Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 69 heading for 91, heat index 95, and the fog burned off so now it’s sunny. Yesterday it wasn’t sunny until midafternoon (we did get .4″ rain) so we only generated 8.29 KWHs but we did at least generate that much. The m-t-d at 130.47 lost ground but is still, barely, on track to reach 500 for July.
I’ll need to close up the house soon. Like now. The sun already makes itself felt if one is out in it, even so little a bit as putting out the mail, and will be heating up the air very shortly. But it’s nice to have the house open for a bit. Especially since we had liver and onions for dinner (yes, I know – yuk! liver – but liver is loaded with iron & B vitamins which we both felt the need of replenishing) and the house still smells strongly of onions. So. Close up the house then be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Energy for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good beautiful Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s 79 F., going up higher, and today will be a busy day. In fact, I’m due in the Games Room at 9:45 so I have to get moving El Fasto.
This morning I’ve to do the Morning Coffee for the building at 10, then there’s a building meeting at 3, followed by a thunderstorm, then the UU dinner at 5. Younger Son and fam have chosen today to come to dinner. I wish he’d give us a little more notice. I’ve had this UU dinner arranged for a month and I’m not blowing it off. It’s still OK, because the dinner will be over by 7 or earlier and they’ll probably still be here when I return.
We had a Big Beautiful Thunderstorm yesterday afternoon that passed after about half an hour. Not sure yet how much rain we received. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 65 and raining outside my windows today. The garden is dry so the rain is welcome. I dug through the layers on my desk yesterday, found the immediate tasks, and now have multiple working lists for the rest. I need to stay focused on that work, another reason to welcome the rain. Best wishes to all.
Good afternoon, meeses! Wednesday …
I have been ridiculously busy today and it will not be better tomorrow. I did see the moon last night and this morning early.
See all y’all tomorrow!
Hi Jan – congrats to your team taking down the Lynx and for the return of DeWanna Bonner. I spent some time on TwitX blocking and reporting racist Indiana trolls attacking her – and her partner Alyssa Thomas
It was a great sports day yesterday coming on the heels of a great sports night with the New York Liberty shutting down the Evil Empire! The Mercury team needed to show that they could beat the Lynx – we will have to beat them at some point to advance in the playoffs when that time comes. We came within a last second 3 pointer against a Collier-less team about a month ago but this time we beat them when they were at full strength and we were not (we were missing Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally.) Bonner was a great addition and puts a lie to the Indiana Fever’s claim that she is washed up. All she needed was for her longtime teammate Alyssa Thomas to look for her and pass her the ball! In other great news, the Valkyries beat the Racist Enabling Cleveland and Detroit Dissing Indiana Fever at their place in a dominating fashion, Angel Reese’s Sky won and our Western Division rival, the Seattle Storm, lost. I am exhausted from all that sports watching! :)
The nasty twitter and YouTube troll attacks on Bonner and Alyssa Thomas were openly and viciously homophobic –
I loved the game so much I watched it twice!
I cheered watching Indiana get beat :)
Thursday Meese. 73 going up to 82 and raining. Very muggy.
Puerto Rico
Good for Chicago and for activists there pushing back against tRump’s gestapo. It is so clearly racist that ICE is targeting gatherings and businesses of black and brown people without any regard for the nationality or immigration status of the people. And frightening that American citizens, because of their non-whiteness, are being arrested and detained. Someone needs to teach the math and science impaired MAGAts that there is no way to change the inevitability of “their” country no longer being a majority white nation despite the efforts of Stephen Freaking Miller, Elon Freaking Musk, JD Freaking Vance and the Freaking Supreme Court.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 88 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 106. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Last night the moon was covered with light clouds over the mountains but this morning she was looking in my office window in the clear SW sky and peered over my shoulder for about a half hour before she set behind the buildings. Today she will be full at 1:36pm when she will be below the horizon and won’t rise here until after 8pm. I think we will have clear skies but during monsoon season, all bets are off.
