Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 27th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. These are the April/May days that make snowbirds visit here in the winter and early spring. I would like them to go home now – they are bad drivers! – but would like the weather for a bit longer.

    The first 100 days of tRump 2.0 are done and really he has nothing to show for it except a 39% approval rating, lots of anger and frustration from We The People, a Liberal Prime Minister in Canada, a liberal judge in Wisconsin and a strong likelihood that he will trigger a recession and lose the House of Representatives in 2026. If we can survive the Bondi-Patel Stormtroopers, who can do real and deadly damage to humans, we might survive. The Felonious Math Challenged Liar is claiming that he reduced egg prices by 87%. Actually, according to Facts, they are higher. I hope people believe their own experiences and not the propaganda pushed at them by the Vichy news media.

    I am working my way through end of month accounting projects and can only stop to visit to make sure that no one had any login problems and say hi and bye.

    See all y’all later!

  2. It’s 60 heading for 70 and trying to be sunning for a little bit at least. Yesterday it cleared off long enough to generate 4.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 394.7 means we might, maybe, make it over 400 for the month.

    It’s being right on the edge weather. Not really cool enough for a fire but not really warm enough to not have one. So far I’ve been going without but if stays as damp as it’s been, I will give in. And the upper 70s for next week that had been predicted have dropped back to low 70s and upper 60s so I may have one more laundry in the house after all. The cats won’t be happy. Slipping out the back door as I’m juggling a heavy laundry basket is their favorite warm-weather activity. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good sunny Wednesday morning, Moosekind, and a merry Beltane to all! It’s already 72 F. here in Ashburn, and although clouds keep trying to blot out the sun, the sun is winning as of now. It’s going up to 80+ today!

    I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that THIS WEEK I’m afflicted with “gippy tummy,” which means that I’m living on Pepto Bismol tablets and feeling too ill to eat anything much except applesauce and toast. Of course, this is making me lose weight like mad, but what an awful way to lose it. Haven’t heard from grandson lately but he sent me a pix of the surgical boot the hospital people put on La Fiancee. It’s a tasteful shade of black. Well, black goes with everything, right? No word yet on when they’re going home to Ohio. They’re in Pittsburgh at the moment.

    Last night’s Dress Rehearsal was the PITS! Late entrances, actors blanking out on lines, you name it. Can only hope today’s matinee goes better.

    Now the good news: I completed two flash fiction “horror” stories, one set in the Woodworking Shop here, the other about the weird FaceTime experience I had in March. My writers are really having fun with this assignment!

    More good news: the male star of the show, who plays “Bobby,” paid me a compliment so extravagant I shall not repeat it here. Y’all will think I’m conceited.

    Last, but not least, M’Daughter is in town, staying in Reston! She’ll be here this afternoon to watch the performance. Haven’t seen her in person since August! Wish I could post a picture of moi-meme in my Scene 1 costume but alas, I do not know how.

    Anyway, that’s quite enough from me. Sending love and healing white light to the 16 people on my list. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  4. Good morning, 50 and sunny in Bellingham today. We got a lot done in the garden yesterday and I’m getting better at just doing what I can. Frankly it’s a relief to accept some limits…..makes for shorter lists! I have 7 planting areas in the garden to maintain so planting 20+ containers is just nor possible now. The pots are a part of the garden so I don’t want to remove them. But I think I can continue to make permanent plantings of ferns and perennials, add a few seasonal flowers, and that will be good enough. Best wishes to all.

  5. Good morning, meeses! Thursday and May Day – Happy Beltane!

    It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. My moon is rising in the NE sky later this morning. I will try to catch a glimpse of her but the sun will be up and that is an odd angle from my porch. It looks like she might not be visible when I am awake and in the right spot to view for a few days.

    I have to turn off the rush of news for a few days. The faux milestone “100 Days” has brought out all the “journalists” with lists and fluff pieces about the destroyers in the federal government – the Felon and Melon, their cabinet, and the entire Republican Party in both houses of Congress. Now the Supreme Court wants me to turn my tax dollars over to church schools and allow them to use that money to teach children to hate me and the people I care about. Goddess help us! I hope some enterprising witch sets up a Wicca Charter School and makes the states give them money. Of course, the Supreme Court would find a loophole in the “give all your tax dollars to the church schools” to deny that. Bastids.

    I did not finish month end accounting so I have declared today April 31st and will pretend that I am not late. So I best get back to it.

    See all y’all later!

  6. Good morning. I went to kickboxing yesterday & walked/ran this morning, I’m such an athlete. So, as we regress to the 1400s (did you see the article about our HHS Secretary rejecting germ theory??) I’m going to the kickoff for the AIDS Ride tonight. Raised $2100! See, there are some good things happening.

  7. Good Thursday morning, Meese! ‘Tis as fair as a morning in May—wait, it is May! I did say “rabbit,” the way you’re supposed to the first day of each month. Goddess knows why.

    It’s 66 F. here in Ashburn, going up to 81 F. later. Yesterday’s matinee was very well received. One woman told Director Kate that she’d lived here 11 years and this was the best musical she’d ever seen here. M’Daughter started a sensation, bless her: at the end she stood up to clap and caused a standing “O”, because the rest of the audience joined her!

