Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 15th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Thursday, Juneteenth Day …

It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 111. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we get some heat relief as whatever weather system is causing this unusual heat wave will move away. We will return to the upper 90s (more typical) and it looks like a possible chance for rain early next week. This morning I saw the first quarter moon in the eastern sky over my mountains and stood in her waning light for a while.

I am going to spend time today thinking about Juneteenth and remember that if the Confederate States and their 21st Century incarnation, the MAGAts, had their way the slaves would never have been freed. This might be the last Juneteenth federal holiday as I am sure that the Felon will executive order it away and we will never have a Congress with the courage to reinstate it. Bastids.

My WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, played an exciting game last night in Connecticut. Tonight they play Dee’s team, the New York Liberty. It should be a fun matchup! It is more fun watching two teams that I like play because if my team loses it does not hurt as much. I had felt sorry for the Connecticut Sun whose team was ripped apart and left for dead but after watching them play, I think they have a good core of young players and will be competitive in the future.

I have many things to do today and best get to it.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good morning. In the office, did my walk. Between the Israel-Iran war, the threats to lawmakers (that pizza delivery thing is so creepy) and all the other news, I’m glad to be in the office where I won’t see news till evening.

  3. It’s 72 heading for 90/heat index 95 and overcast. Yesterday we generated 14.76 KWHs and the m-t-d at 269.48 lost more ground. To be on track we should be at about 330 by now. Sigh. I guess if we manage to get over the 438 we got last year (when the inverter died with still 6 days to go in the month) I’ll have to call that good.

This cloudy weather is mucking up my time sense. I thought it was an hour later than it was. Which is why I’m online as early as I am. LOL. My friend and I are planning to go out/get takeout tonight for a change from grilled pork. Also to get a key cut for her. And maybe a few other things while we’re out. She still hasn’t gotten a lawyer, much less filed, because it seems to take everybody she emails so long to get back to her with answers to her questions. sigh. But she’s still emailing people with questions. Step by step.

    Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. After I close up the house. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Happy Juneteenth folks!

We finally have no rain and a sunny day here – so Juneteenth celebrations won’t have to cancel or move inside.

  5. Good Thursday morning, Moosekind, and happy Juneteenth! We have a gorgeous day, already 80 F. at 9:25 a.m. The weather wenches are gleefully predicting heavy rain, hail, a tornado or two, and high winds between 2 and 9 p.m. A WJLA-TV anchor actually challenged a weather wench yesterday as to why the dire predictions of the day before had failed to materialize. She said it wasn’t her fault, she couldn’t control the weather. Huh?

The GOOD news is that, because of our rainy May and June, our deficit is now only half an inch! Ta-rah!

Yesterday morning I overdid it: planting Gay Pride flags on the lawn, taking cookies to the Garden Party ladies who were setting up, then dashing home to wash off the insecticide and put on a hat and a midi-dress for the Gay Pride picture. A drone hovered overhead and then went way high over us: it reminded me uncomfortably of the drones Russia sends over Ukraine.

Anyway, I packed so much into the morning that I was practically comatose in the afternoon. Have to remind myself that my heart attack was one week ago today. Today I woke up with a severe case of ugliness, in that my upper lip has swelled to three times its normal size. It looks as if someone had gone mad with a collagen injection into my lip. How anyone can think this is attractive is beyond me! I think I’ve worked out that I’m allergic to one of the toothpastes I use, so will stop using that one. Will put ice and prep H on my lip to see if the swelling goes down; if not, I’ll have to wear a mask to the Actors’ Workshop this afternoon.

I’m going to call the nurse now to see if she can answer my questions about the awful side effects I’m having. I’ve also decided I’m allergic to elastic, so have been desperately seeking elastic-free underwear. I’m not one of those people who delights in going without underwear, particularly now that it’s summer and I’m wearing skirts again.

Hope everyone will have a great Juneteenth! We’re having a diverse Democratic ticket in the fall, which is excellent. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  6. Good morning, 56 and sunny outside my windows today. I’m slow and sleepy this morning but Sue will be here soon so I need to get the beds changed and the laundry going. Best wishes to all.
