Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 8th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 50 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Public Service Message: Daylight Saving Time will occur at 2am Sunday morning. For those not in Arizona or Hawaii, your clocks will Spring Ahead and you will lose an hour of sleep, or if you prefer, you will bank an hour that you can use on November 1st. We do not move our clocks here but the time change impacts us as we adjust to what the time is everywhere else.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Congratulations, Dee, to your South Carolina basketball team for beating the obnoxious LSU team in the semifinal round of the SEC tournament. Good luck the rest of the way!

      • Yes, to be clear, I have nothing against the LSU players. It is the coach who is awful for many reasons.

  3. Sunday Meese. 50 degrees here in Kingston. Yay! May it melt some of the piles of snow in front of my house!

  4. Good morning. We had big thunderstorms yesterday, calmer today. Tea is steeping, watching the news. Have a good day, everyone!

  5. It’s 35 heading for 70 and might become sunny when the fog burns off. Maybe. Yesterday we generated 3.28 KWHs and the m-t-d at 57.69 is just over half what it would need to be for us to make the 400 goal.

    Still coughing and now grungy tummy as well. Oh well. Ironies or something. I went to get milk yesterday and got a gallon for my son because it’s still on sale then when I called him to tell him it was here, he told me he’d been about to call me because he’d gotten milk a bit earlier and had gotten a gallon for me. Even with the boys gone, his household goes through milk a lot faster than mine does so he’ll still probably end up with the gallon from me. But if not, we’ll think of something to do with it. We certainly won’t throw it out.

    Definitely groggy feeling today. I hate DST. And the battery in my wall clock just died. At least I hope it’s just the battery. I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  6. Happy International Women’s Day, Moosekind. ‘Tis 66 F. in Ashburn under cloudy skies. Had the night from HELL last night, despite the sleeping pill. I worried about the time change (I’m not tall enough to change my three battery-powered clocks), worried about when, where, and how to get a new phone, worried about wrestling with the devil (doing income taxes), which I did last night, worried about memorizing my lines for the play.

    To make things worse, it was too hot in my bedroom and I coughed, coughed, coughed. Every time I think the cough has gone, it comes back. Also, I’m worried about the stupid play: it’s 70 minutes long and there’s NO INTERMISSION. Nor am I, in my key role as Narrator, ever off stage. How am I going to keep from needing the toilet? Should I just not eat or drink for three hours beforehand? And my hair is too springy. Wonder if there are flat wigs I can buy to make me look more mannish.

    Oh, well, these are all very first-world problems. I’m sorry for the immigrants here and for the Iranians, who didn’t ask to have Mango declare war on them. “Send Barron to Tehran!” is the cry going up on Twitter.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

    • I am also struggling with a to-do list that is stressing me out. Normally, writing down the things helps ease the stress but for some reason it is not helping; I simply need to get them done!

      I hope your coughing issue improves and that you can find a tall person to change your clocks!

    • When I get laryngitis, there’s this spray called Singer’s Saving Grace that helps. Maybe it would help with your cough?

  7. Good morning, 51 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Sorry to be absent for a few days, but more computer issues have taken my attention and energy. Briefly, I responded to an email that appeared to be from an old friend, only to learn that her account was hacked and it was a scam email. It was sneaky, written in her style and I wasn’t the only friend who responded. Even more troubling she had no idea the email asking for assistance was sent. So all systems are scanned, the scam emails are reported, passwords changed, family and friends informed, accounts scanned daily, etc. I think we are ok, but what a hassle.
    Using smart phones, tablets and computers have become a daily part of our life but keeping multiple devices functioning safely is a task. I’m not sure how that has become my job but apparently it is. Oh well, keeps me from worrying about the world events I cannot not control. Best wishes to all.

    • Yikes! That’s terrible. I am glad you got things cleaned up but such an annoyance.

  8. Good morning. In the office. Very few thoughts. Have a good day, y’all.

  9. It’s 62 heading for 78. It might be sunny today. Once the sun clears the hill to the east. The sky is more or less blue (pale and a little hazy) to the west. Yesterday we got 15.45 KWHs and the m-t-d at 73.14 sure as heck isn’t on track but it gained a smidge. We’ll see what today brings.

    Natalia’s eyes are clear of the rash, thank heavens, but everywhere else it’s spread and is red and itchy. Some swelling still, minor on her face thankfully but not so minor on her hands and arms. She’s gone to work but will head over to the clinic as soon as it opens. I think she’s probably been scratching or at least rubbing it in her sleep and that’s how it’s spreading. But she needs some help on this.

    My son only got in half an hour of flying yesterday morning because the fog didn’t burn off until almost the end of the time he had the plane reserved but he did at least get to fly from Drake Field in Fayetteville to the airfield in Springdale, land, and then make the return trip. So now he has 2 towers he’s signed in & out with. Progress!

    Meanwhile I’m slow and groggy today. I hate DST – anything that interferes with worker productivity and morale is an attack on the U.S. and I can’t think of a more perfect example of an insidious attack on worker productivity and morale. (Which of course makes every pol who votes to keep it a traitor & every pol who doesn’t work to get rid of it complicit. You think I’m kidding. I’m not.) Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • I just hope they don’t lock in DST, like they are talkng about. Arizona won’t agree to it so we would be permanently in Pacific Time. Locking in Standard Time makes more sense.

