Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 100. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I could see the moon high in the western sky on my walk this morning – she is already missing a lot off the bottom. The moon is a constant in the clear blue desert skies and although the dark sky moon is spectacular, she shines down on us during much of the day.
It was not a very good sport day yesterday – the two WNBA teams I watch most closely lost and the Minnesota Lynx decided to take the day off and let the Racist Enabling Indiana Fever win and improve their seeding. That is what happens when we get to this time of year, the teams with nothing left to play for rest their starters and their decisions change the rest of the seedings. The good news is that Dee’s team, the New York Liberty, won and will either host the Phoenix Mercury or visit the Phoenix Mercury for the first round. I will root for “may the best team win” and I suspect that the trajectory will give that edge to the Liberty.
All of my projects ran long yesterday and now I am behind again. I have one thing I absolutely have to do then I am going to shut down for the rest of the day.
See all y’all later!
Good Thursday morning Jan. Will be watching both of our teams this evening.
Last day of the WNBA regular season. I watched the Connecticut Sun game last night and saw the hugs and tears after the game. The club is for sale and they will likely end up in Hartford or possibly Boston. The franchise has a $320 million offer on the table and all they have to do is clear the sale through the terrible WNBA commissioner who wants to control who the tribe can sell to and where it can be moved. Senator Blumenthal from Connecticut, who was once the AG there, sent a letter to her telling her that she better not interfere in the sale or there will be anti-trust actions. How can you tell someone that they can’t get top dollar for a franchise they purchased and added value to over the years? Sheesh.
Good morning, 67 and light clouds. I’m using my cane to clear the cobwebs along the garden paths so the season is officially changing. Bri will be here today so the garden will have some attention. I have kept the watering going but haven’t been able to do much more, but the summer flowers are still blooming and it’s looking inviting regardless.
Fourteen years ago we were on the boat, staying at Roche Harbor when a blood clot changed my life. Thanks everyone for keeping me company as I’ve rested, elevated, and complained about my BCH leg. As always , my best wishes to all.
Hard to believe that was fourteen years ago! That was also when the DK boycott changed that site forever. I chose to keep my own little daily diary running through the boycott for those like you who needed a place to gather. I only stayed there for one more year.
Good Thursday morning, Meese! It’s 64 F. in Ashburn under clearing skies, alas and alack! No more lovely drizzle. The high will be 81 F.
This morning I have to run to TJ’s for a few items, get ready to meet my writers’ group from 1 to 3:30 to discuss our September 11 essays, then to the Happy Hour singers from 4 to 5. My “Diana” blonde wig arrived yesterday. I’m going to put it on Monday night for Rehearsal, as they’re going to fine-tune our headsets. We ran through Act 1 twice last night, will do Act 2 tomorrow. We get to sit down in Act 2, how marvelous!
Do you all think they’ll find the sniper? If it’s a professional hit, I don’t see how they will. I feel deep sorrow for the 6-year-olds who were murdered at Sandy Hook and for all the other innocents who were murdered, not for guys who worshipped the Second Amendment.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning. Only sad thing about the shooting yesterday is that political violence is becoming too common. And it overshadowed a school shooting. Used a U2 song for the music post on Blue Sky, getting too much use out of this one:
Lay down
Lay down your guns
All your daughters of Zion
All your Abraham sons
It is difficult to feel any sympathy when a loud and proud Second Amendmenter who advocated for gun violence to destroy his own enemies – or people he found distasteful – ends up a victim of gun violence.
Just saw a post that said: “I don’t support what happened to CK, but CK supported what happened.”
Remembering the WTC where I worked.

{{{Denise}}} I’m so glad you didn’t go to work that day. Sorry for those who did, of course. But still glad you didn’t. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. The upper 90s forecasts have been turning into low 100s but “they say” that the end of the 100s is just around the corner. Tomorrow and Saturday we are expecting rain. It sure looked like it was going to rain last night with the angry clouds over the mountains but it all stayed on the other side of the mountains and to the north.
