Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. I watched the 2 alternative SOTU things last night, much speechifying. I’ve got the local news on, so I’m not really aware what the rotting pumpkin talked about. Hope everyone has a good day today.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning the sky was intensely clear and I could see a gajillion stars. The waxing moon is not visible in my early morning dark sky until Friday (in the WNW) which is not the best sight line for me. She will be back over my mountains a few days after the full moon on March 3rd.
I did not watch or follow the rotting pumpkin’s antics. I hope people hated the speech. I was extremely irritated about how he chose to play the US Men’s Hockey team against the US Women’s Hockey team. The women’s team politely declined being a prop at his Shate of the Union due to academic and team obligations which was smart and true. The Wisconsin Badger’s women returning from the Olympics will be participating in the WCHA tournament this weekend and then we hope to get deep into the NCAA Frozen Four tournament. I am sure no one wanted to be a prop for the fasicst overlord. That the men’s team had no pride is not a surprise to me.
I watched the Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team play their last home game last night. They had a nice crowd and a rare victory. They will likely end up with 3 wins in the conference; they have one more away game and then are done with the regular season but the last place team can’t get past them even with a loss. They are looking forward to the Big XII tournament where anything can happen, maybe even one win! That they had exactly 1 player when the new coach was hired and were able to win games and not end up in last place in the conference was amazing. The fan support has been phenomenal with great attendance all year. It is anyone’s guess if the portal and recruiting will be kind to them for their second year of rebuilding. I hope it is. It makes me sad to see teams upended by the terrible decisions made by the men in charge of the NCAA and the conferences with realignment and allowing cash bonuses to players to change teams. :(
I have a list of projects that I need to get done before my Inbox fills up with new requests so I best get back to it.
See all y’all later!
It’s 57 heading for 71 and partly cloudy. At least I can see some bits of blue sky today, unlike yesterday. We generated 11.73 KWHs and the m-t-d is at 240.77 with 4 more production days left in February.
Didn’t watch the SOTU of course. I haven’t actually watched once since Bill Clinton’s last although I did read the transcripts of Obama’s. I got rid of my TV after SCOTUS presented the presidency to W. (& haven’t missed it.)
The cough is no way gone but it’s getting better. My neighbor has been having the same issues so we’re pretty sure it’ from something the construction crew was spraying 2 weeks ago. sigh. I had a totally wretched night and will be lucky if I don’t fall asleep in my chair – and hit the floor. This chair isn’t designed for sleeping in. Meanwhile I’m very slow and groggy. But I still have boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good gray Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s gray and cool in Ashburn this morning.
Last night I decided to go to bed early but not to take a hot water bottle with me. BIG mistake! I woke up with my left foot in such pain (from arthritis) that I wanted to utter one scree-am. I wish there were something one could do for arthritis. As it was, I took some Tylenol, used the Hempvana AND the frankincense and myrrh cream. After a while it seemed better.
I’m going to the gym before the IT guy gets here (between 12 and 2) and using the rowing machine if it’s free. Am wondering about rehearsal tonight. There seems to be no word.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Good afternoon, 49 and cloudy in Bellingham. The lawn company is working here today so that means spring is coming too, yay! When Bri comes back next month I want to do a serious pruning so it will be easier to just maintain the plants this year. I’ll have to discipline myself re buying new plants but I think I have a plan to keep things simple enough to just enjoy being outdoors without to much unrealistic work. This round of leg pain is improving so I need to maintain progress there too.
I finally found the bolt of fabric I need to finish a project so now I’ve got my three piles sorted and ready to work on. And as with gardening, I need to keep the work easy enough to be fun…..my new challenge! Best wishes to all.
Glad to hear about an easing of the pain! I had my eye on a bush I want to plant but I found out that it is not very attractive without the blooms. I will have to rethink it.
Good morning. Walked 45 minutes, 1.6 mi. Diary about the AIDS Ride goes up at the orange place at 7. Hoping to get some of the matching funds.
And it is up: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/2/26/2368773/-Donations-matched-to-the-Hill-Country-Ride
{{{anotherdemocrat}}} I’ll boost & donate in a bit once I get everything set up. Bless you for doing this. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
It’s 48 heading for 74 and the widget says partly cloudy although it’s sunny at the moment. Techbros took down/effed up the SolarEdge monitoring again. Seriously took down sometime yesterday afternoon. The address shows in the address line then there’s a totally white/blank screen below it. Not even the SolarEdge banner this time. I’m glad I decided to keep doing my spreadsheet after it finally came back up last time. At least the weather is pleasant enough it’s not an issue to go out to the inverter and get the data directly. Yesterday we generated 10.7 KWHs and the m-t-d is 249.1 with 3 more production days in February.
