Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 54 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. 27 here in Kingston and light snow on the weather menu

Good morning. I’ve already done a lot this morning: laundry (because the google fiber installers knocked out water to the complex yesterday), and lunch for the week in addition to my tea for the week. This afternoon I’m making a cream of mushroom soup for dinner. And take my plants that are on shelves down because it might freeze tonight. Sticking to local news because national & international is just too awful. I posted U2’s Love & Peace as my song on the #earworm post; had to use it way too many times.

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s 37 F. in Ashburn. Our high of whatever-it-was occurred at midnight.
What godawful news, Bondi Beach is 20 minutes from the city center of Sydney. I thought Australians didn’t have mass shootings any more since that one 30 or 40 years ago? Evidently I thought wrong. Today is the sad anniversary of Newtown.
Have been up since 6 a.m., going like a bat out of hail. We have a picturesque dusting of snow here in Ashburn. It’s lining the trees beneath the increasingly blue skies very prettily, but with grass poking through the dusting, it may only last the day. The snow moved out at 7 a.m. Fearful winds this afternoon, they say, so I’m thinking French onion soup for lunch and will make chili for dinner.
Going to take the rest to which I feel entitled, then get on with today’s main chores: filling out a passport application and finding a simple winter solstice ritual. Old people can’t stand for very long, especially not in the cold, so the theme of Bringing Back the Light will have to be imparted quick-smart. (Stuffing Mango Mussolini inside a sofa will not be an option.)
I’d wish the Rethugs would find only coal in their stockings on Christmas morning but no, they’re all fossil fools, so they’d like that too much.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Oh, lawks, must have a wrap session soon.
I saw the prettiest little waning crescent moon right next to the morning star over my mountains this morning. It feels like this has been a momentous and exhausting moon cycle. Soon a new moon will give us waxing energy to carry us forward.
It’s 14 windchill 0 and sunny. Which it certainly wasn’t yesterday. We only generated 2.99 KWHs and the m-t-d at 77.16 is not on track. Close enough that we might get back on track by end of day though. So that part’s good.
Did get Cloud’s meds from the vet yesterday and also milk while I was out. Put out the birdseed & suet last night so I wouldn’t have to go to the feeding station this morning. I’ve only been outside to put catfood on the carport for any poor kitty who’s outdoors in this.
Slept hard for some reason – probably good but very unusual for me – and got up an hour later than usual. Cats were not happy. I need to brown some besan today so I can bake with it later this week. And I think make a hearty pork & veggie soup to be ready when Natalia gets home from the farm tonight. Also flip my mattress when my son gets here this afternoon (with groceries) to help me do it. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Oh, and effen Xitter logged me out yesterday and when I logged back in it had the gall to send me both a post and an email saying somebody had just logged into my account using a new device. New as in the same device I’ve been using for years? That kind of new? Je-bus that app sux.
Consider its source, darling.
That will happen if your Internet Provider’s router assigns you a new dynamic address. Usually you keep them for quite a while but occasionally they change. You look new because the Internet Address you are using is new.
AT&T strikes again? Be nice if they’d tell me when they’re assigning me a new “dynamic” address. sigh. Thanks for the info.
Noticed my bottle of milk expired yesterday! I’m just not drinking it fast enough to keep two bottles around. I never drink the stuff straight, only in tea. I use boiling water for oatmeal (Dearly made his with milk) and almond milk for granola.
Thanks for your card, which arrived yesterday! I liked the lady cardinal on it. It was a cardinal, wasn’t it?
Yes, it was a lady cardinal.
I have problems with using milk up before the expiration date too. (In winter it’ll usually last a few days longer. Mostly not in summer.) I don’t use a lot either. Daily to make oatmeal & in coffee if I have it. Pudding in summer and cocoa in winter when I’m in the mood for it (or need the calories or protein).
Good morning, 55, wind and rain in Bellingham today, and the rivers are rising again so more flooding for communities in the county. We are warm and dry and feeling very grateful. I have several buckets of prepped greens to mess around with today and we going to our son’s house for dinner tonight. Best wishes to all.
I hope you stay out of danger! It looks like a mess up there!!
Early Monday Meese. It’s 13 degrees here in Kingston.

