Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 20th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind, and happy Shakespeare’s 461st birthday! It’s a delightful morning here, 60 F. now, on its way to 79 F. Blue skies, sunshine, and not much wind, only 5-10 mph. Actually, it would be a perfect day to start my garden but I’m too busy.

    Had the night from hell—I have been visited by the same affliction as last year. This involves a horrible itching on my stomach, which leads to my scratching, which in turn leads to swelling and redness. I hope I get that prednisone prescription TODAY. Meanwhile, I have a prescription left over from last year that helps, but I can use it only twice a day.

    We are all under so much stress it’s unbelievable. The actor who was a shiftless cowboy until four days ago is now a hotel proprietor and my romantic interest. I have to tell him how awful he is before snatching his Stetson off his head, putting it on my own head, and proclaiming “MARRY ME!” I put the Stetson on sideways last night, so will have to work on that. Last night’s rehearsal went a little better, but I have to tell the new Lank not to smile at me while I’m abusing him verbally.

    Anyway, enough of this theatrical chitchat. Had the night from hell, of course, from leaping out of bed to stamp on the floor (luckily there are no apartments under us) because of leg cramps. The carpet cleaners texted Dearly and said they’d be here between 12 and 6. Bummer. I have to be dressed and in Makeup at 6 sharp. May not get dinner today.

    Wishing a good St. George’s Day to all who celebrate it, and a good day to all at the Pond. Nothing but doom lies beyond, I fear. Blessed be.

  2. It’s 62 heading for 82 and trying to be sunny. Clouds are moving in. Possibility of rain for the rest of the month but whether or not we get precipitation, we will get clouds. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 20.2 KWHS and the m-t-d at 314.2 gained a little.

    Bruises are still uncomfortable but the swelling on my left leg is going down so that’s good. Got milk yesterday and it’s still on the 2-gallons/$6 sale so that’s good too. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good morning, 48 and the sun is shinning on my garden today. I did clip ivy with Bri yesterday afternoon, but she is young and strong so she does most of the work. I clipped the low stems, she did the rest and then cleaned up all the clippings while I put my leg up. Gardening while 80 is humbling. I don’t have plans for today so I’ll listen to music for a while and then find something to do. Best wishes to all.

  4. Good morning. I was running a bit late, so just a 20 minute walk for exercise — but that’s better than nothing. There’s a neat planetary convergence this morning and tomorrow, but even walking on the roof of a 4-story parking garage, I can’t see the horizon. Bummer.

  5. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 59 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I slept a little later than usual and my snooziness was rewarded by the perfect image of the waning crescent side by side with the Morning Star just over the mountains in the pre-dawn semi-darkness as I surveyed my skies.

    The Internets say that the Melon is going to leave Washington to spend more time with his family, oh wait, actually with his failing automobile manufacturing business that he irreparably damaged by flying his white supremacist hate flag and driving away his entire customer base. I feel no sympathy for the investors in Tesla who lost money – they followed a person (not a plan) and a person who is a self-proclaimed genius but without doing the important research: what kind of human being is he? Turns out he is one of the worst people in the world, a sociopath whose entire world view revolves around preserving white male dominance. I am not going to believe he is truly gone until his entire Department of Gawdawful Excretions is shut down and the white male incels running it are fired and sent home to their mother’s basements.

    I have many things to do today as yesterday I was so tired from the late night and early morning I had spent on my client’s project that I just moved from place to place. After a good nights sleep, I am ready to carpe diem.

    See all y’all later!

    • Love this:

      …my snooziness was rewarded by the perfect image of the waning crescent side by side with the Morning Star just over the mountains in the pre-dawn semi-darkness as I surveyed my skies.

      Lyrical!

  6. Depending on the widget I look at it’s either 59 or 68 (my bet is somewhere in between actually) heading for 77 and although we started out bright and sunny the clouds are already moving in. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 12.73 and the m-t-d at 327 is losing ground. We’ve 7 production days left in April. We shall see what we get.

