Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 27th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! As with Bfitz, today is our last day of Big Heat before the rains are supposed to happen. I hope they do. We’re two inches under normal rainfall for the year. Currently it’s 86 F. in Ashburn, going up into the 90’s.

Yesterday got away completely from me, as I was called into a meeting after lunch. Didn’t get my hair done so will have to do that this morning. The chair of the Drama Club Board needed to vent, so I listened for an hour and a half. Goddess knows I don’t do much else as vice chair, so I was happy to listen. She and I will both be glad when December comes, as our terms on the board will end.

The Steemers steamed for all they were worth yesterday but were unable to remove the blood spots from the carpet—they’re too old. Perhaps we can convince the family that ours is a leopard skin carpet with some of the spots missing. The family are supposed to come over for Dearly’s birthday cake on the 17th.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, today is youngest grandchild’s birthday! He’s 10 years old and an ace lacrosse player. M’Daughter’s birthday is Friday (same as Sister Dee’s), and she’ll be flying to Minneapolis to see Her Son the Doctor. He’s not a physician, though, he holds a Ph.D. in anthropology or something.

Happy to see that eight of the university board picks by Gubernator Dumbkin will not be allowed to stay in their roles. Also, apparently it would take an act by Congress to rename the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Good. Assuming we’ll still have elections and that Dems get in, will it take the first four years of the new POTUS’ term to reverse everything Dirtbag has done?

I don’t know. If only aliens would swoop down and remove him, J.D., Goebbels, and Bibi. That would help so much! And in the meantime, I wish a good day to all at the Pond.

  2. Good morning, 58 and sunny outside my windows today. I got cortisone injections in both knees yesterday so the raw pain has eased but I can’t put full weight on my legs yet. I was able to do some garden watering last night but it’s clear I need to me more careful re hardening on a slope. Bri will be here today so I hope the drip watering system will be ready to use soon.
I also had a frank talk with the ortho doc re the progressive nature of arthritis and he suggests cortisone injections every 3 months. The risk of frequent use of cortisone is joint damage but mine are essentially gone so now it’s time to preserve mobility. I also requested a new PT referral so that may help. Best wishes to all.

  3. Much cooler here in Kingston today –yay!

  4. Good morning. In the office, walk done. Woke up about 35 times last night, so I took 2 caffeine pills. Don’t know if that’ll help. Anyway, hi.

  5. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 100. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. There are a lot of clouds right now but nothing that will produce rain.

It was a disappointing WNBA day for me – all three teams I was rooting for, lost. I am glad my team no longer has to go to Indiana where the most racist disgusting fans in the world create a toxic atmosphere. Garbage people who found a venue that lets them fly their MAGAt freak flag.

I have a busy offline day today. Best to all at the Moose Pond!

    See all y’ll tomorrow.

  6. It’s 76 heading for 88/heat index 94 overcast, breezy, and we may get some rain today. Yesterday we generated 18 KWHs and the m-t-d at 510 has already passed 5 other years of production. So even though we won’t get anywhere near the highest production years (561 & 562) even if we generate diddly today – as looks likely – July’s total is good.

The at-home euthanasia place that had Earicicle/Amelia’s cat Winston “expedited” his cremation after I talked to them Tuesday. I guess the magic words were “She’s disabled and he was her support cat”. Because she got a call yesterday morning saying they’d get him back to her as soon as they could, a few days at most (not the original 10 days to 2 weeks), they called her again several hours later wo come pick up his ashes. So “Winston” is home and she is calming down/starting to Heal. So that’s a spark of good in a sea of evil.

    Meanwhile, my back is not getting any better. I’ve got ice on it now. I may have to give up and call my old chiropractor. If she’s still in business. And see if she can work me in. It’ll be cash because she’s not on my insurance provider list but at least she’s got my records and knows my back. But not yet. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  7. Good Thursday morning, Moosekind! It’s 85 F. on its way up to 90+ in Ashburn this morning. The blue is covered by a white haze of cloud. Bfitz, that’s wonderful that your system generated more than 500! Yay!

“They” say 1 p.m. is when the thunderstorms will start. At least, that’s what they’re predicting. Uh huh, uh huh. Will believe it when I see it.

Went down to the garden early to pick some Mexican tariff-free tomatoes, and saw a fellow resident picking flowers for the DiversiTea this afternoon. I’m meeting my friend there, and have promised her a couple of tomatoes. I shall wear a hat, a midi-dress, and possibly lace gloves. Dearly’s going to the dentist in the hope his new set of upper teeth is ready.

Have almost finished writing the monologue! I’m so tired of it. Have a couple more paragraphs to add and then I’m just sending it, lock, stock, and barrel to the actress who wants it. I feel I never want to read anything about the Civil War again.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the article about our community music man is just about complete—a whole month before deadline, if you please. Now all I have to work on is an article about the astronomy club and a couple of Reader Theater plays for the Drama Club.

Busy day ahead—wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  8. Good morning, 60 and sunny in Bellingham today. Ron finally has all his data restored, yay! It was expensive, so he will now take a few classes so he will know more re preventing this from happening again. The drip sprinkling system is half working, but Hans needs to do some work so the feeder hose can safely cross a sidewalk and then she can finish the other side. Progress! Best wishes to all.
