Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good afternoon, Moosekind! It’s 58 F. in Ashburn, if you please, and our ugly gray morning has given way to weak sunshine and partly blue skies.
The last few days have been crazy-busy. Yesterday I went to Physical Therapy and after S. put me through my paces, she gave me a list of the same exercises to do at home. I’m supposed to do them twice a day at home. Say what, sugah? If I do those, as well as regular gym (which I need), I’ll have NO time for anything else.
Today I was taken out for a large, lovely lunch by a friend. After the main course, the server asked what we wanted for dessert. When the magic words “carrot cake” were uttered, I quivered and asked for a slice to take home in a box. I’m going to share it with the other half of the duet across the hall. Like me, he is a carrot cake fiend.
Speaking of duets, we watched some videos on his iPad and picked two songs that were more recognizable to me—did I mention this before? The Kingston Trio’s “MTA” and Willie Nelson’s “Ain’t She Sweet” should be easy enough to learn. Then we went to a late dinner with two other members of the Drama Club. Here’s the thing about late dinners: by the time one arrives home, there is no evening left. Went to bed on time but had a miserable night.
Tonight I’m having dinner with some neighbors. Not much dinner, mind you, after that lunch. Hoping to be able to get some stuff done this evening.
Little did I think that at this time of my life I’d be living in a country that had a madman in the White House. Venezuela? GREENLAND? For Goddess’ sake! If he attacks and NATO comes to Greenland’s defense, that would be the end of the NATO alliance! Why does no one stop him? Is it the threat of being primaried? What would be so bad about that? All I can say is, it’s INSANE and we shouldn’t have to put up with a madman who thinks he’s king of the world. As for Stephen (Goebbels) Miller, a pox on all his camels and may the fumes from his poppy fields overcome him.
Well, I’m going to drink my tea. I’ve decided I’ll cut down, not out. One cup of coffee a day only, and one mug of tea a day only.
Hoping everyone at the Pond has had a good day so far. BTW, exercise is BO-RING and she said I’d have to do leg exercises for the rest of my life. Well, uh, ah, I’ll try it.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 46 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 55. Partly sunny this morning but the rain returns in the afternoon. Yesterday it rained all day long with a front stalled over us. It varied from light rain to heavy rain to heavier rain. Today there should be some breaks so that I can get my walk in. This is the winter rain we were missing last year and in 2024 but which we had an abundance of in 2023. The rain is needed to fill the reservoirs especially this sort of steady rain rather than wild downpours.
It is so depressing to see history repeating itself. Republicans attack a country for the oil, take it over and try to run it, make a hash of it then turn it over to the next Democratic president to sort it out. That president gets blamed for any less than perfect solution to end our engagement and is castigated by the right-wing. I wonder if Marco Rubio’s presidential ambitions will be helped or hurt by his nation building plans? I guess we will soon find out if a core of the MAGAts really voted for the rotting pumpkin because he said he was against foreign wars or if it was just more bs covering up that they all voted for the christian white nationalist because they are rabid racists and haters of everything decent.
I always forget how time consuming delayed end of year accounting is. I need to put in a calendar reminder for about June 30th, nagging myself to gather accounting data to make the end of year easier.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Got to work early so I walked a mile & a half. Two days in the office then I’m off for a week, actually more. I posted U2’s Peace On Earth in the #earworm thread, that song is getting too much use lately. “Their lives were bigger than any big idea”
It was 55 at dawn, already 63, heading for 70 and overcast. Supposed to get rain today, which we need, and then – maybe – clear off in the afternoon. I hope so. Yesterday we generated 6.3 KWHs and the m-t-d at 41.9 is not quite on track. And will probably lose ground today.
Natalia’s having a bad day. With her aunt’s death the legally-blind cousin who lived with her aunt (they sort of were caregivers for each other) will probably be moving to NJ to live with her older sister and that’s the end of the “Seattle connection” for the family. And since the last time the family gathered there, a few years ago, it was to disperse her mother’s ashes, that bites. She texted the Chair saying she was having “a bad day” and she’d be in late. He texted back for her to take the day if she needed it. He doesn’t know about the death in the family but he knows her divorce was rough and work, with all the searches going on, is too.
The not exactly warm but not really cold plus a front moving in is messing with my back/joints and sinuses. And lack of sunshine always messes with my head. Sigh. Oh well. Not even real problems compared with being without shelter or food or needed medications – or being shot by ICE. I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Thursday morning, Meese! Forgot to tell y’all that I saw the Moon on Sunday night. She was pale yellow, absolutely lovely. Next full moon is February 1. Right now we have clear skies and sunlight in Ashburger. It’s 52 F., going up to 59 F. later.
Tomorrow we are supposed to have blessed, blessed rain, but I’m not holding my breath.
Must jump in the shower, get dressed and head for the drugstore, which luckily is on campus. Have to pick up some spirolactone. I’m slowly working my way through the 11 items on my “To Do” list, but this afternoon I’ve the writers’ group and the Happy Hour Sing-Along. So it will be late before I get home.
Oh, dear. I’m already tired and the day’s only half over! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Good morning, 40 and cloudy outside my windows today. My dermatology appointment was just a consult so patch testing will happen after he returns from paternity leave. But given how reactive my immune system is it’s prolly best to wait. I haven’t made any progress with putting Christmas away but it can wait as well. Best wishes to all.