    Rocky night and later start than I’m happy about. Oh well. It doesn’t really matter I guess. Early or late, my boosting doesn’t seem to be getting/keeping people housed or fed. But I’ll keep doing it anyway. Just in case. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  7. Good Thursday morning, Meese! We open at 3 p.m. today, and I have to be in Makeup at 1:20. That’s just enough time to prepare a light lunch for Dearly and moi.

    Yesterday was as perfect as perfect can be! Flawless blue sky, and so forth and NO WIND. Many, many dogs were out walking their owners. We had a high of 81 F. and expect the same today. Right now it’s 78 F.

    Today is not quite so fair but it’s OK. Wind up to 11 mph. I walked to the woodworking shop this morning and received a highly interesting tour. Some pieces of equipment looked like miniature guillotines but weren’t. Many were marked with a “2” inside an orange circle, meaning “Don’t use this machine unless there’s someone else in the shop with you.”

    In exchange, I rehearsed my actor colleague’s lines with him. He’s doing quite well for someone who didn’t know he had to step into this role until Saturday!

    Got to get moving. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  8. Good morning. Did my walk/run, it is incredibly humid out, wish it would rain. Anyway, Friday, in the office. I know we’re one short (he got sick yesterday so I assume he’s not coming today). I got a coupon for a free dozen cookies from the fancy cookie place, they’re being delivered at noon. That’s one way to make it through the day.

  9. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The crescent moon and the Morning Star continue their dance, with Venus now above the moon and slightly to the right. I wish I had a good moon photograph camera because the image is stunning.

    Senator Dick “Dick” Durbin will be retiring and one of the leading candidates is the Lt. Governor of Illinois, a Black woman who was allied with Barack Obama for some of her early runs for the legislature. She was the primary caregiver for her mother who had Alzheimer’s so she understands the lives of ordinary people. Dick “Dick” Durbin is responsible for the failure to get Obama judges confirmed with his blind allegiance to Senate Comity being allowed to override the will of the people and the needs of the people. He will not be missed, at least by me.

    I am seeing little glimmers of hope. The Felon is very unhappy about his approval ratings which means he still reacts to being unloved and, at this point, despised. Will that make him back off his plans to dismantle the federal government and install himself as a dictator? We can hope. It turns out that the “savings” that Chainsaw Melon Husk is claiming for his DOGE was not netted into the costs to fire employees, cancel government contracts and manage the on-again off-again on-again chaos he created. I suspect he has no understanding of cost accounting which may explain why his businesses are sinking, his vehicles are starting on fire and his rocket ships are blowing up.

    I found it interesting to note that the states that have gone full MAGAt Red are finding that they have no leverage to get anything special from the federal government. Arkansas wanted a major disaster declaration for the tornado outbreak that resulted in the loss of life and significant property damage. The feds said no and letters from the Arkansas Senators were ignored. Those Senators, and any House members, know that if they complain, they will be primaried. The cult requires complete obedience, constituents be damned. It will not change anyone’s minds because most of those people have stopped caring about their neighbors and their own families as they bow to their king. Sad, really.

    It is finally Friday and I only have to deal with irritating people for another day and then I can work on the things I want to work on. I have no football team so the NFL Draft was entertainment only in so far was watching pompous aholes get their comeuppance and drop in the draft order. It was disgusting that the Green Bay Packers, who hosted the draft, felt the need to mention tRump. Barf!

    See all y’all later!

  10. It’s 64 heading for 79, mostly overcast, and very humid. I’ll believe the rain prediction when I see it fall from the sky. Yesterday we generated 9.16 KWHs, which is at least more than I use in a day, and the m-t-d at 335.63 lost more ground.

