Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 81 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. Had a lovely time yesterday at my annual women’s gathering.

Good morning. Stupid Saharan dust or allergies or something had me feeling bad yesterday & I didn’t go to kickboxing – seemed like a bad idea when I was sneezing my head off. Today, I’ve made my tea, later I’ll make 2 week’s worth of lunch. Maybe I’ll go to the gym this afternoon…..
It’s 70 heading for 84 and one last Lammas-tide August day dry enough that no heat index. It was sunny when I got up and is mostly sunny now but the widget says clouds are moving in. No rain, just clouds. Yesterday we generated 17.91 KWHs so our not-on-track m-t-d at 24 gained a little. We’ll see what today brings.
I kept promising myself/my back that I wouldn’t vacuum today but there was just too much cat fluff around. I compromised – didn’t do the bedrooms or bathrooms but did the living room and kitchen/dining/den room where most of the cat fluff was. That’s about 2/3 of the house. My back still isn’t happy with me. I could see that I’ve had a minor relapse in the healing progress I’d been making. So. Ibu and ice.
Eating my oatmeal and heading out to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Sunday afternoon, Moosekind! We’re having a another glorious day here in Ashburned, 77 F. even at this hour of the afternoon (nearly tea time, it’s 2:55 p.m.). Low humidity and blue sky with dreamlike, puffy white clouds…a bit like a painting by Constable.
Have just popped a load of laundry in, kept an an eye on the race between chores. Today I hope to get a lot of writing done: put the finishing touches on one article and two Reader Theater plays, one email to my writers, one letter to my sister-in-law, and drafting questions for a second article that’s due September 1.
GUESS WHAT! Hardly any itching! There’s a little bit on my ears, but a swipe with the Cortisone roll-on will take care of that. Not itching and scratching is like having a vacation!
I prepared breakfast and lunch, but Dearly will do the dinner. He’s going to grill steak and cook corn on the cob. I’ve bought a strawberry cake from Trader Joe’s, which is happily thawing in the fridge as I write.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Great news about the itching (or lack thereof)! I hope it lasts!!!
Monday Meese. Lovely weather here in Kingston. Congrats to Jan for the big win by her home team yesterday.

