Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. Watching local news to minimize exposure to the war stuff. Every time I think I couldn’t hate the rotting pumpkin more, he finds a way to make things worse. Anyway, loving the smell of my tea and, like I said, trying to avoid the war news.
+100 for “rotting pumpkin”.

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind. It’s going to be overcast and 45 F. in Ashburn. Today I have a lunch off-campus with a nice guy who will talk my ear off. Perhaps I can have a nap after I return home, during which my ear will magically grow back.
Dee, after all the other awful things that have happened in the Caribbean nations, now passengers are stranded! Who’d have thought it? I just can’t get over the awfulness. Next thing we know, American troops will invade Greenland.
Dinner with the UUs yesterday evening was OK, not very lively. Afterwards E. and I had our usual Saturday night date at the movies. It was “Karate Kid Legends.” I still can’t quite figure out the difference between Kung Fu and Karate. All I know is that I enjoy watching it performed by experts. We’re going to see “Atonement” next week.
First world problem No. 435: Apparently, as one ages, thick mucus claims the vocal cords. It’s exacerbated by the consumption of dairy products. Because I somehow have to sing in a few weeks, I’m doing everything I can to improve my croaky singing voice. Accordingly, I just gave away nearly half a gallon of milk and am now waiting for someone to claim the unopened pint of half-and-half. No milk in my strong black Indian tea will probably drive me nuts, but I need to do everything I can to improve my voice.
Next up: Standing in front of a mirror, singing through a straw.
With that thought, I will leave you. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
From what I read, invading Greenland will create a bit of a problem because it is part of Denmark and, as a NATO country, Denmark is protected under that NATO pact. That would require the rest of NATO to attack and drive out the American invaders! Holey Moley!!
I have a more or less permanent hoarseness possibly from aging or maybe from my illspent youth. Thankfully I am never called upon to sing! Good luck clearing it up.
It’s 36 heading for 53 and overcast. Yesterday we generated 2.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 15.2 is not on track and losing ground.
Natalia and I went to IHOP for breakfast. There actually was a family there but it was easy to be 20+ feet away from the only occupied table. It was admittedly twice the number of calories (for the same number of protein grams) as I normally have for breakfast. But it was a nice treat. Especially considering I haven’t done that in at least 4 years. LOL. And it’s a good to do little things that keep one’s spirits up occasionally, considering all that’s going on in the world that we can do absolutely nothing about but abhor. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. Too warm for a jacket. Walked 1.6 mi, I was here early so needed to fill the time. On the news, one of the anchors said this is the Monday-est Monday of the year. I just have to make it through this week, then I’m off for a week & a half. Step one: stay awake all day today.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 63. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I could see the moonlight on the wash and the green space which meant she was still high overhead – no sign of her yet in the western sky. It looks like we will hover around 60 for the high over the next week with the possibility of a low of 32 next weekend. It gets cold in these places that are built for Tucson weather and have no R factor in the windows and probably little insulation. I shouldn’t complain when so many are in sub-zero weather but, there, I just did!
Three of the NFL teams I was rooting for won over the weekend which may be a record for me. I have no NFL team allegiance right now as don’t like the current management of my long-time team, the Green Bay Packers, and the Arizona Cardinals team is simply awful, and worse, stupid. I was glad to see that the team that allowed two of their players to play even though they had been arrested for brutal attacks on women did not get the number 1 seed.
In women’s sports, a much more pleasant subject, my Wisconsin Badgers mounted a furious comeback to beat the Penn State Nittany Lions at home. They have now won 9 straight games at home to open the season, a feat not accomplished since 2007! In 2007, I had season tickets and probably saw some of those games. This morning the Unrivaled League begins play at 11am Mountain Time. There are 4 games scheduled and I can’t wait!!
I have a few little accounting projects still lingering and a long to-do list to begin the new year but should be able to work at my own pace for at least the next week.
See all y’all later!
My Gamecocks played an ugly game but got the win. Congrats to your Badgers!
I saw that your game was closer than expected!
Yes – we had some sloppy play – and the new team hasn’t quite jelled yet – but a win is a win – I’ll take it.
It’s 47 heading for 67 and clear at the moment. If I lean over slightly I can see the waning moon out the window beside my desk still fairly high in the western sky. Yesterday we generated 6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 21 at least didn’t lose any more ground.
The holidays were very productive for Natalia as far as getting stuff done, but Lordy is there a lot left to do. And now she’s got to put her own stuff to the side while she deals with work stuff – the new Chair starting, interviewee today for one of the many positions the dept has open, and unfortunately dealing formally with long-term behavioral pattern issues (punctuality/attendance, communication, & insubordination) with AA2 that she’s let go far too long hoping verbal warnings would pull him up.
Today for most of the office-type working world the new year starts today. It’s the first “normal” work week of the year anyway. Although tomorrow is Epiphany/3 Kings Day it’s not a holiday as far as the Corporatists are concerned. Not that it makes any difference to me. I boost every day. Period. And I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

Good afternoon, 42 and partly cloudy outside my windows today. I should be putting Christmas away but I’ve got my legs up in a relatively comfortable way so I’m just staying put. I’m through with PT for now and per Keith I’m to lay low while the nerves in my back settle down and then I can resume limited activity, mostly just walking. The arthritis in my spine is advancing so my activity needs to reflect that reality. Over Christmas, when the house was fill of people I choose to use my cane more than my walker but that wasn’t a wise choice for me. So lesson learned, I’ll just use the walker and try to stop worrying about it getting in the way. Best wishes to all.
