Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 61 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. Music time!
Good morning. I made it to kickboxing yesterday, yay me. Got lots of cooking to do today, but I’ll try to squeeze in a workout also. For now, I’m waiting for my tea to cool off enough to pour up, and then church. My pastors & several from my church were at a death penalty protest. The “science” he was convicted on has been disproven, but they want to execute him anyway. Shameful.
I couldn’t get in until just now. We’re up to 71 heading for 84 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 10 KWHs and the m-t-d at 40 is still on track.
Got an email from Diana saying she couldn’t get in. She was about to start a busy day so I don’t know if she’ll be able to try again later. She said she asked Dearly if he’d like to swap out the sofa for a hospital bed & he said yes. It’s right on 3 years since Monty died and Dearly hasn’t been the same since.
I managed to get all my chores done but I was slow and too tired to do my treadmill when I finished. Oh well, I guess I’ll count the vacuuming as my exercise today. Meanwhile I’ve got a lot of boosting to do – I’ve opened tabs and checked everything but wanted to check back here before I got started on it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
I had to try several times to get in, but I finally did. I have enough time on Sunday mornings to do that. though.
Thanks for the update bfitz. Diana and her family are in my thoughts. Hope the hospital bed brings comfort and needed restful sleep for both of them.
The site cache is due to be cleared so I will do that. That usually helps with login hiccups.
Bless you.

Good afternoon, 62, sunny and a light breeze in Bellingham today. I’m restlessly resting my legs so it’s been a quiet but peaceful day. I’m going to make some rome made tater tots next, and see if I can duplicated the flavor of the mexi fries I used to love eating. We’re having green chili cheese burgers for supper so gf and red chili flavor tots sound like a tasty side dish. As always, my best wishes to all.
Monday Meese. 50 degrees here in Kingston, going up to 82.

Good for Chicago! People have to make MAGAts (and their MAGAtty policies) so toxic that no one wants them anywhere. We have to continue to push back on the lie that it is normal for the feds to use attack helicopters in Chicago to roust people from their homes in the middle of the night and normal to send Texas National Guard troops into Illinois to enforce federal laws. When we stop pushing back, when we treat tRump emissaries like Jenniffer González Colón like she is just an ordinary politician, it will become normal and accepted.
Sorry about Phoenix loss to Aces Jan.
It was difficult to watch. I feel sorry for Kah – she is so much fun to watch and to see her talents squandered by game mismanagement is sad. It will be interesting to see how teams look next year with everyone a free agent. Will she go back to Chicago where her heart is but playing for a stupid owner, a stupid GM, and a stupid coach? Will she want to go to Toronto which is closer to home for her or will she stick with Phoenix where the fans love her and wait until Philadelphia gets their WNBA franchise? It will be a wild off-season for certain!
I am not sure we’ll have a WNBA season next year – re the breakdown in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.
I’m going to be focused on Women’s college Basketball soon – and my beloved South Carolina Gamecocks
This year my former team the Wisconsin Badgers have a new coach, the fired coach from Missouri, and their best player entered the portal and will play for UConn. My new team, the Arizona Wildcats, have a new coach, a woman from Buffalo, who is trying to build a Power Five program with exactly one returning (injured) player from last year after everyone including the coach abandoned ship. I like the new coach – maybe she will have fun teams to watch. In the meantime, my two fall sports teams, Wisconsin Volleyball and Wisconsin Women’s Hockey are playing
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 63 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The nearly full moon is shining into my office this morning. I knew she would be bright when I saw the shadows she cast over the wash and the greenspace when I visited my deck this morning. We have rain in the forecast for later in the week and temperatures will drop into Perfect October Weather, highs in the low 80s, abundant sunshine, cool open-window-sleeping overnight.
The Phoenix Mercury exposed their huge glaring weakness – the lack of experience and, really, basketball chops, of their head coach and his staff. You can’t go up against a coach who has the kind of WNBA playing experience and WNBA coaching experience that Becky Hammon has with a longtime NBA assistant whose most important hiring attribute was a friendship with the General Manager and who now has an entitled white male bonding with the entitled white male owner. A columnist in USA Today made the point that there is no on the job training in the finals:
Bolding mine. The problem is that Tibbetts has no schemes and his stubborn white male plan to only use three of his bench players is dumb and shortsighted. Make the other team gameplan for a Lexie Held coming off the bench to harass shooters and make 3-pointers or the impossible-to-move-aside 6’7″ Kalani Brown being planted under the basket to disrupt points in the paint. In any event, I will watch the finals and root for my favorite players and hope that some of them end up on a team I can wholeheartedly embrace next season. The Las Vegas Aces are still the Evil Empire for a lot of reasons but no one can question that they were assembled to win championships from the GM down to the people who hand out water bottles to the players.
I have three projects stacked up for this week but I can work on them at my own pace. I have early morning appointments later in the week that I will have to work around so I need to get as much done today as possible.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Had a terrible night’s sleep. It will be a struggle to stay awake all day. Got in a short walk.
