Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 35 heading for 49 and sunny at the moment. Clouds are supposed to move in this afternoon. Late afternoon I hope. Yesterday we generated 2.92 KWHs and the m-t-d at 149.25 is no longer on track. It’s close. But. . . we’ve only got 5 days left in Nov.
Natalia has the day off – early start on Thanksgiving – and fixed us “Sunday brunch” for breakfast (pancakes, Canadian bacon, scrambled eggs, OJ, coffee). It was lovely. First time for using besan and she’s not quite satisfied with how the pancakes came out but they tasted fine to me. She’d planned to go over to the old place and get her last couple of carloads of stuff. But he decided he didn’t want her coming today and she should come Saturday. When it’s supposed to be in the 30s and raining all day. I’m pretty sure she’s decided to just write off those last bits. I hope so. The fewer strings he has on her, the nastier he gets about pulling them. Cut the strings and he can’t pull them.
Meanwhile, there’s boosting to be done so I’d best get to doing it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! Grey and gloomy here. It began to rain desultorily last evening at dinner and kept it up all night. It was never heavy, as far as I could judge. Forgot to tell y’all that Monday night, when it was still clear, I was treated to a thin, delicious slice of silver moon in the night sky. Made my evening!
I finished banging out the program for the service (the text, that is) and now must figure out how to desktop-publish the order of service. I have to get UPS to make 100 copies of it. Can any of you recommend a Word template? I’m sure it’s cheaper to have it printed in black and white. After all, it’s going to be thrown away afterwards by whoever takes one, innit? One 8 1/2-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper, folded in fours. Dearly’s picture and dates on the front page, not sure what on the second page, order of service on the third page, and probably a picture of Don and Mon (Monty beagle) on the back page with a small note that the music was arranged by Granddaughter Nora.
I have to get my hair done this morning, pick up the dry cleaning (this will be the last time I ever pick up Dearly’s shirts), work on the program, get some stuff done before I leave for an overnight visit, and things like that. I’ve had good luck arranging dinners for the first five nights of this week. Last night—dinner with two charming neighbors. Tonight, the UU dinner. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving at Elder Son’s house. Friday I’m having dinner with one of my writers.
It’s 55 F. right now, going up to 70 F. later. Can you imagine? Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
{{{Diana}}} I saw Herself last night too. A bright crescent in a relatively clear sky. You’re doing good. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Very often the print services (UPS and FedEx) can recommend templates to use.
Good morning, 42 and cloudy outside my windows today. I have a day of cooking ahead, but the flowers are done, the table is set and the house is basically clean so it should be a relatively easy day. Ron has lost the checkbook so that’s annoying but he will be at the bank when it opens to sort it out. Best wishes to all.
Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it.
Congratulations on your South Carolina team’s win! That is the first time I have seen them this year, they look pretty unbeatable.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday that will feel like a Saturday …
It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 73. Mostly sunny skies with a few scattered clouds is the forecast. It is clear now. I have not seen the moon yet this cycle, she is rising after I go to sleep and setting in a place I can’t see from any of my windows. I will make a point to look for her in the afternoon sky.
My daughter will be preparing the feast today so just have to arrive at the table and eat it. She prefers that because she can control the ingredients to work around her allergies. The federal government has given me a day off when even the most diehard workaholics will not be expecting computer support and I am thankful for that. We will watch some football, rooting for random teams to beat the ones we like least and avoid the national news.
See all y’all later!
Not leaving to go eat at a friend’s till around 5PM.

Good morning. It actually got cold! Very exciting considering I was still wearing sandals & capris yesterday. I made mushroom risotto for today, it’s my favorite. Hope everyone has a good day today!
Good Thursday morning, Meese! Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday until I learned better. Now it’s a day to be with family. It’s gray and cold in Ashburn, 40 F. right now. The temps will go down to 33 F. tonight and we can expect rain or snow.
Yesterday had its good side and its bad: the good was the amazing kindness of my friends here! The chair of the Drama Club left me a condolence card with five twenties in it. The card said a little extra cash always came in handy at a time like this. My barber gave me a box of chocolate-covered cakes. Went to the UU dinner last night and made them laugh with my story of getting Lost in the Country in the dark, and the angel in human form who rescued me. The dear man, I hope life treats him kindly.
The bad thing that happened was that I was looking for a free template (don’t have time to order one and wait for it to arrive) for the program. Jan, if only I’d thought of Fed Ex or UPS! Anyway, even though Malwarebytes saved me from the virus itself, the bloatware from McAfee and Norton pops up on my screen every second! It makes me want to commit murder. Basket may be able to help me tonight. I have to drive over to Younger Son’s house pretty soon. Will stay overnight, then come back here. I probably should inform Security.
So that’s my sad story. I hope Ron finds the checkbook. That reminds me, I must start checking Dearly’s bank account along with my own from now on.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
{{{Diana}}} Step by step. You’re doing good. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
It’s 33 heading for 55 today and sunny so far. Yesterday we generated 7.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 156.79 is back on track. Barely. ~24 KWHs to go to reach 180. 4 production days to do it in. We shall see what we shall see.