I have a full day of project work today and then the possibility of a less busy weekend as far as work goes. I am going to take some time off at the end of the month and into August so I need to get some office tidying done – I can’t relax with a cluttered desk.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. In the office, did my walk. Watching Le Tour on my tablet, one of the Americans — Matteo Jorgenson — is in the top 5. I must have punched extra hard at kickboxing yesterday because my arms are sore. Anyway, happy Friday Eve.
It’s 70 going up to 90/heat index 100 and sunny. At the moment. Yesterday we generated 18.84 KWHs and the m-t-d at 149.31 gained a little and is still on track for over 500.
Things are starting to move, finally, in my friend’s divorce. Both sides have filed for uncontested divorce. That’s basically just they got married on X date, separated on Y date, and nothing is to be sold, destroyed, or taken from the house until further notice. Great on the sold or destroyed part. Not so good on the not taking anything out since all her stuff except the weekender bag she packed when she left with her cat (and what she’d left at the farm from when she was helping caregive the parents) is still there. But hopefully, it will be over soon and part of that “over” will be for her to get her personal belongings. Most of which she owned prior to marrying this guy.
I haven’t looked at the news and don’t plan to but I know it can’t be good. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Unfortunately looking at the news just reminds us of how little power the Good Guys have in this country right now. Every once in a while, a court victory or a protest gives us hope but they all seem so temporary. It is hard some days to keep that hope alive.
Yes and yes. That’s why I don’t look.
Aji caught this gorgeous view of the “Berry Moon” & posted it on her Instagram

Good cloudy Thursday morning, Meese! Have a very busy day with back-to-back meetings and tarts to bake this morning. Yesterday was stormy, although we didn’t seem to receive much rain. Never mind, it has rained two days in a row and may do it again the rest of the week, so I don’t have to water the tomatoes.
Yesterday’s morning coffee was very successful, in that everyone loved the decorations (artificial lavender bouquets in bud vases) and the lavender shortbread cookies I took out of the freezer a few hours before.
The family came over last night and it was good to see them. Dearly has gone to the dermatologist in Reston. I need to squeeze the juice outta the lemons, let the pastry warm up, etc., etc.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Friday Meese. Today is my initiation birthday celebration. I was initiated on July 11, 1998. Time has really flown by for me.
Puerto Rico
Happy Initiation Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful celebration.
Congratulations, Sister Dee!
Happy anniversary! Definitely something to celebrate. {{{Dee}}} And yeah, time has a habit of doing that. LOL.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 82 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. There was a magnificent full moon last night rising over the mountains and this morning I was able to see her in the SW sky shining into my office before she dipped behind the buildings.
Yesterday I waited too long to take my walk and had to use the fitness center as it was too hot (101 degrees) to walk outdoors. This morning I am going to break at 6am to get my outside walk. The treadmill is very boring.
Another extremely busy day followed by a busier-than-I-want weekend, a crazy Monday and then, I hope, a peaceful rest of the week.
See all y’all later!
Congratulations, Sister Dee!
Morning. My a/c broke last night. I’m at home, waiting for the repair guy, lucky they said they can come this morning. Now to check my credit cards to see which one has the most room on it. Sigh.
Yikes! Hope it’s something they can fix when they get there. Holding you in The Light. {{{anotherdemocrat}}}
Oh dear – hope you get it back today
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! “Fair it is as a morning in May,” but it’s going up to 90 f. Right now it’s 77 F. under blue skies. We never receive as much rain as DC and Maryland, so we’re still a bit more than an inch under for the year to date. We may have a thunderstorm this afternoon. Then again, we may not.
I am itching terribly. At LEAST this time it’s not my face that’s red and swelling! No, this time it’s my left thigh. The other day it was my right bum. The itching, redness, and swelling move around. Doctors ignore it, which to me proves they know nothing.
Yesterday my printer decided to act up and wouldn’t start working again until I unplugged the bloody thing, waited 10 minutes, then plugged it in again. It spat 10 copies of all the jobs I’d been trying to get it to do. Now the TV, which is Dearly’s LIFELINE, refuses to get the local station. As he watches all day long, this is going to drive him nuts. Hope he can get the worthless Xfinity people out here. We’ve tried all the usual fixes but nothing works.
