Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 31st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Wednesday Meese. Very alarmed by US moves in the Caribbean

    No one is showing any evidence that there were drugs on the boat? // US military kills 11 people in strike on alleged drug boat from Venezuela, Trump says – http://www.reuters.com/world/americ...

    • That was my question – how did they know it was a “drug” boat? It could have been anybody.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast with a chance of rain this afternoon. There is a Tropical Storm forming off the west coast of Mexico that might bring us some rain – at least the “weather guessers” seem to think so and they put the chances up to 80% for tomorrow. It will be welcome.

    I started scanning the news and it is filled with such garbage it is too difficult to sort out. People keep thinking that courts can stop the country’s fall into authoritarianism when the top court gave the green light to a monarchy! Sheesh. Nothing can stop the federal government from moving troops into Chicago or Baltimore or any other Democratic city they want to because the guys with the bazookas and tanks will always win. The whole thing delights tRump’s base and Republican electeds and that is all that is necessary for a policy to survive. :(

    I have a few things to do today before the sun comes up and I best get to them.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 65 heading for 85 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 12.69 KWHs and the m-t-d at 20.44 isn’t on track but it didn’t lose any ground either. We shall see what today brings.

    I haven’t heard from Natalia yet so I don’t know if she tested negative and will be home today. I haven’t heard from the vet yet so I don’t know if there’s anything else we can/should try about Cloud pulling out his fur. He’s eating better than he has in a while and as long as he’s eating, I’m assuming he still wants to be here.

    Slept until the construction guys started showing up next door so I’m running a bit late for a Wednesday. Need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good Wednesday afternoon, Moosekind! It’s 76 F. in Ashburned on another silvery September day. Sometimes cloud shadows dim the sunlight momentarily, but the clouds are white against a blue sky. I’m afraid a lot of trees are dying from lack of rain.

    Was there a disturbance in the force last night? I had the night from hell, despite taking a sleeping pill. Dearly did too. I even had to go back to bed after breakfast this morning, before I had a shower. Wish I knew what is going on!

    Overjoyed to find yesterday that I don’t have to do anything with the headset except stand very still while it is fitted on me. I think we’ll all look hideous, and as for some guy attaching the wires to my undergarments, he will soon find that his instep is crushed by my stamping on it. The instructions issued to us all read, and I quote: “There is no shame in the theater.” HARRUMPH!

    Anyway, where was I—oh, yes, after my awful night I am about to take another nap. Had planned to get lots done today but have achieved nothing. Wish I hadn’t missed the Epstein victims’ testimony on the Hill this morning.

    Wishing a good rest of the day to all at the Pond!

  5. Good morning, 59 and clearing in Bellingham today. I see my new doc this afternoon and hopefully we can sort out my prescription refills. Not all of the meds transferred to the new doc, his office says they will respond to refill requests and get back to me but that’s not happening, they haven’t wanted to see me because of covid, the doc won’t send renewals to the pharmacy until he sees me, etc, etc. It’s an annoying mess and makes me miss Dr B even more. I hope I can stay civil and not be labeled “uncooperative”…..grrrr!
    I did a bit in the garden yesterday, but it’s looking neglected so I think I’ll start putting it to rest earlier this year. I have some sewing projects I want to do and some aging in place tasks I have to do so that’s where my energy needs to be used.
    Best wishes to all.

  6. Nice walk this morning, it was only 70 degrees; practically chilly for here. Stopped for wall pushups, tomorrow I’ll add standing crunches.

  7. It’s 66 heading for 86 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 15.25 KWHs and the m-t-d at 35.7 still isn’t on track but it’s gaining. We shall see what today brings.

    It’s cool enough to have the house open for another hour but I’m not sure I will. The construction noises next door are a bit loud. Yesterday I saw the moon – but only because I heard a cat hollering and went outside to see what was up. The moon was. (I couldn’t find the cat so it couldn’t have been the one I thought it was.) She’s too far to the south for me to see her from my bedroom window. Which is sad because once the house next door is up – not even finished, just has the walls up, I won’t be able to see her at all from the west windows. sigh. Oh well, I’ve had 27 years of open space to the west of the house before somebody finally decided to build something they could actually get through Planning and Engineering.

