Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 13th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. It’s actually not raining, yay! Another nice, calm wfh day. Watching Le Tour — happy to see the Irish rider in yellow, he’s only the 4th ever and the last one was in 1987. The Americans are doing okay, one has been in 5th for most of the race. Going to take early lunch today and go to kickboxing. And that’s all my news.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Right now we are having a literal gully washer complete with lightning that sounds like rifle shots and an artillery barrage. The rain should end by midday and I will get my walk in this afternoon.

    Do you think the Epstein List is being covered up because tRump is on it or because people he wants to blackmail are on it? Seems like saying it is nothing after it has been ginned up in feverish conspiracy mills for 8 years is not going over well. MAGAt on MAGAt hate is good in that it will keep them busy and maybe they will stop destroying the government for a while.

    I am still trying to wrap up a project and get it turned over to the right people. Right now I have scraps of paper and more lists than even an Aries can handle so I better get going on them.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 79 heading for 93/heat index 99, sunny at the moment and the A/C just kicked on. Yesterday we generated 15.41 KWHs and the m-t-d at 237.34 lost a little more ground. I won’t say I’m happy about that but all I have to do is remember last year when we had no generation at all to be satisfied with it.

    Just checked the credit union and my Social Security came in. So I’m going to assume Diana’s (& Suzanne/aashirs nani’s) did too. I’ll hit the credit union for cash later today. Then go to the library for books and to the co-op & grocery store to spend some of that cash. LOL. It’s already hot and will be hotter by the time I do but even though the Subaru doesn’t have working A/C I’ll take it anyway. Need to charge up the battery. And I can recognize it in a parking lot. I can’t always recognize the Honda in a parking lot full of white sedans. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! Ah got mah Social! Isn’t that nice? And Bfitz and presumably aashir’s nanny did too. It’s a nugly day, overcast, humid, and threatening thunderstorms. In fact, all week we’re under threat of thunderstorms.

    I meant to check the garden today but had such a terrible night I couldn’t. Yesterday was very intense, what with Cardiac Rehab in the morning, getting my hair done in the afternoon, and attending the “Open Mic” night last night. Had a very good time, dancing with several of my Drama Club male friends.

    Had terrible leg cramps this morning and felt so tired after breakfast I had to go back to bed. I meant to get so much done today, too! Have several emails to write and a meeting with one of my writers this afternoon.

    Still haven’t even taken my meds. Better get to that and a shower. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  5. Thursday Meese. 76 here in Kingston this morning going up to 91.

  6. Good morning. Did my walk, watching Le Tour. In the office, sigh.

  7. According to the widget it’s 75 heading for 89/heat index 95 but yesterday undershot by almost 10 degrees so we shall see. Yesterday we generated 18.27 KWHs. Not great for this time of year but at least the m-t-d at 255.61 gained a little (very little) ground.

    My friend’s contacts are all snotty as hell but his actions – so far – are those of a person wanting to get this divorce done. And probably remain so as long as he believes it’s all his idea and he’s somehow doing her down. Long may he think so without actually managing to do anything harmful to her. I wish he was working through his lawyer to her lawyer without contacting her directly but hey – I’m still having to remind her to send everything to her attorney and copy her attorney in on any replies she makes. “Normal” people just aren’t used to that.

    Got my errands done yesterday. Actually it wasn’t that bad, even in an unairconditioned car. The house even felt cold when I first got back inside. LOL. Got 4 lbs of taters on to steam while it’s relatively cool. (Yeah, right. The A/C just kicked on. Some cool.) Cooked taters in the fridge are very handy. And I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  8. Good hot steamy Thursday morning, Meese! It’s going up to 95 F. today. Right now it’s 80 F. under hot blue skies.

    It must have rained during the night because there were still raindrops spattering the window screen when I woke up this morning. Last night the cicadas were screaming their disapprovaL of the rain and lightning and are still yammering a bit this morning.

    Can’t believe what’s happening in this country. Just can’t believe it.

    Did a deep dive into the Duck Pond and found that I have angioedema. I’m already taking Allegra every day, so there’s not much more I can do. This morning I’ve got the right thigh pink spaceship swelling and the left bum swelling and itching. It’s just awful. Today I’m going to a fancy lunch at a restaurant I love, like a bit of France in the Virginia countryside. I’ll have to squeeze myself into A Garment so I can fit into a dress. This angioedema causes swelling all over. One of the causes is stress. I’m not aware of particularly having stress other than deadlines.

