Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 82 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 108. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The weather people still have rain (and cooling!) in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday but hot until then. There was some rain over the mountains yesterday which is important. The moon was in the SE sky last night, waxing towards a full moon on August 9th. Tomorrow I will see her from my office window in the early morning.
I thank the goddess that tRump did not realize he had the power to destroy all medical research and vaccinations in 2020 or he would have killed all of us. Cancelling funding of mRNA vaccination research is reckless but what else is new? Dr. Oz, tRump’s CMS head, said that 2 or 3% of the population dying from COVID would be no big deal. Perhaps it would have been a big deal to the tens of millions protected by COVID mRNA vaccines and still here :::raises hand:::. The Republican Party owns this – every bit of it – and the millions who will die because of diseases that can be avoided. I hope that people in Europe and Canada and Mexico can pick up the slack until sanity returns to our country.
My WNBA team won last night but it had some scary moments. I had to go to bed at halftime since it would end past my bedtime (I can watch the second half today). The Racist Enabling Indiana Fever was defeated in Los Angeles by the Sparks. Now they come to Phoenix where I hope the Mercury can do the same. No organization that enables racism and misogyny and homophobia should have success in anything.
I am still working at my own pace but the grumbling from the clients whose work was set aside over the past month is getting louder so I may have to ramp things up a bit. Or perhaps I will deal with that mañana.
See all y’all later!
Congrats Jan – watched your Mercury win. (my Liberty did too) Cloudy and 80 today here in Kingston.
Puerto Rico
Depending on which widget I look it, it’s either 67 or 73. Either way it’s heading for 94, heat index 99, and sunny. Slightly breezy at the moment and other than the humidity rather pleasant outside. Yesterday we generated 18.85 KWHs and the m-t-d at 74 gained ground and is almost on track for 450. We shall see what today brings.
I’ve caught brief glimpses of the moon these last several nights – after 3 weeks of not seeing her at all – but she’s far enough south in the sky the trees across the way hide her most of the time. But brief glimpses are better than no glimpses and she’s beautiful as always.
Back’s bothering me. No news there. I’m icing it. Doing my best to get it to fix itself. I really do not want to go to a chiropractor. Old or new. I don’t want anybody breathing on my head from less than arm’s length (or even from arm’s length). I know darned well that if they mask at all it’ll be one of those blue surgical masks. Great for bacteria. Lousy for viruses.
Anyway, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind. Yet another ugly day, overcast and humid. Currently the temperature in Ashburger is 72 F., going up to 80 F. At least we won’t faint from heat exhaustion.
We had fresh peaches and baby pancakes for breakfast. (Trader Joe’s doesn’t have grown-up pancakes unless they’re gluten free.) Finished filling out a Medicare form.
THE ITCHING HAS STARTED AGAIN on my stomach, so just put some cortisone cream on it. Gawd, it was so nice not having it for a few days. My body is clearly trying to tell me something, but no one in the medical profession is getting the message. My doctor will see me at 1 p.m. Monday, which is fine. Could be a flare-up of the ovary, could be cancer of the lymph nodes. Hope not, because the 1,000s of meds I’m taking for the cardiac thing are already too much.
Enough griping. Going to take myself to the gym before my podiatry appointment at noon. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 63 and cloudy in Bellingham. I could hear and smell rain last night so I hope the garden got a good soaking. I watered a few plants yesterday and was surprised with how dry the soil is, summer is fading fast. It’s been a week of covid now so I hope we are in recovery mode. Best wishes to all.
Thursday Meese. 67 here in Kingston going up to a sunny 80.
Puerto Rico/Puerto Ricans
Deeply saddened
They are refusing to let Congressional Democrats into Detention Facilities in Arizona also. Bastids.
Good morning. Did my walk even though it’s 80 degrees. Depressing temperature for 5:30 am.
Depending on the widget it’s either 65 or 73 (I’m betting on 73) heading up to 95/heat index 100, and sunny. Yesterday we generated 16.69 KWHs and that was just enough gain to bring the m-t-d to 90 and on track for 450. We’ll see how long that lasts.
While I’ve been able for the last week to catch glimpses of Herself through the trees in the southern sky, last night we had clouds so no moon. Or at least no moon I could see. Of course she’s always there. Which is a comfort.
My friend’s home as of last night and said her husband has agreed to all the changes she wanted in the consent divorce document except the one thing she’d added to protect him. Doesn’t it figure. So the next step is to run the “final” by both lawyers before submitting it to a judge. Not sure where the meeting with the bank comes in – before or after the decree is signed – but it needs to come in there soon. She’s still paying the mortgage on what is now his house.
Saw a neighborhood cat go into one of the construction crew equipment trailers. Went out and told the pickup truck driver to check his trailer before he closed up and left for the day to be sure he wasn’t taking a neighborhood cat with him. He laughed and said, “Yes, ma’am“.
Meanwhile, I’ve just closed up the house for the day and need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Thursday morning, Meese! We have actual sunlight this morning. When I went down to garden earlier, the air was quite cool. The tomatoes are ugly, but I picked them anyway, since I don’t have to pay tariffs on them.
Right now it’s 71 F. in Ashburn, going up to 81 F. Naturally, with the smoke-overcast sky that prevailed all day yesterday, I did not see Her lovely self, but perhaps tomorrow or Saturday.
Re Epstein: Why not ask the WOMEN? Why aren’t they allowed to speak?
I itched and scratched all night in my sleep. Anyone who happened to be watching might assume I have lice. UGH! Woke up with a quail egg-sized pink, itchy bump in the crook of my left elbow. Will take a shower and see if that helps the itching at all. The doctor has put off the appointment until Wednesday morning.