    We may or may not get rain daily for the next 10, but we’ll certainly have clouds. Although it seems to be trying to clear off at the moment. It would be nice. I enjoy rain and even storms while they’re happening but constant overcast is very depressing. Sinusitis flare sometime in the wee hours. Not entirely sure how much sleep I got because I didn’t check the time but it definitely wasn’t 8 hours. Or even 7. Very worried about several people I’ve been boosting. Disabled, already living in fairly uncomfortable situations, and about to become homeless if some folks don’t step up with the rent. Sigh. Nothing I can do but boost. Which I’d best be about doing. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  11. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s a fairish day with bluish skies and tentative sunlight. Our present temp is 68 F., going up to 80 F.

    Yesterday we opened with a matinee. It wasn’t a full house (it rarely is in the afternoon), but the audience LOVED it! They laughed, they clapped, they reacted most satisfactorily. Afterwards we stood in the reception line in the lobby outside the theater. One woman came up to me and said, “I hated you.” Well, the character of Irene is a rich, snobby bitch. I was furious because, out of 7 Makeup Ladies, only two showed up! Grrr! Tonight I’ll do my own makeup. I was late for Vocal Warmup before the show, which I’m sure got me into the Director’s bad books. Anyway, we have an evening performance tonight and tomorrow night. The actor who stepped into the role of acidulous hotel proprietor because of the original actor’s illness does not want to let go of my hand when we’re acting like newlyweds.

    Jan, you continue to delight me with statements such as this:

    The crescent moon and the Morning Star continue their dance, with Venus now above the moon and slightly to the right. I wish I had a good moon photograph camera because the image is stunning.

    Bfitz, I hear you about clouds with no rain. I adore rain myself, but not endless days of clouds that are bone-dry. Tonight I won’t get to see Her because we “may” have showers. Like you, I’ll believe it when I see it.

    Today is “Turn back your expired and unused pills” day, so I’ll do that. Then I plan to walk to the dog park, because lilacs are growing outside the fence. Wonder whether I’ll see any? This has been a long, cold winter so they’ll have liked that, but I do wonder whether they’ll be in bloom.

    Sent love and healing light white to all the people on my list. I hope no one else falls ill, I only have 15 fingers!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • The spring blooms are a reward for surviving the winters. Here the winters are less dramatic but the blooms are here nonetheless. The birds are bustling around, feeding babies and chirping up a storm and the cactus flowers are blooming now, adding bright red, orange and yellow splashes of color to the desert landscape. The ocotillos are one of my favorites, a tall thin multi-stem cactus with gorgeous orange flowers. I see a stand of them daily on my morning walk enjoying the blossoms while they last.

  12. Good morning, 51 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. Sorry to be so quiet this week, but the combo of fatigue and must do tasks seems to have used all my energy. It’s nice to get a few things done but I’m struggling with feeling so weary. Oh well, I have a quiet morning today and I hope to go for a walk by the water this afternoon. Best wishes to all.

  13. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. It is too early to see my moon as she has not yet risen over the mountains. I will check later.

    The losses and surrenderings from the Felon and his political party’s blatant attack on Good Government are starting to stack up. Yesterday they got smacked down by judges in multiple states over their cancellation of foreign student’s visas. The “justice” departments lawyers could not explain to a judge in Tucson how cancelling their visas caused the students no harm and their case was dismissed. Now the order from Bondi’s Brownshirts is to drop those cases nationwide. There are still going to be losses for us and, really, the federal governments is still being dismantled and will never be the same, but so far the courts are holding and people are starting to wake up and get ticked off. The next step is for Republican electeds to realize that following their captain off a sinking ship, or a ship that will drift listlessly for 4 years, may not be in their best interests politically. If they force his craptastic budget bill through Congress, a bill that will codify the DOGE cuts that the Rotten Melon put in place, they will own the economic downturn and the needless deaths. Even John McCain, a guy who was red to his inner core, couldn’t bring himself to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and cancel millions of people’s healthcare. Are there three Senators willing to do the same this year to save Medicaid, ACA cuts, Medicare and Social Security? We shall see.

    The past week was difficult as client work made me tired and crabby. I am hoping for a reset this weekend where I can control my own time and get some accounting projects done.

    See all y’all later!

