Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 54 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
I could see the nearly 3rd quarter moon high in the ESE sky this morning in the crystal clear skies. At 59% illumination, she is impossible to miss.
Minus 4 degrees here in Kingston this morning.

That is very very cold. I remember the worst winter cold is usually between January 15 and February 15. I hope that spring is early!
I am not sure if I will watch much of the Super Bowl but I will make a point of watching the halftime show. Apparently the Charle Krk Memorial Alternative Halftime Show and Klan Rally is having a hard time getting performers. A recent Marist poll shows that 65% of Americans think that ICE has gone too far but 12% of Americans think that ICE has not gone far enough. Those 12 Percenters are the people who will be watching that show.
Those 12% and maybe some of the 23% who are just fine with what ICE is doing and think the white people getting killed serves them right for being race traitors.
It’s 55 heading for 65 and overcast. Yesterday we generated 10.46 KWHs and the m-t-d at 63.11 is still on track. And even enough ahead that it will still be on track the end of today if we get even a few KWHs generated. That’ll use up all the cushion, but we’d still be on track.
No glimpse of the moon since the cloud cover moved in before she rose. Oh well. I still know she’s there. Wish this sinusitis would go away – my nose hurts. sigh. My son will be over this afternoon with carrots, potatoes, & a rotisserie chicken from Sam’s Club. And a nice visit. Mostly telling me how his flying lessons are going. He’s doing pretty good at regular flying but practicing emergency maneuvers makes him sick by the 5th or 6th time he does them. Anyway, I’ll shove some taters in the oven when he leaves so they’ll be ready by the time Natalia gets home. Meanwhile off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. Weirdly warm, even for Texas — I’m gonna wear sandals to church, because it’ll be in the 80s this afternoon. I did so much yesterday and this morning I’m doing prep for next week. My church is hosting Texas Civil Rights Project founder Jim Harrington, so I won’t get home until mid-afternoon. My apartment smells so good because of my steeping tea.

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! My Sunday is getting off to a very slow start. A friend on the West Coast wanted to chat on Messenger, so we did that. She doesn’t contact me often, so I hate to cut our conversations short.
Experiencing a “little misery” this weekend, about which the less said the better. Anyway, this morning is shiny blue-and-gold-and white (from the unmelted snowcrete) and NOT AS COLD. In fact, it will be warming up all this week, thank Goddess. Might be 50 F. on Wednesday. Invoking the Egyptian pantheon certainly paid off.
I have a boatload of work to do before making my way to my friend’s place in another building to eat pizza, drink nonalky beer, and watch the Olympics instead of the SuperBowl. Have to spend the afternoon memorizing my lines for the play, OMG. How can we do this in three days? Never mind, I’ll find a way. And I’m still working on the diabetes article.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 52 and sunny outside my windows, a nice change from pouring rain. RonK is excited about watching the super bowl, but I’ll just check in and out and then we’ll make nachos for dinner. The sun makes me want to be outdoors so I’ll prolly do so later this afternoon. Best wishes to all.
Monday Meese. Minus 3 here in Kingston
Superbowl/Bad Bunny
In case you missed the halftime show – here it is:
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The perfectly edged 50% illumination third quarter moon is visible in the ESE sky. The new moon is February 17th at 5:01am MST with perfect timing to begin a 15 day cycle of energy for some new projects.
The rotting pumpkin and his dimwitted followers don’t realize that Bad Bunny put on a show that had a message about slavery, freedom and joy. It must be sad for them to have no brains as well as no hearts and certainly no courage.
I have a busy day as I have to prep for a few days away from my office computers to tend to personal projects. I will push some things into the cloud and hope that I have what I need if a client has a problem.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Got here early, so longer walk: 1.6 mi. Sadly, that’s because I was awake at 3:50. Anyway, I’m in the office, got to try to stay awake till 5.
It’s 35 heading for 79 – the highest of the warm spell days – and sunny. The PV system will of course be generating but until the SolarEdge techbros finish playing with the data-reporting program the only way I’ll find out how much is if I go out to the inverter itself and check the LED display. Which I may do later today once the grass has dried. I know we’re still on track because I did a progress check yesterday afternoon before the techbros effed it up again.
The world around us is collapsing into political & climate collapse hell but I’m OK right now. As far as I know we don’t have an ICE infestation/invasion here in NW AR and I’m pretty sure I’d know. My son would definitely know and I saw him yesterday afternoon. But Natalia’s heard from former students in MO and elsewhere who are expecting it any minute and are stocking up on whistles. How this ends I don’t know. I just hope it doesn’t live down to my fears. Meanwhile, there are folks who need food, or meds, or rent, or all of the above and then some. So I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Urban vs Rural. Republicans will always hate the cities and will always push to cancel their votes and make their lives miserable. This time they are using ICE and unfortunately the 2024 election gave the federal government some pretty powerful tools.
The most powerful tool the Rs have is compliance of everybody else. From doge to ICE and all points in between the administration is issuing orders they have no authority to issue – and people are obeying them just as if they did. The answer to illegal orders is not marching, complaining, writing letters and social posts, or quitting in protest. It’s simply to not obey them. The cuts to any program the Rs don’t like. Not legal. The department in question should have just ignored them. The access of sensitive data to EM & the doge boys? Not legal. The orders should have been ignored and the intruders not allowed access. Sending ICE, BP, & various militias to terrorize people? No legal. The orders should have been ignored. Trafficking people, citizens or not? Not legal. Should have been ignored. People are “just following orders” that aren’t even legal in the first place. At least the Germans had the excuse the Hitler’s orders – evil as they were – were legal.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 21 and clear in Ashburn, heading for a high of 34 F. We’re due for a warm up and we may receive RAIN on Sunday!
My friend had finished watching the Olympics by the time I arrived, so she kindly consented to watch the Super Bowl. I found the Super Bowl boring, but was glad it wasn’t a total shutout for the Pats. Being deaf as the proverbial post, I never understand what they’re singing at halftime anyway. Bad Bunn and his fellow singer-dancers reminded me strongly of doctors and nurses, clad in white uniforms.
Not sure if the Levis ad was part of the SB program commercials, but my friend and I are so old we found it vulgar. We dislike people twitching their derrieres right in our faces.
This morning I made orange muffins and they turned out quite tasty! Gave some to the neighbors. I have to get on the phone and try once again to get the life insurance Dearly said he left me. Also I have to talk to Fidelity. I can’t even get in to see how much is in there because they want to send the code to his phone—which, of course, is not working. I’m warming it up now.
Have a dreary day of memorizing lines ahead of me. This is, I swear, my last play. There are other things I want to do.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 44 and cloudy. I hoped the last round of PT would mean the severe pain in my left leg would “fix” what ever makes that happen but it’s back :( Oh well, I know what to do so I’ll cope. Best wishes to all.

