Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 15th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

  2. Good morning. Didn’t go to the protest here, but it looks like 20,000 others did and it was peaceful and fun. And many of the small towns around Austin had their own protests — from the news coverage, with minimal pushback. Hope everyone has a good day today!

  3. It’s 70 heading for 79/heat index 82 or 68 heading for 84/heat index 86 depending on which widget I look at. Either way it’s overcast and we may or may not get more rain later. Yesterday we generated 6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 217.87 lost more ground. The best I can say for it is that since the A/C didn’t kick on yesterday, we generated what we used.

    My friend’s still at the farm. I expect her home this evening. I expect my son over this afternoon with produce from Sam’s Club. And I’m so glad Diana’s safely home. The only thing I know of going on with anybody is that Michele Wilson over at DK, well, her 20-y.o. black cat Pixie crossed The Bridge yesterday. And I’m not entirely sure that Pixie wasn’t all that’s holding her here.

    Meanwhile, my vacuuming is done, I’m eating my oatmeal, and I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good morning, 52 and sunny outside my windows today. Diana I’ve been absent for a few days, so relieved to read that you are ok and recovering at home. Sending healing thoughts and hugs.

    Yesterday was a very nice family day. It was so good to be in Lisa’s home and garden again and to celebrate our grand girls’ graduations. We ended the day sharing boxes of Ron’s mom’s china and antiques so that was nice too. It was a long day for my old legs so I’ll rest this morning and then bake something for our Dad’s Day dinner this evening. Best wishes to all.

  5. Good Sunday afternoon, Moosekind! It’s a super-ugly day here in Ashburn, overcast but not even raining. Temperature is 68 F. We had to hustle to get washed, brushed, and dressed to attend the Father’s Day brunch at the restaurant down the hall and around the corner. We went early so we could get out early. Then we went home to take a nap before the F1 race. It ended in a most satisfactory manner, as George Russell, the Englishman, won. Now I feel strong enough to deal with the evening’s work.

    Gaining weight with every breath I take now that I’m not exercising. Hope everyone at the Pond has had a good day!

  6. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 106. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I was up earlier than usual and I saw my moon this morning throwing light onto my deck! I stood at the railing and bathed in moonbeams to begin my day.

    In a Not Shocking At All development, ICE is going to stop targeting farm workers and move their operations to only cities in Blue states. I really do think that the plan is for armed confrontation that allows tRump to declare martial law and remove governors and mayors from power. We saw a hint of it in Florida when Gov. ShortManSyndrome, in a completely illegal move, removed duly elected local prosecutors who he disliked. The courts said “that’s fine” and the rule of law was further diminished. All I can say is that any Democrat who votes for or supports a Republican Party initiative or tries to make common cause with any Republican is a fool and harms our democracy. We’ll be watching.

    I have many things to do today which is why I got up early. My clients are two time zones away and the early morning work is starting to get tiring. I am aiming for taking actual time off from all work – I will claim that I am on vacation – for a week in July. That means wrapping up some projects.

    See all y’all later!

  7. Good morning. Finally feeling normal, just in time for the work week. Got in a good long walk, now I’m in the office getting ready for work. Happy Monday, y’all!

  9. It’s 70 heading for 85 and ATM overcast enough the PV system went back into night mode. sigh. Yesterday we generated 11.25 KWHs and the m-t-d at 228.52 lost some more ground. But the A/C didn’t come on yesterday so we’re still covering what we use and banking a little towards a day when it does.

    My friend drove by “the house” yesterday on her way from the farm in the hopes he’d be gone and she could at least run in long enough to grab some clothing. Nope. He was definitely there. A new bright red RAV4 (seems he likes RAV4s after driving hers for 11 years) was park across the driveway, taking up both spaces. What a jerk. Anyway, the younger cats are getting enough used to having her in the house that they will come into a room when she’s there. They still take off when she comes into the house, or a room in it, but they come back after a few minutes. Progress.

    Meanwhile, she’s off to her work and I’d best be off to mine. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  10. Good morning, 50 and light clouds in Bellingham today. I rested the day away yesterday, but I did manage to bake some treats for Ron. However Elsa thought they were for her, oops! I’ve been baking a favorite shortbread cookie dough in cup cake holders and adding different toppings because gf shortbread is easier than a pie crust and the servings are smaller. Apparently Elsa prefers chocolate ganache with almonds over apple pie filling with raisins and walnuts :) I had to toss 2, but I could save 6, and Elsa was not sorry. Time to water the garden. As always, my best wishes to all.

  11. Good morning. Not much going on, I think people are still processing all that went on over the weekend. Also, it’s ten million degrees out, and doesn’t cool off overnight. Happy to be at home today & tomorrow.

    • One comment I saw yesterday makes a lot of sense – the visuals from those rallies put a lie to the “only crazed bomb throwing lunatics are deranged anti-Trumpers.” The photos I saw, and everyone else saw, were of individuals and families and rather ordinary looking people of all colors and shapes and sizes in red states and blue states, gathering to protest King Doodiehead, installed by the Roberts Court and given the power to destroy our democracy by the Republican Party cult. I hope it creates a true bandwagon effect that forces the Republicans to stop enabling the Felon and his idiot cabinet.

  12. It’s 69 heading for 89/heat index 95 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 15.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 244.4 lost a little more ground. And the A/C kicked on at 4:40. So probably generated enough to cover usage. Probably.