    It was wonderful to see her. She brought me a dress she’d found: a plum-colored sheath in crepe, with long, loose sleeves, a neck ruffle, and draped pleats across the front. When she told me it was a Size 4, I thought, “Dear Goddess.” However, when I tried it on, it fit! One can only suppose Italians size their clothes differently. Here, I wear a 10.

    After the show Dearly, Daughter, and I went to Anita’s New Mexican Restaurant for dinner and allowed ourselves the first sopapillas we’d had in 10 years. I was starved because of my deprived tummy. Then we dropped Dearly off at the flat, and M’Daughter and I sat on a bench outside the Blue Ridge Clubhouse and talked each other’s ears off. As we talked, the thin pale slice of Moon in the fading sky turned silver in a midnight-blue sky, and turned into half an earring in black velvet. Madame La Directrice and her dinner companion came by on their way back from dinner and we had a nice chat.

    It was 10 p.m. by the time Daughter and I said goodnight. I’ll see her again after today’s matinee. It’s wonderful to sit and talk!

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I don’t feel up to much. Going to rest this morning, although we’re out of orange juice and milk, so I should run to Trader Joe’s.

    That’s enough from moi! Wishing a merry Beltane or happy May Day to all at the Pond, and may you enjoy a lovely day!

    • Lovely! “As we talked, the thin pale slice of Moon in the fading sky turned silver in a midnight-blue sky, and turned into half an earring in black velvet.”

      The moon is reportedly visible here but well after I have gone to bed. I am an early to bed early to rise person and only see the early morning and early evening moons. But I know she is there – somewhere – and it gives me comfort.

  8. It’s 64 heading for 77 and sunny, at least at the moment. We wrapped up April with 397.7 KWHs. Not the worst April but fairly closed. Unless it clouds over later in the day – which it might – we’re starting May off well. The best May we’ve ever done was 515 KWHs to that’s the “miracle” goal. The worst was 370 but that year the system was down (as in totally off the roof) for several days while the roof was reshingled/replaced. The next worst was 394 the following year. So the “at least” goal is over 400 and the target is 480. We shall see what we shall see.

    Happy Beltane. Or May Day if you prefer. I had a very rocky night. Didn’t actually get to sleep until after 4. Didn’t wake up until 8. Very groggy and moving very slowly. But still moving. And had best be off to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. It’s 50 and sunny in Bellingham today and my quiet morning is ending. I didn’t sleep very well last night so I let my mind wander in the garden. Maybe creating interesting plantings in my mind will be yet another garden therapy :) Time to get going and make a Beltane plan for this evening. As always, my best wishes to all.

    • I wake up with “things that need to get done” and very often they won’t let me go back to sleep. There might have been a disturbance in the force Wednesday night, though, because I woke up at 2am which is early even for me! There are no close-in gardens to walk in here but there are some nice plantings in the apartment complex. I may need to walk further so that I can immerse myself in cactus blooms – those are excellent therapy.

  10. Good morning. The kick off for the Ride was last night. At a faux-medieval pub-like place (not an awful corporate one, this is definitely local). Thirty years ago, I would have loved it; definitely a place for playing D&D while drinking ale. Anyway, here I am in the office, trying desperately to stay awake after a terrible night’s sleep. At least it’s Friday, and I am not driving out to the Ride site tomorrow. It is just too hot to spend the day outside. Also, I have to cook both breakfast & lunch this weekend.

  11. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 59 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    The party of “state rights” has declared that the people of Arizona cannot pass laws to control how tuition costs are set for the people living in their state. We passed a referendum, with overwhelming support, to allow undocumented young people to pay the in-state tuition rate for our state universities. The Felon signed an Executive Odor banning in-state tuition for undocumented people and DACA enrollees. I guess Attorney General Kris Mayes will have to add another lawsuit to her ever growing stack of lawsuits against the federal government’s illegal actions. I am convinced that these orders are intended to sow confusion rather than actually repeal the laws. Just like the foreign student visa revocation and then non-revocation was intended to cause people to self-deport, the cancellation of in-state tuition is intended to send the young people living here who want a college education back into the shadows. Bastids.

    It is the end of the very short first work week of May and I will spend it organizing my projects for the weekend and next week. Tonight the WNBA starts its pre-season games and it is on one of my fingertip channels (the ones that are part of my streaming service and just need a click of the remote to find). The WNBA League Pass that I purchased is not going to be as convenient as the one that was part of Amazon Prime Video. Their homegrown app is not smart enough to connect to my TV and also does not have a Cast to TV Monitor option. That is where I can send the video from my tablet or phone to the TV screen and watch there. I may cancel it because it will require a lot of dinking around to watch the games. I am hoping that they add the features I want as people complain about the app.

    See all y’all later!

    Puerto Rico:
    A new layer of bureaucracy and corruption. What the Board wants is to centralize its power over federal funds. Instead of overseeing 100 agencies, it only oversees one, which is the one that controls federal funds.

