Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. We’re supposed to get a cold front today – morning lows will go down to the 60s, brrr. I did a lot of work yesterday; got a reminder set to get ready for kickboxing so I will actually go today. Anyway, happy Wednesday all.
It’s 69 going to 71 and very overcast. May or may not get more rain. Yesterday we generated 2.69 KWHs and the m-t-d 257.49 lost a lot more ground.
Didn’t do the laundry yesterday. Trying to get a basket full of dry laundry home in the pouring rain, which it did for most of the day, didn’t appeal to either of us. So we’ll do it today. 10 degrees cooler – heck, even 5 degrees cooler – and I’d light a fire and dry the clothes in front of it instead of hauling them off to the laundromat. That’ll come soon.
Nothing good going on in the wider world. But we’re still here and still doing what we can. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind. It’s an ugly overcast day here, 67 F. now, going up to 76 F. Imaginary rain will start in two hours.
Need to catch up with you really quickly before I head out. We spent most of yesterday in the ER at INOVA Loudoun Hospital. I left about 3, as nothing was happening and we couldn’t get any information. At 11 p.m. poor Dearly was transferred to Virginia Hospital Center, which is the Kaiser hospital. (Gods, I wish we had National Health so all hospitals would be the same.)
Elder Son lives in Arlington, which is close to Virginia Hospital Center, so I’ll go there and possibly stay the night if I have to.
Yesterday morning a nurse at INOVA Loudoun asked me if Dearly had a DNR. He does, but naturally I didn’t have it with me. I took pictures of it and emailed it to a night nurse at Loudoun.
It’s not looking good. I had an AWFUL night. I’m going to try to grab a nap before I go. I’m too tired to drive.
Will let you know as soon as I can. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
{{{Diana}}} Holding you in The Light and in my heart. Sending Healing Energy to your family. Blessed Be.

Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 95. Clear skies right now with a 35% chance of rain this afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-60s overnight as a front moves through bringing (we hope) rain. A lot of the plants and animals here have adapted to very little water but if it is dry for too long, there can be long term damage. I am always surprised to see what the average annual rainfall is here, about 5 inches. That is just a handful of summer storms in Wisconsin.
It appears that the government will shut down and it will be different than in years past when even Republican administrations tried to limit the damage to individual workers with furloughs instead of layoffs and triaging what needs to stay open so that people who depend on the government aren’t harmed. This year MAGAt ghoul Russell Voight is in charge and the shutdown will be made as painful as possible for everyone. Goddess help us.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Diana and Dearly and their family.
See all y’all later!
Yep, the shutdown is gonna suck. The download service for Talking Books is run from DC, a lot of people use that part. School just started, lots of dyslexic kids getting signed up but also lots of people who just have bad mail service. When the people who tend those servers are furloughed…… Ugh.
Thursday Meese. Prayers lifted for Diana.
Rain here all day
Puerto Rico
We are pleased to present this event together with
@pr_diasporica
on the economy of an independent Puerto Rico. It will be available through our Facebook account.
Hurricane Threat! In this video, the chance both systems become Hurricanes! How soon they develop, where they go, and the intense rain for Puerto Rico, the US and British Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic.
Good morning. Friday Eve! Cold front supposedly came through but it’s still 75 this morning. Maybe it won’t be 99 when I drive home. All good thoughts to Diana and Dearly.
It’s 64 heading for 78 and while overcast not as overcast as it’s been. It’s even supposed to clear off later today. Yesterday we generated 4.8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 262.29 lost more ground. Sigh.
The fascists are planning to take advantage of the shutdown to fire a whole lot more BIPOC – and what people they rehire will be white males. You can bet on it. We’re in the midst of the 1920s economically and the 1930s politically. Neither of those decades ended well.
Natalia and her sisters just took off for the Austin area. Family get together for an elder relative hitting the century mark Saturday. They’ll be back Sunday evening. Hopefully relatively early as her sisters have another 2 hours of driving to get home from here. Meanwhile I’m taking Cloud to the vet today for another injection for the arthritis and to check his numbers for the thyroid problem. So I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. Extra for Diana. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 64 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Between the orange miasma and resting my damn legs I seem to have shut down. Sorry to be so absent.
Diana, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Good morning, Meeses! Friday, holding vigil with our dear friend Diana …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Clear skies now but rain expected this afternoon. Last night we had a pretty good monsoonal gully washer with lightning and thunder. Conditions are right for a couple more days of afternoon rains.
I am not shedding any tears over James Comey, destroyer of the American Experiment, getting indicted for any crime. It is a terrible thing, though, for a sitting president to be allowed to use the Justice Department for personal vengeance. It isn’t the first time, and for some reason (!) it always seems to happen during Republican administrations. Richard Nixon and George W. Bush were famous for that. Nixon’s Attorney General got convicted, Bush’s did not. The chances that tRump’s will be are slim to none.
