Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 12th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

    • Well, trump is fulfilling his promise to make America unwelcoming to non-white people. It’s sad that so many non-white people thought that was a good idea and voted for him.

  3. Good morning. We’re getting soft, lovely rain — just little bits & it is moving fast. So just enough water to be beneficial with no flood fears. Not enough to call off the 10K that’s going on. Today: church & prepping next week’s food.

  4. It’s not quite 70 right now and apparently is going to stay that way, give or take a degree or two, until tomorrow at dawn. Overcast and going to stay that way for lot longer. We may or may not get any actual rain out of it. Yesterday we generated 14.02 KWHs and lost a smidge more ground. We’ll see how much more ground we lose today.

    I don’t know if I’ll have a fire tonight or not. Depends on how well/long the house holds the heat. It’s 72 in the den (where I am) and 68 in the bedrooms right now. The furnace certainly won’t be coming on today. We shall see. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Boy, the Moose is really kicking this morning! After my eighth—count ’em, eighth—attempt to log in, I finally was allowed admittance. Whew!

    Beautifully sunny in Ashburned (no rain predicted for weeks), 61 F. and going up to 71 F. I’m trying to decide what to wear to a rock’n’roll concert this afternoon and a Mexican dinner afterwards. My date is fixated on having dinner off-campus.

    I’ve been up since 6:30 a.m., so need to sit in a chair and rest my back while I read some more of the Edith Cavell biography. My GODDESS, nurses had a hard time of it in those days! I’m astounded that they even made it to age 40!

    Anyway, my friend E. and I met for dinner at the Blue Sky restaurant in the original clubhouse last night, and we were there for two hours! Thank Goddess I didn’t have a dog howling for me at home. I won’t eat there again any time soon, let me tell you.

    Need to study my script today, really ought to exercise, must watch Shakespeare at 10 p.m. on PBS if I can stay awake. Tomorrow I have a 10 a.m. appointment at Costco to get my hearing aids paired with my new phone. After that I have a late lunch with my one remaining Circle sister. We meet in Reston, which is about halfway between each of our houses.

    Next week it’s going to be hot, hot, hot! Yay! I bought sunscreen. Ice cubes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, can’t wait! OMG, my building is having a party tomorrow night. Well, I’ll pop in and I’ll bring something, but I can’t stay. I have rehearsal and must be there for vocal warm-up exercises, even though my team isn’t on tomorrow night. The friend with whom I had dinner last night sat through rehearsal a week ago and said that the first half of the play went splendidly, but we fell apart in the second half. Yikes!

    Granddaughter sent me photos of herself in the beautiful pale yellow prom dress. She looked so lovely. How could that guy have broken up with HER just days before the prom? A curse on him and all his camels!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  6. Good morning, 49 and cloudy outside my windows today. RonK is outside cleaning up as much of the ivy fence as he can reach, but the ladder work will be left for the young people to do next week. I’ll do a bit more patio cleanup later today. Best wishes to all.

    • The draft starts at 4pm here – even I can stay up for that. Lots of crazy free agent signings and trades, I suspect the draft will be wild also.

      I am not sure who my team will be this year. Probably not the Mercury, maybe the Dream – I really like Reese. The Valkyries kept their core together and the Tempo might be fun. Your Liberty has new faces. I feel like it is going to be like Unrivaled, rooting for players instead of teams. We shall see!

  7. It’s 70 heading for 79 very breezy and overcast. We may get some sunshine this afternoon. We may not. Yesterday we generated 8.15 KWHs and the m-t-d at 161.16 lost a lot more ground. Enough that I’m not entirely sure we could catch up for that 450 target if we had bright sunshine from dawn until dusk the entire rest of the month. But there’s no issue making the “absolute very least” goal of 180 – what I use in a month with no A/C. Although at this rate there might be an issue with not using A/C this month.

    Rain or shine or our unfortunately usual no rain & no shine, I’d still best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  8. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 69 F. heading for 82 F. in Ashburned this morning. Have to run to Costco to get my hearing aids paired with the new phone. In some ways I wish I didn’t have to give up my iPhone 12: it has a nice button that I can press. This new one has 5G, which is good, but I have to swipe up about 80 times before I can get it to do anything. Oh, well, first world problem.

    Have to go to Reston to meet a friend for a late lunch, then home again. Rehearsal tonight, but my team is observing tonight, not acting. We act on Wednesday. That’s all that’s happening here at the ranch.

    Out in the world, tomatoes are going to be priced sky-high. And guess who just relinquished her garden plot. Very glad that Orban was defeated in the election yesterday. Now waiting for the fatal cheeseburger in this country and defenestration in the Kremlin for Putie.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Also wishing for real sunlight instead of namby-pamby clouds and wind. Bleargh!