Good morning. Crazy warm for February, even for Texas. I may turn on the a/c this afternoon. Getting ready for wfh day.
Dear Goddess, needing the ac in February!
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We will see a cool down later in the week and possible rain on Friday.
A quick scan of the headlines – tells me to go news light for a while.
See all y’all later!
It’s 65 heading for 72 and not exactly sunny but not exactly not at the moment. I still cannot access my data center data. I have found a workaround for reaching SolarEdge – maybe. I reported it to the sales team. It’s the only contact venue that lets me actually send information and doesn’t stop me at some point where I want to do something that isn’t what they want me to do. Meanwhile I went out to the inverter and checked status that way. Yesterday we generated 10. KWHs and the m-t-d at 78 is on track.
My big excitement for the day – other than finally sending off the report to SolarEdge about my data monitoring issues – is a trip to Walmart for pet food today. LOL. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese!
It’s partly cloudy here and 35 F., going up to 47 F. We will have “moderate” melting of the snow. I don’t know when I’ll ever get to the gym. At least if I go to the hairdresser today, I can read my script while I’m waiting.
I have a date for the Valentine’s brunch on Friday and for the Valentine’s dinner on Saturday evening. Two different guys. The one I’m having dinner with has already seen my red dress, so I’m going to have to think of something else.
Thing around here get busier and busier. At least we don’t have balance class today, the teacher is out of town. I am so happy our new governor refuses to let Virginia police work with ICE.
Would y’all vote for Gavin if he rain for POTUS in ’28? I’ve always had a soft spot for him, because when he was mayor of San Fran he allowed LGBT people to get married. We were over at the Great Orange Satan in those days, so we kept sending bouquets to people we didn’t even know just so they’d feel good while they waited in line at City Hall.
Time to get going. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
{{{Diana}}} Nope, wouldn’t vote for GN. Not since he did that photo op of him personally destroying a homeless encampment. He’s thrown trans ppl under the bus too. And he keeps doing podcasts with nazis. Not supportive of Brown folks, Native or immigrant, either. We need a candidate who isn’t Nazi-Lite.
If it’s Newsom or a Republican, I would vote for him but I hope Democrats are not left with that choice. I want a strong showing in the midterms including taking back the Senate then we can talk about 2028.
That’s why we have to make it very clear RIGHT NOW that he’s not the guy. No wiggle room. As long as people say “well, yeah he’s R-Lite but I’ve vote for him if he’s the candidate” he can keep doing what he’s doing – running for president while harming all the marginalized populations whose only hope is in an actual progressive Dem candidate. “He does great things for white people” is not going to cut it. If he’s not doing great things for all people, get him out of the way and find someone who is while there’s still time.
I understand the soft spot, for the same reason. It was so rare in those days for an elected official to stand up for gay people.
But since then, he has….been a less good guy. The homeless camp thing, the podcasts with Nazis, just lots of bad things.
I hadn’t known any of that bad stuff. OK, we’re not havin’ Gavin. I’d like Kamala, myself, but Americans hate women, especially brilliant, Black women.
It won’t be a woman or a black man, I am fairly certain. I think a governor, Pritzer comes to mind – rich as Croesus and not afraid to duke it out with the MAGAts. He would crush Vance or Rubio in a debate.
Good morning, 47 and cloudy outside my windows. It’s RonK’s 84th birthday today so we’ll go out to dinner tonight and have a family dinner at our son’s house on Sunday. I’m grateful for so many years of birthday fun…..even more grateful the “kids” are hosting this time!
I found the serious knee brace I got several years ago and it’s helping me hobble around with less pain so I’m using it. Arthritis in my spine is pinching a nerve going down my left leg so the brace helps. It goes from thigh to mid calf and doesn’t fit under clothes so it’s cumbersome, but oh well. Best wishes to all.
Happy birthday to Ronk!