Good morning. We may be getting our first freeze, it was certainly brisk walking. Anyway, it’s a pretty crappy Monday. If I was at home, I’d bury myself in astronomy shows and pretend the news just isn’t happening. I hope work is at least distracting.
I hear ya, another! A retreat to one’s personal world is the thing to do right now.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 17 icy degrees F. with a pale blue sky overlaid with white cloud. Glad I’m not going out. What with all the horrific news, Brown University, Rob and Michele Reiner, and the mass murders in Bondi Beach, one hardly knows what to think! Will have to focus on my personal life.
Was it Grandmother Wolf, who is supposedly looking after my interests in the spirit world, who drove me to riffle through some old papers yesterday evening? When I pulled them out I found Nora’s travel documents from 2019. We always had to have a letter, signed by her parents and notarized, that she was indeed our granddaughter and traveling with us on her own passport. Well, GUESS WHAT! It was our habit to make copies of the relevant page of our passports and leave one with her parents in this country and take one copy in each suitcase. So I have a color copy of that page of my passport, with the passport number, issue date, expiry date, a photo of my aged visage, and so forth! If I could find the damn original, it’s valid until 2028. Luckily I haven’t reported it lost yet. Have two meetings this morning, so when I return, perhaps I can go to the website and work with this. Anyway, praise Goddess! Don’t feel quite as terrible as I did.
Off I go to get washed and brushed for my first meeting at 10 with the UUs. (Wistfully) Wish I had time to go to the gym. However, I’ll get a decent amount of walking in today, going from one meeting to another.
STILL have4n’t done the dishes! Will it be before my 10 a.m. meeting? After I return at noon? Eh? Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Yay! Better to have a copy to work from even if you can’t use it to travel with.
It’s 21, windchill 17, heading for 47 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 7.64 KWHs and the m-t-d at 84.75 is back on track. Barely.
Cold dry weather and my fingertips are starting to split. Sigh. One more thing against winter. I love the no bugs part. And evening fires. I even have a certain nostalgia about the holiday season. But otherwise winter is, well it’s not good for my body. Oh well. The soup I made for dinner last night was quite nice.
I had a restless night, not sure why, and am a bit groggy this morning. Hands are stiff, as usual this time of year, so I’m a bit creaky and slow. But I saw Herself this morning, a “Cheshire Moon” (the smile without the cat). Always lovely. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 53 and more rain outside my windows today. It’s both very wet and unseasonably warm. I need to work at my desk this morning and get a few packages in the mail this afternoon. Then if energy allows I’ll make some more winter arrangements….it’s creative and helps me cope with the reality of the troubled world I find myself living in. Best wishes to all.
Good afternoon, meeses! Monday …
It is 80 degrees and sunny in Tucson. I am not sure how long this unseasonably warm weather will stick around but it feels good to be back in shorts again.
My Badger women’s volleyball team beat Texas in Texas in dominant fashion and will travel to Kansas City to play Kentucky in the national semifinal. The winner of that game will play for the championship. Fun times! The other 3 vs 1 seed from yesterday, Texas A&M, beat previously undefeated Nebraska at Nebraska to advance. They will play Pitt. It would be fun if two 3 seeds met in the national championship game.
Later tonight the Arizona Wildcats basketball team plays their last pre-conference game against Chicago State. Last chance to test the current starters before things get real.
After a very productive weekend, this morning I foolishly started 6 things at one time. It took until about an hour ago to finish everything. Tomorrow, smaller bites.
See all y’all later!
Tuesday Meese. 14 degrees here in Kingston this morning.

The Orange Menace looks more and more desiccated every time I see him. I wonder how long he can continue before they 25th Amendment him?
Good morning. Chilly, but at least not freezing. I came home early yesterday because I was on the google fiber “fix the water” list yesterday, so of course never heard from them. Well, I’m here all day today so maybe it will get fixed. Anyway, hi. Tuesday. Maybe things at least won’t get worse?
It’s 46, windchill 44, heading for 57 and overcast. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs before the clouds moved in so the m-t-d at 91 is on track. Barely. And won’t be by end of day if the clouds don’t clear off.
I won’t say I was awakened by a truck backing up to pull out a full construction dumpster and putting in an empty one, although Natalia told me she was, but it did convince me it was time to get out of my warm bed and start my day. I hate getting out of bed about 9 months of the year. My feet are cold and will be until I sit down by the fire to read about 12 hours from now. Oh well.
Laundry to do today. Also bake a pork roast. But those are for this afternoon. Now I need to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning I saw the waning crescent in the eastern sky – she will be new on Friday 12/19 at 6:43pm MST.
Weird how the literal nazis who are part of the JD Vance Fan Club seem to be overlooked by him as he attributes antisemitism to immigrants. I wonder if decent people will take another look at the Republican Party, take note of who the leaders are and decide if it is really worth a few dollars saved in marginal tax rates to embrace the kind of right-wing hatred of the other that led to the Holocaust and a ripped apart Europe. I hope they reject it.
My Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team won in an uneven performance but a win is a win. We are getting contributions from players who were projected to be the starters so that is good. I misread my schedule and there is one more team on their pre-conference schedule, a team I never heard of, Bellarmine, a small Catholic school in Louisville. Then they will be ready to begin the Big XII season.
I got some significant work done yesterday and this morning so I can check-in at a reasonable time. I have a few things I would like to do this morning but nothing urgent.
See all y’all later!
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 30 F. this morning, quite cold enough, under blue skies and sunlight. That “dusting” of snow on the grass still hasn’t melted, although the roads on campus are clear.
Sitting here waiting for the IT guy, who is supposedly coming this morning. Hope he shows up soon, because I have a memorial service to attend at 1 o’clock and a nail appointment at 3.
Yesterday was full of meetings. After that I went to dinner with three other members of the Drama Club, and it was so late by the time we lurched home there was no evening left. Also, I have now filled out the State Department Lost Passport Form no fewer than EIGHT times and must fill it out again. Just as I thought I’d finally managed it, I had to download bloody Adobe and by the time I did that, the screen had vanished. So I will try for No. 9.
Meantime, back at the ranch, my new Mac didn’t want to accept my password for Navy Fed, so I had to get on the phone with a very nice man who helped me change it. They had updated the rules to say the pw couldn’t end with a special character. Then I asked Mr. Super Nice Guy (blessings on all his camels) to see whether the payment to Chase bank had in fact been made. It took some doing but he said yes, it had, and it had posted. So why’d I get a grim-gram yesterday about how “Your score has gone down two points, chicky-boom, and you better start paying on time or else!” I pay a week ahead of the due date in full. Chase bank can go and do something anatomically impossible to itself.
Thanks for letting me vent! WHERE IS JOSH? I have to leave here for the memorial service at 12:30.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a calmer day for me, please. Mah blood pressure was way high this morning.
Good morning, 47, clouds and rain in Bellingham. So I do one thing, then cross two things off the list because I’m to damn tired! Oh well, Christmas will soon be over and fun will be had regardless. Best wishes to all.
