Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 3rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 63 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 88. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Sunday Meese. Cold here in Kingston. Celebrating several musical birthdays today:
    James Brown John Lewis and his MJQ and Pete Seeger

  3. Good morning. Another weirdly cool morning – I’m not complaining, cool is welcome. Tea is made and smells lovely. The protest music diary last night went well, people are still posting. There’s so much great music out there.

  4. It’s 49 heading for 80 and sunny today. At least it is at the moment and the widget says it will be all day. Yesterday we generated 20.46 KWHs – the highest single day for the year thus far – and the m-t-d at 39.1 is definitely on track. Early days yet of course. We shall see what we shall see.

    The bread came out well. The crust was crusty – like French or Sourdough bread – which I like. The center is relatively soft. Which made it hard for me to slice and I didn’t slice it as thinly as I’d planned for fear of tearing up the loaf. So instead of 15 slices I ended up with 10. But it’s good for eating plain or with butter (I did both) and will probably make good toast and open-face sandwiches. Heaven knows when it will be cool enough to bake again but the yeast is good until May 2027 (I have 2 packets left) and there will definitely be opportunities before then. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! Sunny, windy, and cool again. Nice to look upon but I’ll forego a walk outside today.

    Sorry I’ve been MIA but I woke up with the sniffles Friday morning, so spent the day taking OTC cold meds and falling asleep. Recovered enough to go to the play that night; fortunately, my team wasn’t on, the other team was. We were on last night, and that ended the run. We played to packed houses, everyone seemed to like the play, and poured compliments on us and our director and stage crew.

    Naturally it clouded up two nights in a row, causing me to miss the Flower Moon. Duh. First-world problem, I realize.

    My cold wants me to go ahead and have it, so that’s what I’m going to do today. Will attempt to get a bit of housework done. I’ve missed y’all!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • {{{Diana}}} I’m glad you checked in & very sorry you have a cold. But you got through the show and it’s a done deal now. So relax, drink lots of liquids of your preference, and sleep. The cold will work it’s way through faster that way. And never forget that the moon is always there whether we see her or not. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good afternoon, 69 and sunny in Bellingham today. We’re going to grill ribs for dinner tonight, light a fire, and have dinner on the patio. The s’mores we had last night were so tasty we may do that again too. Nice to feel like summer weather is finally here again. I’m doing my best to stay informed but at the same time hold tight to thoughts and feelings of well being. It’s easier said than done, but impt for my mental and physical health. I know this difficult time in our country will eventually change but for now I just have to do the best I can to keep living my life. Best wishes to all.

  7. Dee, I came across this article yesterday in the Phoenix paper and thought you might be interested. They are considering naming the new Sky Harbor terminal after Lincoln Ragsdale and this earlier article covers his life and what he means to Phoenix.

    He couldn’t get a sandwich at Sky Harbor. Now, a terminal bears his name

    Lincoln Ragsdale’s story is remarkable no matter how you tell it.

    He grew up in the shadows of a racist massacre, became a Tuskegee Airman, desegregated Luke Air Force Base, integrated Phoenix schools, erased housing red lines, organized with Martin Luther King Jr. He was the reason Arizona wasn’t the “Mississippi of the West,” and today there’s talk of naming in his honor a new $4 billion terminal at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport — a place where, back in the day, cafes wouldn’t even serve Ragsdale lunch.

    If you can’t read the article (it may be behind a paywall) let me know and I will send you a PDF of it.

  8. Good morning. Allergies are killing me, I skipped my walk because I didn’t want to be outside for 45 minutes. Anyway, happy Monday and Star Wars Day.

  9. It’s 63 heading for 81 and sunny at the moment. Widget says it will cloud up later. I hope a lot later. Yesterday we generated 20.03 KWHs and the m-t-d at 59.1 is still on track with 28 production days left in May.