      • Locking in standard time makes more sense if sense is what you’re looking for. Even locking in DST, as evil as it is, would give relief from the stress of changing the clocks/normal sleep patterns twice a year. But if your purpose is to reduce productivity and lower employee morale so that they’ll be grateful to be overworked, underpaid, and treated like crap then the current system is ideal – and doing just wat it was designed to do.

  10. Good Monday morning, Moosekind, sure and a bright, beautiful day it is in Ashburn and all! Currently it’s 55 F., going up to 73 F. Break out the capris!

    I am having to jump through hoops to obtain a copy of Dearly’s 1099-R from Social Security. Just got off the phone with someone who said it would be sent out and I should get it within 7-10 business days. If that happens, I can file the taxes on time.

    Had the scare of my life last night! Was in bed, just going into a deep sleep when a horrendous noise broke out. Even I, deaf as I am, could hear it. First it was an awful buzzing noise like that of an incoming rocket, then a HUGE amount of engine noise, sounding as if a commercial jet were about to crash. I thought Iran had lobbed a missile at us. Cursing Mango, I leapt out of bed into dressing-gown and slippers and rushed out to the hallway, where there was absolutely no one milling around. So again, I had a another mostly sleepless night, for which I will pay. Ugh!

    Still haven’t adjusted to DST, so feel as if I’m an hour behind on everything. Going to get washed and brushed so I can head on over to the gym. Still have tons to do and we have rehearsal tonight.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond with no bad news!

  11. Good afternoon, 51 and raining in Bellingham today. Son #2 is in surgery to remove some cysts growing on his spine so I’m feeling anxious. He has had a long year of severe back pain so I hope this surgery gives him needed relief. He has a good medical team so he has the support he needs to recover, just hoping there are no surprises during surgery. Best wishes to all.

  12. Good afternoon, meeses. Monday …

    It is 73 degrees with a scattering of high clouds. We are expecting rain tomorrow per the weather widget but the NWS web site doesn’t show anything. Last night I saw moonlight behind some clouds over the mountains but this morning I saw the waning moon in the SW sky.

    I got one project done this morning, took my walk and now I am finished for the day. We have an election to vote on a road repair plan so I dropped off my ballot this morning. It is a mail only election but I don’t trust the mail.

    See all y’all later!

  13. Tuesday Meese. We are getting a short weather break here in Kingston – it’s gonna be 77 today!

  14. Good morning. Getting ready for wfh, going to try dashing to the gym over lunch. We are getting rain, which we really need — but severe storms instead of nice steady rain. Sigh.

  15. Good Tuesday morning, Meese. It’s partly cloudy at the moment in Ashburn, but will clear up later and reach the low 80s! right now it’s 50 F. I simply cannot wake up this morning, I’m still not adjusted to DST. The pain in both feet got me out of bed this morning.

    Have decided to blow off the Balance class so I can get some sleep. Have lots to do, naturally. Tonight I’m having dinner with an acting colleague who has tickets to an evening of Irish music. Hope they’ll play authentic Irish instruments, but you can never tell.

    Rehearsal continues to take it out of me. Am I getting too old for this sort of thing? I believe I am!

    Wishing all at the Pond a good day with no bad news and healing to those who need it. Have not seen Herself for ages.

  16. It’s 70 heading for 76 and overcast again. Not really dark. Just not sunny. Yesterday we generated 4.44 KWHs and the m-t-d at 77.58 lost more ground.

    My cough is better so that part’s good. Hasn’t gone away, it’s still doing that throat-tickle cough way too frequently, but I’m not having as many cough-the-guts-up fits as I was. Hopefully the NP Natalia saw yesterday knows what she’s doing. Apparently the previous one didn’t. (Good thing Natalia forgot the Rx salve when she went to the farm last Thurs evening. According to this NP you’re not supposed to wear it on your face or in the sun.) This one says to use OTC topicals but gave her 2 sets of pills. One that’s front-loaded then decreasing over 6 days which she started this morning (will be taking 6 today, 5 tomorrow, working down & finishing with one Sunday morning) to deal with the rash itself. The other is an up-to-4x a day pill fo the itching which she started last night. This morning she said she itched but just mildly. She was aware of it but didn’t have to put all of her energy on forcing herself not to scratch or rub. So that’s definitely progress.

    DST messing up my sleep caught up with me today and I didn’t wake up until almost 7. So I’m definitely running behind & need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good morning, 35 with snow and rain showers. The mountains need more snow so no complaints from me in my warm sewing room. Our son’s surgery went well with no surprises so on to healing. He is home and our grand girls are taking good care of him. RonK is on his way to an Apple store for some assistance with his new iPad and I’m relieved he has decided to learn more about how to use it. Best wishes to all.

  18. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 55 and overcast with an expected high of 68. Last night we had thunderstorms and a lot of rain – the earth was happy.

    This morning I got to the bottom of my To-Do stack, sorting the papers into things to do and things I just needed to document. Lots of it got thrown into the shred bag.

    My current plan is to sit and do puzzles and maybe nap.

    See all y’all later!

  19. Wednesday Meese. Today is a busy day for me – haul out the trash, doc apointment and trip to the bank. Lucky it is warmish.