    Since it decided to be sunny – or at least partly cloudy with no rain chance – I’m doing laundry today. It’s in the machine washing as I type. I was afraid I’d have to do the laundromat (no dryer & can’t dry anything inside in this humidity) but there’s a reprieve at least for this time. Anyway, I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Wrong on the weather. At 11:45 it started to rain. Fortunately it started to thunder at 11:30 and I got the clothes back inside before it did. Still slightly damp so they’re on the drying racks and hopefully will finish drying without souring. Sigh.

  13. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Time to shift all errands to mornings only as the afternoon is just too darned hot. I have been taking my walk at 7am instead of 8am but I will soon have to shift it to 6am – it simply does not cool down enough overnight when it is over 100 during the day. I did see my moon again this morning as she wanes into the last quarter.

    Not much to say. The demented fool running America’s foreign policy is sending social media posts to the 9 million people living in Tehran to evacuate immediately. It is too bad that there is no sane person with power who realizes that the literal fallout from a nuclear war in the Middle East, or anywhere, really, will not be limited to that one region. Goddess help us.

    I have project work today and one errand that I hope to run before it gets too hot. There will be sporting events to watch on TV today, thank goodness; yesterday there were none. My WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, is doing well and beat the Evil Empire on Sunday, Kah Copper is back – yay! – and we were looking more like ourselves. We play again tomorrow against the hapless Connecticut Sun.

    See all y’all later!

  14. Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s election day. We already voted, for the Democrats who’ll be on the ballot as Lt. Governor and AG in November. It’s 71 F. outside and yet another nugly gray day. It evidently rained before dawn. Is this summer? You coulda fooled me.

    Recovering from a heart attack seems to be a full-time job, what with endless surveys, follow-up doctor appointments, and online pleadings to use MyChart. Dear Goddess! On top of all this I’m trying to find the cast of characters for my play on Saturday. Many of the people who signed up for Reader Theater are always out of town. Duh.

    Among my other first-world problems are trying to complete the Summer Solstice ritual—we’re not calling it “Litha” any more, that’s a Gerald Farrar invention—and figure out the music. Keep hoping that the cloudy weather and drizzle will put off the Garden Party tomorrow. If they go ahead with it, I will have to bake cookies.

    Did you know the VA hospitals will no longer treat unmarried people and WOMEN? Eff them. And if that SAVE act passes, thereby preventing married women from voting, I will take to the streets with a flame thrower and torch all the Rethug Congresspeople I can find.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

    • {{{Diana}}} Recovering from a heart attack IS a full-time job. That’s not being helped by all the “required” paperwork and other crap that’s supposed to make you think it’s the medical industrial complex doing the healing rather than you. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  15. Good afternoon, 53 and clear in Bellingham today. I’ve rested my throbbing knees this morning but now it’s time for some distraction. I’ve got ivy to clip and that’s an easy after noon task. Then I’ll take a nap and then another day in cult America will be over. Best wishes to all.

  16. Good morning. All I did yesterday was work, so today I’m going to exercise during lunch. The news is, of course, 100% horrible. I’ll stick to books and music.

  17. Good ugly Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s already 76 F., going up to a humid 86 F. with severe thunderstorms predicted. Yesterday severe thunderstorms were predicted as well—so of course, the clouds parted, the sun shone, and in the end we had a rather nice evening, weather-wise. Wise-wise, it’s not so good, as it looks like Thing wants Iran to nuke us.

    AH GOT MAH SOCIAL! Isn’t that nice? Something still works. Hope Bfitz received hers as well.

    I have to be washed, brushed, dressed, sprayed with insecticide, and ready to leave here by 8:30. I was supposed to provide 2 dozen oatmeal cookies for the Garden Party today. (Big disaster story, which I will recount later, if I run short of other news.) I will indeed provide 2 dozen home-packaged cookies, but they won’t be homemade. I’m hoping the crooked little labels I typed on sticky-back paper will convey that “made by loving hands at home” look.

    I really have to finish my coffee and split. At 9 I have to help plant Gay Pride flags on Great Oak Common and be ready to be photographed at 10:30 by a drone flying overhead. We’re meant to stand in a heart-shape to convey support for the gay community.

    Gotta rush, wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  18. It’s 67 heading for 81, overcast, and supposed to be raining. (It’s not.) Yesterday we generated 10.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 254.86 lost more ground. & the techbros at SolarEdge apparently have nothing better to do than “upgrade” the data page. So as of yesterday the information I want is squished into an even smaller space to make room for information that’s basically immaterial. At least to me. I don’t have an EV or even a hybrid and I don’t care what the equivalent of miles driven in one my lifetime production is. (Daily production might at least be interesting, but lifetime?)

    The rain that we did have earlier let/made me sleep a bit late and I’m still groggy, stiff, and slow. But my Social Security did come in, so that’s good. I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  19. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 91 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning it did not get as hot as quickly as it did yesterday and I was able to get my walk in before it turned 90. Yesterday, I walked in 100 degree heat but with a bottle of water.

    I hope that Minnesota is paying attention to what happens when a criminal doing tRump’s bidding gets charged by the feds – even a murderer is not likely to spend a day in prison. They had better charge the white christianist hater who gunned down Minnesota lawmakers in cold blood in state court or they will find him out on a “Presidential” pardon.

    I am still waiting for my work days to get easier. I am expected to hear soon about when we can wrap up the major project I am working on. Fingers crossed.

    See all y’all later!