    Cloud’s been pulling out his fur again. Not as badly as before and I haven’t actually seen him do it but I found a small bare patch of pink skin this morning – he was lying down in such a way as to expose it – so I gave him some Gabapentin. He doesn’t like it and I hope I won’t have to have him on it for long. At least he lets me give him medications at all. Heaven only knows what I’ll do if/when Freddie and/or Bobbie need meds. They won’t let me within grabbing range when I’ve got a syringe in my hand. Forget trying to pill them. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

      • It’s a anti-seizure med that is also used to treat neuropathic pain. Used for humans as well as other mammals. Since it’s a central nervous system depressant I try not to give it to him any more than I have to. (Side effects – at least in humans – are vision changes, unsteadiness, drowsiness, and trouble thinking.) But if he’s pulling his fur out, well that’s a sign of being in pain, so I give it to him whenever I catch him doing it – or see signs of it (like patches of bare skin).

  10. Monday Meese.Weather is warmer here this week. Going up to 73 today and 82 tomorrow.

  11. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Woke up today to find a very ripe banana in the kitchen, so I made Banana-Walnut Bran Muffins for myself and the neighbors. They’re so delicious! The only sweetening is from the mashed banana and two tablespoons of Grandma’s Molasses.

    Had a lovely day yesterday, reading, resting, and napping. Did hardly anything. Today I feel like going to the gym, and BFF wants to go out for a quick lunch at 1 o’clock. She leaves for Hawaii tomorrow. Must start drafting interview questions for two articles that I have to finish and turn in before May 29th. The temperature is supposed to hit 77 F. today, but right now it’s long trousers and jackets weather.

    Kimi Antonelli is going to run away with the F1 championship! Of course, I couldn’t watch since I’m not hooked up to Apple TV yet. Perhaps the grandchildren can help when they come over for dinner on Thursday. The younger they are, the more they seem to know about tech. Got to get ready for the gym. May the Fourth be with everyone at the Pond!

  12. Good afternoon, 61 and partly sunny. I’ve had a slow and sleepy morning restlessly resting my legs, but now it’s time to get busy with home and garden tasks. We have zoom call with some old friends later this afternoon so I’ll try to look presentable. I don’t like the zoom format but everyone else does so I try to do my part. Best wishes to all.

  13. Good evening, meeses! Monday …

    It is 65 degrees and has been raining off and on. The sun has not been out all day but it got to 85, the rain came through and cooled it off. I did not expect it!

    In any event, the morning was a chaotic Monday mess but I did get two important things done and got a few other things off my list.

    See all y’all tomorrow!

  14. Tuesday Meese 55 here now but it’s gonna be 82 – weird spring weather for upstate NY.

  15. Good Tuesday morning, Meese! Still haven’t seen the Moon.

    We’re going to have a nice day in Ashburned, 86 degrees and sunny! Alas, wind this afternoon.

    This morning I have to run to the barbershop to get my hair done, get a fingernail repaired, then show up at the Cast Party at noon, dressed weirdly: orange tank dress, leopard-print hair band and shoes, plus a scarf in leopard colors. The author here has finished her mss. and will send it to me today for editing. At least I’ll get paid for this job! At the Cast Party I hope to approach at least 5 of the people I need to interview for the music groups survey article. Won’t interview them today of course, will just ask when I can set up the interviews. The chief person I need to interview for the train exhibit article is on his way to Honolulu, so that will have to wait until the 19th.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  16. It’s 60 heading for 72 – topping out about 2 pm then dropping back to 60 by sundown & 46 by tomorrow at dawn. Overcast – an inch of rain early this morning with a possibility of a little more later today. Yesterday we generated 18.85 KWHs and the m-t-d at 78 is still on track. Happy Cinco de Mayo.

    Natalia was planning on taking a sick/mental health day today but the admin asst/secretary beat her to it. She says a day without him in the office is almost as good. Ahem. Things are OK here – “I’m alright right now” works as long as I don’t look at the national, international, and climate situations. And don’t let the number and needs of the folks on my needs list drag me down to the point I can’t deal with even boosting them. As I’d best be about doing. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 70 degrees and windy. The sun has come out off and on but mostly off. Last night we got .47 of an inch of rain which is quite a bit here. They are gearing up for some old fashioned western water wars again, hopefully with gavels and not guns. Every bit of rain is welcome.

    I did get a walk in but it was only .75 of a mile instead of my usual 1.25. It was a bit cool without the sun. I am taking a slightly different route with fewer people and more wildlife.

    I finished a project that will let me get some high stressors out of my life. For at least the next week to 10 days I can work on what I want to instead of what I have to.

    See all y’all later!