My writers were very glad to see me yesterday, as I was to see them. I had to leave at 3 for another meeting, so there are still some unresolved questions. We did settle a few things: they do not want to attend the Actors’ Workshop on August 14 instead of having our regular session, and they do not like the idea of each of them taking it in turns to lead the group for a session. There are four of them capable of doing that.
I’m worried that if I pop my clogs the group will disband. Or if, Goddess forbid, Dearly pops his clogs and I’m unable to lead for a couple of months. As a control freak, I want to know exactly what’s going to happen at all times.
Oh, well, enough of this literary chitchat. Have my first Cardiac Rehab this morning, so must be washed and brushed and outside waiting for the transport by 10 a.m.. I’d better hop to it. Dearly is expecting the oxygen man, the Rehab person, and, it’s to be hoped, the Xfinity guy. He’ll go mad without the TV.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

It’s 78 heading for 93/heat index 98, sunny, and the air feels like tepid bathwater outdoors. The A/C kicked on just before 7 ack emma (as the English say). Yesterday we generated 18.82 KWHs and the m-t-d at 168.11 gained a little more ground.
Saw a very brief and hazy glimpse of the moon out my bedroom window as I was waking up in the predawn light. She was so far to the south that she was mostly hidden by trees, but there’s one little spot – not quite a gap but the foliage isn’t as thick – where I was able to see her. Aji’s people call this one the Berry Moon. A lovely name for her.
Back to waiting on my friend’s divorce. Which sux. But that’s life, right? She’ll be off to the farm after dinner tonight. She’s taken to being the head cook and I’m really appreciating that. But I’ll manage on my own over the weekend. LOL. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 58 and light clouds in Bellingham today. Some good news, Emma passed her license exam yesterday so she is now an official Radiology Tech and we are proud grand parents. She will start applying for a position at the hospital but fortunately she is house siting and working at a coffee shop so she can take her time. It’s been a busy few months with graduations, finding work, making school plans, etc but all the grandkids are settled now and it feels good to know they are all happy with their lives.
I hope my old knees will allow me to do some gardening today because my soul needs some garden therapy to counter the worry of growing old in tRump America. I know I’m not alone with deep concerns and that helps me cope but it’s still hard. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 100. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Maybe some rain on Monday and into next week. The mostly full slightly waning moon is high in the SW sky looking over my left shoulder as I type this.
Not much to say! I wonder if the Texas flood victims can sue Elon Musk and his DOGE team for cancelling FEMA contracts for call centers. It is incredible to me that red states, where 90% of the natural disasters that strike America occur, voted for and support a federal government that shut down it’s emergency response agency and pretty much tells everyone to “pray for the rain to stop and then donate to a GoFundMe” as their answer to the catastrophic flooding that destroyed homes, businesses and infrastructure and killed hundreds of people. Ronald Reagan got his wish – a political party in charge of the federal government that can find no value in any services it provides and then shut them all down.
Mission accomplished, Ronnie! There is no one from a Unified Republican Government to say those “terrifying” words.
Today I am doing mop-up on a project that was completed yesterday and then will organize the next set of projects I will be working on for the rest of July and into August. I love quiet Saturday mornings.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. Posted
It’s 75 going to 85, heat index 95, dark, overcast, and off and on raining. Actually raining part of the time, we’ve gotten just over 1.5″ already today. The PV system is off, of course. Yesterday we generated 20.76 KWHs – the best for the month so far – and the m-t-d at 188.81 gained more ground. Looks like it’s going to lose a chunk today though.
There is some kind of blood-sucking bug in my backyard by the birdfeeder that initially doesn’t leave a mark or itch but over the course of several hours develops a “bump” that’s not as big as a mosquito bite but itches a lot – and continues to itch for days. I really didn’t/don’t need that. Sigh.
My son & his wife are back from their grand motorcycle tour vacation – 12 states in 12 days and over 3500 miles. They had a grand time and, other than some bad cross winds on the High Plains and a hailstorm outside Sturgess, a very good and safe ride. They got home Wednesday evening and have now pretty much recovered from the trip.
My friend’s at the family farm. She’ll be back tomorrow evening. So I’m back to doing my own cooking tonight and tomorrow. LOL. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