    Natalia’s still positive so she’s still staying at the farm. Not good news. She’s been off work, except for a few hours last Friday, since last Tuesday. Hopefully she’s show negative soon. Meanwhile Cloud is still pulling his fur out but not as much/badly as he was. Of if he is he’s not doing it where the fur shows up on the floor. The vet said his pancreas is fine and that it takes a couple of weeks for some of the meds he’s on to build up in his system and start showing results.

    Youtube’s tracked me down again or sosmething. I have 1 more freebie than I either have to “allow ads” or sign up for an account. Which I actually did try to do this morning but it didn’t like my email and wanted me to create a google email. Nope. So I’m seeing if I can find any of the stuff I want to listen to on Bing. But I’ll put more energy into that later. I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  8. It’s 72 here in Kingston and cloudy – looks like it’s going to rain.
    Puerto Rico

  9. Good morning, 60 and foggy in Bellingham today. I found my polite voice so my doc visit was ok yesterday….meds are sorted and lab work done so hopefully I’m healthy despite the misery of covid and arthritis. The changing but progressive reality of arthritis is frustrating, but my first steps today are much more comfortable so I’ll see how the day goes. Best wishes to all.

  10. Good afternoon, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 82 degrees and raining off and on. The day started busy, got busier and now it is nearly done. My WNBA team will play this evening in DC and I will not have to stay up past my bedtime to watch the ending!

    See all y’all tomorrow!

  11. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast with a chance for rain. Last night the moon was high in the clear SSE sky. This morning it is slightly overcast but a few stars are twinkling and I can hear the owls talking to each other across the green space and smell the recent rains in the wash. I am hoping to get a walk in at the local park to take advantage of the dip in temperatures. It should hold through the weekend.

    My WNBA basketball team won last night and are getting closer to being able to host a playoff game. That would be a big deal for fans and the organization. It is difficult to believe that the season is nearly over – I am glad that the playoffs will include extra games this year as that will extend the season.

    See all y’all later!

    • Congrats on the Mercury win Jan!

      Puerto Rico

      The US has deployed 10 F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico to support its warships off Venezuela.

  12. Good morning. Back to 80 degrees, wah. Glad I paid attention to the news and stuck my cooling kerchief in the fridge overnight. I did wall pushups and standing crunches. No pictures, though I could take one of the Texas Capital sometime.

  13. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! This is a drive-by, because I have to hustle to leave for Cardiac Rehab by 10.

    This:

    This morning it is slightly overcast but a few stars are twinkling and I can hear the owls talking to each other across the green space and smell the recent rains in the wash.

    That is so lovely and evocative. Thanks, Jan.

    NO RAIN YESTERDAY in the Data Center Desert. Faugh! DC received .47 of an inch. I’m going to go nuts. Drought, drought, drought. It’s 69 F. here right now, going up to 89 F.

    Later! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing white light to those who need it.

  14. It’s 67 heading for 74 and overcast. Also drizzling. Yesterday we generated 14.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 50 had just reached “on track” – which it’s about to lose again today. Sigh.

    Construction guys waited for an hour to see it the rain would stop before getting to work. I guess it’s OK to build modern houses while it’s drizzling. I’m glad my own house was built in 1965 by a guy who believed that “code” wasn’t good enough. They framed the ground floor of the house next to mine yesterday. I can still see the sky and tops of trees over that. Also the moon, for at least one more night, was able to shine into my bedroom and cast her light over my bed as she finished her night’s journey. That was lovely. We’ll see how quickly they get the 2nd floor and roof on. I suspect that last night may have been the last time the moon will be able to visit me in my bedroom.

    Natalia’s still at the farm. She’ll test again tomorrow morning and, please Goddess, be home Sunday evening. Cloud kitty is doing less pulling off his fur. Or at least there’s a lot less of it on the floor to sweep up. So that’s good.

