Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 73 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 93. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. We’re under another heat advisory here in Kingston.
Watched my New York Liberty beat themselves yesterday. Sigh.
Puerto Rico
It’s difficult to win without your star player. You’ll still get a good seed for the playoffs.
True. Though I’m a Liberty fan – this year my motto is “anyone except Indiana”
Ha!!
Drats – Mercury v Valks isn’t on till 10PM EDT- I’ll have to watch a replay tomorrow
Good morning. Last night’s music diary went well. So much great music. Now I have my tea steeping, watching the news, got to make lunch and cook some vegetables later. My brother gave me a Grubhub gift certificate, I got Caribbean food, it was good – the plantains were awesome.

It’s 83 heading for 98/heat index 108, and sunny at the moment. We keep getting afternoon clouds – no rain of course, just clouds – cutting into the daily electricity production. Yesterday we generated 14.9 KWHs at a time of year we could easily generate 20. IF the sky were clear. The m-t-d is 254.8 – still on track for 450 but lost a little more ground.
I was very relieved by the vet visit. Apparently when Cloud was out almost 3 weeks ago – that laundry day he went through the hole in the fence and disappeared for 4 hours – he got into something or other and developed a staph infection on his skin. Inner back leg so I didn’t notice until he’d lost enough fur for the bald spot to show when he lies on my lap a certain way. Anyway, they gave him an antibiotic injection that’s supposed to last 2 weeks and an antibiotic ointment to apply twice a day for 2 weeks. Otherwise he’s in pretty good health for an almost 15 y.o. kitty.
Did the vacuuming this morning and my back isn’t any more upset with me than usual. I’ve done Ibu and IcyHot and I’d best do ice as well, but I’m mostly OK. Meanwhile, need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, 62 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I’m still sick but thanks to meds breathing easier. I’ll go to the ortho walk in clinic tomorrow re the relentless pain and numbness in my left leg. I don’t expect I’ll have relief but I would like to know what is happening and how to best manage. Best wishes to all.

Monday Meese. Coolish temps here in Kingston today (Yay). Congrats Jan re Mercury win.
Puerto Rico
It was a scary game! Thomas got another triple double and the bad coach finally played Lexie Held who is a great player off the bench who has been kept there for some unknown reason. I wouldn’t mind playing someone easy for a break but easy teams are getting more difficult to find!
Good morning. Today should be interesting, the House Dems are coming back. As small and petty as the leadership is, I’m sure they have something planned to embarrass them. This country, and my state, are run by 12 year old boys.
:(
It’s 76 heading for 99/heat index 109, and sunny. At the moment. Yesterday we generated 14.99 KWHs and the m-t-d at 269.54 lost a little more ground. But we’re still on track for over 450 to that part’s good.
Welp, my friend’s husband got around to showing his true colors (again) after a long-ish spate of faking being reasonable. And her attorney’s bored attitude about a “consent” divorce bore its predictable fruit. She signed the papers and sent them to her husband. He got everything he wanted. She waived her rights to just about everything except, including if I read the waiver correctly her right to question him. Signed the Decree electronically, signed the waiver physically (AND notarized). His response? To run through the thesaurus and pack an email with every synonym for “duplicity”, declare she hadn’t signed the obviously signed papers, and threaten to sic his sister’s attack-dog law firm on her and drag out everything for a year or more. (While of course she continues to pay the mortgage on the house she owns but has no access to.) She’s going to see how her current attorney responds to that today. Unfortunately he does have her bankruptcy in his care (inherited from another firm when the owner retired) so she doesn’t want to antagonize him. But she’s also planning calling another law firm if he doesn’t have a fairly fire-and-brimstone reaction.
Meanwhile the rest of the world is still awful and people still need help with food, meds, hygiene, rent, & utilities. So I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
The “except” above isn’t supposed to be there – I was thinking of an except, except I realized that no, she’d signed that away too.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind!
‘Tis a nugly, overcast day here. Might have to wear a sweater or something when I meet my friend at La Mad at noon. Right now in Ashburn it’s 71 F., going up to 75 F. Yesterday evening, JUST when I had the porch cushions nicely arranged so the porch actually looked decent, up popped a tremendous thunderstorm. The Boyz and their families arrived slightly damp. But many photo and much video were taken of Dearly celebrating his 95th birthday, so alles ist gut.
Got lots to do today, including our first read-through of the new play, “The Art of Murder” this evening.
Gotta run. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Good morning, 70 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Lisa will be here for a visit so I’ll go to the walk in clinic re my leg tomorrow. My spirits are low so it will be good to see her but I hope I won’t share germs. I can breathe ok with the meds but whatever I have isn’t gone. Best wishes to all.
:(
Princesspat, sending healing white light to you.
Also to bfitz for her back.
Good afternoon, meeses! Monday …
I had a busy morning then a nap then a bunch of tweaky things to do this afternoon.
An overcast morning obscured the stars. I had been enjoying the sight of Venus hanging out with Jupiter in the morning skies for the past few weeks. It should be clear tonight.
See all y’all tomorrow!
Tuesday Meese. 59 here in Kingston only going up to 74.
Puerto Rico
I read that headline “FEMA will deploy employees to ICE” backwards and thought that ICE would embed with FEMA operations to make sure that no one who was not a true-red “borned ‘Murican” was getting help from the government when their possessions and livelihood and loved ones were being swept away in floods hurricanes tornados and wildfire. Either one is terrible.
Good morning. So my governor, lt. governor & the House speaker are just tiny, petty men. Wow. On Blue Sky & Twitter (which I will never use Apartheid Clyde’s name for) there’s an account that has people post an #earworm song, today I posted Taylor Swift’s Mean in their honor. Anyway, hi.