Another one time honor shat on by the Felon – lowering the flag to half staff to honor the life of a person who despised, loudly and proudly, everyone who is not a white cis christian male pretty much ends that tradition. Add it to giving the presidential medal of honor to Rush Limpballs and toss it in the trash.
Busy day, see all y’all later!
It’s 68 heading for 92, humid as heck, and overcast. Yesterday the warm front moved in during the late afternoon, clouds with it, and we generated 13.39 KWHs. The m-t-d at 129.3 is still on track but I’m not sure if it will still be by end of day. Although the widget says it’s supposed to clear off later today. (I wish I knew how many degrees above the horizon the sun is at 6 pm right now. Because that’s how many degrees of production I’ll be losing from now on because of where they sited that poorly-designed eyesore next door. sigh.)
No pulled-out fur tufts on the floor for 2 days so Cloud is definitely getting better. And Natalia is talking about minor repairs to cat damage (and some leak damage the insurance company didn’t cover fixing years ago) I’ve just lived with – it’s all cosmetic, not structural – so she’s definitely doing better too. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Happy Friday. Okay, well, Friday. Terrible night’s sleep. And we’re short staffed again today. Watched Star Wars last night because I want to be in a world where fascists lose and are not mourned.
Jan – did you see this?
Good for them. She won’t listen, she is a handmaiden to the owners (NBA and private) who want to get all of the money back they ever put into building the WNBA before they share any of the revenue with the players. She is a very poor accountant (her background is as a CPA for a public accounting firm) if she doesn’t understand “sunk costs.” You cannot include money that was spent and is gone in the evaluation of something’s worth. You look at what it will generate in revenue going forward to decide on what you can spend and can’t spend to keep the enterprise running. I see full stadiums and great TV rating, they see the losses during the lean years and cry in their martinis.
The good news is that Unrivaled is expanding – adding teams and players and seating – and we won’t be without Womens Basketball.
Friday Meese. Fall weather here in Kingston.

Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 77 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Mostly sunny skies with a slight chance for rain. We had about 4 minutes of rain yesterday evening – there was a lot of activity over the mountains and north of here. That seems to be the pattern this monsoon season, everything is staying east and north of the city. Tomorrow the chance of rain goes up quite a bit higher.
A quick scan of the news tells me to avoid the news today. I really don’t know how we survive the barrage of bad news that assaults us daily. There does not seem to be any end in sight or even a brief respite. War between NATO and Russia? Good lord. The President of the United States telling his political allies to kill his political enemies? Goddess, help us.
See all y’all later!
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s 63 F. in Ashburned, going up to 82 F. Cloudless and lovely, but the leaves are mostly brown, not beautiful autumn colors. That’s what you get from drought.
The Stanley Steemers are supposed to come over this afternoon and “steem.” Good. It’s going to be dry today, so I’ll put the cushions back out on the porch furniture. Then Dearly will have somewhere to hide while they’re here. I’ll be at the nail salon.
Tonight is our Building’s cocktail party, and then I’ll have rehearsal. This morning I’ve got boring old Cardiac Rehab.
So the Felon says there is a suspect in custody. He’s probably a RWNJ, so they’ll have to admit one of their own killed another RWNJ. My fundamentalist relatives on Facebark are “praying for Charlie Kirk and his family.” Mah Goddess, they are such fascists!
Have already done a day’s work this morning, but I must carry on so I can get to Cardiac Rehab on time. Will be so glad when this is OVER! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
It’s 67 heading for 93 heat index 98 and mostly sunny today. Yesterday we generated 14.21 KWHs and the m-t-d at 143.5 is still on track.
Well, it’s Friday. And that doesn’t mean much to me as the only things about my routine that changes for the weekend is that I add housework (bathrooms Saturday, vacuuming Sunday) to my regular lot of stuff. But folks still working in offices get a break. Natalia will be leaving for the farm after dinner. I worry about her doing that this winter when it’ll be dark by the time she’s home from work but she’s a grownup, if that’s what she wants to do then that’s what she’ll do. For now, it’s still daylight by the time she gets there so it’s good. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 73 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Clear skies now but we are expecting rain this afternoon. I saw the moonglow on the edge of my deck but the moon herself was not visible in the morning sky.
