Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: December 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast although it seems a bit overcast right now – I can only see one star.

The 3 seeds all beat the 2’s in the NCAA Volleyball tournament and the 1 seeds all advanced easily so the next round will be the 1s versus the 3s to see who goes to Kansas City for the championship. One of the 3 vs 2 was a reverse sweep which is the most exciting match in volleyball – one team is up 2 sets to 0 and the other team wins 3 in a row to defeat them. I was glad to see that outcome as the loser was Louisville who I have a particular dislike for. In any event, two matches today and two on Sunday to see who moves on. There are some women’s basketball games today and Sunday also with some intriguing matchups. My Arizona Wildcats don’t play until Monday and my Badgers don’t play until the 21st.

I have a stack of things to do and I need to decide which ones to do in which order. Sometimes on weekends I push off the ones I don’t enjoy as much and then I end up pushing them so far down the road that they end up not getting done. I think I will be smart (!) and do the ones that will be easier to do with no clients emailing me with problems so that anything left over can be done during the work week. I will see if I can create such a list.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s an icy but lovely morning in Ashburn, like chilled champagne. High today 45 F., four-letter-word expected during the night. I actually had a decent night’s sleep! Much to do today. The Shred Truck will be here soon, so must be washed, brushed, and ready to roll with my cart shortly after 9.

    Shred truck is a-comin’
    There’s shreddin’ this morn
    Shred truck is a-comin,
Just as sure as yer born!

(Sung to the tune of “Shrimp boats are a-comin)

In view of recent events, I don’t have enough collected for the truck, but just wait till next time.

Guess what, my neighbor across the hall says there will be another “Open Mic” night in February, and he wants ME to sing a duet with him! Say whut? I can’t sing for toffee, ever since I spent the night throwing up the vile stuff I had to drink for that colonoscopy in 2022. The ENT said I hadn’t damaged my vocal cords but they were swollen. Well, duh, they never became un-swollen. Still, I have a new red dress, I can learn the song, and perhaps the audience will be snockered enough by the time we go on not to notice.

Just to show you how insane I have become, at one point I found Dearly’s perfectly valid U.S. passport, which does not expire until 2028. We always renewed our passports at the same time. Well, now, IT’S disappeared! Not that he needs it, of course. Still, I have to set about the boring biz of getting a passport pic taken, filling out a form, and to explain why I have expired passports for the last 50+ years but not the latest one.

Tonight I’m having dinner with a friend here and then we’re going to the last “Downton Abbey” movie at 7. Should be fun!

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • I hope you find the missing passports! They were surely tucked away “in a safe place” which, because it was new, is not coming immediately to mind. I have found things in very unlikely places over the years going “why the hell did I put that here?”

  3. It’s 33 heading for 54 and hazy. Not dark enough to call it overcast but not light enough to call it sunny. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 74.1 is on track and gained a bit more against the next cloudy day.

Natalia’s at the farm. Her ex texted her yesterday to see if she wanted something else that she hadn’t had time to get during the last “window” he gave her for getting stuff. Yes she does. But instead of having that storage unit cleared out by December she’s still got stuff going into it. Oh well.

    I need to call the vet for a refill on Cloud’s meds as soon as they open. Those dark bottles may protect the drug but it sure makes it hard to see when I’m running out. Fortunately it’s “in-house” so I’ll call them in a bit and be able to pick it up in a few hours. Probably get milk while I’m out. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Aside from the “usual” stuff, Anne Louise Avery is doing an Old Fox Advent Calendar and Mopshell is doing her “12 Days Before Catmass” starting today. So I’m boosting fun things as well as needs list things. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good morning. I have been to kickboxing and got breakfast tacos. I got extra cash to ask the guys working on installing google fiber if one of them would change my kitchen light for me. I tried, and I can’t. It is a weird one, 2 prongs instead of the normal screw-in; still it’s embarrassing to not be able to change a light bulb.