Going to have lunch with my English friend. Haven’t seen her for a while.
Got to totally run. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good afternoon, meeses! Thursday …
It is 108 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 109. Mostly sunny skies. When I got into my black car after my dentist appointment, the car’s thermometer (sitting in the hot sun) showed 117!
I am running late because of early morning work projects that had to be done before my teeth cleaning. Now I am home and will have lunch and then be a bum.
See all y’all later!
Friday Meese. Will be a nice 80 today. Spent the day yesterday with company helping Nad celebrate his 26th priesthood anniversary, and also got to watch some women’s basketball – Jan’s team crushed the white supremacy supported Fever. (Jan – loved the DeWanna Bonner payback)
Puerto Rico
DeWanna Bonner and her teammates had the only sort of “payback” they wanted – a resounding victory and complete vindication. That the Mercury gave a video tribute of her time in Phoenix to Racist Enabling Fever Player Sophie Cunningham, who has been dissing the organization and all the players since she left, was all you needed to know about which organization cares about people and which enable the worst of the worst.
We watched the game twice. Cheering!
More cars here than usual before 6am, wonder if they’re expecting something. They’re not supposed to gavel in till this afternoon. Hmmmmm. Anyway, I did my walk. 80 degrees.
It’s 75 heading for 96, heat index 104, and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 18.46 KWHs and the m-t-d at 119.1 is on track and gaining.
Earicicle/Amelia is devastated over the loss of Winston. Not a term I use lightly. He was her support cat. Another term I don’t use lightly. With him around she felt loved. No matter how many human friends have abandoned her as her disabilities/chronic illnesses have progressively gotten worse, he purred and slept on her head and gave her a reason to get up. With him she felt joy in life. Now she feels only pain and sorrow. And guilt, because she blames herself for not being able to save him. (And wonders if she’ll ever be able to get another animal because she no longer trusts the vets who either didn’t notice or didn’t care that Winston was really sick until it was so bad she had to let him go.) Prayers up for her Healing would be good.
I had a very rocky night. Sinusitis. I don’t think the Flo-nase is doing any good and it may be doing the opposite. But I’ll give it the full week’s trial before I give up. Meanwhile, I need to go get milk while it’s still relatively cool, then get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Sending prayers.
Bless you.
Just popping in to say hello to my beloved Meese before I have to run off to Cardiac Rehab. I was MISERABLE all day from the itching, redness, and swelling, which has now spread to my left mammary gland. Have a doctor appointment at 1:30 with a male doctor I have never seen before, but hey, a doctor is a doctor. Will let you know what happens. Later!
Hope he is able to help Sis!
{{{Diana}}} Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good luck!
Good morning, 65 and sunny outside my windows today. Our son and Elsa were here yesterday so all her favorite toys are now my my bed, ready for fun :) And the ramp going up to the garage is being fitted with narrow non slip treads so it will be safer to use. He has to make the treads, cover them with the non slip material, and then screw them to the concrete so it’s a fiddly process but needs to be done.
Covid symptoms are still lingering but I’m not as sick as I was so that’s progress. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 95 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Last night I saw the full-ish moon in the SSE sky and this morning the setting moon was just about to go below the buildings in the SW. I saw her, watched for about 5 minutes and then she was gone. She is full overnight tonight at 12:54am MST. Tomorrow morning also looks like we will finally return to morning lows in the 70s, something we have not seen for several weeks. Our hottest time is July 15th to August 15th and we are getting close to more normal hot desert temperatures.
I stayed up late to watch my WNBA team reduce the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever team to rubble with a 35 point win. I am going to go watch the defining 3rd period again now that I have finished my morning work.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. Lovely weather here today in Kingston
Puerto Rico
Covering today in Caribbean Matters (I’m pissed that thousands of people without potable water was not major news):
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 100. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning when I first awakened, I could see the stars but there were some scattered clouds over the mountains. When I checked for my full moon in the SW sky, I could see her light but not her form as she was behind some clouds. About 10 minutes later, I heard rain and went to the back to check the wash and smell the desert rain. It only lasted about 3 minutes but it was glorious. I did see the complete moonrise last night over the Santa Catalina mountains. The sight will never cease to amaze me – first the glow, then the first bright white bit of the moon shows, then she rises and clears the mountaintop, all in about 5 minutes.
I will go news light today as the insanity makes my head hurt. If the tRump Administration succeeds in forcing public universities to pay extortion to get their blocked research grants flowing again that will be terrible. Now I hear the the federal government is claiming that they can “take” Harvard’s private patents which I hope to hell is illegal but with this SCOTUS, who knows? What is it about Republicans that makes them hate intelligent people and scientific research so much that they are willing to destroy the source of incredible scientific and technological breakthroughs that have made our lives better in so many ways. Do they want everyone to be as stupid and small minded as they are? I suppose ignorant people are easier to control. :(
In Tucson, sanity prevailed and the city council cancelled an Amazon data center project that would use our drinking water and our limited energy resources – literally our future sustainability – in exchange for 180 jobs. Building anything in the desert that needs water is stupid and I hope none of the other municipalities in the region decide to accommodate the tech bros who live for the moment and don’t give a damn about the earth or her people.
I have many things to do today and I best get back to them so that I can get off my computer and do something fun this weekend.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Slept in (sorta), watching local news. Later I’ll go to kickboxing, pick up groceries, start cooking for next week, and tonight there’s the music diary – I’m not hosting, just participating.
It’s 77 heading for 96, heat index 106, and sunny. So far anyway. Yester