Someone bought a gift off the wishlist of a disabled person on my Mutual Aid thread Tuesday and some gee dee sumbitch stole it from in front of their door – in their apartment vestibule – before they could get to the door to get it. There really are evil people in this world.
I’ve got to stop using the besan/bean flour in my GF flour mix. It’s seriously starting to upset my stomach. Considering that I’m sensitive to beans anyway I guess I was lucky to be able to use it for 5 years. But there really isn’t anything with that good a nutrition profile to replace it with. Oh well. I got by before I started using it. I’ll get by now I’ve stopped. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protection Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Update on the wishlist thing. A neighbor found it & it is now with its intended recipient. There ARE happy endings, aren’t there?
Yay!
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 72 degrees on my weather widget but 82 on my outdoor thermometer. I think I will take my walk now because it is likely going to get warmer than the “expected high” of 82 shown on the widget.
See all y’all later!
Thursday Meese. Still cold here in Kingston – but no snow till maybe Sunday.

Good morning. Between donations and matches, I raised nearly $400 yesterday! Walked 1.6 mi this morning. I have got to stop waking up before 4. Happy Friday!
Congratulations! I’ll see what I can dig up for the Ride.
It’s 41 heading for 79 (in February) and sunny. Yesterday we generated 12.22 KWHs and the m-t-d is 263.84 with 2 more production days. At least the techbros fixed whatever they screwed up on the monitoring platform within 48 hours this time. I’m still keeping my spreadsheet.
Between unnatural at this time of year but natural causes and the very much not natural construction dust & sprays the thick sludgy mucus won’t go away so neither will my cough or my queasy stomach. sigh. But at least some day they have to finish the construction.
I unexpectedly need to go to the bank today and get more cash. The firewood delivery promised 2 weeks ago is happening this afternoon and since it’s Friday and the guy won’t be able to get to the bank before it closes to cash it he wants cash instead of the usual check so he can pay his crew at quitting time. Since he usually does take a check from me, I didn’t get that extra cash when I was there last week. sigh. But that does mean his crew can go grocery shopping after work so that part’s good. Meanwhile I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! ‘Tis 28 F. and sunny in Ashburger at the moment, but we woke up to Brigadoon. The fog has now taken itself off, so we’re getting sunshine and later, 54 F.
Spent yesterday recovering from food poisoning after being violently ill late Wednesday night. The way I felt during rehearsal made me determined to stick to lunch on rehearsal days and save dinner for days when we don’t have rehearsal. Tonight will be the Full Monty affair with singing (Goddess help me) and dialogue. Needless to say, I studied not a whit while I was lying on my bed of flatulence yesterday. ‘Nuff said!
Anyway, the diabetes story and photos are in t6o the Managing Editors (the photos came out really well, our photographer is brilliant), so now I have only to write a couple of paragraphs about the wall mural. Then I have to listen to audio files, then pick up my prescription from the pharmacy. I coughed all night long—not a nice, deep-seated cough, but the little “uh-uh-uh” from GERD. It’s driving me cray-cray.
I think I’m going to have a project that will keep me off the streets and out of the pool halls this summer. An author here is looking for an editor for her fifth novel. Her previous book editor has retired. I’ve edited five works of fiction, so I told her my quals. I can’t undertake the project until the “Into the Woods” finishes its run in early May. She said that was OK, she’d be working on the cover design.
So there will be something to do if we can agree on a price. I’m so worried that Mango is going to stop women from voting! Of course my married name doesn’t match the name on my birth certificate! And what about the states in which mail-in voting is the norm instead of an alternative? I myself prefer to vote in person but then, I live steps away from my voting place, not miles out in the country. (I never want to live in the country, it’s too scary.)
Also loathe the way they put Hillary through that farce yesterday. Did you hear how the loathsome, low-IQ Rethug lawmakers questioned her about UFOs and pizza parlors? May the crusty curse of Oliver Cromwell fall upon…etc., etc.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Jan – I’m elated for “my” team
Hooray!! The postseason begins next week! The two teams I follow will at least be in their conference tournaments. The boys running the BigTen say it is too difficult to allow all the women’s teams to play in the tournament so they leave two of them out. Buttheads. Maybe they hope some of the schools will cancel women’s basketball. How awful would it be for Rutgers to drop the program that gave us the joy of watching Vivian Stringer coach and take her team to the championship.:(
Good morning, 46 and cloudy outside my windows today. I’m just waking up, but the house is clean thanks to Sue’s work yesterday, my INR levels are back to normal, and my leg continues to improve so I may have a good day. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The bad news is that we had to turn the air conditioning on late yesterday afternoon. The good news is that the air conditioning works (the first test of the season is always scary) and cooled things down quickly. I am going to have to adjust to taking my morning walk earlier. I was enjoying an early afternoon walk when I knew that my work was finished and I could start my lazy times.
