Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s 55 F. in Ashburn right now, on its way to 63 F. We had a sunny but breezy day yesterday. I didn’t believe in the rain when the sun set, in view of the anemic-looking clouds in the sky but behold: for once the prediction of evening rain held true. It began raining soon after 8 p.m. and continued in a most satisfactory manner. This morning the edges of the screened porch are still damp, which means that it must have continued through the night. Otherwise, the porch would have dried by now.
I just managed to rescue the porch cushions in time. Earlier I went out to buy flowers and pick up the cake. However, we were so full of mismanaged chicken pot pie at dinner that we didn’t eat the cake, which is reposing prettily in the fridge.
I want a day of not leaving the campus. I have clothes to fold, checks to write, and I need to get to the gym before my figure deteriorates completely. Problem is, after I take my meds, I feel completely enervated. Will have to ask the cardie about that tomorrow.
Glad bfitz had a nice birthday and that Ron K feels better. I cannot BELIEVE what he is doing to the East Wing of the White House! I read what the IDF has been doing to Palestinian children. They’re like Nazis! And I began reading the Virginia Giuffre memoir, Nobody’s Girl. Made me want to drown myself in the nearest pond. Why do certain depraved males believe it’s their right to rape little girls? And how come “the Mom” allows it? Revolting!
More and more I agree with my late father: if the human race annihilates itself, if there’s anyone left to write an epitaph on a tombstone, it should consist of two words: Good riddance.
Wail, now that I’ve cheered y’all up, I’ll leave you to contemplate the end of The American Experiment. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 42, cloudy, and autumn leaves outside my windows today. I bought a red twig dogwood to replace the virvurnum yesterday. It’s a PNW native variety with beautiful red branches for winter, white blossoms in the spring and burgundy berries in the fall so it will be a nice addition to the garden. It wasn’t expensive so I bought a 5 gallon plant and as it grows fast I may be around to see see it become a more mature plant.
I got my desk put together yesterday, tended a big W11 update with the desk computer, and then hit a computer snafu while paying bills. I seem to have less tolerance (and more anxiety) re computer issues lately. So when the customer service person said Ron needed to be the one requesting assistance I lost my temper, played the “but I’m 80” card, and got the help I needed, grrrrr!
Time for tea and solitaire. As always my best wishes to all.
