Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning, meeses! Thursday, Juneteenth Day …
It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 111. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we get some heat relief as whatever weather system is causing this unusual heat wave will move away. We will return to the upper 90s (more typical) and it looks like a possible chance for rain early next week. This morning I saw the first quarter moon in the eastern sky over my mountains and stood in her waning light for a while.
I am going to spend time today thinking about Juneteenth and remember that if the Confederate States and their 21st Century incarnation, the MAGAts, had their way the slaves would never have been freed. This might be the last Juneteenth federal holiday as I am sure that the Felon will executive order it away and we will never have a Congress with the courage to reinstate it. Bastids.
My WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, played an exciting game last night in Connecticut. Tonight they play Dee’s team, the New York Liberty. It should be a fun matchup! It is more fun watching two teams that I like play because if my team loses it does not hurt as much. I had felt sorry for the Connecticut Sun whose team was ripped apart and left for dead but after watching them play, I think they have a good core of young players and will be competitive in the future.
I have many things to do today and best get to it.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. In the office, did my walk. Between the Israel-Iran war, the threats to lawmakers (that pizza delivery thing is so creepy) and all the other news, I’m glad to be in the office where I won’t see news till evening.
It’s 72 heading for 90/heat index 95 and overcast. Yesterday we generated 14.76 KWHs and the m-t-d at 269.48 lost more ground. To be on track we should be at about 330 by now. Sigh. I guess if we manage to get over the 438 we got last year (when the inverter died with still 6 days to go in the month) I’ll have to call that good.
This cloudy weather is mucking up my time sense. I thought it was an hour later than it was. Which is why I’m online as early as I am. LOL. My friend and I are planning to go out/get takeout tonight for a change from grilled pork. Also to get a key cut for her. And maybe a few other things while we’re out. She still hasn’t gotten a lawyer, much less filed, because it seems to take everybody she emails so long to get back to her with answers to her questions. sigh. But she’s still emailing people with questions. Step by step.
Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. After I close up the house. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Happy Juneteenth folks!
We finally have no rain and a sunny day here – so Juneteenth celebrations won’t have to cancel or move inside.

It’s too much like the Secret Police in every fascist country.
Good Thursday morning, Moosekind, and happy Juneteenth! We have a gorgeous day, already 80 F. at 9:25 a.m. The weather wenches are gleefully predicting heavy rain, hail, a tornado or two, and high winds between 2 and 9 p.m. A WJLA-TV anchor actually challenged a weather wench yesterday as to why the dire predictions of the day before had failed to materialize. She said it wasn’t her fault, she couldn’t control the weather. Huh?
The GOOD news is that, because of our rainy May and June, our deficit is now only half an inch! Ta-rah!
Yesterday morning I overdid it: planting Gay Pride flags on the lawn, taking cookies to the Garden Party ladies who were setting up, then dashing home to wash off the insecticide and put on a hat and a midi-dress for the Gay Pride picture. A drone hovered overhead and then went way high over us: it reminded me uncomfortably of the drones Russia sends over Ukraine.
Anyway, I packed so much into the morning that I was practically comatose in the afternoon. Have to remind myself that my heart attack was one week ago today. Today I woke up with a severe case of ugliness, in that my upper lip has swelled to three times its normal size. It looks as if someone had gone mad with a collagen injection into my lip. How anyone can think this is attractive is beyond me! I think I’ve worked out that I’m allergic to one of the toothpastes I use, so will stop using that one. Will put ice and prep H on my lip to see if the swelling goes down; if not, I’ll have to wear a mask to the Actors’ Workshop this afternoon.
I’m going to call the nurse now to see if she can answer my questions about the awful side effects I’m having. I’ve also decided I’m allergic to elastic, so have been desperately seeking elastic-free underwear. I’m not one of those people who delights in going without underwear, particularly now that it’s summer and I’m wearing skirts again.
Hope everyone will have a great Juneteenth! We’re having a diverse Democratic ticket in the fall, which is excellent. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 56 and sunny outside my windows today. I’m slow and sleepy this morning but Sue will be here soon so I need to get the beds changed and the laundry going. Best wishes to all.
:)
Oops – sry about double post
Can’t get too much of it, Dee.
If I knew how to upload a picture here, I’d upload the one taken by drone on Wednesday of all of us Gay Pride allies standing in heart shape on Great Oak lawn.
Would love to see it!