I am going to go news light this weekend. It is frustrating to be powerless in the face of the terrible things coming from the rotting pumpkin and his warlords and gestapo. I am not holding my breath that the Supreme Court will extend their streak of “one democracy supporting ruling” into more. The so-called SAVE act – legislated or ordered – which federalizes all elections, should be shot down without even a hearing. If Republicans in 1976 could see what Republicans in 2026 are doing to states rights, they would be aghast. There really are no principles of “Republicanism” that anyone can point to except “owning the libs” and “making the rich richer.”
I completed a major project a day early so I can spend today getting caught up on the to-do stack that got out of control while I was concentrating on that. See all y’all later!
I don’t know about Rs in general but if R leadership in 1976 could see what R leadership is doing in 2026 they’d smile and congratulate each other that the plan started in 1958 by the John Birch Society was almost achieved. They have a “principle” – theocratic fascist dictatorship.
Yes, the true guiding principle which was buried in the early 60s by Barry Goldwater’s lying convention speech and William F. Buckley because it scared everyone. It was nurtured in the fever swamps of white evangelical christianists, got a boost from Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush and was finally realized with Trump 2.0 (Trump 1.0 was just in it for the cash and bling). I wish Democrats would play the long game – we diverge from our path after each loss even when the elections are stolen or won with outright lies. :(
Play the long game? Dem leadership wouldn’t know a long game if it bit them in the butt.
Good morning. Watching local news to minimize stories about that idiot’s lasted breathtakingly stupid thing. At least I have fuel for kickboxing.
Good morning!

It’s 55 heading for 80 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 13.26 and the m-t-d is 277.05 with one more day of generation in February.
They’ve dialed our “cold front” that starts tomorrow up about 10 degrees. Still cool but not really cold. Not a single overnight below 45. They’ve also dialed back the rain chance. Which I didn’t believe anyway. Although we REALLY need the rain. Beaver Lake’s lower than it’s been in decades. Some of the buildings of the towns that were drowned in the building of it are above water. And still the development continues apace.
My son is totally proud of himself and I’m totally proud of him. He soloed yesterday morning. To “qualify” it’s 3 consecutive takeoffs, fly specific pattern, landings. He almost came to grief when his instructor told him to “touch & go” on the 2nd landing. Since he didn’t come to a full stop he didn’t remember to check the settings on all his controls and instruments. He got off the ground but couldn’t get enough power to get to a safe altitude. He’s very good at not panicking (just as well, panicking in the air can get you dead quickly) so he kept trying to force the throttle in while looking at every gauge and instrument the plane has. Flaps were still open full. Apparently will full flaps you don’t even need an engine to get off the ground, a stiff breeze will do it, but they give so much “drag” you can’t get the power to climb. As soon as he pulled in the flaps, the throttle quit fighting him and the engine powered right up. (These are the sorts of stories Lang never tells me until they’re safely over and he’s actually in my presence. LOL.)
There was a “last straw” moment at work and Natalia put in for her formal retirement. Her last day will be June 30, end of the fiscal year. That gives the department 4 months to either plan for her being gone or not. No longer her problem. She’s not sure what exactly she’ll do then. There are issues with her living full time at the farm since it’s part of the estate trust left jointly and equally to the 4 siblings. But she’ll spend the next 4 months getting information and putting plans in place. And that’s good. She felt as if a ton of weight came off her back the minute she did it.
Meanwhile there are a lot of folks to boost so I’d best get to boosting them. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for Everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 48 F. and sunny in Ashburger, heading for 64 F., which will be nice for us. Snow and rain are predicted for next week, but after that, the 70s! Whoopee whoop!
So here we are at war again. I remember when Mango dropped bombs on Syria during his first term, Fareed Zakheera or someone of his ilk wrote an op-ed in which the first line was, “Last night Trump became President.” So killing people makes you presidential? Funny, I thought it was the other way around.
Rehearsal last night was exhausting, because my counterpart and I rehearsed before the rehearsal. Today I plan to visit Harris Teeter, where I haven’t been in months, before attending a webinar on how to sing with an old, cracked voice at 1 p.m. Have a dinner engagement at 6:15 p.m., which means I need to show up at 6. That’s how things work around here.
The day is getting away from me, so I’d best be about my biz miz. Anotherdemocrat, hope you received my donation for the bike ride. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and an end to the war on Iran! What if they won? I assure you that Farsi and Dari are not fun languages to learn.
