they have to be let go after the roster gets back to 12. Some very good players who could not find teams at the beginning of the year are going to be sitting by their phone waiting for a call instead of playing basketball.
I have many things to do today as I had a short work day yesterday.
See all y’all later!
It’s 71 heading for 88/heat index 90 and overcast at the moment. Not off to a great start for July. Yesterday we generated 18.24 KWHs and closed out June at 497.93 – a disappointment. That’s the 3rd lowest during the life of the system & total lowest if I don’t include years we had equipment failure issues during the month. We’ll if July does better. The best so far was 562 in 2019 and the lowest so far was 490 in 2016. Not counting last year when we got no generation at all because the system was down. So the “miracle” target is over 562 and the “at least” target is 491 and the “realistic” target is around 525.
Got the house open and will close up in 20 minutes or so. Then put the laundry on. And hope the “clearing off, no rain” forecast is correct. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! Woke up far too early as usual, which means a big crash after lunch. Right now it’s 83 F. in Ashburn. It’s rather a pretty day, with blue skies, a few wisps of white cloud, and sunlight. “They” are predicting terrible thunderstorms and whathaveyou for this afternoon, so it’s a good thing I’m going out this morning.
Been catching up on my email. I want to work more on “V” today, and try to draw parallels between the collapse of Southern society in 1865 with the collapse of our society today. Don’t you imagine the Founding Fathers are whirling in their graves right about now?
Proof that I am a nasty woman: I feel FAR too overmedicated and intend to complain to my “case manager” this very day. Every evening I fall asleep in the green chair after dinner. I should be roaming through the buildings (it’s too hot and humid outside) so I won’t gain weight. Feel tired all the time, have no energy, and EVERY DAY brings a different swelling and itchiness on a different part of the body. The other day it was the front of my left thigh; today it’s the back of my right arm. There’s only so much cortisone cream one is allowed to use in a given 24-hour period.
That aside, I must get my hair done today and try to avoid falling asleep. I promised this 10-page monologue to my fellow actor before August, so I’m desperate to work on that.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 58 and sunny in Bellingham today. We relaxed at Boulevard Park yesterday afternoon instead of cooking dinner, so it was an easy day. We’ll cook a taco supper for everyone tonight so it will be a busy evening. My family are all fine at the moment so if I can avoid the news I may even have a feeling of well being, imagine that! Best wishes to all.