    • I am sure that Orban thought he was President for Life. It shows the power of the vote. I hope we can keep the vote here. The Supreme Court of MAGAtry is poised to disenfranchise the Alaskan native people who can’t count on their mailed ballots arriving by election day. And married women who took their husband’s name may be denied a ballot if the SAVE Act passes. This may be the last election we have where we can elect people who will preserve and protect our election system.

  9. Good morning, 50 and cloudy outside my windows today. I made some changes re how to set up the upper patio and my son helped me move things yesterday. But unfortunately my new “vision” doesn’t allow enough room for people to move around the table easily so after work tonight he will help me move things back the way it was. Oh well, now I know. The election results from Hungry are encouraging but the orange miasma continues to disturb my sleep so I’m feeling tired and grouchy today. Time to cope and as always my best wishes to all.

  10. Good afternoon, meeses! Monday …

    It is about 80 and sunless. We had hoped for rain from the clouds but none of it is reaching the ground.

    I got some errands run today and have one more to run tomorrow if the maintenance guy can finish his project in the morning. If not, I have to wait until Thursday.

    I cleared my desk and will be sitting in the family room and reading about the WNBA draft and playing solitaire and word games for the rest of the day.

    See all y’all later!

  11. It’s going to feel – already feels – like I’ve been banned all over again. With warning rather than the sudden shock. Although I’m banned I never logged out. My link that went to my comments page still works. ATM. No comments of course, but from that page I could get to my stream and to the diaries of folks I follow/ed. I mostly only visited the Pootie diaries, Street Prophets, & Dee’s various things – but they were there. And it was how I got to them. I could also get to my list of follows and followers if I wanted to check on someone who had posted in the Pootie diaries in a while. Not that I can/could do anything about them if they were in trouble but pray. As of midnight, I’ll be logged out. And that will be that. Weird to feel that way after being over 8 years banned. Oh well.

      • Good that you saved your diaries. You can’t go today – the site’s down until tomorrow when the move will supposedly be finished. (Aashirs nani suggested that tomorrow I just try to log in and see what happens. I might even try that. See if my banning gets lost in the move. LOL)

        {{{Diana}}}

  12. Good morning. Wondering what the orange place move/update will bring. Meanwhile, prepping for wfh day. Hoping that the rotting pumpkin does less damage today than most days. Oh, speaking of crooked “conservative” politicians – the Tx AG is apparently displeased with Austin about something. Must be Tuesday.

  13. It’s 70 heading for 81 (heat index 85) and sunny at the moment. Solid if light gray to the northwest so probably the sunny part won’t last long. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 13.33 KWHs and the m-t-d at 174.49 lost a little more ground.

    It’s suppose to be a little cooler tomorrow and a little more cooler over the weekend so hopefully we’ll manage with opening and closing windows rather than firing up the A/C in April. Speaking of which I’d best close up the house. While it’s upper 70s in the kitchen and mid 70s where I’m sitting, the rest of the house is at 70. Always time to close up when indoor and outdoor temps are the same. LOL. So I’d best do that then be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  14. Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s a fairish day here, 67 F. now in Ashburned, going up to 89 F. later. We are not having any rain for at least two weeks.

    Rehearsal really fell apart last night during the second half. Of course, we’re all 180 years old and some of us can’t really memorize our lines, but this was worse than usual. My team is on tomorrow night, so I hope we don’t have a similar fiasco. We open a week from Thursday!

    Today I have a balance class at 10, then have to run to get hair done and pick up my dry cleaning, then hope I can attend the “Americana” singing group at 2. I want to write an article about the various singing groups here.

    Have you seen renderings of Thing’s utterly sick-making “Trum-phal” Arch? Great Goddess! It’s loathsome, just like him.

    Wishing a good day to all the Pond.

  15. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 72 degrees and sunny in Tucson and that is the expected high. There was a pretty little waning crescent moon this morning just before sunrise. She will be new on the 17th.

    I got a few things done this morning but now everything is on hold waiting for a maintenance visit today. I am hoping this will be the last for a while, it is all related to a water issue discovered last week.

    I watched the WNBA draft last night and I agree with the prognosticators that the Washington Mystics had the best draft. How it all turns out is anyone’s guess, there are going to be a lot of players cut after training camps. I am sure that everyone is holding their breaths to see how South Carolina star Raven Johnson is treated in Indianoplis by the Indiana Racists. She helped beat their cult leader Caitlin Clark in the 2023 NCAA basketball tournament. Will she be forgiven or treated like DeWanna Bonner was? Anyway, preseason games start at the end of the month.

    See all y’all later!
