Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 59 heading for 84 and supposed to be sunny. Which it’s not at the moment. Yesterday we generated 8.23 KWHs and the m-t-d at 120 lost a little more ground.
Out the door to DMV. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! GOT MAH SOCIAL! It was a bit more than usual, too. I distributed bits of it among my other accounts, but Dearly is asking for most of it. More about that in a moment.
It’s a sunny golden October morning outside, 61 F. at the moment, going up to 73 F., or so They Say.
It seems as if we should all “take arms against a sea of troubles”! Becky with her Mohs, Bfitz with her lack of sunshine, Dee with her husband having a TIA, Princesspat with Ron’s surgery and her loss of the verbena, and Jan’s roof problems.
Monday evening—Jeez. as if life weren’t complicated enough already—I was just pushing Dearly in his wheelchair back into our flat. We’d had dinner (awful, if you want to know) down the hall at the Pub. While getting out of his chair, somehow Dearly’s leg became involved with the foot pad, and he began bleeding COPIOUSLY. His trousers are ruined. I’ve managed to save his shoes. There are bloodstains on the carpet. Fortunately, our Wound Care Nurse was out in the hallway, so she came in and took charge. “He needs the ER,” she said. We called the Medical Technicians, who were a bunch of Amazons (and quite rude, with it), and they carted him off to the ER.
Darkness was falling and so was a little rain, but I followed in the car. Ugh! I don’t see well at night. I missed the entrance to the ER, so drove round and parked on the other side of the garage. Luckily at 7 in the evening there weren’t many people about. We were finally released at 11 p.m. after enduring HOURS of boredom (nothing to read), X-Rays, a doctor stitching up the skin of his shinny-shin-shin, and then bandaging it.
Ill as he was, he drove home. At 95, he’s a better driver than I any day of the week. The Wound Care Nurse came round to check on him yesterday evening, and I apologized for the rudeness of the Emergency Amazons. Glenda simply rolled her eyes and said they were all like that. Mah gawd, we have had such a variety of medical techs in here!
Yesterday I went to visit the allergist. She is as good as she is beautiful, which is saying a great deal, AND she laughed at all my jokes. She is the ONLY medical person I’ve ever met who knows exactly what’s wrong with me, has seen many patients who also have it, and knows how to treat it. I have some medicine for it now. I have Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria. Isn’t that jolly? Anyway, she gave me a list of things that exacerbate the condition: hot showers, alcohol, extreme anxiety or stress (!) and exercising immediately after eating. Gods, never any hot showers? They’re one of the few remaining pleasures of life, now that I’ve ditched sex and drugs and rock’n’roll.
The beautiful doctor reentered the exam room and said, yes, I could have the occasional hot shower, but just keep the skin hydrated, especially in the winter. She wants to see me in a month. Can’t tell you how relieved I am, and how much I’m looking forward to taking the pill twice a day.
Last month, when I received my Social, I wrote a check to Dearly for part of the monthly fee here. He likes to take a picture of it on his phone for deposit into our joint bank account. (I have a different bank.) It apparently went through. The fee was duly paid to The Home’s financial office, who have not sent any grim-grams about the missing $1000, so one would think that all is well.
But no, that $1000 continues to show up in my checking account! It’s not real! I taxed both his bank and mine with using sloppy software, but my bank continues to show the “ghost” thou. It’s very annoying. My bookkeeping is ill-managed at best, and this is one more irritant. I’m tempted to close that account and open a new one.
Well, enough of that griping. I need to get ready for whatever today brings. Wishing a good day and a good solution for everyone’s problems to all at the Pond!
P.S. So glad my problem is an autoimmune thingy and has nothing whatever to do with an allergy to gluten. I love bread and its variations!
Sorry to hear about Dearly’s leg!
I hope this new diagnosis and medication solve your problem. It has been a loooong time coming.

Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
Just time for a quick check-in as I am running late and need to run errands. It is 68 degrees and sunny with a high of 75. Maybe a little on the chilly side but perfect for me after a long hot summer.
See all y’all later!
Good afternoon, 53 and cloudy in Bellingham today. My day started late because I slept late…..hope that means the annoying fatigue I’ve been struggling with is easing. I’m really missing waking up feeling rested. I just did the necessary desk tasks. now I can pull on my gardening clothes and start removing the fading flowers from the pots around the back entrance. Cooler night temps are here now so the growing season is over for the more tender plants. Best wishes to all.