    Didn’t sleep well – sinusitis – and running “behind my time” – so I’d best be off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  15. Good afternoon, 59 and hazy skies outside my windows today. Fires in BC are bringing smoky air so the color of the light has changed and the sunsets are very red. Son #2 is having surgery this afternoon to repair a torn tendon. I “know” he will be ok but I’m worrying anyway…..he has a long recovery ahead. But he has good docs, PT is arranged, thanks to the Lion’s Club he has the needed medical equipment, and one of my walkers is now in his car. So he’s ready to get today done, then on the rehab abd recovery.

    Elsa has settled in for the duration, but she is herding us to every possible food occasion. She is a dog with a purpose! Son#1 is enjoying his boat trip…..lots of whales and bear sightings. They are traveling down the coast of BC now so I expect he’ll be home next week.

    I’m finally recovering from covid and the pain in my knees and legs is easing so now to regain some stamina. Sitting at my desk this afternoon won’t do much for that but oh well. Best wishes to all.

    • What a delightful word image: “she is herding us to every possible food occasion.”

      I am glad to hear you are feeling some better. I worry about COVID making a comeback with the the federal government’s disease control systems going dark. I was encouraged that California, Oregon and Washington are going to create their own vaccine advisory council to take over where the CDC – and the Senate Republicans who confirmed RatFKjr to HHS knowing he was anti-vax – have failed us. Vaccine manufacturers will likely listen to that coalition and we will have vaccines. I can get to California for a shot in 4 hours.

  16. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast. There are some high clouds over the mountains but I can see the stars. I just caught a tiny glimpse of our nearly full moon dropping behind the buildings to the west – if I had gotten up closer to my normal time I would have seen her but when my brain woke up, my body was tired so I staying in bed about 45 minutes longer. I did see her last night to the ESE as she moves closer to due East in advance of the full moon on Sunday morning. She will be the fullest we will see her tonight over the mountains, she will be full at 11:08am on Sunday when she will be below our horizon.

    Our immigrant hating Mexican immigrant Congressman, Juan Ciscomani says he supports DACA recipients but sorry, he can’t lift a finger to help them – or their parents being rounded up by ICE thugs – because his political party demands it. I have a difficult time understanding how his brain works for him to deny his own ethnicity and origins (and sketchy path to citizenship) and actively support a party dedicated to restoring a white male christianist nation and declaring open season on brown people. The cognitive dissonance should make his head hurt. I hope the Democrats running against him next year can get their act together and finally put someone who represents our values in the House of Representatives.

    I am still working to wind down after a grueling past few months and hope to reinstitute my afternoon naps. We are getting to the time of year when I can take them on the porch.

    See all y’all later!

  17. Good morning. 81 degrees : (. A front is supposedly coming and it won’t get much warmer than this. I’ll believe it when it’s not 103 again this afternoon. One of my jeers in last night’s C&J at the orange place was to highs in the 100s in September. Anyway — hi.

  18. It’s 57 heading for 75 and overcast at the moment. It’s getting lighter and i can see some blue in the sky to the northwest so maybe it’ll clear off today. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 57.2 lost ground.

    Hoping to hear from Natalia soon – and hearing that the test was negative and she’ll be home tomorrow. The wood guy should be here sometime later this morning. I think with this load I’ll be set for winter. I hope.

    Did the bathroom this morning. Also taking advantage of the cool (before it heats up again next week) and have lemon walnut muffin bread in the oven. It’s about to come out and the house smells divine. But I’m a bit behind my time and need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  19. Good Saturday morning, Meese! We have a kind of “blah” day here in Ashburned. I watered the garden although they’ve predicted thunderstorms for this afternoon. I’m sure said storms will sniff and neatly sidestep this place. Lawks, the grass is brown, the trees are dying. Right now it’s 77 F., going up to 86 F. before the alleged rain begins.

    As we came out of Rehearsal last night, we saw the gorgeous Blood Moon, showing her beautiful coppery-colored Self! She’ll be full tomorrow night, hope to see Her.

    Today I have a costume fitting at 11, plus memorizing my lines, plus a possible trip to the store for blackberries—yada, yada, yada.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and healing white light to those who need it. Jan, hope you get that nap today! They’re not letting Angel Reese play until the second half, I hear, and Caitlin the Greatlin is out for the reason. Sports are dangerous.
