Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 48 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 57. Mostly cloudy skies with rain off and on throughout the day.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Good morning. The music diary last night was fun. Today: church and cooking. I cooked my mushrooms yesterday because they go bad so fast. Might as well finish the risotto today. Anyway, happy Sunday all.
Good morning! Posted
I am sure you saw that with the hire of the NBA G team coach as the Liberty coach, there will be more men coaches in the WNBA than women coaches. This is what happens when men find something that is lucrative enough to attract them but which traditionally had been done by women. The women lose the jobs and the men cash in. :(
Yes. Am very unhappy about it. I wanted Witherspoon to be next coach
As long as men are a majority of the owners and general managers, they will always favor “bringing in a guy to fix things.” The Mercury owner thinks Nate Tibbets is great because they “bonded.” Sheesh.
Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! ‘Tis a fair day and will be relatively warm, compared to what it has been. Right now it’s 46 F. under sunny skies, going up to 60 F. later. This will be a good day to finally clear out my garden tub.
The last few days have been trot-trot-trot from morning until night, when I fall exhausted into the green chair. Have been making the arrangements, with the help of the staff here and Mah Boyz and daughter-in-law. Yesterday morning Dearly’s death notice appeared in the WaPo. We also uploaded his obituary to Legacy.com:

People have been super-nice! This place is filled with flowers and cards. Daughter in Massachusetts warned me against publishing full names and places of residence in the obit because of scammers. Today I have to work on the playlist, which Granddaughter will put together. DIL is putting together a slideshow.
I can cope just fine until dinner time. I’ve managed to find people to go to dinner with every night so far except last night. It’s OK, because I’ve lost my appetite anyway. In fact, I need to get busy on that playlist, so I will sign off now and hope to be better at keeping in touch. It’s AWFUL about Tatiana Schlossberg! She’s so young!
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Thank you for the link! He looks like a movie star!! He was born the same year as my mother but had 5 years longer on the earthly plane than she did. A long full life to be celebrated.
{{{Diana}}} Don was born the same year as my momma. I’m glad he had so much more time than she did. She would have loved to have done the kind of traveling he did.
I hear ya about dinner being really hard. It won’t get easy but it will get easier. Healing Energy & Holding you in The Light. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Thank you for the link Diana. So good to know you have friends and family close around you.
Beautiful obit Sis. HUGS.
It’s 47 heading for 65 and cloudy at the moment but the widget says it’ll clear off and we’ll have sunshine this afternoon. Hope so. Yesterday we generated 1.57 KWHs and the m-t-d at 137.17, while still on track with a bit of room to spare, lost ground. And tomorrow is supposed to be clouds and maybe rain all day.
Natalia and I did a last, brief “that’s it until after Xmas” Walmart run this morning. It had dawned on me yesterday that I didn’t have enough kibble in the house to get through December, nor enough Chinet plates for the 2 family gatherings. Also spied some Bird’s Eye mixed vegetables – they’re great for making soups – which have been missing from my grocery store. If ever there was a sign of inflation! They cost $1 a bag, the same as they did 9 years ago – but the bags are 10 oz instead of 16 oz.
Anyway, Natalia made mochas instead of plain coffee this morning and that went very nicely with my oatmeal. LOL. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, 53 and light clouds in Bellingham. Nice to see some blue sky after hours of rain. I’m slow today, lots to do but energy is just not there. Oh well, I “know” I need to keep things more simple this year but I can’t seem to change my plans, so oh well. As a result of not doing very much I get the fun of creative thinking but not all of the work, so I guess that counts as simplifying :) Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 46 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 61. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We got over an inch of rain from the weekend storms which is wonderful for the earth. The sunny skies that emerged yesterday afternoon were welcome, however.
The Republicans ACA replacement “plan” is terrifying. They expect the same people who couldn’t be bothered to research that they were electing a personally disgusting man, a literal felon with plans to dismantle the Constitution, to micromanage their health care options. The idea of a Health Savings Account being how you cover the costs of you and your family’s health care is ludicrous – one bad injury or illness and that money is gone and your house will be next. It is the ultimate Libertarian ideation – if you live right and don’t get sick, you get to keep the money in the HSA. If you get sick, oh well. I hope someone exposes the plan for what it is but that seems unlikely given the state of the media. I guess the Republican congresspeople who voted to eliminate Medicaid will get to see their planned genocide of the poors a little early. Blast their hides.
