Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. We are supposed to get rain tonight, very exciting. I am dressed for kickboxing, going to take an early lunch & go. So glad I have these 2 wfh days.
It’s 49 heading for 77 and sunny to the east but the clouds are already moving in to the west. Yesterday we generated 7.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 120.59 gained a smidge more. Hopefully there’s enough ahead to keep us on track with the clouds and maybe rain forecast for the next few days.
My Social Security came in so I assume Diana’s did. I’ve errands to do today when I take my midday break from being online – to rest my hands and the laptop both – so I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind. It’s 44 F. in cold, gray Ashburn this morning, going up to 49 F. At least we had rain last night after dark.
Yesterday I made a cheese and tomato sandwich with air bread and cut the crusts off. I suddenly realized that I was cutting off the crusts because Dearly liked it that way! I myself have no problem with real bread (oatmeal) and crusts, but he thought “Crust was bust.”
Ah got mah Social! I couldn’t tell whether it was more or not. I’m so distraught. Will I get survivors’ benefits next month? I was so grateful that I didn’t have to try to get hold of SS myself because the funeral place did that and Resident Life confirmed it. Was appalled to read on AOL that I will be paying higher taxes next April because I am single now. Just downloaded a piece called “64 things I wish someone had told me about grief,” and am finding it helpful.
Cold, gray, and gloomy today but at least we did get some rain last night. This morning I have a “wellness” meeting with my doctor and a meeting with Resident Life this afternoon to determine which date would be best for the memorial service. I’m trying to remember songs he loved about England. “Land of Hope and Glory” was one, but lawks, we don’t want to sound as if this is a high school graduation. “Rule, Britannia” is nice but too warlike, and “There’ll always be an England” is too long and warlike except for the last quatrain. He loved his adopted country and preferred to live here. So what shall we have? I love “The Star-Spangled Banner” myself, but it’s awfully long and I don’t need everyone to stand in the middle of the service. “America the Beautiful” might be good, just the first stanza. As people file out at the end, I want to use the Byrds “Turn, Turn, Turn.”
Well, now that I’ve bored y’all to the point of madness I’ll take myself off to get ready. DIL and I will work on the photos for the Death Notice and the Obit between appointments. Wishihng a good day to all at the Pond!
{{{Diana}}} You could always play – instrumental – what we call “America” and what the English call “God Save the Queen/King” since it’s the same melody. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Don’t forget that the SSA will rudely claw back Dearly’s check the second that they hear of his passing. If his checking account is used for some of your household’s bills as autopays, you need to get into them and change them. I had a friend whose father’s accounting was all messed up when his spouse passed away. I am 99% sure that you won’t see your survivor benefits until next month.
I would not worry too much about having to pay more taxes next year. One of the things in the Kill The Poors Bill passed this year was to raise the threshold on taxable Social Security. It was included to keep angry seniors who read the news from ripping their ‘nads off. I have my TurboTax program but have not had a chance to install it and run the first pass.
Diana, I’m so glad you made the wise decision to move when you did. I know the move wasn’t easy but now you have support in place to help you. Take care.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 63. If the sun stays out, it will warmer. They are saying rain but there has been none – I see it in the mountains. Tonight the moon will be new so we should gather up all the things we don’t want and cast them into the waning light, never to be seen again.
I had to fast for a blood test and it has thrown off my day. I am still nursing this chest cold, on day 4 but I have found the right combinations of drugs and homeopathic remedies and rest to be mostly comfortable. I drove to the storage unit to get the holiday decorations so that is off my to-do list. I have declared my day “done” and will sit and read and then watch sporting events.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 45 and sunny in Bellingham today. I got my sewing project sorted out by deciding to make placemats instead of the rather complicated table runners I was trying to make. Interesting how easy it was after I accepted the limits of just working with the fabric I have :) The last of the leaves are falling now so it’s time to mulch the beds and put away the hoses. I think Bri will be here so between easy gardening and easy sewing I should have a good day. Best wishes to all.
Hope you are feeling better soon Jan. Colds are so annoying! We put the lights on the porch tree yesterday, another spot of color for the dark afternoons and evenings. The large garden wreath needs new lights so I’ll try to replace them today so we can put it in place tomorrow. I know it’s early for Christmas, but winter cheer is needed regardless.
Thursday Meese. 26 degrees here in Kingston atm. Will go up to a “high” of 44.
(Jan – I’m celebrating my women’s basketball team SC Gamecocks win of 106 to 56 yesterday :)

Good morning. No rain, :(. Probably will get here just in time for rush hour tonight. Did my walk, at least that was nice.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday after the new moon …
It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected high of 57. Rain overnight, rain now and rain expected most of the day. Fill those reservoirs and lay snow on the mountains!!
All I can say is don’t believe the stories that tRump’s ratings plummeting means anything about how the Republican Party will govern or how he and his increasingly chaotic brain will “survive”. They don’t need the Consent of the Governed (pretty words in the Declaration of Independence) – they just need the treasury and the military and ICE, their SS. It is a cult and it defies the laws of rational thinking.
I have accounting projects that need to be finished by noon or they will not reach the right people before the world shuts down for Thanksgiving Week.
See all y’all later!
It’s 66 maybe heading 68 quite dark and raining at the moment. Yesterday we generated 6.42 and the m-t-d at 126.97 has enough cushion to stay on track through a day of dark and rain. We shall see if we get any generation today.
It’s definitely a day when I’ll be able to have a fire early enough to do laundry. Which is good. Meanwhile I need to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 45 and cloudy outside my windows today. Bri was here yesterday so the planting beds are mulched and garden is basically ready for winter. I’ll keep the patios going as a winter garden but the rest can just be for a few months. I’ve got some desk work to do this morning and a lab appointment this afternoon. Best wishes to all.