Are your family members Seattle Mariner fans? I have been watching them and enjoying their dramatic games. I am glad they have a dome as no one likes postseason games being rained out.
Thursday Meese. 41 here in Kingston.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. Not supposed to exercise but I had to dash outside and up to the roof of the garage to see the Space Station. It’s good to remember that there’s still some cool stuff we are doing. I’m in the office today, we’ll see how that goes. Yesterday was, ugh. I was putting today’s tea in the freezer and dropped the pitcher. 😥 So I had to clean that up, make another batch of tea for the rest of the week, do laundry because 4 towels full of tea…. And the floor is still sticky so I need to mop again tonight. Sigh.
It’s 55 heading for 82 and “mostly sunny” according to the widget. Of course yesterday was listed as totally “sunny” and we only generated 7.7 KWHs. The m-t-d at 127.8 lost a little more ground.
Yesterday after a 20-minute wait in line before the DMV doors opened, I was in and out in 13 minutes flat! So I went and did all the errands I normally do at “lunchtime” on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Early enough I was 5 minutes before opening at the credit union and 10 minutes before opening at the library. Of course the co-op and grocery store were open already. And I still managed to be back and online by 10:30. So that was good.
Very few if any fundraisers are being met. Some of them are at least hitting the “get by” mark. For some people that’s really “put off bills until shutoff threats” rather than get by. Which makes it more expensive the next month. Poverty tax. sigh. Anyway, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The prettiest waning crescent was supine in the early morning skies, due east.
Today we expect the roofers to do the permanent fix on the roof. Fingers crossed!
See all y’all later!
Hi. I have stitches in my head, so I really shouldn’t to the Austin No Kings rally. But damn if the governor isn’t making me want to anyway. He’s calling up the National Guard. For a rally. Where’s that eye roll emoji? I’m not gonna go, it would hurt and what’s one more person, but I wish I could.
Friday Meese. Still cold here in Kingston.
Puerto Rico
It’s 60 heading for 82 and sunny at the moment. We’ll have clouds when I least want them – during the afternoon’s peak generating time – and the overnight’s only going down to 67. But then a front’s moving in & tomorrow the high’s projected to be 71. With rain. Yesterday we generated 8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 135 lost another smidge of ground.
Well, it’s Friday. After what I expect will be a lovely soup (using the leftover chicken and refried bean fillings from Wednesday’s enchiladas + veggies & stock) Natalia will be heading out to the farm. There’s still a whole lot to be done here as well as a whole lot to be done there and she hasn’t even visited the storage unit. Because until she’s gotten everything situated here and at the farm there’s no place to put anything from the storage unit. But we’re down to a 2-box deep tier of boxes in the living room and a 1-box deep layer along the west wall in her bedroom. So getting there.
Everything is going up but so far I’m still managing without cutting anything. Including the little giving that I do. So far so good. Not so with the folks I’m boosting. Which I’d best get to doing. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 73. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning’s waning crescent was visible in a break in the clouds over the mountains and then disappeared from view. Her light was still visible. She will be new on October 21 at 5:25am MST. Still waiting to hear about my roof – rain expected Tuesday.
Looks like another good day to ignore the news.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 55 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The skies are clear and the stars are abundant – the moon has not cleared the mountains yet, I will go check on her shortly.
Today there will be No Kings rallies around the country. Goddess watch over them and keep them participants from harm.
I have many things to do and finally a window of time to do them in. I hope to get ahead of my to-do list this weekend.
See all y’all later!
Good gray Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 50 F. in Ashburn, going up to 73 F., or so They allege. I hope the sun comes out, because a group of us from The Home are going to the No Kings rally in Leesburg (the County seat just down the road). Yesterday and the day before were flawless blue-and-gold October days, wish today would be the same.
Life continues to be chaotic at our house. I do have nice friends, though. The Precinct Captain, a recent widow (whom I didn’t think even liked me) invited me to call her if I need someone to talk to, as did a couple of my fellow actors.
Dearly continues to sleep most of the time and has lost interest in reading the newspaper. He is, however, still interested in sports. He’s supposed to be doing all these things with the home monitoring kit but in fact does none of them. His arthritis is causing him a huge amount of pain. He eats almost nothing. He doesn’t have me save the crossword puzzle any more.