I ended up in urgent care on Saturday and they gave me some antibiotics to clear up a bronchial infection. I already feel better and the coughing fits are less dramatic and painful. I have no idea where I got that but I am going to have to remember to mask when maintenance people come to my unit as it started after the ceiling repair visit. I was glad that it wasn’t the flu, wasn’t COVID and wasn’t pneumonia as I immunize against all of those for a reason! My Badger women’s basketball team won yesterday for their best start since 2018. They play in a tough conference so it is good to get some wins to give them confidence.
See all y’all later!
Glad it’s “just” a bronchial infection and that you’re already feeling better. Lots of Healing Energy. {{{HUGS}}}
Hope you feel better asap Jan. Deep coughing is exhausting. Good you got the needed meds.
Good morning. Monday of “someone has to keep the office open” week. I got in a good walk, still ridiculously warm for November.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s a marvelously clear, cool November day, a “Canadian lake” kind of day. Right now we have 45 F. in Ashburn, going up later to 60 F. I hope to get out to see Herself tonight. Have been too preoccupied and exhausted to keep up with Her until now.
Thank you for the kind words about the obit. I think I’ll use it as the basis of a completely nonreligious service I’m planning. One of my writers will read “The Dash” poem afterwards and I’m hoping to persuade a neighbor (male) to read “With Rue My Heart is Laden.” Then announcements and the Recessional music, which will be Enya’s “Lothlorien,” which I find very melancholy.
Have a shower to take, phone calls to make, and an apple tart not-to-bake. I’ll get it at Trader Joe’s. Oh, gods, I hope I can fob off the rest of that Trader Joe’s orange juice, which we had just opened before the last time Dearly went to the hospital, on Younger Son. I just tried a small glass of it, but I can’t stand that much acid hitting my stomach early in the morning. I hope Younger Son can find out about this alleged insurance payment from United Airlines. Dearly kept anxiously reminding me to call them after he departed this plane of existence. Young Nora has agreed to manually operate the musical excerpts during the service. I need to write a script and give it to her and The Boyz.
I’d better get on with things. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
{{{Diana}}} Your plans sound very good, very wise, very caring. It’s good to be busy while you’re adjusting. (Can you eat yogurt? Making a yogurt smoothie with the orange juice and Greek yogurt makes a very quick and fairly high protein/relatively low calorie meal.) Holding you in my heart. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
In the olden days, companies used to have life insurance for their employees to help their families. I remember a friend whose father who had worked for an older company passed away and they got an insurance check. He was collecting a pension from the company so the check found them pretty quickly. Of course, pensions and life insurance benefits are a thing of the past.
Well, he took a smaller pension from Fairfax County so I could have survivor’s benefits, and the life insurance, although not huge, is still a help. He would have had a lot of life insurance but they abruptly terminated it when he turned 90. Talk about prejudice against the Olds!
Hope the antibiotic is making you feel better, Jan.
It’s 52 heading for 57 and overcast. We’ve already gotten almost 1/2″ rain with more coming this morning. According to the widget anyway. I believe the cloudy all day part. Not sure all the rain part. Anyway, it cleared off yesterday and we generated 7.41 KWHs. The m-t-d at 144.5 is on track and gained a little. Which is good since we’re not likely to see the sun at all today.
I’m taking my cat to the vet – his monthly arthritis shot – this afternoon. That, I hope, will be my last expenditure of funds for any reason until next Sunday probably (groceries/protein) and I’m really hoping I can put even that off several days longer. It will depend on how many leftovers I have from the Thanksgiving “plate dinner” my family brings me. LOL. Meanwhile there’s boosting to do and I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 53 and cloudy in Bellingham. I’ve got TDay prep to do today and a haircut this afternoon. If I can stay on track with the prep my “easier” TDay may be a fun day with family. Our son will be on turkey cooking duty, and I’ll make the gravy and stuffing on Wednesday. Best wishes to all.