Natalia received the cuff she ordered from Aji & Wings yesterday. Wings couldn’t make anything that wasn’t “special” if he tried. This piece is very special and just right for her, especially right now and going forward. A gift – expensive and substantial – to herself at the start of a new phase of her life. A gift to remind herself that she is worthwhile. No matter what former husbands, boyfriends, or bosses have manipulated her into believing over the decades. A very visible, tangible, sign that Healing is happening. And this is good.
Happy Thanksgiving however you celebrate it. Or don’t. Your choice. Natalia will be leaving for the farm shortly. My family will be here about 6. Or so. I expect to hear from both my sons sometime or other over the course of the day. Meanwhile, there are still folks to boost so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 46 and raining in my garden today. Ron searched the car again and found the checkbook between the seat and the console, whew! We had fun with food prep and baking day yesterday, so today should be relatively easy. I’m ready to just relax and enjoy time with family. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 72. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I was able to see the moon yesterday afternoon high over the mountains. She was already gone by the time I got up.
Any shooting is horrific and the murder and attempted murder of two National Guard troops is no less horrific simply because they should never have been there in the first place and were only there as show of power by the tinpot dictator the Supreme Court refuses to rein in. Likely some other innocent persons would have been attacked by the man who traveled across the country to show his anger by killing people unrelated to his personal plight. But it seems worse because those two people who volunteered to be in the National Guard and planning to help build sandbags for the next flood were put in harms way to make a political point and the attack on them will be used to make more political points. Sadly, they are no different from the National Guard troops that George W. Bush pressed into service in Iraq, used for deployments completely outside of their service mandate. :(
I woke up (way too early) to find that one of my computers was not online. When I started it up, it showed that the CPU fan had failed. I got past the startup but noticed that the back of the computer was quite hot. After a few support searches, the fan issue can be caused by dust or blockage of the fan (nope) or needing driver updates specifically BIOS updates which provide hardware instructions to manage the fans. A frantic 30 minutes later, after doing an emergency backup of critical files while I had the system up, I installed the BIOS update and two other critical drivers related to CPU fan and cooling management. After restarting, the startup errors were gone, the diagnostics all passed and the back of the computer was once more cool to the touch. Crisis averted but JHC on a popsicle stick, not what I wanted to do first thing in the morning! Now I need a nap. :)
I am hoping to get done with the accounting work that was delayed and spend some time sports watching today.
See all y’all later!
Glad you got it fixed!
Glad you were able to get it fixed. I certainly wouldn’t have been. But yeah, not what you want to face first thing in the morning.
It’s kind of what I do, fix computers that stop working. But I prefer to have people pay me to do it rather than needing to do it to start my workday. :)
True. 👍😁
Friday Meese. Came home from dinner last night with tons of leftovers so I won’t have to cook for days! Yay!

Leftovers are great! We try to make small enough feastings that we don’t have too much stuff to put in our tiny refrigerator but we will definitely get one more meal today.
I couldn’t believe that South Carolina lost to Texas. They beat the #3 and #2 teams in back to back days, yikes! We know one player on Texas, a transfer from Arizona leaving the mess Adia Barnes left. I think they must be a good landing spot.
I’m glad the loss was now – and not in January. Dawn has a mostly all new team to put together.
The UConn team is having the same problem. A lot of their players are the same but they are trying to replace one player, Bueckers, who essentially had three roles on the team. They look a bit choppy and had to work harder than expected to beat teams that were good but not great.
Good morning. I have got to get a workout in today. I did nothing at all yesterday, which is fine but today I have errands and cooking….. gotta get stuff done.
It’s 34 heading to 56 and sunny at the moment. Widget says clouds will be moving in later today. Hopefully a lot later. Yesterday we generated 7.87 KWHs, 2nd highest single day for the month, and the m-t-d at 164.67 is on track for 180. Barely. We shall see what we shall see.
I saw Herself last night as I was seeing off family. Beautiful silver-white crescent in a charcoal-gray sky. I had a lovely if short (little over half hour) visit with my grandson, his mom, & his stepdad. His half-sib had to work. I’ll see them again tomorrow as they did want the shelf and 2 large chairs Natalia said to offer them and they’ll be by tomorrow with Josh’s van to pick them up. And of course they brought a lovely platter of Thanksgiving dinner foods – which will feed me for 3 days. Even though I’m saving the wild rice for soup next week. LOL. Talked to my older son for a few minutes and will be seeing him either today or tomorrow. Talked to my younger son for little over half an hour. Plus a couple of other calls from family and friends. A very nice Thanksgiving.
Bought everything I needed with the possible exception of milk so that I don’t have to buy anything until at least Tuesday. And then, other than milk, the only thing I can think of is to order holiday stamps for the few cards I still send out. Meanwhile there’s still boosting to do so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Saturday that feels exactly like a Saturday …
It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I saw the moon yesterday afternoon growing in the eastern sky. If it weren’t do darned cold, I could go outside and see her in the dark skies (when she is out of sight from the deck) but I am still babying my healing lungs. The cold sets them off and my barking cough scares the dog!
