Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 73 heading for 92 heat index 96 and overcast but clearing. At the moment. Yesterday we generated 18 KWHs and the m-t-d at 194 is on track and gained a little. Unless it clouds up again we’ll go over the 200 mark today.
Yesterday would have been a lovely day to hang out clothes except. . . my back would have protected loudly, the construction guys started at 8, and the clouds didn’t clear off until 10:30. There may be ways to work around my back issues and the rest of the week is supposed to be less cloudy (not that yesterday really was cloudy except in the morning when I’d have had to trustingly hung out the clothes by 10), but there’s nothing I can do about the bare-dirt construction site next door (west is the windward side). My friend can’t do it until tomorrow, but I’ll run the washer while we have dinner then she’ll schlep the heavy clothes basket to the laundromat for/with me. Since I do laundry every other week, there should only be 2 more laundry days before it’s cool enough to hang things in front of a fire.
Basket’s on vacation in Utah, of all places, and Earicicle/Amelia is still in deep mourning for her cat Winston. I hope she can get another cat soon. She won’t mourn Winston any less but she’ll have an emotional foundation again.
Got to figure out how to do a slow-cooker type pork roast on the stovetop since my friend’s husband changed the locks and was carefully not there at the time she’d texted she was coming by to get her clothes and a few other “necessaries”. The jerk. So she couldn’t pick up the Instapot we’d planned to cook the roast in. Oh well. People did slow cooking long before slow cookers and Instapots were invented. Meanwhile, I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday…
Another day that has gotten completely away from me. It is 100 degrees here in Tucson and I am sitting in the oil change place getting a (slightly overdue) oil change.
I over scheduled myself after taking time away and now I am paying the price.
See all y’all later!
Good afternoon, 71 and sunny in Bellingham today. RonK picked more blackberries this morning, but I’ve been grounded so I’m restless. I’ll do a few things with Bri this afternoon but my left leg is painfully hard to use so I’ll be careful. Last evening I was reading outside and the nighttime patio was lovely, a reminder to feel more gratitude and less frustration! Best wishes to all.
Thursday Meese. 71 here in Kingston going up to a muggy 86.
Puerto Rico
Thursday. Ugh. In the office, did my walk/run. One of my moles was bleeding, I’ll call the dermatologist when they open. Playing happy, energetic music in my head.

It’s 72 heading for 96, heat index 103, and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 17.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 211.5 is on track and gaining.
Did the laundry last night after all. My friend had errands to run so she took it to the laundromat to dry while she did them. Her husband is still being a jerk. Expects her to sign a divorce paper giving him sole ownership of the house before he pays off the mortgage that’s in her name. Expects her to sign a divorce paper saying each party retains possession of whatever property in their possession while her belongings are in his possession. And thinks a mixture of magnanimity & offensiveness will manipulate her into doing so. At this point they are both on the title and the mortgage is in her name. So no, not signing that. At this point he has her clothing, the bits of furniture her 1st husband built, her harps, her mother’s sewing machine, and the kitchen equipment her 1st husband gave her. Nope, not signing those away either. But it’s delaying things. She’s still paying the mortgage on the house he’s living in. And changed the locks on.
Cloud doesn’t seem any worse but he doesn’t seem any better either. Hope I get something definitive from Dr. Wright on Saturday. Something treatable. Meanwhile, I just closed up the house and I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93. If that holds, it will be our first daytime high below 100 for a very long time. Chance of rain today, higher chance of rain tomorrow. Last night the clouds massed over the farther off mountains and gave us a lightning show but no rain here.
I continue to be horrified by what the Republican Party is allowing to happen to America. They must really despise us to be willing to destroy the country they pretend to love because they hate the majority of Americans – women, people of color, immigrants, non-christians. If they succeed in gerrymandering a majority in the House of Representative for 2026, I am not sure what the future holds for us. All I can do now is try to hold things together for the people close to me and pray that we can wait them out.
I finally have a controllable schedule and am plodding through my to do list.
See all y’all later!
Friday Meese – spent hours and hours yesterday with tech support trying to get my printer to work – no go :( Now have to wait till a tech person can come to the house at the end of this month.
Puerto Rico
“The singer and percussionist Zayra Pola, daughter of Olga Espinosa and Polito Ocasio, sang the National Anthem of Puerto Rico at a sporting event. And with the accompaniment of her güiro, watch and listen to her sensational performance of “La Borinqueña.” Let’s make it go viral!”
With all the advances in technology, printer connections still suck. I have been working in tech support for over 50 years and I still break into a sweat when I unpack a new printer and connect it to my network. There is no Plug and Play, it is always difficult. Good luck!
Good morning. Woke up at 3:50, sigh. Having caffeine pills with my breakfast. Did my walk, ran a little bit.
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s 75 F. already in Ashburn on a fairish day. We won’t get any rain, and we’re 3 inches under for the year to date. Highs today will be all the eights.
I have not stopped RUNNING like a herd of wild buffalo since the morning of August 13, when I cooked one of his favorite breakfasts for Dearly. The rest of the day and yesterday were equally horrendous. This morning I have cardiac rehab, after which I’ll come home and take a much-needed nap. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I have been offered (and accepted) the role of Diane in the new Drama Club play this fall, and I managed to round up eight actors for my Reader Theater play tomorrow during the Drama Club meeting.
Got to get going. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
It’s 76 and the A/C kicked on already, heading for 98/heat index 106, and sunny. Yesterday we generated 16.5 KWHs which is not enough to cover a day using A/C but with the m-t-d at 228 is on track for the monthly goal.
Today’s the last day of registration – classes start Monday – so things are stressful at work for my friend. On top of the divorce crap. I’m so glad I’m retired. (And did my divorce 47 years ago.) The boosting, which I’m about to start for the day, is sometimes overwhelming and often depressing, but it’s nothing like the pressure of school starting even without a divorce. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 60 and raining in Bellingham today. I’ve been icing my leg, trying to not take an unsupported step with it, and changing how high I elevate. It’s all a pita so I’m grouchy but pleased it seems to be helping. I’m glad it’s raining today, gives me a needed rest from watering the plants. I do want to cut a few hydrangeas before the rain makes the blooms to heavy so I’ll do that when the rain lets up. I’m going news light today so I hope the bad guys behave without my oversight :) Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 84 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast with a chance for rain this afternoon. Last night there was some lightning in the lower valley but none up here. This morning’s walk was a comfortable 81 but a little damper than I like.
I hope Washington DC gets some relief from the courts but Bernie Sanders’ SCOTUS is not likely to deny their king anything he wants. :(
I was busy this morning prepping for a weekend of catching up on work projects. I needed to make sure I had everything I need – I think I do.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. It’s going to be 84 today here in Kingston. Watched a lot of women’s basketball last night.

Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Very late last night I saw the light of the moon starting to rise over the cloudy mountaintops. This morning she was bright in the sky with her light on my deck. I had to crane my neck to see around the edge of the roof to view the moon herself – it is always comforting to know that some things are steady and certain.
I watched some women’s basketball games and took a pass on others. I knew how the Mercury game would end (based on what Coach Doofus said about how he planned to wreck the good things about the team) and had no interest in going to bed upset by the outcome. I watched the end of the Mystics vs the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever game and was pleased by that result. I could root for the Mystics, they are fun to watch and their players seem nice. I watched the Valkyries play the Sky and was sad about what happened to Chicago but pleased to see the Valkyries win. They seem to be a well run, well coached organization with good players who want to win and aren’t jerks. I could definitely root for them. I am enjoying that my MLB club, the Milwaukee Brewers, extended their winning streak to 13 games last night with a come from behind 10 to 8 win after they had been down 8 to 1 after 2 innings. Small market club, lots of contributors are guys picked up off the scrap heap and turned into a team. The coach of the club spend 25 years coaching in college baseball and is very much a teacher and a guy who understands how players struggle and works with them. I wonder if his style will become emulated based on his success? In any event, the Brewers were left for dead after the first month and a half of the season, have had a remarkable turnaround and are fun to watch again.
I have some loose ends to tie off on the project I just spent close to a half a year on. I want to make sure that everything is well documented so that I can archive the details of that project and move on.
See all y’all later!

It’s 77 heading for 98/heat index 106, and sunny but graying skies. It’s supposed to be sunny all day. We shall see. Yesterday certainly wasn’t. We generated 11.62 KWHs. The m-t-d at 239.69 is still on track but lost ground.
My friend’s lawyer said to sign. He said when the judge signs to end the marriage he’s also putting the force of the Court behind the settlement. If her then ex doesn’t hold to them – let her get her stuff and take over/pay off the mortgage so it’s no longer in her name – she goes back to the judge and her ex gets hit with Contempt of Court. So she did. But she also request that she be able to get her clothing & harps sooner and then make an appointment to get the rest after the final decree. We shall see what we shall see on that too.
Taking my kitty Cloud to the vet this afternoon. He’s eating, drinking, & eliminating but he’s also losing fur. I’m not sure how long but definitely over a week. But the bald patch is on the inside of his left hind leg so I only saw it last weekend. One more we shall see.
Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. I’m hosting the Saturday music diary tonight at the orange place. My theme is music honoring the awesome Texas House Democrats who walked out and stopped the special session. Yes, Gov. Abbott called another one — but Gene Wu said timing is important and having this 2nd session appears to be to our advantage in challenging the evil maps they pass.
Anyway, come by this evening, 6pm central and bring your rebellious, “not backing down” songs. I already used the Patti Smith one, a cover of Tom Petty, and some others. You’ll be so surprised to see U2 there. lol
Good Saturday morning, Meese! Two hours from now I have to start getting my actors in order. It’s 11:07 a.m. Woke up this morning to the delightful sight of raindrops on the window pane. (I reverently thanked Goddess that I didn’t put the porch cushions out last evening—no one predicted rain.) Went out and listened to the sound of it falling. I wouldn’t say it was passionate, but it was nice and steady for a few minutes. The current temp. in Ashburned is 81 F., going for a high of 91 F.
Went to Cardiac Rehab yesterday. Dear Goddess and l’il infant Osiris, it was boring! Well, there’s only another 100 years left of these twice-weekly sessions. The August 8 session in ankle weights is still making its painful presence felt. My blood pressure monitor that I’m supposed to use at home gives me readings of 177/95. At C.R. when the nurse took it, it was 121 over 60-something. I should jolly well think so with all the exercise I get and the feelthy meds I’m taking!
Got to put some makeup on before I pick up the sandwiches from the Deli. Wishing a good day to all the Pond. Hope princesspat and A.D. feel better. The sun has now come out, so that’s good! Later!