It cooled off overnight, if I was in the office, I’d be wearing long sleeves. It would be a nice morning for a walk, but I like the slight sleep-in on wfh days.
Tuesday Meese. For the first time in decades am not cooking for Thanksgiving. We are going to a friends house.

It’s 53 heading for 60 and overcast today. I do see a few patches of hazy blue so maybe it will clear off. I hope. Yesterday we generated. 1.84 KWHs and the m-t-d at 146.34 is still on track. Barely. We’ve 6 generating days left in November and most of them look to be cloudy. Sigh. Still, we are only 24 KWHs away from making the 180 goal. We shall see what we shall see.
It’s always hard to keep a grasp on what day it is during a holiday week. LOL. But whatever day it is (Tuesday, right?) I have boosting to do so I’d best be about it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese. It’s currently 47 F. in Ashburn under cloudy skies. It’ll get up to 70 F. today! Rain is expected later. Thank goodness I don’t need to go anywhere today and can walk inside the buildings to do my errands.
Well, I did accomplish a couple of things yesterday besides laundry. I got rid of the wheelchair, the rollator thing, and lots of medical supplies (bandages). A volunteer from the MAD closet (mobile access devices) picked them up. I contacted the life insurance people at Fairfax County. Yes, he did have some life insurance. Not much, but some. Hoping to hear from the Fairfax County pension people today. Got in touch with the oxygen people, and they’ve scheduled a pickup for December 1.
Oh, my! Someone just delivered a HUGE arrangement of flowers from the Australian Branch! I’ll take a photo presently and thank them. It’s virtually a whole flower garden of roses and things. Wow.
I have to get ready to go to the box office at 10 and then the insurance lady. There’s so much to deal with!
Last night I was enjoying the latest Georgiana novel, From Cradle to Grave in the green chair, and keeping an ear cocked for the “Who Killed JFK?” program on telly. It was an evening like any other except that he wasn’t there. And I can’t call or text him, as I did when he was in the hospital. There are no hotspots in heaven, as far as I know. I’m OK until someone mentions how sorry they are, then I choke up.
Well, now that I’ve cheered y’all up, I’ll wish everyone at the Pond a good day. See y’all later!
{{{Diana}}} Step by step and day by day, things get done. When Momma died, back before cells phones and all the instant communications we have now, a friend said “She’s just gone where Ma Bell doesn’t have service.” And I actually found that comforting. Like when my ancestors set out from Scotland for Pennsylvania – the “folks back home” didn’t even know whether they’d made it for years. And the Rev. Mr. Boyd didn’t know how they were doing “back home” either. But everybody was still there, going about their own lives where they were, even though they couldn’t communicate. That’s all that’s going on now. Don’s gone someplace there’s no cell coverage. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 45 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I’ve got a bucket of flowers waiting for me to arrange, a table ready to set, food waiting to be prepped and I’m just waking up. Oh well, I’ll do what I can and then take another nap. Best wishes to all.
Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 64 in Tucson and very sunny. I haven’t been able to take a walk in a few days but today I made one lap around the complex and sat and baked in the sun for about 15 minutes. It felt good to stretch my legs but I am not comfortable. I have found a set of drugs that are letting me sleep and be cough free overnight. The sleep feels healing.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Full day working today, but at least I have wfh. I’m taking an early lunch to go to kickboxing, it’s my 100th workout & they’ll take my picture.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday that will feel like a Friday …
It is 50 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 72. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I hope to get a full afternoon walk in today.
Tomorrow, we will celebrate that we can still be thankful for many things and that, at least temporarily, we can ignore the rest of it. I hope that those harmed by the terrible actions of the tRump malAdministration have a moment of peace and that their prayers for an end to the daily pain and chaos are answered. Even in the darkest days of our nation’s history, we emerged each time – changed but not beaten. Goddess help us all survive these dark times.
Basketball tournaments today and volleyball matches tonight! It will be a good sports watching day.
See all y’all later!
I’m pissed my SC Gamecocks game today against Duke is not on TV. Will have to watch it via YouTube.
It is on truTV which happens to be one of the channels included in my streaming services. They often cover women’s sports that the main broadcast channels won’t.
Wednesday Meese.