I saw a post on BlueSky that suggested that the next Democratic president needs to raze the monstrous – and still growing – ballroom that the Felon is building on the White House property. I agree completely. It should be the first thing they do and each of the 200 million Americans being harmed by tRump and the Republican policies should each take a turn with the wrecking ball and bulldozer. Maybe we can get some non-MAGAt billionaires to donate to the Eradication Fund – lots of MAGAt billionaires were willing to donate to please their king.
I have a project I promised for Monday morning and I need to get most of it done today so that tomorrow is just wrapping up loose ends. Monday is December! I am not ready.
See all y’all later!
They should also take out the tacky patio and re-plant the rose garden.
Good morning. Warm today (“compression”?) ahead of a serious cool down tomorrow when our high will be in the 40s. Texas weather. Today: kickboxing and food prep for next week. Five days will feel like a lot, I’m taking chocolate yogurt for lunch dessert to each of my in-office days.
Good Saturday morning, Meese! Glad everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We did too, considering Dearly wasn’t there. However, Younger Son has been hosting a French foreign exchange student, aged 15, for a few days so we had something to talk about. Paul is from Toulouse and wants to be a veterinarian when he grows up. I tried my fractured French on him, which he politely answered in English.
It’s 30 F. today and clear in Ashburn, going up to 38 F., blue-skied and sunny, like a Canadian northwoods day. I must remember to go out and see Herself tonight.
Nora got the bloatware with the annoying pop-ups and dings off my laptop! Bless this child. At 16 and 1/2 she knows everything, right? (Uh-huh.) Anyway, she peered at it intently for five minutes, then simply turned off notifications! Duh, why didn’t I think of that? We then worked on the music for the service. We decided that the opening bars of “Rhapsody in Blue” were too difficult, so we used “Up, Up and Away” for when The Boyz begin to talk about Dearly’s career with the airlines.
I charged up Dearly’s phone last night and discovered an unpaid bill from Inova, so I’ll have to call them on Monday morning. My delightful neighbor handed me a box from Wegman’s yesterday as I was walking home after dinner and said it was a gift from her children. They were smiling cheerfully as we stood in the hallway, two men and a woman. The box held four cinnamon buns! I had one for breakfast after scraping off the icing, which I hate, and heating it gently.
Had two brainwaves yesterday, on which I will act as soon as possible. One concerned the kitchen. It has been the dream of my life to have clear kitchen counters. This was hard to do since Dearly used the kitchen counter and his phone as his office. The other brainwave concerned the huge pile of coins we’ve amassed. Going to get rid of them, even if it does cost $8 in the coin counting machine at the store.
Have a dinner date tonight with my neighbor across the hall (a widower) and two other guys from upstairs. Have a dinner date tomorrow with three people from the Drama Club. I can get through the evenings just fine, I’m so busy, but dinner alone is hard to bear. It was a hard and fast tradition in our marriage that we had dinner every night. The boys worship the tradition and carry it on to this day.
Going to get washed and brushed and go to the gym. Perhaps that will cure my arthritis! Wishing everyone at the Pond a good day.
{{{Diana}}} Glad your Thanksgiving went well and that you are making plans for going forward. You’ll never “get over” not having him there but you will get used to it as you create your new routines. Holding you in my heart & in The Light. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
When I used to do my banking in actual branch office buildings, the banks had free coin counting machines – they needed them for commercial deposits and let ordinary people use them. Now I bank in – literal – holes in the wall in grocery stores and I am fairly certain they would not have any equipment other than the essential. Some banks are might be nice enough to do the counting for free even if they are not your bank.
It’s 44 heading for 49 and overcast at the moment. It’s supposed to clear off this afternoon and I hope it’s early afternoon. Yesterday we generated 7.85 KWHs and the m-t-d at 172.5 is only 7.5 short to reach the 180 goal. Doable in a single sunny day. Not doable even with 2 days if they’re very cloudy. Which they’re largely predicted to be. We shall see what we shall see.
Finished off the turkey and dressing last night. Will probably finish off the ham and sweet potato tonight. Then I’ll have to go back to my own protein as I finish off the remaining Thanksgiving side dishes. LOL. Too cloudy last night to see Herself. Tonight will probably be the same but I’ll check. So nice to see Her, rejoice in her cyclical constancy in a world out of balance.
Family coming to pick up stuff today. I’ll see my son either today or tomorrow – a neighbor gave me a pecan pie which I can’t eat because it’s not gluten free but Lang certainly can and he loves it as much as I do. If he calls first, I’ll see if he can pick up a gallon of milk on the way so I won’t have to. Natalia will be home tomorrow evening with the last of the stuff she’s getting from what used to be her house. Meanwhile there’s boosting to do and I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 37 and cloudy in Bellingham today. My house is quiet, leftovers are put away, flowers are still pretty……it was a nice Thanksgiving. We’ll go to lunch soon and raise a glass to 58 yrs together. And on the way home we’ll get a Christmas tree. I’m grateful but very weary. Best wishes to all.