Good morning. 80 degrees when I was walking at 5:30 am. Depressing. But I walked. Happy Friday!
It’s 76 heading for 92/head index 99 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 21.86 and the m-t-d at 291.42 gained a little ground.
The house was open from 6:50 until 7:30 – more to air out than cool down although of course I wouldn’t have opened at all, as I probably won’t until next Wednesday, if it hadn’t been cooler outside than inside. Yesterday the A/C kicked on at 2 pm. I wonder how early it will today. Welp, I’ll find out. Last night my friend and I got takeout Mexican for dinner and she rediscovered (& I was reminded) that even the smallest simplest dinner at a restaurant is more food than either of us is comfortable eating at one sitting. She’s been here 3 weeks now and 3 weeks of healthful eating – including portion sizes – is getting her back in touch with her body. And this is very good. Anyway, we agreed that next time we do takeout we’ll order a larger dinner (like 3 enchiladas instead of 2) and then split it. Fortunately there’s a large overlap in the things each of us like to eat. LOL.
Meanwhile, time to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Friday morning, Moosekind, and happy Summer Solstice, which occurs tonight at 10:42 p.m. It’s a lovely morning, 71 F. now, going up to 91 F. later.
Unable to sleep, I rose at 5 a.m., tried to find the moon, didn’t see Her, so finished writing the Summer Solstice ritual for tomorrow. I will email my assistant about the Speaker thingy. We have one, but can’t make heads or tails of the instructions. Meanwhile, I have my tray of ritual tools ready. Tonight I’ll make the lavender cookies and lavender lemonade for the Cakes and Ale portion.
I thought we’d use “A River of Birds in Migration” from Libana for the meditation, Lisa Thiel’s summer solstice song for the beginning, and “The Earth, the Water, the Fire, the Air,” from Libana for the closing. We’ll probably conduct the ritual in the screened porch off the restaurant, rather than the courtyard, since we’re all 80+ and it’s going to be super-hot tomorrow.
I did have to wear a mask to the Actors’ Workshop yesterday, but the swelling has abated this morning. The Workshop was lots of fun!
My BFF is picking me up for lunch today, and I have a couple of errands to do before that, so I’d better rush off.
The bad news this morning is that I’ve gained 4 pounds this week. I hope it’s lack of exercise. I can do something about that. I can’t do anything about the awful meds I’m taking. The GOOD news is that owing to yesterday’s afternoon storm we’re now only 1/4 of an inch under normal for YTD rainfall!
Wishing a good day to all at Pond!
Good morning, meeses! Friday of a too long work week …
It is 93 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I just barely got my walk in before it turned 90!
I am going news light today as it is too depressing to see that the courts are starting to get nervous about stopping the fascists – our Constitution and our form of government was not really set up to stop a dictator when the political party of the dictator has gained control of all branches of government. The Constitution relied on the good will and decency of the elected officials and that was probably not a good idea given that most of the Founding Fathers were slaveowners, slaveowner-enablers or slaveowner-apologists. Nothing good was likely to come out of people so compromised that they were fine with people owning humans.
I have some projects to try to get set up for the weekend so that they can be finished next week.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The prettiest waning crescent over the mountains greeted me this morning! She is nearly perfectly due east right now and just to the right and high above the Morning Star. She will be new on June 25th, next Wednesday.
I nearly missed getting my Summer Solstice post published. I lost track of the days this past week and then noticed that all my Solitaire games had summer themes. I did get it posted before the actual solstice which was at 7:42pm MST last night. In any event, Happy Solstice to everyone!
I have a weekend of catching up to do and a new phone to set up. I discovered that my old phone has an operating system that is too outdated to continue to run my check deposit scanning software and that is an essential application. The new phone is the same model as my current phone (which fits perfectly in my hand and pocket) – just Android 11 instead of Android 9. Anyway, I best get back to it.
See all y’all later!
Happy Solstice, Meeses. It’s 78 heading for 91/heat index 97 (so it says anyway), and sunny. Not much of a breeze and it’s already humid enough to be uncomfortable. And hot enough that the A/C kicked on half hour ago. Yesterday we generated 19.82 KWHs, which covers the A/C being on, and the m-t-d at 311.18 gained a little more.
My friend is at the family farm with her cat right now. Neither of the attorneys she sent follow-up questions to has responded. But she did finally manage to get an appointment with a counselor for Thursday. A rather expensive one but she specializes in working with divorcing/divorced women so maybe she’s got a good referral. Step by step.
Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning Meese.

Did you see that JD Freaking Vance called Senator Alex Padilla “Jose Padilla” during his visit to Los Angeles? Clearly, just like the Federal agents who cuffed Senator Padilla and pushed him to the ground, to Vance all Mexicans are the same and they are all named “Jose”. His spokesperson, refusing to apologize, said that it was just Vance getting “two criminals’ names mixed up.” Bastids.
Good morning. Yesterday was a very long day at work; we were so short staffed that our section manager had to dial in to the phone queue. Looking forward to relaxing today. Got to get in a kickboxing workout, and maybe make next week’s lunch. And start thinking about my next time hosting the music diary. It’s July 5 — do I do a reprise of the “yes liberals are patriotic” theme?
Good morning, Meesefolk. A stormy, cool morning here in Pure Michigan but with the prospect of a high in the low 90s today. Tomorrow and Monday are supposed to be high 90s which is insane for MI in June and very unwelcome since we don’t have AC. We’ve never found it necessary before, but if these temps starts becoming a regular thing, we may have to rethink.
I suspect my sudden appearance after…years…is a bit of a surprise, but I think of this community often and occasionally lurk. It’s my lurking this morning which led me to post; I saw the news about Diana’s health emergency and wanted to say I’m glad to see the follow up news and Diana’s feisty return. Diana, I’m ever so glad you were surrounded by Men in Black and good-looking EMTs who kept you going! And while I’ve never done cardio rehab, I’ve done pulmonary rehab (thanks to a bout of pneumonia last fall which landed me with 2 partially-collapsed lungs); they are quite similar. I actually enjoyed it in a masochist sort of way. The process wasn’t always fun, but the progress was well worth the effort. Even though I’ve “graduated” from the program, I still get up at 4:45am several times a week to spend an hour working out at the rehab clinic before work. (It’s no longer covered by insurance, but for rehab grads like me, they only charge $5 a visit.) Anyway, I’m sure you’ll have tamed the treadmill in no time at all.
My best to all of you!
{{{DoReMI}}} Lovely to see you. I think of you often and periodically go find you on other platforms just to see if you’re OK. Glad you managed your own health crisis successfully. And are working to be sure it doesn’t happen again. Healing Energy and moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 54 and raining in Bellingham today. We were to tired to celebrate the solstice last night so we’ll light a fire and note the changing season tonight. It’s chilly and wet so we’ll make a warm soup for dinner. Best wishes to all.