It’s 62 heading for 84 and sunny at the moment. We keeps getting that pattern that would be monsoonal if it actually rained of clouding up in the afternoons. Sux but that’s life. Yesterday we generated 9.7 KWHs and we’re still on track anyway.
Natalia was so tired she stayed another night at the farm but then couldn’t sleep anyway. So she got up early and got home about the time she normally gets up anyway. Sigh. Getting down to the wire with her ex. They’re supposed to meet sometime this week to deal with the mortgage/quit claim. And then she’s got 2 weeks left to get a crew together and rent a truck to get her stuff. This on top of the crap going down at work. The departmental purchasing card/credit card is in her name but others can use it w/ authorization from the Chair. So while she was out of town the Chair sent the AA (a kid with techbro attitude if not techbro skill) to “get stuff for the kitchen”. Sigh. Nothing he brought back was either useful or allowable for a departmental kitchen. AND he seems to have gassed up his car while there. Ahem. So she’s got a real mess to clean up, he’s going to have to reimburse the department (and figure out what he wants to do with what will then be his stuff), and she’s just hoping Purchasing won’t pull the card. There’ll already be a black mark against her since the card is in her name but if they pull the card the department will have to operate without a credit card for the rest of the fiscal year. Putting more work on her, of course. So. Lots of stress. Not really a wonder that she’s tired but can’t sleep.
I’m tired of what’s going on in the world. But not surprised. I’ve watched it coming. It’s like when your car skids out of control and you see the bridge supports you’re rushing towards with no way to stop it. You hope it doesn’t kill you and think “this is it”. Meanwhile I can still boost folks needs and I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

Not the dissolution. Ask any Black, Brown, or Indigenous person. They recognize this United States all too well. Everything old is new again. We white folks are having to actually look at the evil they’ve always known.
Good morning, 58 and sunny. Not sure what I’ll get done today, but I hope to have a bit of flower fun. Best wishes to all.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s too dark at this hour to see what kind of day it will be, but right now in Ashburn it’s 62 F., going up to a humid 81 F. Rain is predicted for tonight and tomorrow morning, so I’d better bring the porch cushions in case it actually does.
This has been a tumultuous few days. I’m up early because I went to bed at 8:30 and turned out the light at 9. Spent Sunday night at Elder Son’s house in Arlington and could not get to sleep at all. No sleeping pill. Sunday morning first thing we drove to Elder Son’s house, after which he drove us to the ER, less than 10 minutes away. We spent the day there foodless and drinkless until Elder Son, bless him, brought us a thermos of tea. Saved our bloody lives, that did.
Eventually Kaiser found a bed for Dearly and installed him in a Room of His Own. I’m back at the ranch, and Younger Son is coming over this afternoon. We’re going to pick up Dearly today, I hope. They wanted his oxygen up and his blood pressure down before releasing him. He has lost interest in eating. Food nauseates him. (M’Daughter says this is not a good sign at all.)
After my sleepless night I did nothing but take a shower and snooze off and on. Just too exhausted. My weight has dropped because I’m too tired to eat.
The DMV is still delirious because the Commies won on Sunday, and I’m delirious because my guy, George Russell, won the F1 race on Sunday.
Will not comment on the Gestapo tactics used in Chicago on innocent Americans. Now he’s talking about deploying the 82nd Airborne Division in all blue cities? I can’t wrap my head around what’s happening.
Today the foot doctor is coming—she does my feet and my friend’s feet in the friend’s apartment—and right after that I have a Covid vaccine. Then Younger Son and I can go pick up Dearly.
Last night I saw Herself, a big beautiful Super Moon, the Harvest Moon! Attempted to photograph it but my photos never turn out well. Was pleased to know the Moon is important to my daughter too. While waiting for Elder Son to pick me up at the ER entrance Sunday night, I was amazed to see people walking right past without looking up at Her! She was nearly full, of course.
Need to get going on some chores. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Sending you all good thoughts.
{{{Diana}}} Healing Energy to you & your family. I’m glad you saw the beautiful full Harvest Moon. (Aji’s People call the on the Moon of the Falling Leaves.) Holding you & your family in The Light. Blessed Be. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning. Today I get to make many calls to the dermatologist to schedule a Mohs procedure on my forehead. Sigh. Hoping it won’t be too expensive. Always use sunscreen, kids. Anyway, happy Tuesday. At least I get to work from home & watch astronomy between calls.

Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 63 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The nearly full moon rose over the mountains around 6pm and was splendid. I was not up at the exact moment she became full but enjoyed the moonlight pouring into my bedroom window. This morning she was over my left shoulder from my office window.
I guess MAGAt government means “people flying planes have to coordinate their own landings with each other because there are no air traffic controllers.” What could possibly go wrong? They will never learn – you can’t defund essential government functions, fire all the people who train essential government workers and expect that things will just continue as they did when people who actually cared about a functioning government were running things. No one wants to work for the government at this point, they are unreliable and in many ways abusive, “you’re fired, you’re hired back, we aren’t paying you, please work overtime.” Sheesh.
I woke up with a plan but then it disappeared from my brain. I need to try to find my notes for what needs to be done today before I head to an early morning appointment. I won’t want to work when I get back.
See all y’all later!