Last night the Arizona Cardinals hosted a football game at State Farm Stadium, the venue that the Kirk memorial / nazi rally was in. I wonder how it felt for the Black players and football fans who were women and Jewish people to be in a place that a week ago was filled with toxic clouds of hate. I laughed when I saw the end zones still had “STOP HATE” emblazoned on the turf. I wonder if they covered the words up for the nazi rally? In any event, it was creepy seeing it and also the teams uniforms paying homage the freaking Arizona copper mining industry – despoiler of our Mother Earth and depleter of our scarce water supplies.
Tonight the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team hosts the Minnesota Lynx in Game 3 of their semifinal playoff series. The series is tied one win apiece and we are hoping to go up a game on them with the help of the Phoenix fans. I suspect that the Lynx will not be as cocksure as they were on Tuesday; in the pre-game interviews and with their body language, they acted as though the did not even have to play the game, they were so good!
I have two things I would like to get done this morning so I better get to it.
See all y’all later!
Pulling for your team Jan.
So, I had an interesting day yesterday. I have a lot of bumps, not moles. They’ve always been there and never bothered me. Yesterday one started bleeding, enough that I left work. Started a load of laundry, called the doc. She referred me to my dermatologist. Sigh. At least she didn’t seem worried. Hope today is nice and boring.
{{{anotherdemocrat}}} Healing Energy and yes, a boring day. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Friday Meese. Continuing to lift prayers for Diana.
Puerto Rico
Four governors since Maria, and none has created a list of patients dependent on electricity.
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! Hot news! Yesterday I sat with my hand on the telephone all day, waiting to hear from the doctor at Arlington Hospital. Dearly is coming home today. He was to have come home yesterday, but they did an “IND,” which means “incision and drainage” of the hideous excrescence.
His doctor called me when I was sitting down to dinner at the Pub. I ran to the mailroom across the hall to take the call. The doctor is going to send him home with antibiotics and a MUCH LOWER dose of blood thinner. I asked him if Dearly needed hospice care, and he said no, certainly not in the next two months. I told him Dearly is still engaged with the world, watches news, sports, and dramas on WETA-UK. He said Don was in excellent spirits and not likely to pop off soon.
So we’ll very likely get to celebrate (quietly) our 58th anniversary on October 21. I do think we should go ahead and get the absentee ballot. Dearly is understandably anxious to vote.
What we originally thought was the Kennedy Terminal Ulcer was actually something caused by that filthy warfarin. Dr. Bashar said that at age 95, Dearly has no reason to take so much blood thinner.
Thank you all for your good wishes and support! The British branch and the Australian branch have weighed in with good wishes too. I feel blessed to have such good friends and relatives.
It’s a beautiful morning here but might rain this evening. Yesterday it rained TWICE, morning and night, so I was happy because of that. And as if that, the great news about Dearly, and the support weren’t enough, a kind neighbor on the fifth floor gave me five beautiful dresses. Two will have to go to the Drama Club wardrobe, because they just don’t fit. The others are lovely, though.
It’s 67 F. and sunny, going up to 81 F. in Ashburn. I don’t feel like preparing and eating breakfast without Dearly around. I finally gave in and ate a small apple and two slices of air toast. Just feel worn out by all the drama this week. Did I tell y’all that I graduated from Cardiac Rehab on Tuesday? Yep, I have a certificate and everything. So I might go back to the gym this morning. It’s unlikely that Don will be home before afternoon.
I’ll stop babbling now. Thanks again for being such good friends, and here’s hoping that everyone at the Pond will have a good day!
YAY!!!!!! {{{Diana}}} So very glad for you & Don. Sending lots more Healing Energy. Holding you in The Light & in my heart. Blessed Be. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Yay!!!!
Glad to hear this!!
It’s 57 heading for 80, the sun is shining, & Diana’s husband is coming home from the hospital today. That makes it a very good day, no matter what else is going on. Yesterday we generated 9.8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 272 lost a bit more ground. With 5 more production days in Sept, we might make it over 300 but (with that building next door blocking the evening sun) I’m not sure it’s possible to make it to 350. We shall see what we shall see.
Welp, I have good news and bad news about my cat Cloud. With the medications his thyroid numbers are back to normal, he’s gained over 1.5 lbs, and his fur is growing back where he pulled it out. He’s still pulling out a little but nothing significant. The bad news is that the untreated hyperthyroid was masking chronic kidney disease. Early/mild stage but there’s no treatment for that, just a special diet food. That, having read the ingredients, I don’t think he’ll eat. I didn’t buy it. I really don’t trust Hill’s Science Diet and I don’t really trust a vet recommending it if the also sell it. I’ll talk to Natalia when she gets back and also my son. And maybe call the local vet supply store. Get some advice on this. Then, maybe, I’ll try it. But the best food in the world is no good if they won’t eat it. Another we shall see what we shall see. I may just be reacting to having to change his food again the very day I got a Chewy shipment of the food he’ll actually eat.
Anyway, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 58 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Diana, so happy to read Dearly is doing better and is prolly home now. RonK has changed from warfarin to a new blood thinner that’s easier to manage. It’s safe for him but alas, not for me so I’m stuck with warfarin. I hope med management has options that will improve Dearly’s quality of life.
I’m meeting a friend at the bookstore cafe for lunch today. I’m still walking very tenderly but I hope a change of scenery will improve my attitude. Best wishes to all.