    Off to toast and cantaloupe, don’t want to eat too much before the upcoming stupefying French lunch! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  9. Good morning, 63 and sunny with a light breeze. I’m making progress with the gardening tasks I want to get done but my old legs need a rest from working on a slope so I’m resting this morning and will stay on level ground this afternoon. Best wishes to all.

  10. Good afternoon, meeses! Thursday …

    A day that started out quiet got filled with Too Much To Do and I missed prime check-in time. The temps are in the low 90s, I saw the first quarter moon in the early morning so that was reassuring after our two day deluge.

    See all y’all tomorrow!!

  11. Friday Meese. Will be 82 and sunny here in Kingston today.

  12. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. We ended up with 3 inches of rain in the foothills from Tuesday night’s and Wednesday morning’s storm – which is unheard of! Everyone was happy except for those caught in the flooding. Looks like we will get more rain early next week. This morning I saw my moon due east over the mountains. She is at about 45% illumination, waning.

    I could not care any less about the Epstein brouhaha. Anyone who doesn’t think that tRump was pals with a disgusting promoter of underaged sex objects has not been paying attention. The MAGAts, when push comes to shove, will back their cult leader. Right now it is distracting from the fact that Congress just defunded NPR and PBS and allowed the Project 2025 architect running OMB to shut down the Department of Education and claw back allocated funds that had been promised to local school districts. We will never recover from the the damage being done to people and institutions and a Democratic President will never have the kind of Congressional majorities he or she would need to undo it. Bastids.

    I am slowly coming out of project immersion mode. Today I will get a haircut and get some personal accounting done to make sure that bills are being paid. I have a short list that I hope to get through so that I know I have everything I need from clients to be productive over the weekend.

    See all y’all later!

  13. Good morning. Skipped the walk, I’ve either irritated my achilles or the stress fracture I had in my heel a while back. either way, my foot said “no” so I listened. Anyway eating breakfast & watching Le Tour. Today is an individual time trial up a mountain. Yesterday was crappy here at work, we are short-staffed and a mean caller made one of my co-workers cry. So I got us some brownies.

  14. It’s 74 going to 94 heat index 100 according to the widget. Overcast. Uncomfortably muggy. Yesterday we generated 11.91 KWHs and the m-t-d at 267.5 lost more ground.

    My friend’s husband sent her the consent decree as it’s currently written yesterday. She immediately forwarded it to her attorney. It pretty much has everything she/we want – which we don’t particularly want him to know. Things go so much better as long as everything is his idea. There are a few errors to be corrected. He got the date of their marriage wrong. Figures, doesn’t it? And even if not she can’t sign it as it stands because her stuff is still in that house. And at some point, prior to the signing I think, the bank needs to be involved to get the mortgage out of her name. But basically things are going well. And hopefully will be over soon.

    The various utility people have been around putting little flags in the empty field next door. The developer who bought the place 2 years ago must have finally come up with a plan for flood abatement that satisfied the City Engineer. (Or else the change in mayors as of January made that moot. Our old mayor was very concerned about not increasing the flooding problem in this neighborhood. The new mayor is a developer.)

    Anyway, lousy night. Sinusitis. Heaven knows what’s in the air, but. . . Sigh. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  15. Good Friday moaning, Moosekind! What are we moaning about today? Well, ’tis another ugly day with overcast skies, high humidity, and heat. Right now it’s 81 F. It may rain. Then again, it may not.

    We’ll probably go shopping as soon as Dearly wakes up from his post-breakfast nap. He had a rotten night. I’m still suffering from the angioedema and will write a note to my doctor about it, although none of that lot—primary physician, allergist, dermatologist, cardiologist—seem able to do anything about it.

    Anyway, I have lots to do as usual, so I’d better get to it! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  16. Saturday Meese. Sunny and going up to 85 here in Kingston.

  17. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon is due east and her light is disappearing quickly!

    I finally have some quiet time to catch up on everything set aside this past week and my list is having things checked off instead of added to! Progress.

    See all y’all later!

  18. Good morning. Slept in, watching Le Tour. Didn’t walk yesterday so I have got to go to kickboxing this morning. It’s a lot easier in the foot than walking. Anyway, happy Saturday to all.

  19. It’s 76 heading for 95 heat index 101 and sunny. At the moment. Yesterday we generated 19.17 KWHs and the m-t-d at 286.7 gained a little ground. Should get over 300 by end of day. IF the sun stays out.

    My friend is out at the family farm with her cat, back tomorrow evening, and I’m stuck with my own cooking the next 2 days. LOL. Funny how fast I got used to somebody else doing the cooking. Heh. (I make the chocolate pudding for dessert though.) Anyway, bathrooms are clean. I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
