Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 46 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. Two of our initiates are celebrating their first birthdays in the priesthood today – so I’ll be heading there this afternoon.
Puerto Rico
We were supposed to get huge scary storms overnight. We’re getting the teeniest bit of rain now. I set my mint out for water, it probably won’t even get enough. Anyway, tea is steeping and after church I’ll make next week’s dinner (quinoa with vegetables, plain yogurt & mozzarella). Should be a nice day.

Happy Easter Sunday to all who celebrate it! Good morning, Moosekind. It’s 69 F. here in Ashburn, and the sun is trying to come out from behind the clouds but not succeeding very well. It’s going to be windy again.
Feeling sad because my acting colleague ended up in the ER yesterday with a diagnosis of shingles, and sick because my tummy is acting up again. We’re going to skip the Easter brunch here because I don’t feel like eating. Don’t feel like doing much of anything, actually, but I will get washed and brushed for the day.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate it. It’s 64 heading for 69 overcast and raining. Not as dark or as hard as earlier so the PV system is actually on but that’s about it. Yesterday we generated 5.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 265.48 is not on track and losing ground. The only day this month we’ve been on track was the 1st. April Fool’s Day indeed.
Between the rain, the decongestant I took last night, and the lack of sleep I’ve had lately I slept almost 10 hours. I’m still a bit groggy. And I’ve given “don’t want to do it” self permission to not vacuum/do Sunday housecleaning chores – even though my “want it done” self isn’t happy. Need to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. When I got up at waytooearly a.m. the moon had not risen yet. I just checked and she is there, just a little under half illumination, with the mists that rise over the mountains around her. A lovely sight!
I was sad to see the breaking news about Pope Francis’ passing. I am not a fan of his church but he was a breath of fresh air after the rancid Benedict, enabler of terrible people. I had read something a while ago that said he purged the College of Cardinals of the types of men that elected and supported the last pope and that the current group would not diverge too much from the type of ministry that Francis had. I hope it is someone who is strong against fascism and especially the current United States government and their Catholic “point man” JD Doodiehad Vance. The silence of Pope Pius XII during Hitler’s genocides and atrocities should not be repeated by the next pope as he surveys the current embrace of fascism and right-wing hatred. A lot of American Catholics, like Vance and his ilk, despised Francis because he was kind to human beings, respected the earth and refused to bow down to the dictator of the day. He will be missed for that.
I was up early because I had a bunch of unfinished things from the weekend’s projects spinning around in my head, not allowing me to fall back asleep when I woke up. I feel better having gotten ahead of what is sure to be a busy day.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Had a really terrible night’s sleep, but I got up & did my walk/run. Yesterday was nice, my church always does Easter up big, and our pastor preached quite a sermon about love and justice — she got a standing ovation. Here’s hoping I can stay awake all day today.
Monday Meese. Woke up to the news of Pope Francis passing. Will be looking at the front-runners for his replacement.

Good Monday morning, Moosekind!
Cloudy and 61 F. in Ashburn. It’s irritating the way the sky darkens so that it looks as if it might rain (which we need badly), but then lightens up again. Faugh.
Was amazed to wake up and see on my phone that the Pope died! It seems like only yesterday—well, in fact, it was yesterday—that he was out in the square in Vatican City, giving his blessing to the Easter crowds. Hope that the next pope will be like John XXXIII.
Still feeling very sad that my fellow actor is out of the play and we have to hastily rearrange scenes. Musicals here at the Home for the Aged seem to be CURSED. Anyway, I’ll be reading my scripts this morning while Mr. Tony works on my pedicure. I’m wondering whether to even bother getting my hair done, considering I’ll have to ram the wig over it every night this week. First-world problems!
I started the slow-burning candle spell for my colleague to recover quickly. He’s out of the play, of course, because shingles takes quite a while to leave, but I’m hoping he’ll be able to leave the hospital and even go to his other house by the sea. Few things are as de-stressing as being by the ocean.
My neighbor down the hall left some chocolate Easter eggs on our outside shelf this morning, saying she hoped they’d help with the egg shortage. I sent her a thank-you email, telling her we badly needed the eggs and fried a few for breakfast, with amazing results!
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and hope, health, and healing to all who need it.
I remember John the XXIII! He was the pope during my early childhood and his beaming happy face was everywhere, filling peoples hearts with joy. He was not just a smiling guy, he promoted meaningful change, turning the priest around to face the congregation, reaching out to other religions. They expected him to be a caretaker Pope, filling in until Pope Paul VI was old enough to ascend to the seat. John had other ideas. :)
Sounds like JD Vance might have killed him. Right after he met with Vance and had to listen to his bullcrap, he stroked out and died. :(
It’s 53 heading for 76 and overcast at the moment. Yesterday we generated 7.46 KWHs and the m-t-d at 272.93 is still losing ground. At least I’m generating enough to cover what I’m using.
That was a jolt – hearing about Pope Francis. It was a nice respite to have a decent person in that position. We shall see who gets in there next. And hope for the best. Or at least hoping we don’t get any more Hitler Youth or like people in there.