Great big kablooey thunderstorm last night. No more rain today, sigh. Still, in a drought any rain is great. Did my walk. I wonder why my tracker shows a different distance than yesterday when I did the same route? Weird.
It’s 63 heading for 69 and cloudy at the moment. Widget says it’s going to clear off soon. Hope so. Yesterday we only generated 1.15 KWHs. But the m-t-d has enough padding that at 128.14 we’re still on track and can even handle one more cloudy day. So that’s good.
Had a rocky night. Sinusitis. So I’m a bit brain foggy this morning. Sigh. Oh well. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 41 and cloudy in Bellingham. I stayed focused yesterday, and a years worth of table linens are now ironed and ready to use again…..small progress! I’ve started Tday cooking prep so that holiday is organized, wish I could say the same for Christmas. Best wishes to all.
Yay for small progress! I have a list of projects that I need to get done, still too many things sitting around in boxes that need to be sorted/scanned/shredded. We are looking seriously at finding a house to rent and moving on from this apartment so I want to be ready to pack up and go well before I have to. We can’t move until May but the decision would have to be made by March.
Good afternoon, meeses! Friday …
It is 61 degrees in Tucson and that is the expected high. No rain expected today and the sun was out for long enough to get my walk in.
I had a hectic day trying to get loose ends tied off so I could get a productive weekend and holiday week of work done. So many people will be gone all next week that I need to make sure I have all the questions answered that I need answered to be productive.
One of my basketball teams, the University of Arizona, will be hosting an in-state rival, Northern Arizona University, who beat them twice last year but who graduated all their starters and got a new coach. The UofA graduated or lost all their starters to the portal and have a new coach so the two schools have a rivalry but no players or coaches on either team have met in a game. Very weird.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies this morning, partly sunny this afternoon and a chance for rain this afternoon. We got quite a bit of rain this past week, for which we are grateful. There is another band of storms arriving tomorrow and then we settle in for a period of more typical late fall temperatures. I have obviously acclimated to my new environment – 48 degrees feels bone chilling cold! My perfect day is morning low about 68, daytime high of 85, abundant sunshine.
If I gave a rats ass about MAGAt world, I would wonder if tRump has some really bad stuff on Marjorie Taylor Greene that she is willing to give up her House seat for. I suspect that a lot of the Truly Deranged wing of the Republican Party have a lot of bad stuff that can be made to look worse (if that is even possible!). Can’t break from the cult, they will break you instead! If they were smarter people, they would ponder that. But they aren’t and all we can do is feel sorry for the decent people in her district who will likely be represented by someone more deranged than she is.
Europe is signalling that they will support Ukraine after tRump and Putin announced their “peace plan” that will cede Ukrainian territory to Russia. I hope they are steadfast; we need the European countries to provide a bulwark against the America that tRump has created to give us time to get power back into the hands of decent people.
I have many things to do today and maybe a trip to the Urgimed. My chest cold is not clearing up and I should make sure it is not anything more serious. This time of year is so busy, I can’t afford to be offline. Today, I have a basketball game to watch that was played last night that I couldn’t watch live. Arizona Wildcats won and are now 4-0! No one knows how they will play when they meet their first formidable foe but they are looking better every game. Last night they were in “some” foul trouble but not like they had been. One of our players who was expected to be a contributor but who was not “getting” what Coach Burke wanted her to do, is finally getting playing time and she will be really good.
See all y’all later!
Congrats on the win Jan!
There were some upsets and near upsets in the top 25 yesterday. I am sure you have pointed out to your husband that UConn looks beatable. :) They do!
Saturday Meese – an ugh we have snow predicted

Puerto Rico
“It is the obligation of the government of Puerto Rico to act with the utmost transparency before our country, and with the utmost firmness before the United States government. It is unacceptable that, in addition to the outrage of the United States Navy’s failure to fulfill its obligation to repair the extensive environmental damage caused by 60 years of bombing in Vieques, there has been an intention to use the island as a military dump,” they stated in both letters, sent on Thursday.
I was sad to see that the champion of Puerto Rico, Rep. Nydia Velázquez, will be retiring. I understand that a lot of people think it is time for anyone over 70 to step aside but we are losing a lot of institutional memory. I hope the young people filling these seats read history and understand that past good works need to be remembered, honored and built upon.
It’s 51 heading for 59 and cloudy. No rain expected but no sun either. Yesterday it did clear off and we generated 7.39 KWHs and the m-t-d at 135.52 gained a smidge and can stay on track through at least one more cloudy day.
Natalia is here because she’s got so much stuff to do in town this weekend. But right now she’s working on getting 15 years worth of cat hair off the curtains. Bless her. I’ve been to the last outdoor Farmers Market of the year/season and got my apples. Winesaps and Pink Ladies. They won’t last until Christmas but it should be close. And right next to the apple vendor was a GF baked goods stall. (Last day of Market frequently is missing most of the fresh produce people so the rest rearrange themselves into the “better” locations. So I spent $7 for a cinnamon roll because I haven’t had a cinnamon roll in 20 years. LOL. I’ll have it – split it with Natalia because it’s too big for me to eat at a sitting and the purpose of buying fresh baked goods is to eat them fresh – with coffee shortly. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good for you! “So I spent $7 for a cinnamon roll because I haven’t had a cinnamon roll in 20 years.”
My daughter has been looking for GF cinnamon rolls for years and can’t find any that don’t taste like cardboard. I suppose driving to the Farmers Market in Fayetteville would not be a very efficient shopping move. :)
Yeah, that would be a bit of a trek. Hope she can find a good GF bakery locally.