It was a good day for the Phoenix Mercury and the New York Liberty. It was too bad that the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever won. Whoever draws them in the post-season is going to have to be smudged when they return from Indianapolis. The toxic fumes of the white supremacist dudebros screaming their hatred will need serious remediation! I feel sad for the regular Indiana Fever fans, those who cheered on Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings and the early Fever players, having to sit next to the racists and haters. I am hoping that the Clark hype has worn off enough so that when the Fever visits Phoenix this week that the stands are not filled with the fans of racism and hate like last year. It was like playing an away game for our team. :(
Yup – my Liberty did great. I couldn’t bear to watch the Fever game.
Good morning, meeses! Monday, Barack Obama’s Birthday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Temperatures of 104 to 108 expected this week with the possibility of rain by the weekend unless favorable monsoon winds send us something sooner. The valley floor will likely hit the 110s this week but it is cooler where I live near the foothills.
I am going to go news light again as I have many things to do today as I emerge from my staycation which runs through today. I need to prep for some projects that begin tomorrow morning so that I can shut down and go back offline and spend one more day deadline free. I have to get one accounting thing done this morning then I am done.
See all y’all later!
My favorite BHO recent toon
My morning LOL
I am so proud of my State Representative and the other brave Texas Dems. James Talarico has been getting more press, since he’s getting ready to run for a higher office, but Gina Hinojosa is just as awesome. Anyway, here’s Texas in news again.
It’s 65 heading for 86 heat index 90 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 14.61 and the m-t-d at 38.6 lost a little more ground.
Yesterday the house was cool enough I not only steamed 3 lbs of potatoes in the morning (all that would fit in the pot), I baked the other lb as potato wedges in the evening AND simmered the carcass of the rotisserie chicken my son brought me for stock. The last was a bit much. The kitchen got up to 84. But the rest of the house was still 73 so it worked out.
Today is likely to be the last A/C free day for a while. Like the rest of the August. Maybe tomorrow as the overnight is supposed to be 64 one more time. But the temps are moving up to 90 & above with overnights in the 70s and by Wednesday for sure we’ll be back to staying closed up and A/C on. But it’s been/being a lovely Lammas-tide respite.
I’ll need to close up in about an hour. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Another gorgeous day has dawned with cloudless skies. Our high today will be 87 F. and clouds are supposed to move in, but when I went to the garden early this morning it was in the low 60’s, more like September than August.
The garden is not doing well. I trimmed off all the dead leaves, picked a few ripe Mexican tariff-free tomatoes, and watered everything. I’ve been looking for signs of an early fall but haven’t seen many.
My BFF is coming over at 11 to help me make labels for my August Reader Theater play, “Auditions.” Each of the eight actors will wear a label around their necks. At the end of the play, a messenger will call out the numbers of the two who are chosen for the lead male and female roles.
It looks as if I’ll have to go a couple of banks as well this afternoon. Younger Son wants a loan, which he swears he will pay back in two months. He’d better, as the only cash savings I have are his children’s high school class trip funds.
Well, that’s enough from me. The news is nothing but bad. I can’t let myself think about it because that way lies despair. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Forgot to say that last night I walked up to the fountain at the end of the lawn, started chatting with two Drama Club members, and saw a lovely, gold half-moon hanging up there. First time I’ve seen Her in ages!
Good morning, 62 and cloudy in Bellingham. The nasty covid symptoms are easing but not gone so both Ron and I are still sick so that’s the not so good news. Better news is that I can use my left leg again so the cortisone is helping. It still hurts to walk but I can stand using that leg so welcome progress. I’ve got to do a few desk, laundry and garden chores today but I’ll rest in between. Best wishes to all.
Oh, princesspat, I’m so sorry to hear that you and RonK have Covid! Wishing you both swift healing!
Good morning. Happy Tuesday. Proud of my state rep. Not much else going on.
Good gray Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 70 F. and overcast in Ashburger today, and likely to remain so. The high will be 81 F. I don’t mind its being overcast as long as it results in rain, but it won’t. I shall not be able to see Her tonight. Never mind, She’ll be full on August 9.
Today I have Cardiac Rehab in the morning and a Cast Call this afternoon. Auditions are next Monday.
Ours is a weird family. Elder Son proudly texted a picture of his breakfast this morning, which included tomatoes from his garden (fine), slices of hard-boiled egg (yechh), and avocado toast. Told him I use mashed avocados as cold cream (not true, but a good story).
I have to call Transportation to find out how many round-trip rides I have left. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing to Princesspat and Ron!
It’s 66 heading for 92 with heat index 95 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 16.61 KWHs and the m-t-d at 55.19 gained a (very) little. We shall see what today brings.
I’ll need to close up the house within the hour. Temps are rising fast. And when I do, I’ll turn the A/C back on. It’ll be nice if it doesn’t come on today, but I’m not betting on it. But we’ve had a lovely Lammas-tide gift of 3 whole days with the A/C off and 4 whole nights with the house open. Now back to August. We haven’t hit the “dog days” yet.
My friend is staying with another friend at Cancer House (or actually whatever motel Cancer House is using this month, they rotate) who’s getting a new port today. But she stopped by long enough yesterday to bring me a bunch of stuff – a new and larger cold compress, a couple of different roll-on pain relievers, and some generic “flo-nase” to see if that will help my sinusitis. Bless her. She’s a very caring person.
Sending out lots of Healing Energy to everybody, right now especially to princesspat & RonK to get over the Covid ASAP and without “long Covid” – they’ve got enough health issues already. Now I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning Meese. The decent weather continues to hold – until tomorrow when we go back to rain here in Kingston.

Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 90 degrees on its way up to 104, 108 at the airport. I shall stay indoors!
I am cutting down on computer time and finished for the day about an hour ago. The project that consumed me for 6 months is ramping down and I just have a few loose ends to tie off. They can be done at my pace.
See all y’all later!
Good afternoon, 63 and cloudy outside my windows today. Thanks for the healing wishes Diania……we’re getting better but this is a nasty virus so we’ve still got symptoms. Our son is working here today, fixing the ramp down from the garage so it’s safer to use and getting some downspout extensions in place so the gutters can be cleaned. Elsa has decided I need all of her well chewed toys beside me, makes her feel good so why not :) Best wishes to all.
Good morning. Didn’t exercise yesterday, did get a lot of work done. I may have a training that will complicate my early lunch to exercise (I should have paid more attention when I had my work stuff open), but I’ll try really hard. Very proud of my rep & the other Texas Dems.
I hope that your governor can’t remove the entire Democratic caucus from their offices without something more than an executive order and his bought and sold Supreme Court. I am not sure anymore what power people have to destroy democracy – I am stunned every day to find out just how vulnerable we are to the autocratic impulses of our electeds.
TX guv, like the AR guv, has very few powers. No, he can’t remove elected officials. At all. I’m pretty sure the lege could impeach them. If they had a quorum to do anything at all. And they might, should they get such a quorum soon.