Running late because I got a phone call from a friend this morning while I was fixing (and eating) breakfast. It’s really too warm to be doing laundry in the house but it’s not warm enough early enough to hang it outside. So I guess I’ll do it inside with a fire going but the windows and carport door open. LOL. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 48 and cloudy in Bellingham. Our family party on Saturday was fun and Easter dinner yesterday was tasty, but I am so weary. I see the dentist this morning for the next step in the implant process then I’ll rest and enjoy the Easter flowers and treats. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday, Earth Day …
It is 59 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Perfect spring weather in the Old Pueblo.
I am sure a lot of American Catholics, especially the Republicans, are not sorry to see Pope Francis’ passing. Francis cared about people and adhered to the long time papal edicts against wars and the death penalty and, despite JD Vance’s amateur theology “pronouncements”, he believed in the value of every human being and that it is on us to care for refugees and feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless. They saw him as a “lefty liberal commie”! I hope his replacement is just as committed to preserving our planet and taking care of those who need help as Francis was. I was reading the short list and there are some promising candidates and also some real clunkers. We, meaning people who care about the earth and the dignity of all people, just have to hope that the African Bishops are passed over.
I finally got a handle on the project I have been working on over the past week and I have a plan to finish it. Today, I need to step back and get some accounting work done and try to get my Inbox under control.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Happy Earth Day. Just a quick hello before I get ready for work.
It’s 64 heading for 82 and mostly sunny. Yesterday we generated 20.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 293.8 gained some ground. With 9 production days left in April we’ve at least got a chance to go over the 335 the 2.5K system did back in April of 2015.
Yesterday’s laundry was probably the last to be in the house until next September or possibly October. Even with the windows open it was 82 in the house with the fire going. But laundry was dry and put away before bedtime. LOL. I also moved the last bit of this winter’s firewood off the pallet to make room for the first load of next year’s firewood. Managed to not bash my hands doing it. I fell instead. Not all the way to the ground. And heaven only knows how I managed to hit the outside of my left lower leg hard enough to bring up a goose-egg knot and hit my mid-upper right leg (there’s a smaller bruise there & no swelling) as well as dinging my right wrist catching myself. I guess I’m talented that way. Anyway, the swelling’s already mostly gone and the bruises will fade in time. And I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
OMG, bfitz! What a rotten thing to happen! Hope you recover swiftly. Falls are so dangerous and sometimes, are difficult to avoid.
oh my goodness – sending all good thoughts your way!
Good morning, 48 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. I have a haircut this morning and if I can stay awake I’ll work in the garden with Bri this afternoon. What started as a brief rest turned into an all afternoon nap yesterday so I’ll see what happens today. Best wishes to all.
Good Tuesday afternoon, Meese! It’s 77 F. outside on a moderately sunny day. It certainly beats what we’re used to seeing.
This morning I played the part of Donkey in the Earth Day play, “Animals vs. Humanity.” Although our audience was small, it was most appreciative. Afterwards, I attended a q-and-a session. I wore a beautiful scarf that my daughter gave me, made out of recycled plastic bottles. A First Nations artist designed and made it. The money from selling the scarves goes to a fund for missing and murdered First Nations women. Everyone I showed the scarf to thought it was beautiful.
Just came back from getting a haircut, etc., to find that my face is swelling AGAIN! OMG! What IS this mysterious allergy? I quickly called the med. center for a refill of Prednisone, which will stop the swelling. In the meantime I used an OTC remedy that is really intended for another part of the body. It promises to reduce swelling without surgery. (You know what I mean.)
We open on Thursday, but tomorrow night we will have a special audience from what Dearly refers to as “The Luny Bin.” It’s not, really, it’s catered living and assisted living. I don’t suppose the Memory Care patients will be coming.
Blessed be all those who are ill and suffering, may they be healed. Blessings on our beautiful Gaia and thanks for all Her gifts. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning. Last night, I threw together a diary at the orange place about the AIDS Ride. It didn’t get much attention, but I did get 2 donations. Really got to get some exercise today.
Sorry I missed it! Was asleep
I’m up to 83% of my goal raised. Not bad.
I’m in shock. Woke up early and found my BKos rant at the top of the wreck list
Puerto Rico
Thank you for going after the left-of-the-left fools who are bashing Pope Francis. They will likely never see another pope that is as good hearted as Francis, who cares about the earth and her people as much as he did. Get a clue, doodieheads! If the right-wing hated Francis that should be a sign that he was doing something right. His church has done some terrible things but he is not being bashed for that, he is being bashed for caring and for pushing back against the christianists who wear ginormous honking crosses but want to starve the hungry and punish the homeless – and stateless. Bastids.
It was definitely a solid righteous rant. It deserves to be on the wreck list. {{{Dee}}}
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon right now is a pretty waning crescent at just under 25% illumination high over my mountains in the blue skies. She will be new on April 27 at 12:31pm MST.
I went to bed late and was up early to finish a project that needed to be done before the workday began in CDT. I have a few things to tidy up before they fall out of my brain.
See all y’all later!