It’s 76 heading for 98/heat index 106, and sunny at the moment. Definitely clouds and maybe rain this afternoon. Yesterday we generated 15.97 KWHs and the m-t-d at 285.49 gained a smidge.
In better news for my friend, somebody apparently reined in her husband. Pointed out that she did sign those papers, just one of the signatures was electronic, and he’d not only look pretty stupid he’d lose his victim cred if he continued to attack her and held up the divorce based on the accusation that she hadn’t. He emailed her yesterday midmorning, not conceding that she’s signed, but “magnanimously” telling her that if she sent him the signed form, he’d “talk with his attorney” and continue the proceedings as planned. And for her to send him a list of property she wished to retrieve from the house once the divorce is final. (Still hasn’t mentioned anything about paying off the mortgage but one step at a time I guess.)
I got several calls from my friend Kathleen in NM with very shocking news. Her (estranged, hasn’t seen him in 4 years or so) son murdered someone. In cold blood. Unknown to her he was hiding out on the property up on the mesa in Taos County so Aji saw it when it hit the news. Kathleen’s in southeastern NM & Aji managed to contact her and let her know what was going down before she saw it in the local news. Whoo! As you can image, she was/is very upset about it. (I’m not telling secrets – she posted it on Bluesky last night. basket saw the post and sent it to me. I hadn’t told anyone, not knowing what she wanted to do about it.)
Meanwhile, my personal life is relatively boring and I’m so very glad of that. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good grey Tuesday morning, Meese. It’s 67 F. in Ashburned, going up to 73 F. Despite the rainstorm on Sunday, we’re still three inches under for the year.
Yesterday I had lunch with my one remaining living Circle sister. Dear Goddess and l’il infant Osiris, she was in a foul mood! I’ve never seen her so disagreeable and interrogatory. I dislike people who fire questions at one, and then don’t wait for a reply before they fire the next one.
Hadn’t seen her in many moons. Next time she wants to have lunch I’m going to tell her I’m hand-feeding an orphaned, three-week-old baby elephant every half hour and can’t make it.
Facing another boring day of Cardiac Rehab. I’m trying to remember when I’ve been this bored: seems to me it was early 1982, when I was working for a hideously dull outfit in Vienna, VA.
On Friday I have to divulge what I’ve been eating for the last three days to the Nutrition RN. One of my writers, on learning that I don’t want to hear anyone mentioning armadillos in my presence, sent me a recipe for “armadillo eggs,” provided by a “pit boss.” If that’s what they’re eating in Texas, why isn’t EVERYONE in Cardiac Rehab? I can’t imagine cooking and eating such things.
Have to get ready. HOPE I can get to the gym today! Wishing a peaceful, healing day to all at the Pond, and disgusting, cringe-worthy revelations to all Rethugs on Capitol Hill and other Hills.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 80 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 99. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning there were thin clouds over the mountains but the pretty little waning crescent moon was shining through them in the ENE sky. She is about 15% illumination and will be new Friday night.
Gak! A quick scan of the headlines makes me remember why I do not want to scan the headlines. I shall ignore them all and hope that we can stop the worse from happening. I am not too keen on Gavin Newsom being cast as some sort of “knight in shining armor to save us” but in the absence of anyone else, it is good to see some sort of pushback. If he sets up a sanctuary state, I can get across the border in about 4 hours.
I am plodding through organizing my to-do list. I have two things I can knock off the list today.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 61 and mostly cloudy outside my windows today. I had planned to go to the ortho clinic but my leg is slightly better today so I’ll wait and see what happens tomorrow. I no longer test positive for covid but the damn virus that seems to be part of it is still making me feel unwell so imma a grouch.
Lisa was here for a visit yesterday and it was really nice to be with her. I wore a mask and we stayed outdoors so I hope no germs were shared. She did some errands with Ron and he enjoyed his time with her as well. Time to start the laundry and to find some lunch. As always, my best wishes to all.
Wednesday Meese. It’s damp and chilly here in Kingston. 62 and raining.
Congrats Jan on the Mercury win last night.
Puerto Rico
I missed the live Mercury win last night! It was going to end too late and I am an early riser. I was shocked to see they pulled off the win – they looked pretty bad when I went to bed. I look forward to watching the second half later this morning. It was nice to see Kah Copper get high points – her good games have been rare this year as she recovers from knee surgery. It bodes well for the future! I was sad that the Valkyries lost because I want them to end up higher in the standings than the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever and I really like a lot of their players. Sadly, their fate was probably sealed when they lost Thornton to a season ending knee injury; their roster is good but not deep enough.
Congratulations on your team finally beating the Lynx! It is a good time for you to heat up.
Well, the Republican redistricting maps will pass the Texas House today. Funny that even though they said flood relief was their priority, this is the first thing scheduled. I hope there’s at least some rowdiness from the crowd.
I was reading an article suggesting that there may be some leakage in those newly drawn maps. They were drawn based on the MAGAt gains in 2024 which were from people who were expecting 25 cent gas and $1 for a carton of eggs – with no shortages EVAH! Instead, inflation is going up and to add insult to injury, people are witnessing the horrific ICE raids on abuelas and the guy who runs the taco truck and the crew who repairs roofs plus the loss of their rural NPR radio station and the shutdown of the cancer research that their mother was taking part in at the university. The “we can’t have the Black woman” marginal tRump voters – the 1.5% who put him over the top – may either stay home or vote for Democrats. The Coalition of the Duped may not be the best group to rely on when drawing surgically precise gerrymanders that have no margin for error. We can hope!! It would be wonderful to see them hoisted on their own petard.