      • It is a big deal here because Arizona is one of the states that accepted the Medicaid money but only if the federal government kept its subsidies in place. If they are removed, Medicaid is dead in Arizona – and millions will suffer. Even the sociopathic Republicans in our state legislature are not immune to the optics of hurting people – they just blinked and gave Governor Katie Hobbs a win on funding aid for disability programs that had been lost after a federal program ended. Everyone in the state is up for election in 2026 and there will be no place to hide.

  14. Good morning. Busy day ahead: exercise, groceries, cooking. I’m switching up breakfast next week, gonna go back to overnight oats at least for this week. But first, kickboxing.

  15. Good Saturday morning, Meese! Last night, after the show was over and I had come home to divest myself of wig, dress, shoes, etc. (not to mention the stage makeup), it rained. I went out to the porch to listen. It was raining steadily. Most satisfactory, but why doesn’t it rain in the daytime when we can enjoy it?

    This morning we have gray skies and 68 F., heading toward a high of 77 F. Went out to the porch just now and detected the scent and sound of a light shower. The trees in the woods across the way are still half-dressed in fashionable spring green. I didn’t have time to visit the lilacs, if any, yesterday: will try tomorrow, which is a day off.

    The show went well last night, although poor Lank was late with one of his entrances and forgot his lines at one point. I recovered for him, though. That guy, bless his heart, seems determined not to let go of my frail hand, even in the Reception Line after the show! I hope he remembers to drop it tonight, because his wife is coming to see the play. We received a standing “O” from the left side of the audience. Tonight one of the people who came through the reception line said she loved my character, Irene. Makes a nice change from the previous day, when an audience member told me, “I hated you.”

    My grandson is driving all the way from Ohio (a 7-hour drive) to see me in the Thursday matinee! Well, he’s not coming just to see his old granny, my daughter will attend both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s performances, so he’ll stay with her in the air b-and-b.

    Would like to go to the gym and then visit Harris Teeter. They still carry makeup. I’m going to keep doing my own, since the Makeup Ladies are so careless about showing up. Grrr! (First-world problem, I know.)

    Can’t BELIEVE Trumpity has arrested a JUDGE! We are now officially a third-world, sh*thole country!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing white light to all those who are ill.

  16. It’s 59 heading for 76, overcast and supposed to rain today. Which I’ll believe when I see it. Yesterday cleared off for a goodly while. Long enough to generate 17.35 KWHs and the m-t-d at 352.83 gained a little. And is ahead of the 335 of the 2.5K system back in ’15.

    Rocky night. Late getting to sleep and early up. Couldn’t sleep after about 6 am – didn’t check the time until I gave up and got up but that was only 6:30. Sigh. So I got up and cleaned my bathroom before getting dressed and starting my regular day (feeding cats, dealing with litterboxes, then fixing breakfast). Now of course I’m groggy as all get out. Oh well. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Bfitz, sorry you aren’t getting your sleep. Can you take a nap after lunch? One of the doctors here says everyone over 80 needs a nap during the day. I know you haven’t arrived at that age yet, but who’s going to tell? Not I!

      Or perhaps take sleeping pills? Not the baddies, just the not-so-heavy-duty ones. At any rate, I feel for you. Few things are worse than beginning the day without enough sleep.

      • {{{Diana}}} I’ve never been able to take naps. Sleeping in the daytime seems to give me a skull-banging headache so I do my best not to. The lack of sleep is usually sinus related. But yes, it’s a pain to be short on sleep.

  17. Good morning, 47 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. My friend is recovering from her cancer treatment, yay! She just called to invite me to go for a drive with her this afternoon so I’m feeling very grateful. And good news from Sophia…..she will be attending Reed College next fall. She has worked very hard for this opportunity and fortunately scholarships are making it possible. Music will continue to be part of her life but her goal is to have an MD or PH.D focusing on neurology. Emma is finishing her training in imaging technology this spring, Ava is enrolled in a nursing program and Ryan is enjoying his work in medical massage. My grandkids are all young adults now, how can that be! Best wishes to all.