It’s 62 heading for 78 and sunny at the moment but clouds at least and maybe rain in the forecast. Yesterday we generated 7.28 KWHS and the m-t-d at 57 lost a little ground but is still on track.
Down to the wire for Natalia. She’s meeting her ex at the bank today to deal with the mortgage/quitclaim stuff. Tomorrow she & her family at meeting at the house at 1 pm to pack and get all her stuff out. Some’s coming here. More’s going to the farm. And a lot is going into storage so she can finally get it dealt with. (A lot of that is stuff that’s been sitting in the garage for years. She figures if she’s paying for storage she’ll have the incentive to go through it and properly dispose of most of it.) And that will be that as far as her connections with her ex are concerned.
Need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 47 and the clouds are lifting so it will be a sunny day in Bellingham. My restless mind is still composing long lists but my old legs are saying hell no, so I’m struggling with “how to be old” Oh well, I made a fall arrangement for the front porch yesterday and to my surprise it looks nice. I’ve been grouchy and discouraged lately so it’s geed to see I still have a bit of creativity. Best wishes and healing thoughts to all.
Good morning. Procedure is scheduled Monday, I’m taking the whole day off because it’ll take a couple of hours, and I certainly won’t feel like talking to people after. And I’m pretty lucky, it’ll only be around $400. Logging out of work early today for a funeral and I’ll go to kickboxing after. So, a busy day.
Wednesday Meese.
Puerto Rico
This year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched an investigation into the eastern side of the bay, where there is a high concentration of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), a probable carcinogen. The goal is to prevent future exposure risks. By February, about 8,600 tons of contaminated soil had already been removed from the residential area of the Esperanza neighborhood.
Although the concentration of these toxic chemicals in the bay itself remains unknown, the Municipality of Guánica has proposed rebuilding the boardwalk that lines the bay. Meanwhile, the Puerto Rico Ports Authority — one of the agencies potentially responsible for the contamination — is considering reopening its dock for commercial use in the long-abandoned industrial zone. The House of Representatives is also studying the area’s development potential under House Resolution 261.
Let the government know: Here is the trans resistance!
Bad Bunny
The right-wing is melting down over Bad Bunny! Of course it exposes their ignorance about Puerto Rican’s American citizenship but MAGAt ignorance is not anything new. That it exposes their bigotry towards people who are not white is also nothing new. I hope that Puerto Ricans living in America who voted to enable MAGAt policies stop and think for one minute what their alliance with racists and haters means. It is not really that difficult – vote for people who hate them and deny their citizenship and humanity or reject them.
Whiny MAGA freaks out over Super Bowl halftime show – Songs in Spanish? In America?
Makes you wonder if they would be just as outraged if a white man sang in German or Russian.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast although it is overcast now. Last night the barely waning moon was splendid rising over the mountains and I was glad to see her because today she will not be viewable. We are going to have some interesting weather in store for us with Hurricane Priscilla rounding Mexico and heading right for us. She is expected to drop 5-8 inches of rain in Southern Arizona which will lead to flash flooding. The desert can absorb about 1/3 of an inch per rainfall then the rest runs off. It will be fun to watch from my high perch but not fun at all to be stuck in it.
Tonight I have two sporting events to watch. First, the WNBA Finals will be played in Phoenix and the Mercury will be playing at least two more games. I hope that the players I have enjoyed watching this season can pull out at least one victory ensuring that the Aces don’t clinch the championship in the Mercury’s home arena. My MLB team, the Milwaukee Brewers are playing the Cub$ in Chicago and a win there will send them to the National League Championship Game for the first time since 2018. I am hoping this is the year we get to the World Series. I was at County Stadium with my mother (a lifelong baseball fan who I flew into town to enjoy the games with me) when they were last in the World Series in 1982; they lost the series in game 7 in St. Louis to the Cardinals and have not been back since.
I am finishing up the project that I was unable to find brain cells to work on yesterday morning. I need to get back to it as I have an early appointment that will take me away from my desk soon.
See all y’all later!
It’s 62 heading for 76 breezy and sunny at the moment after a very cloudy night and early morning. (Good thing I saw the full moon yesterday morning because the clouds hid her last night and this morning.) Yesterday we generated 8.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 65.66 is still on track.
Well, everything blew up – is still in the process of blowing up – for Natalia. The bankruptcy atty had said he was trying to wrap up the bankruptcy before the divorce was final. What he didn’t tell her is that she can’t “sell” the house (including transfer the mortgage to her ex) until it is wrapped up. She found that out at the bank yesterday when they tried to do the transfer. She spent a lot of time online – because of course the bankruptcy payment center is totally computer operated and it’s impossible to reach a human being – jacking with the program to submit the final payment. She has evidence that it’s been submitted. Not accept much less processed. Meanwhile her ex in a series of increasingly nasty emails – to her work email, not her personal one – between 10 pm and 3 am decided he “wasn’t comfortable” with her and her crew coming to get her stuff today. She’s told her crew – and is now trying to reach the attorney to see about recourse. Prayers up, please. She needs all the good energy she can get.
Meanwhile there are folks in need to boost so I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