People who love you will not begrudge your walker getting “in the way”. When my mother became less mobile, she used her walker constantly and it never left her side. She felt steadier and more secure knowing that she was less likely to take a tumble which would exacerbate the pain in her weakened hip.
It took me literally two minutes to put away the holiday decorations. Single ornament removed from tree and placed in ornament box, tabletop tree with built-in lights put into its box, extension cord into ornaments box. Boxes stacked to go to storage locker. Voila! Next year we are hoping to be in a place where we can have a real tree so I am enjoying this “easy holiday cleanup.” :)
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 64. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast. Looks like some rain arriving tomorrow and Thursday ushering in a cold spell. I see freezing temperatures are predicted for the weekend!
Gak! The headlines. Gak! January Freaking 6th will always be a permanent reminder that our nation’s laws are inadequate to handle a bloody coup attempt. I will not celebrate the 250th anniversary of the failure of imagination that led to that day, where white male landowners and slaveholders met to concoct a government that assumed men would be honorable and that the only guardrails that were needed was their belief that white male landowners would always do the right thing. We should have had Founding Mothers setting up the government because they would never have assumed such a thing. The Founding Fathers set up a government where a literal insurrectionist could regain power, pardon friends and punish foes and take America down a dark path. Fie on them.
I am still about a day away from finishing up my personal end of year work after getting slowed down by some tasks that ran long yesterday. I best get back to it.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Record warm overnight low, and no rain still. Sigh. Getting ready for work, avoiding the news.
It’s 47 heading for 70 and the fog is clearing off. Looks to be a mostly sunny day today. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 28 while still not on track gained a little ground.
Happy 3 Kings Day. I’ll start taking down my decorations later today when I’ve reached a good breaking point in my boosting. The main time I wish I had an actual fireplace and not this very small wood stove is when it comes time to burn the Yule wreath. I can’t just take off the decorations and put it on the fire. I have to take it apart and burn it branch by branch. But that little bit of ritual will still get done. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Three kings Day for me – we open our gifts today
{{{Dee}}} Enjoy!
Good morning, 44 and raining. I have an appointment for allergy testing this afternoon so I hope I get some results because the rash on my face is swollen, itches and burns. I hope this new dermatology clinic can help me sort some way to manage because given my immune system I suspect this is another autoimmune issue triggered by covid. Oh well, a bit of personal misery may distract me from the reality of Jan 6th. Best wishes to all.
Ooh, that sounds awful, princess. Hope the dermatologist can help. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Good morning. Another way too warm day coming, it’s great weather for walking but January should be cold. Getting ready for work and doing last edits on my music diary for Saturday. (did I mention that I’m hosting the music diary at the orange place? Saturday at 6 central)
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 50 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 52. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast with rain expected later in the morning lasting most of the day. I am glad I don’t have to go anywhere today!
Gak, my eyes! The history being rewritten! I hope that future historians, should they be allowed to survive, will make sure that what is happening is documented and shared.
My Arizona Wildcats won their first Big XII conference game in front of a crowd of 6,500 at home. I was brave enough to watch it live on ESPN+ and was rewarded by seeing the win. Terrible field goal percentage and missing most of their 3s but they forced 27 turnovers and made 30 of 33 free throws. It was enough to win. This team has a lot of gaps but last night “hustle” was not missing. On Saturday they play UCF, a beatable team, at home before they go on the road to get slaughtered by TCU.
I still have one last accounting project to finish and then I can start client project work. The good news is that everyone is quiet this week probably busy with their own end of year / beginning of year projects.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Raining and icy here and I have an early appointment which I’m going to try to change.
Puerto Rico
JGo and the statists want to bring these crazy, unhinged, violent lunatics to our homeland. Today more than ever, with the United States on the brink of a civil war, we must seek to separate ourselves as soon as possible from that sick, violent, racist, genocidal, and fascist society, NOW!
Kee-riced! Did the rotting pumpkin really say that?!!?
It’s 33 heading for 71 and clear enough that I can see the moon out my west windows but widget says clouds are supposed to move in later today. I hope a lot later. Yesterday we generated 7.21 KWHs and with the m-t-d at 35 we need one more day of that to catch up/get back on track.
The Yule decorations are put away for another year. Yesterday just before dark I burned the wreath outside. I remembered that I had a “tabletop” charcoal grill for picnics stashed back in the carport closet. It worked very well. That was much more end-of-Yuletide burning the greenery than what I’ve been doing – using plier to take the wreath apart and adding it, branch by branch, to the fire in the woodstove. Prayers can go up with the flames and smoke either way but the symbolism is much stronger burning the wreath as a wreath.
Natalia’s aunt died yesterday. Out in OR. Not exactly sudden as she’s had poor health for years & was in & out of hospital a lot during 2025. But it’s went from “this one’s more serious” to “gone” in 24 hours so it’s a bit of a jolt. She’s only got 1 aunt left on this plane and that one is pretty non compos. Same here so I understand.
There is so much deadly coming at us from so many different directions. And escalating. But it’s not here yet so – keep on keepin’ on. Time to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