Unfortunately, because the christian white nationalist being lauded as a martyr had lived in Scottsdale Arizona, the Phoenix paper (one of the two I subscribe to) is filled with stories of his murder and (gag!) how wonderful he was. He was no such thing – he was a terrible person and no white (!) washing will fix that. His murder is a terrible thing for our country, not because he or his hatemongering will be missed by decent people, but because killing people for their viewpoints or their political affiliation should never be tolerated in a civil society. That the tRump malAdministration is targeting people (with visa revocation and firings) those who express their viewpoints on the events should also not be tolerated – I hope people feel safe soon to start pushing back against that.
I woke up filled with energy to get caught up on projects and I am having some success. I best get back to it.
See all y’all later!
Good morning Meese. Posted
Whew! I finally got in! The Moose is in a kickish mood today.
Good Saturday morning, Meese. We’re having our usual, lovely, bone-dry day today. Right now it’s 68 F., heading for a high of 84 F.
Dearly Beloved is fading away before my eyes. Only coffee and orange juice, plus one scoop of cereal for breakfast. He wants only a bowl of vegetable beef soup for lunch. He sleeps more during the day than during the night, At least, this is the 21st century and he has his iPhone, his iPad, and the telly to keep him amused. He no longer seems to have the energy to do the dishes, which has always been his job. I’m doing them now.
{{{Diana}}} Healing Energy – used however it needs to be – to you & Dearly. Moar {{{HUGS}}} Blessed Be.
It’s 69 heading for 92/heat index 99 and sunny. Which is good since the house next door now has an added tacky angle on the roof and my panels start getting shade by 5:20, are completely covered by 6:30. sigh.
Went to the Farmers Market this morning to pick up apples. I love Jonathans. And got some Sungold cherry tomatoes at the vendor next to the apple stand on my way out. Tinge of nostalgia for the days when I’d spend at least an hour at the Market, seeing what was there and visiting with vendors I knew. But that Market as well as those days are gone. The Market is bigger and busier than it was back then. And while very few people masked back then (some did, even well pre-Covid) the Market was much less crowded and didn’t line both sides of the streets in those days so it was safer to not mask back then. Oh well, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
…to continue:
Meanwhile, I have to get ready to go to the Shred Truck, which is here until noon, then pick up the dry cleaning, then come home and take a nap before I go pick up dinner. I want to eat early so I can get ready for Open Mic night. My usual escort isn’t available, so I’m just going to show up early and hope to get in. Oh, and I need to visit the garden to water the poor little plants. Will continue to drive with the car radio off because I’m sick of the news. I did glance through the Washington Poop to see the headlines and learned that thousands, possibly millions, will lose their health insurance and there’s nothing we can do about it! Damn him and damn all Rethugs! What are those unfortunate people going to do?
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning. Yesterday was an unpleasant one at work. I work in a call center, and Fridays of course we are short-staffed so those of us there take more calls. I picked up a call and a man started yelling at me. He said he’d gotten “hundreds” of calls & texts from our number. Which is literally impossible. Our phones are landline desk phones from the 1990s, there is no texting. Also, there were 4 of us answering calls for a statewide agency, even if we wanted to harass some random guy, it’s just not actually possible. He yelled for 10 minutes. He had also yelled at 2 of my co-workers earlier.
When my hands stopped shaking, I ordered cookies to be delivered. When they arrived, I went to the shop’s website and complimented the driver. On my way home, I listened to my “lullaby” playlist. And I’m remembering that 99% of the time, people are glad to hear from me/my agency and we help people. Also I’m definitely going to kickboxing this morning. So those are my ways of dealing with badness.
Oh – and I’m getting my flu & covid shots this afternoon. so up yours, RFK.
I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago and COVID back in July. Our governor, Katie Hobbs, signed an executive order saying that health care providers need to provide the COVID vaccine on the old schedule not the RatFKjr schedule.