    How time flies! It’s been seven years since the Solar Cinema opened, a community space that not only offers entertainment but also a place where we meet, chat, learn, find inspiration, and exchange views and courses of action to build the country we want.

    If they apply this in Puerto Rico,

    @WildaRodz and @GracielaRodzMar will be present! And you?
    On Saturday, May 17, we’re going to the Capitol to say enough is enough.
    We won’t take a step back, our rights are respected!
    Send your video pledging to participate. 🤚🏾
    We need you and everyone!

    • Dee, they’re revoking SETTLED LAW in Louisiana?

      Well, they did it to Roe v. Wade. You know what? If I were a rational person I’d leave Louisiana as soon as possible1

  13. It’s 57 heading for 68, overcast, been raining and still drizzling a bit. But the PV system is at least on. Yesterday we generated 20.3 KWHs, a lovely start to May. Unfortunately, as with this year’s April, we’ll get a good start and then be playing catch-up for at least the next week. If not the entire month. We shall see what we shall see.

    Better night’s sleep last night. And got to see the moon several times between 7 pm and 11 pm. Mostly through my bedroom window of course. But it was still Her and I hadn’t seen Her for over a week so it was very nice and most welcome. The odds are good I really will have a fire this evening and for the next several evenings. Oh well. I have the wood. That’s a blessing. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  14. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s 76 F. in Ashburn at the moment, heading for a high of 87 F. and a possible thunderstorm. Will believe it when I see it. Meanwhile, we have quite a nice day, a fair blue sky and weak sunlight. White cirrostratus clouds are moving across the sky.

    Daughter said she slept beautifully while she was staying in Reston (down the road from here), no dogs or husbands to interrupt her sleep. We had another nice evening, talking each other’s ears off. However, this time it was only until 8 p.m., not 10 p.m. I’m feeling very tired after two matinees in a row, so I think I’ll go back to bed. That might give me enough energy to help the guys in the woodworking shop to clean up those suspicious-looking spots (blood?) on the floor. Their biweekly cleanup is at 2 p.m.

    Daughter was a great hit with the other players in the cast, several of whom said we looked like sisters!

    One of my favorite people in the Drama Club died last week. The UU guru here told us about it in email this morning. I hadn’t known, since I haven’t had time to read the community newsletter. He was such a nice guy, in his 90s. He was a teacher, and later the principal, of the first integrated junior high in this area. I think it was Stratford Jr. High. May he rest in peace.

    Couldn’t see the Moon last night because of clouds, but overdosed on pollen while we were sitting outside, which brought on terrible coughing! Yikes!

    Wishing love and healing white light to all who are ill, and a good day to all at the Pond.

  15. Good morning, meeses! Saturday, finally …

    It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 90. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow the temperatures will drop into the 70s for a 5 day cooling trend. The 90 is not worrisome this time of year as the days don’t start hot and stay hot, they just get warm later in the afternoon then fairly quickly cool off when the sun goes down.

    This was a difficult week for some reason, possibly a transiting planet causing some disturbance. All week I thought it was Friday and all week, until yesterday!, it wasn’t. I need to organize a way forward on a gnarly project that has become complicated by difficult personalities and unrealistic expectations. I will do that early tomorrow – today I finish accounting work.

    See all y’all later!

  16. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It was lovely and sunny at 7 a.m., but now clouds are moving in. There’s a forecast of tornadoes, violent rain, hail, flooding, yada yada yada. Will believe it when I see it. Meanwhile, here at the ranch, it’s 70 F. and I need to rush out to Trader Joe’s in case it really does rain.

    The Woodworking Shop guys were kind enough to praise my horror story. I considered going to the shop yesterday to help with their biweekly cleanup–I could have scrubbed the bloodstains off the floor, but decided I needed a nap more. Some poor guy knocked against something, causing his skin to bleed. I photographed the spots on the floor when I toured the shop.

    Enough about that. Last night’s audience was most appreciative of our efforts. Tonight is the last night of the play. The Cast Party will be next Friday. I’ll miss my fellow actors, who have become like family. However, I’m now in charge of Reader Theater for the Drama Club, so I’ll be writing a bunch of plays of my own. I already have several ideas.

    That’s enough from me. Oh, lawks, Meese, the world! I’m just going to enjoy what I can while I can. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing white light to those who need it.

  17. Good morning. Didn’t drive out to the Ride site, we were supposed to have bad weather (of course we didn’t) and I was also afraid of driving out there. So here I am doing my usual Saturday stuff. News, kickboxing, groceries and cooking. I’m out of both breakfast & lunch, so I have to cook both this weekend, ugh.

  18. It’s 51 heading for 67 and sunny at the moment. Lots of clouds drifting around the sky though. Yesterday we generated 13 KWHs and the m-t-d at 33 is still on track. We shall see what today brings.

    I did have a fire last night. May have one again today. Possibly ever night through Tuesday. We shall see about that, too. This has been an “out every other day” week. Today included as I need to get milk. I also need to bake cookies. Even though I don’t do milk and cookies. I do hot cocoa and cookies. LOL. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