Sigh. He feels overwhelmed by the number of pills he has to take. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of laundry I have to do (never-ending), and the chores he used to do but no longer does.
Well, enough whining. I wonder when this national nightmare will ever end. Whereas the so-called Nixon nightmare affected only the biggys, this nightmare affects many of us, with the job loss. It’s even affecting people in India, with the tariffs.
I don’t have an inflatable frog costume, so I’ll just wear my
We have F1 in Austin this weekend, so many visitors. Makes me think of you & Dearly, I hope there’s some way y’all can watch it.
Thanks, Becky! He’ll watch while I’m at the demonstration. He records it all, too.
It’s so hot here the drivers will be wearing cooling vests. 95 degrees in mid-October. Ridiculous.
{{{Diana}}} I’m so very glad you have support there with you. Online friends can only do so much. Healing Energy & Holding you & Dearly in The Light. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
…don’t have an inflatable frog costume, so I’ll wear my yellow cap (we’re supposed to wear yellow), my yellow shoes, and my navy blue t-shirt with “Raging Granny” lettered on it in yellow. I’ll wear my third-best jeans in case they spray something nasty at us.
Well, that’s enough from me. Dearly did eat breakfast and is now watching New Forest vs. Chelsea on the telly. At 1 he’ll watch Formula 1 between naps. I’m planning to join a little excursion this evening to see a play, “Our Town.” Kate, one of our directors, is in it so we, her groupies, will go to see her.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Hey, I thought Angel Reese was a basketball player? So why was she prancing around barely clad for the Victoria’s Secret exhibition?
Angel is not only a basketball player – she’s an entrepreneur – this is part of her building her brand. She is under steady attack daily from MAGA followers of Caitlin Clark.
Good morning. Skipping kickboxing this morning, pretty sure my head would hate that. And no No Kings march for me, most I’m gonna do is wear yellow to pick up my groceries. For once, I’m looking forward to Monday, because the stitches come out.
{{{anotherdemocrat}}} Healing Energy & glad the stitches come out Monday. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
It’s 72 going to 74 and sunny at the moment but clouds are moving in and we’re supposed to get rain in a few hours. We shall see. Yesterday we generated 7.86 KWHs and the m-t-d at 142.87 lost a bit more ground.
Went to the Farmers Market this morning and got applies. The Winesaps are still lovely and crisp. They’re bigger than the Jonathans, enough bigger that when she’s here Natalia and I split one rather than having a whole apple each. They’re really a little small for that We end up with 3 oz of fruit after dinner rather than 4 oz. But some of the Jonathans were only 3 oz anyway. I’m glad I still enjoy them. There are so many things I used to like, used to consider treats, that just aren’t appealing longer. Oh well.
I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Winesaps are my favorite! I used to make tons of fruit desserts but now I simply eat the fruit. With just two of us, desserts go on and on and we become bored.
So no apple crumble, no blueberry cobbler, no Old English Pear Pie, peach-blackberry crisp…life changes as we grow old. I wonder whether diabetics can eat fruit. I have interviews with three diabetics lined up for next week, as well as a meeting with a newly formed club for those with that chronic condition.
{{{Diana}}} it is possible to make single-serving crumbles & pies. As long as whatever it is doesn’t require eggs you can reduced the recipe way down. When I’m in the mood for it, I still make apple and other fruit crumbles b/c it’s just oatmeal, brown sugar, & butter on top of chopped fruit and spices then baked. But it’s true I do like the plain fruit even better in my old age. LOL. As to diabetics and fruit, it depends on how severe their diabetes is and how much fruit you’re talking about. If they’re able to control the diabetes with diet or even oral insulin occasional fruit isn’t a problem. If they’re injecting insulin after every meal they should avoid fruit. {{{Diana}}}
Good morning. No Kings!

Good morning, 48 and cloudy in Bellingham today. If it’s not pouring rain we try to go to the march today. Our son will go with us so that will make parking and walking logistics easier. Our “marching” days are over but we feel the need to participate as best we can.
Ron’s pathology report shows clear margins so the melanoma scare is over, yay! He has a very large pressure bandage on the side of his face so his glasses are wonky but he feels ok. He sees a plastic surgeon next week so the wound will be stitched up and the scar should be minimal. Best wishes to all.
{{{princesspat}}} Yay! for clear margins. Moar Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Yay for no melanoma! Mine was basal cell but she said they got it all. Sending good thoughts to Ron.
